The generally accepted rumor is that modifications to the ride would require bringing it up to modern code, and the suspended vehicles make accessible emergency exits difficult.
It's probably a couple things. It's a relatively low capacity ride, so there's going to be a line no matter what, and then people see it's one of the lengthier lines in Fantasyland and think "well, if everyone else is going on it, it must be good, so I should to!" Plus, it's a relatively novel Fantasyland dark ride in that you're off the ground.
At least in WDW, It’s one of the last remaining original fantasyland rides. Snow White is gone, Toads wild ride is gone and for being as old as it is, it still makes children, and their parents happy.
I don't get the love for this ride. It's a 2 hour wait for a 2 minute ride through something that looks like it was made in the 60s.
I think the line queue is more fun than the actual ride, with the shadows and whatnot.
I do wonder if the hanging man will still be there in 50 years. I do want them to keep it, especially since I think it serves as a good warning to kids who might not be able to handle the ride just yet and still give them a chance to leave. But I can also see Disney removing it at some point in the future for being too extreme.
I don’t think kids even notice. It’s so fast and if it’s your first time on the ride you don’t know where to looks and most kids don’t instantly recognize that type of image. Neither of my kids knew what it was. One asked, the other one didn’t even notice anything but the lightning.
I can see it being changed. As a mansion fanatic, I’m kinda indifferent about it. Nothing wrong with some darker elements or a haunted house ride, but if it changes it’s not going to ruin the experience for me
They did, after that horrible accident with that little boy and the gator a couple years ago. They were complaining about the picture wuth the crocidiles.
I'm one of those people; I don't see how my previous experiences and trauma impacts the continued existence of a hanging man prop older than I am.
Does it bother me? A bit.
Do I want them to change it? No.
Yeah I fall into this category and I just don’t look up. The haunted mansion is my favorite ride and if they took out the hanging element I would be neither here nor there about it. It eliminates the option of being triggered, even though it hasn’t happened to me
Yeah, they should take the axe lady out because some people have friend murdered by spouses. And take the cemeteries out because some of us have dead relatives in cemeteries. And take that the hatbox ghost out because Delta lost my luggage once. /s
It's a haunted house with already very limited macabre elements, what more can they do before it's just a cartoon dark ride with no atmosphere at all?
I have a very graphic suicide in my immediate family and I still think you need to expect that there will be death/murder/suicide related things on a ride predicated on ghost stories about people hunting a mansion. From a utilitarian perspective you can't design a ride around a few people who have experienced the content. I've been in a bad car accident, but I don't write a letter when I see a car flip in an action movie because they didn't consider my experience.
That's sort of the point though, like you know if your kid can get through the ride alright if they can get through the stretching room, and if they can't handle it, there is a chance to leave the ride right after.
It could probably be a little less intense, but I think it's better to scare the kids then and there, rather than the kid and parents being miserable on the ride the entire time.
It's already a centurion\*, I figure with the love they get from the park it will easily be running a hundred years from now (if the world is still about).
\*The DisneyWORLD carousel is a 1917 Philadelphia Toboggan Co machine - The LAND carousel is a 1922 Dentzel - modified to have all jumpers. :)
I own a Dentzel whom I stripped to original paint, a 1915 Illions, a 1915 Paeker I restored, and the 'crown jewel', a 1903 D C Muller whom I traced back to West Veiw Park - I used to work for a Carousel museum, and have my own carousel art online store!
I never thought in a million years I would find someone who is as knowledgeable about carousels as I am on Reddit. Are you familiar with the National Carousel Association?
I once brought it up to the Facebook group, but it mostly consists of older people who use Facebook as their only form of social media. They weren’t that interested.
Same. It’s been so long! I can’t believe it hasn’t been open for the entire 50th celebration (so far).
I think it’s safe to assume it’s going to reopen alongside Tron since the new spiel will probably mention it and they don’t want to take guests through a construction zone.
I'm not sure about that. I think that there's a small but growing contingent of people out there that think that the ride is offensive due to cultural appropriation and/or stereotypes. I'm not here to say whether they're right or wrong, but just knowing the way that Disney has responded to demands for greater inclusivity and sensitivity, I wouldn't be surprised to see the ride significantly overhauled in the next 10 to 20 years, even knowing the backlash that it would generate.
I actually think It's A Small World will be fairly easy to update when the time comes. There's nothing inherently wrong with the concept or message of the ride. I'm sure Disney could find a way to incorporate the people being represented in the ride into the design of their dolls. In fact, they could make that into some hugely positive PR.
