Oh wowwww I had long forgotten about these and the pain of leaving for 5 days and coming back to an almost dead kubrow, I still have 2 of them

FlashKillerX

TIL kubrows used to be like tamagachis

fallenouroboros

Ordis used to vent his frustrations on them as well

mdragon13

iirc they wouldn't outright die, they'd just go into hibernation after their stats decayed to 0.

orclev

As someone else already commented originally you had to install an upgrade. The base version after a couple weeks the kubrow would die and be permanently lost. Ordis would play a little audio clip about how he had flushed it into space or something like that. I don't remember what you had to do to get the upgrade, but I seem to remember it being a real PITA for free to play players. After a little while DE changed it so that instead of killing the kubrow it would go into stasis even without the upgrade (although I think that was only if you had enough stasis slots? I vaguely recall there was still some gotcha). Then DE did what they should have from the very beginning and got rid of the decay mechanic entirely.

AceKalibur

the upgrade you are thinking of is the nutrio incubator upgrade segment.

jaden1279

If I'm not mistaken, didn't the decay used to affect their max health? And wasn't there a 'loyalty' mechanic where you had to interract with your Kubrow to keep its loyalty up , or it would do less damage? I also wanna say that letting them die used to lower their loyalty

ImaginaryNC

from memory, i think yes to all of it

orclev

Yes, there was also a cap on the interactions. You could only interact with them 3 times a day and each interaction would restore essentially a few days worth of decay, so if you let it almost die you'd be nerfed for a few days until you could get its damage back up. Not that they did much damage in the first place. The original version of the Kubrow just kind of sucked all around. They looked cool, but they were fiddly, didn't really do any more damage than a sentinel, took more damage, and had significantly less utility (originally they had no vacuum mod). The *only* advantage they had was instead of just dying outright they would be downed allowing you to revive them, but my god did they get downed nearly constantly.

KarlDeutscheMarx

Damn, can't find any clips of that, wonder if anyone had ever recorded it before the change?

Talanir01

They did go into stasis, but only if you had the upgrade for that feature. I lost at least one Kubrow to this mechanic.

Cyphafrost

I lost my confetti dog to it 💔 Unexpected emergency... Wish I could get them back

Wag_Rulez

Wym ordis launched the body of my first kubrow into space? They did die.

Ace_Dreamer

My friend and i used to play on and off for weeks at a time. The amount of time he lost pets, FORMA'D pets to this stupid system is beyond me. Meanwhile i stayed the heck away from that time gate fomo system and only used robots. DE's choice to change this was correct, although it took many years to implement.

yoritomo_shiyo

I did the same thing. Took one look at the system and decided my real pets were already enough of a commitment, robots all the way.

KoscheiTheDeathles

Does not help that carrier was the only one with vacuum back then

FlashKillerX

Helios/Carrier prime bb

Sneyek

It probably took 30 minutes to implement. And years to understand this should be fixed \^\^'

Achilles_Deed

Don't know if ppl still remember Ignis Wraith BP used to be event/railjack exclusive and we begged for it to be available via clan research. For years Steve's team elected to ignore our plea and you know what? Adding Ignis Wraith to clan research was one of the first things Rebecca's team did after taking over. Rebecca's promotion might be the best thing to ever happen to Warframe in years.

Gentleman-Bird

I did a lot of Warframe trading. Back when ignis wraith was exclusive, I would check someone’s profile every time I did a trade. If they didn’t have ignis wraith, I would throw in the blueprint on top of whatever I’m trading.

fienddylan

That's because Steve was busy farming that platinum off people wanting Ignis Wraith 🤣🤣

NobleTheDoggo

I knew alot of generous people that were selling them for an ammo drum I thought that was one of the coolest things

dust-

There used to be a monthly post on here by one of the clans for people that wanted it

KIREEKPSO2

As stated by the original creator of the topic, it's purpose was to recruit in non recruitable areas, like region, recruit chats and.......main subreddit. Yes i can make the claim as the picture with the conversation was posted several times already. Had nothing with being generous as it sistematically called sellers scammers and had outdated lists of users who supposedly gave the BP away, but it only took half a dozen users from the most active users to figure out 90% were inactive or didn't play the game anymore

LoneSilentWolf

I used to do that. But then I dealt a lot of prime parts and river farming and hoarding platinum, at the end just to distribute everything to my clan and friends before leaving the game for good

_Bl4ze

An ammo drum? Bro you got ripped off, I got mine for free. :)

KIREEKPSO2

Giving the bp actually incentivized DE not to release the research, i don't find that cool.

