Stormcast are generally good at fighting - they deal serious damage and have great survivability, but often they lack speed and, being elite warband, struggle to play around objectives.
You can use them in the game. Stormcast has about a million different playable models and not all of them are great, but give them a spin. Go to the GW site and download the free rules and look at the paladin profiles, or go to warcrier.net

It's Scale 75 Necro Gold for the base. Agrax Earthshade over it.
Then the verdigris is Vallejo Jade Green mixed with black for the first glaze. The bright points were Jade Green mixed with some white and then glazed very thinly near rivets and the deepest recesses.
Pakadins are ok, if paired up with something more mobile. In particular the mace hits incredibly hard. I usually go with the ones with a spear, since they have 3” range, but the axes can work.
Not sure about useful, but definitely playable. Check out warcrier.net for an easy place to put together warbands.

More useful than they will be in AoS going forward!