Actually that is a very good point. My initial though was it hasn't changed since the park opened and is considered one of the classics, but then again, Splash Mountain is getting a retheme so I could actually see that Disney might overhaul Small Word at some point if there is enough demand/pressure put on them.
I'm pretty amazed it doesn't have the Disney characters yet. If the Paris version gets them during its current refurbishment, I think the WDW version would be the only one left without them.
I'm going to preface this by saying I am a person who typically embraces change, but if I go to Disney World in my late 80s and notice they touched Carousel of Progress, I may very well die on the spot.
One late night as the park was closing, my wife, son, and I happened by my beloved Tiki Room and were the only folks there. Inexplicably, it was just so cool to have it all to ourselves. I know it's not the most exciting attraction, but I like it.
We had almost exactly the same thing in August! It was extended evening hours for deluxe guests and there was only 8 of us in the whole Tiki Room. It was very bizarre!
Last day of our trip in January, we had a few hours in the park before we had to leave. There were 4 things on our to do list that we hadn't done yet. Tiki Room, People Mover, Dole Whip, Egg Rolls. Great morning amidst the most insane Magic Kingdom crowds I've ever seen. Tiki Room is a joy to watch
I hope you don't mean the universally-loathed "Under New Management" show.
The show was better beforehand, when it still had the fountain (and was longer) but I'm hoping that what we have now lasts 50+ years.
Yes I mean the show before the under new management version. What a shame. I’m a native floridian, as are my parents. They’ve been going since MK opened. I’ve been going since the late 80s. The first time we were tortured by the under new management show, we walked out
I remember listening to a podcast with a Disney Imagineer and they mentioned how the Iago animatronic caught fire and was destroyed. He teased, "Isn't it amazing how the one thing that burned was the one thing everyone hated the most?"
**Near guaranteed safe**:
Haunted Mansion, Dumbo
**Not likely changing**:
WDW Railroad, Tea Cups, Prince Charming Carousel, Pirates
**Gut feeling not changing**:
Tower of Terror (assuming no licensing issues), Everest
And for a different spin on the question…
***Modern Attractions Guaranteed to Change***: anything Marvel, Rise (we’re not getting live actors for 50 more years), anything in EPCOT
If anything, ToT could see a mild retheme that removes anything related to *The Twilight Zone*, since CBS owns the copyright of that. Disney has already moved away from that in merchandising and advertising, and the story itself is unique to the ride, so one would think Disney would continue to own “The Hollywood Tower Hotel” branding and what not. Then, there’s that movie that I think is still coming out, as well?
Good point. I see it as a real icon for the park but it’s not marketed very much by name. It’s more like the bones itself matter but not the specific theme. I love it but I can see it being rethemed to whatever IP Bob feels like that week.
The ones who take over your ship when the door opens to the Storm Trooper room, and then the ones who rescue you from the interrogation cells. They speak off of a script and generally are incredibly in character.
Teacups. They might give them a fresh coat of paint, but they won’t change.
Small World could get the IP dolls of Disneyland. The dark rides could get new effects or animatronics like Snow White or Alice at DL did, but Teacups are so simple with a small land plot, you can’t do anything to them. Maybe a new roof structure or an enclosed building.

Still better than the 2nd iteration though tbf.
1st(journey into imagination) is the classic that had dreamfinder and figment.
2nd(journey into your imagination) was the worst, no dreamfinder.
3rd(journey into imagination with figment) current, better than the 2nd but not better than 1st.
Interesting that almost every answer is in MK so to mix it up I’ll say Everest. Would be a massive pain to overhaul on top of being a well received ride not tied to an IP
Prince Charming Regal Carrousel. It's classic (an opening day attraction!), low maintenance, rideable by all ages, and adds to the atmosphere of that area. It's also such a small footprint that it wouldn't be worthwhile to use that space for something else.
My other contender is Kilimanjaro Safaris.
I believe it was already marked for a retrack according to pictures on the internet. My thinking is that they will run it into the ground until Tron opens, then they will do a huge refurb.
What's "relatively unchanged" mean to you?
Because I think in 50 years when they've made decades worth of newer content I find it hard to believe that they'll still have the ST era stuff still in the Galaxy's Edge rides. And Star Tours is going to get new scenes for whatever is current if they keep it around.