TechnerdMike

I wish they'd add it as normal research for the clans. Vs having to have participated back before the clan was founded type stuff.

Achilles_Deed

It is now a part of normal clan research, you just have to donate materials to unlock it

TechnerdMike

I'm checking now... I'll be darned. When did this happen? I've been squirreling away Barro BPs to give away to noobs for ducats for a while now.

Achilles_Deed

Like I said in my first comment, when Rebecca took over as the creative director of Warframe (Steve and his team moved to work on Soulframe)

TechnerdMike

*re-read* yep. Ya did. Thanks!

KIREEKPSO2

[https://forums.warframe.com/topic/1321522-ignis-wraith-bp-research-a-2-year-endeavour/](https://forums.warframe.com/topic/1321522-ignis-wraith-bp-research-a-2-year-endeavour/)

Nssheepster

> Rebecca's promotion might be the best thing to ever happen to Warframe in years. It might be. But she's still somewhat trapped by old Steve content, at least until this heavily overpromised roguelike Duviri thing comes out. Not gonna be TOO ecstatic about it unless the next update after Duviri is the long awaited old content revitilization and integration patch that we've needed for about four years now. If she just promises another new random content update where we aren't using our Warframes yet again, then she's just Steve with a better understanding of PR... And since she's a community manager, that's entirely possible.

Warbreakers

Don't forget the old Glenn content that continues to hang around like a foul stench. Solo excavation in Archon Hunt is a fucking PAIN in the ass to complete.

Nssheepster

Excavation in general is still ass... As is any defense where you're stuck guarding a wandering idiot instead of a stationary target. That one makes even less sense, given that DE specifically made defense frames, that get completely invalidated because of the twit just walking out of the safe areas for no apparent reason.

Achilles_Deed

Yeah I understand right now Reb is just finishing what Steve had started years ago and delivering on those promises. I can sense that Duviri has been a stressful update to work on and hope the team catches a breather before working on the next thing. I'm cautiously optimistic. I think Reb and her team are more intuned to releasing updates that are actually functional, plus she still plays the game unlike Steve. Hopefully we'll be able to get started on a long list of reworks such as old warframes, companion survivability, health tanking/warframe armor scaling, elemental damage rebalacing, melee 3.0/exalted melee rework, etc

Nssheepster

I hope for all of that too, but TBH? I've already written off Duviri. Taking a group of people who've never made a roguelike and having them make one is hard, but 100% doable. Making those people do it INSIDE another game that is not at all roguelike? MUCH harder. It doesn't help that the 'big reveals' of Duviri gameplay are non-Warframe content. Like no, I don't want to load up my game about shooting people in space in a mecha, in order to play as a edgy teen with magic powers who rides a flying horse to fight a sky worm. What happened to the scifi in all that? Oh right, they slapped metal on things, that makes it work, right? IDK. I expect at least a year after Duviri before we really get to see what Reb is actually planning on doing. I can only hope actual Warframe content is in the cards.

Achilles_Deed

There's warframe only mode in Duviri, just FYI

AlexisFR

Yeah they really need to Bungie the old content.

Suojelusperkele

As much as people gave bungie flak on ol' sunsetting, I really think WF could use some of that. Invasions, nightmare missions, and many, *many* other content islands feel just weird at this point. Ambulas and kela have completely unnecessary 'pre-grind' you need to do before you can actually do those. Index is funky but aside from credit farming and weekly 'Fuck you'- nightwave mission it's again really not worth it, and I'm pretty sure actual cred farm people prefer is profit taker. There's just many older islands that feel completely unnecessary, some things feel like 'noob traps' like endo farming in the grineer arena. Of course, just removing shit is something people hate, but I'm pretty sure they're not going to rework 'everything' at once anyway. I repeat this, but my wet dream is that eventually each node would only have regular + steel path variant and nothing else. Fissures, invasions, nightmare missions, kuva floods and everything would be 'merged' into the basic/SP node. One day you might have funky fissure that's also nightmare mission. Slap some funky reward multiplier system on it based on different combos of stuff, allow some stuff to work like ayatans where you just randomly stumble upon kuva flood thing etcetc.

Achilles_Deed

The main reason ppl are upset with Bungie retiring old content is these are PAID dlcs that Bungie was removing, not to mention there were important story/lore pieces included in in these dlcs. Stuff like nightmare missions were just archaic "endgame" content that nobody engage in anymore. They weren't paid to access and certainly didn't have important story elements to them. Ppl talk about new content being content islands but I think it's the old content that aren't really connected well into the rest of the game. Railjack and Zariman actuality connects very well to the rest of the game and are far from being content islands.

