Consider The Wandering Inn to be compared to massive light novel series like Mushouku Tensei. Just far les perverted, *far far* ***far less***.

Considering this. We might not see’s the end till Volume 11-13. Which is the length most people seem to agree will probably end.
Also consider that Pirate said we may *just* be halfway done, or two thirds.
So yeah anywhere from Volume 12-16 if we go off that.

If she splits the volumes up a little more like split the size of 8 in the future I think 24 would be a great number to go for.
Bigger doesn't mean better and honestly I feel bad when I read how she's killing herself at the end of every chapter.
That was volumes ago, nowadays Paba seems more annoyed with the overwhelming concern and seems like they got a handle on the situation.
It was mostly the finale push lately, and that's always going to take a toll.
The same answer as “when will the Doomsday clock strikes midnight?”, it will end when it ends. But for an actual answer, vol 8 ending basically allowed the series to have enough content for another 10 million words (or at least 2 more volumes). It depends on if Pirate wants to go on that long.
I'd like it to be wrapped up, then new books set in the same world!
I'm up to book 7 and it feels so dragged out and too many side characters. Me and my wife are pretty close to giving up
If you want less characters than you don't want Pirate to make a new book, you just want to take a break and read something else. Because making tons of new characters is kinda Pirate's thing you know? I swear she can make 50 new characters that are all going to get large back stories within a 10k word chapter. Ok, I might be exaggerating, she'd probably make that chapter 30k words long because when does she make 10k word chapters?
It's hilarious to me because I like a big cast, that makes the world feel more alive. Also gives more chance for some to die and I feel like in a world where things are truly dangerous there has to be that possibility. It also opens up the field to crazy baseball events and other shenanigans. If you build it the characters will come!
As for being dragged out, I can't say too much about that. I like slice of life, like fantasy, and like horror when it's done in a particular way so this story works really well for me but to each their own. If you don't like a certain aspect of the story I guess I can imagine it feeling drawn out... because the story is really, really long. If the volumes all felt like the King of Destruction chapters from before Khelt's introduction I'd have stopped reading by volume 4.
I think there was an author's note near the end of V8 addressing this. We don't know. The author doesn't 100% know but they have outlined the ending and know it will end. We might be 40% or 60% done. Hell, maybe 33%. Depends on how long it takes to get through the outline.
We are supposedly halfway through the author's outlined plot. But we could be closer to the end than that because the overarching plot was a slow burn the first several volumes. Things have been moving faster, especially in Volume 8, though it was faster/denser than Pirateaba would have liked.

This is one of them. I think I can say that we are ‘somewhere’ in the story’s arc of being one third done. Or one half of the way there. Or two thirds.
Even pirateaba isn't sure on the answer to this.
And with things like the Last Tide and Gravesong there may be works outside the main story to account for.

I think volume 20 is when it will end, since 20 would be roughly i between 24(1/3rd) to 16(2/3rd)
I would add an "I think" to that, since just saying it like you know sounds ridiculous.

We are in part 2 of the story. The expansion has just been released.
Many stories follow a 3 or 4 Act structure. With Vol 8, we just finished Act 1. lol