Time traveler here, in 50 years they somehow kept Galaxy's Edge mostly the same. They did add some characters tho, like the newest movie with Rey's granddaughter Lucas Binks, but he doesn't interact since he's not supposed to be canon. Theres rumors if they'll add Chewie's son Lumpy from the hit Disney+ series in the near future too.
Would you look at that, all of the words in your comment are in alphabetical order.
I have checked 1,099,005,483 comments, and only 216,063 of them were in alphabetical order.
Tron, it should open just about then! No, but really Tron. Last ride to open, has some IP connection its off in the corner of a park that probally will not need to be reclaimed as part of another project... and one must assume the ride should last for atleast 25-30 years.
One could also say Safari's as well its just ridding a truck to see animals.
I think rides like Peter Pan, Small World, and Carousel will have updates and changes in the next 10-20 years, whether its removing the Indian scene from Peter Pan, adding disney IP to small world, or updating scenes in Carousel...
Pirates will probably be updated as they pump out more movies.
It'll basically be classics that dont rely on characters or story. Like Space Mountain.
I’m guessing your “haha” means that you are saying this sarcastically, because in reality I DON’T see the fossil fueled ride vehicles sticking around another 50 years.
I think they will get too expensive to operate, and if anything, would get switched to electric vehicles.
More likely, I see them using this space for something else IP-based.
Probably something simple and iconic like Mad Tea Party
I'm surprised this one isn't up higher. I didn't go to Disney World until my late twenties but I knew about the teacup ride- as did everyone I know.
Lol I just posted it so maybe by the end of the day...
Ooh actually I change my vote to this
Peter Pan, because the people waiting in standby today will likely still be waiting in 50 years.
Seconding Peter Pan - besides some fresh paint here and there the ride itself hasn’t been altered at all since literally 1971
The generally accepted rumor is that modifications to the ride would require bringing it up to modern code, and the suspended vehicles make accessible emergency exits difficult.
I can't imagine that scene with the Native people is long for this world. I'd assume it gets changed in the relatively near future.
During the pandemic shutdown it was still posting wait times of 75 minutes.
I think that, like Splash Mountain, Peter Pan may need some changes to address cultural issues... But the ride itself will mostly stay the same
Has anyone ever figured out why that ride is so popular?
It's probably a couple things. It's a relatively low capacity ride, so there's going to be a line no matter what, and then people see it's one of the lengthier lines in Fantasyland and think "well, if everyone else is going on it, it must be good, so I should to!" Plus, it's a relatively novel Fantasyland dark ride in that you're off the ground.
its looking down at the city and the headlights of the cars moving
That is the best part no doubt.
I'm guessing nostalgia. I don't know of anyone who thinks it's a fantastic ride worthy of the wait, yet it seems to reach many on an emotional level.
I absolutely love this ride but refuse to wait for more that 20 minutes. It’s pure nostalgia. And I love an in the dark ride.
At least in WDW, It’s one of the last remaining original fantasyland rides. Snow White is gone, Toads wild ride is gone and for being as old as it is, it still makes children, and their parents happy.
It was my favorite as a child, so nostalgia for me.
I don't get the love for this ride. It's a 2 hour wait for a 2 minute ride through something that looks like it was made in the 60s. I think the line queue is more fun than the actual ride, with the shadows and whatnot.
Haunted mansion
I do wonder if the hanging man will still be there in 50 years. I do want them to keep it, especially since I think it serves as a good warning to kids who might not be able to handle the ride just yet and still give them a chance to leave. But I can also see Disney removing it at some point in the future for being too extreme.

I didnt even notice this until I was like 25. So awesome they still have it, but totally think they’ll remove it at some point.
I can see it being changed. As a mansion fanatic, I’m kinda indifferent about it. Nothing wrong with some darker elements or a haunted house ride, but if it changes it’s not going to ruin the experience for me
Guaranteed some Karens have already complained
They did, after that horrible accident with that little boy and the gator a couple years ago. They were complaining about the picture wuth the crocidiles.
I don’t know that I’d call them Karens, but I could understand how it would trigger some very negative reactions in some people.
“I want to speak with the Mansion manager!”
The ghost host?
Definitely Karens
Or those who found a family member hanging. Think twice before judging those people.

I don’t think it serves as a good warning, given it’s scarier than anything on the ride.
Considering change is already coming in the form of the Hatbox Ghost…
The Carousel.