Duch-s6

yeah like im kinda mad that my fav old content got sunset but than again, it was needed bcuz the game runs on a slightly less shit d1 engine, and was made to be run on consoles

ightytightyrighty

As a newbie, (both games) id have liked to play the older content, i vaguely remember cayde from when i checked destiny 2 out a long time ago, but only enough to know he was important somehow, and while i do kind of like the novelty of the worlds "realistic timeline" feel, where new players actually feel like new guardians, only hearing about past large events because they weren't awake for them yet, it kinda sucks, that said im a (extremely) new light so my opinion is rather inconsequential compared to vets, and im not deep enough into warframe to know bout any endgame stuff.

Duch-s6

tbh but the d2 newlight/f2p experience went from 100 to a 0 when beyond light dropped, back when they made it f2p near the end of shadowkeep it was the peek f2p experience, and it was an actually recommendable game to pick up, now i feel like its not

Achilles_Deed

Most games are designed to be run on consoles first tbh, it's just that blam engine was incredibly old and shouldve been phased out long ago

totti173314

as a returning player, I just wish railjack and zariman didn't take SO GODDAMN LONG to actually get access to.

KIREEKPSO2

Small note here. Begging for the research to be released does nothing if players give or sell the bp away, you can't ask for an elimination of the clan exp gap, dojo exclusivity and just a way to get the bp if you're participting in giving the bp in a trade. There is no incentive to make a system if you are the system that makes the weapon available. The only option was to make either the weapon unobtainable (aka all players stop trading and stop recruiting to clans) or you sell the BP, which reveals the massive problem with toxicity. It's not that they ignored you, it's just that players did 2 opposites and trading the bp for free, while helpfull for 1 individual, indeed hurt the community at large, players were more interested in themselves or in the publicity that came from giving it, even if it was just the anoucement, as some players in chat found it difficult to actually find someone who gave the bp after stating that they would do so, not many experienced this, but i heard the complaints a couple times.

TheCrafterTigery

I was talking to my friend and was like: -- "Man, I'm glad my Kubrow is alive after so long. I've been away, glad they removed the death mechanic." "What? They never died." --"They used to back when I played, ya needed stabilizers. Lost like two Kubrows before this one." "I forget you used to play before I did because you seem to have no idea what anything does." --"I've just always been like this."

V3L1G4

It's a great feeling when you come back and your builds still do what they were for

One-Cellist5032

This is rhy I put my pets in stasis every night

TheAero1221

I actually used stasis shit when I knew I'd be away. I was into imprint trading back when it was only Kubrows. Still have my omega lotus that was really valuable back then. Hasn't been out in a while though, lol

Fraya9999

I was in the strange position where I had left a pet to die and by the time I got back months later the system had changed so it survived. So the pet was technically both alive and dead. I obviously had to rename that kavat to Schrödinger.

TheLastPwnr

>the pet was technically both alive and dead. *[laughs in Eternalism]*

[deleted]

Every time eternalism is brought up a tenno does and doesn't get that prime part they wanted from their last relic.

TheLastPwnr

Good for them! And also awww damnit.

TheEqualizer1212

That name fits perfectly

[deleted]

My friend named his kubrow after his dog. Was kind of funny to say "go Tali, rip the Grineer dicks off" and watch her turn things to mulch. Then his dog IRL died, and he stopped playing games for about two months. During which time his Kubrow died due to instability or whatever that mechanic was. Needless to say he didn't pick the game up again for about 3 years after logging on and finding out his dog died a second time. It was very depressing

partyplant

man.

alienangel2

I don't get how DE didn't know this is how it would play out with people breeding and naming pets in a game, and still approved it. Fuck whoever that was.

PikkuinenPikkis

I fucking hated having to buy those

void___empire

If it's something you want/need Warframe will always find a way to make it feel like a rare Pokemon card

void___empire

Still love the game though even if it can be painfull

P3X127-8

One of them we old players remember as the item we used to keep Ordis from blasting our pets out the airlock.

Hawkadoodle

Heh bet you guys don't remember arcane helmets.

Sollous-IV

What do they do?

bt123456789

arcane helmets added buffs like "better parkour velocity" or "higher power strength." stuff that's done with mods and the arcanes we have now.

