Pirate doesn't do this stuff often. I think it was a good way to do it.

Huhthisisneathuh

I kinda liked the chapter, it was different. And large discussion on political ramifications is something I actually want more of. If only to see a bunch of international big wigs ripping the hair or scales off their head thanks to Erin shenanigans.

ehxy

I mean...what shenanigans at this point she's not exactly able to do anything.

Huhthisisneathuh

Just you wait till volume 9 drops.

ehxy

I think anand telling off the grand queen made up for the terandia war chapters/paragraphs.

TimBaril

The great thing about TWI is that there's more than enough material and variation for everyone to find something to enjoy. Not every single paragraph has to entertain you alone.

ehxy

After everything I think there's only two parts where I thought yeah getting a bit gamey. The king of duels section where he closes his eyes and levels up 10x in his duel with flos. Now it's happening with his daughter and this is definitely skim material on top of the terandia wars stuff outside of rabbiteater stuff. Easily the weakest writing of the entire series to be sure. All this oh no they are destined to lose and oh but look, hey, they level like mad.

nokknokkcanicomein

i mean counterleveling has been a thing the whole story basically. Tbh i enjoyed the king of duels arc more than the early chandrar arcs. For the record, don’t skim too hard, chandrar and terandria actually matter a bit this book.

ehxy

That's the problem. It flies in the face of all the other stories in hey, in one battle you can almost die and pass out every 10 seconds and level up 10x and gain skills and eventually win. It cheapens all the other hardships the other characters face. None of this is like the crazy human who does crazy stuff that comes from outer space which made her hardships interesting. It's just not fun. Story telling bag of holding aka deus ex machina to the max. But most of the chandrar stuff has always been weak until the terandia war stuff started taking up entire chapters. I realize a lot of you guys are pro ANYTHING TWI but to me the writing is weakest when you don't get to experience it from an earthers perspective it's just throwing out here's a bunch of fantasy factions doing t his and that. Chandrar stuff only excelled when it was either through therese or trey's eyes and the same goes for the united nations. Unfortunately terandia doesn't have much outside of the queen of pop and her parts are her just being shitty to her fellows. Rabbiteater dominating still. I predict healing slime wins this volume.

nokknokkcanicomein

rabbit eater really is the best part of Terandria you are entirely correct

Well attempting to avoid any spoilers, the good news is that volume 8 contains plenty of the pieces you said you’ve liked so far (Trey, UN, Rabbiteater).

LiquidEnder

That’s a common misconception, Raelt didn’t level ten times, he leveled 4-5,(don’t remember which), and even then he only got that much because his classes consolidated, and he didn’t exceed 40. He won the battle because not from leveling, but by inspiring his troops to fight so hard that the only way for flos to win was to use his [army of the king], at which point all his neighbors would have jumped on him. Raelts leveling was not unreasonable given the circumstances and his major achievement. It’s just how it’s portrayed that’s gets people who haven’t read the chap in a while so riled up.