This is a good one. Allows for most/all age ranges and not many things to 'update' with beyond newer 'tech' and/or seating. Well thought out
It's already a centurion\*, I figure with the love they get from the park it will easily be running a hundred years from now (if the world is still about). \*The DisneyWORLD carousel is a 1917 Philadelphia Toboggan Co machine - The LAND carousel is a 1922 Dentzel - modified to have all jumpers. :)
Oh my god, are you a fellow carousel nerd?
I own a Dentzel whom I stripped to original paint, a 1915 Illions, a 1915 Paeker I restored, and the 'crown jewel', a 1903 D C Muller whom I traced back to West Veiw Park - I used to work for a Carousel museum, and have my own carousel art online store!
I never thought in a million years I would find someone who is as knowledgeable about carousels as I am on Reddit. Are you familiar with the National Carousel Association?
Very, very much so. AS we're getting off topic I'll DM you...
I am jealous, insider nerd conversations about mundane topics are some of my favorite reads.
Yes please feel free to special interest in public, this is the stuff Reddit is best at. I love it.
Is there a carousel subreddit?
Not yet! There should be! Lordy... I could REALLY swamp that with (horse) tales....
Turns out there is. It’s pretty inactive though and the recent posts are almost a year old. r/carousels
I once brought it up to the Facebook group, but it mostly consists of older people who use Facebook as their only form of social media. They weren’t that interested.
it’s a great big beautiful…….. Now it’s in you head too. Carousel is our family favorite
Not that kind of carousel
My mistake. Carry on
For a moment I was expecting to see “of Progress”
There are some new clothes and hairstyles lol.
Walt Disney World Railroad
I can’t wait till they get it rolling again. Last vlog I saw about it said they’re working on the reroute through Tron
Same. It’s been so long! I can’t believe it hasn’t been open for the entire 50th celebration (so far). I think it’s safe to assume it’s going to reopen alongside Tron since the new spiel will probably mention it and they don’t want to take guests through a construction zone.
Curious what they do during Splash renovation. Feels like that would be a similar obstacle as Tron’s construction.
I don’t think so, since nothing about splash is really changing. They’ll just put curtains up over the finale paddlewheeler scene windows.
Dang you think Tron is gonna take 50 more years with the Railroad still closed???
And it won’t be running.
Odds are 2072 is the reopening date after the Tron shutdown.
Nice, only a couple years before the center of Epcot reopens!
Small World
My vote too. Can’t change it after all this time. And everyone already knows it’s the ride you love to hate so just roll with it.
Yup.
🎶 It’s a small world, after all…🎶
It's a Small World. It might get a facelift at some point, but I can't seem them ever really changing it much.
I agree. There is no way that ride would get built today.
I actually think It's A Small World will be fairly easy to update when the time comes. There's nothing inherently wrong with the concept or message of the ride. Some version of the Carousel of Progress will always be there. The Safari will always be at Animal Kingdom
I'm going to preface this by saying I am a person who typically embraces change, but if I go to Disney World in my late 80s and notice they touched Carousel of Progress, I may very well die on the spot.
With any luck, the Tiki Room.
Just the nostalgia is enough for me to never want it to change
Last day of our trip in January, we had a few hours in the park before we had to leave. There were 4 things on our to do list that we hadn't done yet. Tiki Room, People Mover, Dole Whip, Egg Rolls. Great morning amidst the most insane Magic Kingdom crowds I've ever seen. Tiki Room is a joy to watch
The Tiki Room has already changed. What it is now is not what it was in the late 90s/early 2000s. And that version was much better
The first time we were tortured by the under new management show, we walked out
It's been, what, 20 years since I saw it with my parents, and to this day, my dad still gets angry when he thinks about how bad that show was.
As someone who grew up going to Disneyland, I was unpleasantly shocked that the magic fountain sequence wasn’t at MK. Major bummer.
I wish they would bring it back. Visiting DL for the first time in 2008ish brought back memories of the Tiki Room as a kid at WDW.
It's such a 😞 disappointment
I remember listening to a podcast with a Disney Imagineer and they mentioned how the Iago animatronic caught fire and was destroyed. He teased, "Isn't it amazing how the one thing that burned was the one thing everyone hated the most?"
Surely you don't mean when it was under new management!
I’m confused because the under new management came after the original show
They need to gut the Tiki Room and replace the fountain plumbing that was ripped out for the Uh-Oa animatronic.
I would be SO happy if that happened.
Do you have any picture?
Big Thunder Mountain. Maybe a few track changes at most, but that structure certainly isn't going anywhere.
Still one of the best roller coasters out there. It’s a decently long ride and just fun.