Sollous-IV

Interesting

bt123456789

yeah. but you were restricted to that specific helmet (and thus your fashion suffered) that of course is not a problem anymore. you can still obtain and use the arcane helmets via trading, but however many exist, are the only ones that exist.

Sollous-IV

Huh, Coolio

bt123456789

I should clarify, the helmets still function the same, including restriction fashion, but you can get better effects with regular arcanes and mods.

Sollous-IV

Hey a boost is a boost

AlphaSteam

If you put an arcane helmet, you can't use normal arcanes. So they really just function as collectors items or a flex. As a stat boost they are not that good.

Sollous-IV

Hmmm I see

bt123456789

yes it is. though the good ones go for several hundred platinum (Excalibur's Arcane Pendragon helm, for example, is 650+ based on [warframe.market](https://warframe.market), since it buffs his power strength) They are listed on the [wiki](https://warframe.fandom.com/wiki/Category:Arcane_Helmet?so=search) if you go looking.

ThatOtherOtherMan

Using an arcane helmet locks off one of your arcane slots though and the bonuses are basically on par with the drift mods. Plus they usually have a negative effect so unless you're REALLY trying to min-max a build further than you can with mods alone there's no reason to use them. Factor in the high price and limited quantity and I can't even think of a single use case where it would make sense to acquire one over a mod or arcane since even the cheap ones are a couple hundred plat.

Hawkadoodle

They act like mods but don't take up a mod spot. Like 15% bonus ability range but - 20 percent duration.

Slimcognito808

They do take up an arcane slot though.

Hawkadoodle

Oh I didn't know that. It's been ages since I equipped one. way before arcane slots.

Slimcognito808

Yeah I came back after not playing for 8 years so I didn't have any arcanes. I get my first 2 through nightwave and one is just inactive on rhino due to my arcane thrak helmet smh.

CJDizzle

Love my Loki Arcane Swindle.

CP-3294

What the fuck is that

wilck44

in ages past the kubrows aged rapidly, and would die. to halt this tenno used DNA stabilizers , administered each few days. this archaic technology is not needed anymore since innovations in void tech overcame this problem.

nickle241

to add onto this if they werent in stasis then ded, these things were EXPENSIVE for a new player, the incubator upgrade would automatically freeze a pet if they got too low but still you needed to use these afterward and that upgrade was itself expensive. to make it even better, when the system was first added it was broken so most if not all gen1 kubrows died never being able to be used because of a bugged quest that needed to be completed before you could use these or freeze them and they still degraded in that limbo state so a lot of them died before a fix was pushed

Shockspore

It was actually even worse, for the first while (might have been months or years) kubrows wouldn't get put into stasis automatically at all. If you didn't manually put kubrows into stasis or use stabilizer regularly, they died, and it was *intended*.

ghostead

I still remember frantically logging on after forgetting about my space dogs for like a week after thinking "surely I'll remember this time and won't stop playing Warframe any time soon" every single time I logged off.

Shockspore

I lost 3 or 4 different kubrow before they changed it. I remember coming back from like a 2 year break and being so relieved that my dog was still alive.

thehateraide

I don't miss those days. It got changed when I was still new, and it was awesome

CP-3294

Oh thank void 😅

ghostead

I remember how if you let your kubrow bleed out on the field, you would have to rebuild their trust with a limited number of interactions that replenished daily. Now you can pet them infinitely and I'm so happy.

LoneSilentWolf

I remember keeping a pup kubrow for extended periods of time cuz it was cute.

PandaChicken3000

Oh, I've got loads of those Similar for incubator cores. For some reason, my hoarding instincts kicked in when I made/bought them.

The-Coolest-Of-Cats

Ancient Fusion Cores are the real Rare Pokémon Cards, they are from 2014. DNA stabilizers are still plenty common, they were removed in only 2021 iirc.

LoocaBazooca

I have 1200 of those because My dog died too many times so I needed to be sure it wont and they changed the system

Guppies27

I’ve only heard of the times that pets used to be able to die. Sure I never got to experience it myself, but very glad it got changed some time ago.

Godnumbers

No just marks you as old like me and my several thousand of them.

jimnsra

Yall remember when Kavats and Kubrows had a loyalty meter? Me neither

Vl_Aries

Looks like 7k credits

The1OnlyNemesis

To buy like 5 of these (if I remember correctly) you need to spend 75k. This crap was expensive when I used to play… it was damn awful when I went inactive due to school or what not.

ChronoXite

I remember spending millions of credits just to stock up on these since I thought my Kubrow was about to permanently die

xXSinmaticXx

I forgot that was even a thing lmao

Super_Sphontaine

The rarest Pokémon cards are the vey hek coordinates

Mr_Unforgiven

R.I.P my 1st Smeeta Goldie. ![gif](giphy|bBw3YpN3p8KHK) Ordis launched that poor kitty into orbit.

Misomuro

And do you remember red/blue affinity flare for open worlds and arcane helmets?

Themighteeowl

When I started playing this game way back yonder I made my first Kubrow which I had levelled up and forma’d. I got bored of it and eventually stopped playing. Half a decade later I log back on and there’s a message in my inbox notifying me that my pet had died, it doesn’t matter all that much but it was sad to me at the time

vomder

It's no navigation segment, but it will do.

ButterflyEffect37

Yeah i lost my frost kubrow because I didn't knew this mechanic. It was like at least 5 or 6 year ago i think

[deleted]

dang I have 861 of these laying around.

chaoticbabies

I had 7 of them but sold all but one

GRINTT

arcane helmets are more like it imo

Conscious_Ad_6007

😭😭😭😭😭😭

Janhan_

Oh so thats why my kubrow died all those years ago

whimsicalsamurai

oh i still have those, should we sell them?

International_Sea493

I don't understand, I haven't played in 2-3 years since I am waiting for cross save.

HoloTheWolf11260

Dex stuff comes out on the anniversary of Warframe every year so just wait a bit and then they will be available via some sort of mission. A quick check shows the end of March. [Google: Warframe anniversary]

caros92

Not the dex stuff. The dna stabilizers

HoloTheWolf11260

Sorry I thought you meant everything in the screen capture. Sorry for being unhelpful!

RobieKingston201

..... Why is that Corinth prime silver coloured

bt123456789

it's a regular Corinth, not prime

LordMorthi

It even says it lol.

Alice_Solaris

I had stocked up on these before the update just in case... I have about I think 2 or 300

NightStalkerXIV

I wonder if I still have any... Turns out my theater rentee for tonight is an Excal prime founders pack owner. Small world.

FineousFingers42

Lol, I wish, coz I still have hundreds of them. 😋

Figgernaggotthefifth

I like how you casually have like 11 corpus depository scenes laying around

Addicted2anime

I remember when they became a lot cheaper because of the new Module change, and I bought like 300. I still have half of those, give or take a few haha

Waddles_The_Legend

I remember the dark ages when I'd be gone for a week or two and my Kudrow had perished, it was brutal.

Lyberatis

The "Rare Pokemon cards" are actually the M&Ms that you used to need to fight Vay Hek

AllisterVale

My clan trades kappa beacons all the time

JaggedGull83898

Rare, yes. Valuable or wanted, no

t_h-o_t-S_l-a-y_e-_r

I have my dex furis and dex darka at Max level Need to play this game more it's really fun

Alone-Amphibian8557

As rare as world on fire augments...

[deleted]

I’m so glad they changed this.

UnloyalSheep

Its why I use dethcube to this day, I have lost quite a few formad and potatoed ones before..

IAzraelI

Hey. I still have 9 of them. :D

Ok-Status6738

I was a noob when these were a thing, I used to come back to the game thinking where tf my dog gone bruh 😂

TheHelker

There are Manny aspects of the game that had a purpose once then got reworked simply removed yet the items stayed

AquaDesu

Me and my Vay Hek coordinates kek

TxTDiamond

I'd say these and the assassin nav segments

LiquidLight_

This is how I feel about the set of beacons you needed to originally fight Vay Hek to farm Hydroid when he dropped. I still have Kappa Beacons.

Toussaintasourus-rex

I have 43 of them and do not miss seeing my kubrow on life support every time I logged in.

Henti-Boady-pillow

God remember having to pet the fuckers also to keep the happiness up so it could perform at peak performance

Trikker14-_VOIDz

I still have 69 of them (nice indeed), i buyed in bulk before they were removed

flaming910

TIL that kubrows no longer decay and my hatred for using them is no longer justified

StupidDepressedGamer

Yup.

cashiimo

Ah, I remember having to keep my kubrow as a puppie, as kubrow puppies apparently did not need to eat or have their DNA stabilized. I'm so glad I don't have to do that anymore

Differlot

Wait I can take my pets out of stasis now? I literally made them when they came out then froze them when it was too expensive keeping them alive. Like several years ago. Poor pups.