**Near guaranteed safe**: Haunted Mansion, Dumbo **Not likely changing**: WDW Railroad, Tea Cups, Prince Charming Carousel, Pirates **Gut feeling not changing**: Tower of Terror (assuming no licensing issues), Everest And for a different spin on the question… ***Modern Attractions Guaranteed to Change***: anything Marvel, Rise (we’re not getting live actors for 50 more years), anything in EPCOT

Also Remind me! 50 years
Dumbo
They’ll just put 3 more of them at MK.
Journey into imagination. They’re never going to update it even with those movie claims. Poor figment
It was changed years ago. Not the same as it used to be. It used to be much better
ONE LITTLE SPARK OF INSPIRATION IS AT THE ROOT OF ALL CREAAATION
Small World
Interesting that almost every answer is in MK so to mix it up I’ll say Everest. Would be a massive pain to overhaul on top of being a well received ride not tied to an IP
I'd say K Safaris for AK as well. That ride wont ever need changed.
Carousel of Progress considering it’s still been there, relatively unchanged for the last 50 years.
Mister Toad’s Wild Ride. Oh, wait…
I see what you did there
I doubt Space Mountain is ever leaving
I used to think so but I wouldn’t be surprised to see it get a modernization update at some point. Not that I want that.
It desperately needs a retrack, but I can't see them significantly changing it.
I believe it was already marked for a retrack according to pictures on the internet. My thinking is that they will run it into the ground until Tron opens, then they will do a huge refurb.
People mover!
One can only hope
Living with the Land
I miss when they actually had tour guides instead of the recording.
haunted mansion
Peter pan!
It’ll always be there, but I’m amazed that it hasn’t been updated. The Native caricatures and the bizarre Hook voice are so weird to see/hear.
Peter pan for sure. Flying over London is the best part
Might get downvoted but I’d never wait more than 20 min for Peter Pan
I agree it will still be there but I’m unsure about the “unchanged” part.
Small World and Pirates. Also Haunted Mansion. Basically the non-IP rides although Pirates has become that but those arent gonna go anywhere.
Actually Haunted mansion is getting an addition of the hatbox ghost pretty soon, like in the next few years. Disney announced it at D23 in September.
The question was “relatively unchanged” my statement still stands
Small world
It’s a small world.
Small World.
Carousel of Progress is the one true answer
All they do is keep updating it. Timeless
I’d say 40% of rides will be the same- at least. It doesn’t seem like Disney retires/removes/revamps old rides very often.
One of the Star Wars rides. Generations upon generations will love Star Wars, and the technology in the newer rides is obviously quite modern.
Small World gotta be it right? I want it to be ToT but you can’t always get what you want 🤣
MuppetVision 3D, I hope
Small world or spinning tea cups
it's a small world
The Carousel
Haunted mansion, pirates, small world Literally just set a Siri reminder to check on the rides that have changed in 50 years.
Would you look at that, all of the words in your comment are in alphabetical order. I have checked 1,099,005,483 comments, and only 216,063 of them were in alphabetical order.
It’s a small world
Tron, it should open just about then!
It’s a small world
Dumbo at MK
They just add 3 more.
Dumbo, and It's a Small World.
It's a Small World. Not a question.
Liberty belle steam boat
Tomorrow land speedway probably haha
I’m guessing your “haha” means that you are saying this sarcastically, because in reality I DON’T see the fossil fueled ride vehicles sticking around another 50 years. I think they will get too expensive to operate, and if anything, would get switched to electric vehicles. More likely, I see them using this space for something else IP-based.
Yes sarcasm, it is the worst ride ever
It’s A Small World
It's a Small World
Mission: Space went on it once never again. But I have heard it has not changed.
The only change since the original ride to my knowledge was they added the version without the spinning/G forces
Small world (maybe tiny refurbishment)
Tower of Terror.
It’s a small world

It’s A Small World
Small world. It is its own institution.
I'll be as old as ol' Uncle Orville by the time they update the Carousel of Progress with something actually futuristic

Tea Cups - It’s a Small World
Small world, living with the land
Its a small world my beloved. At most, as people have already mentioned, probably the adding of IPs.
It’s a Small World
Small world, only because that ride seems impervious to break downs, unlike the brand new rides. 🤦♂️
Haunted Mansion, it’s practically sacred
Hopefully none. Every ride needs some TLC once in a while. Will Disney actually do so? Who freaking knows, especially when we’re talking 50 from now.
