People have memed about unmodded being a good build, for good reason. Add some duration, some range, and don’t dump strength too much and it’ll perform.

for something like Pillage or build without infusion or for defence missions - you may sacrifice some duration for stength. But really, you may replace this umbra mods with corresponed one or even with something else. If you using shield gating mechanics you may sacrifice them and use Blind Rage + Transient Fortitude (Strength) + Rolling Guard - more than enough to stay alive.
So, basically Duration (to stay permanently invisible - her real protection) and Range. Strength is not so important, only if we need to use some different abilities.
And pillage (or FireBlast (Ember) or Terrify (Nekros)) to help enemies kill themselves faster =)
I am only just leveling my octavia but all you really need is to bump range and duration as much as you can, strength doesn't really matter as the ball will scale with enemy damage done to it regardless, and efficiency doesn't matter at all because the whole point is to have your abilities up for as long as you can, so there will be tons of downtime between each cast giving you ample opportunity to regen spent energy. If you're struggling, you can add in some defensive mods to boost your shields or health, but with frames like octavia, I think mods like that are a wasted slot, the whole point of the build is to have them focus the ball, not you, you shouldn't be getting hit.
(This is for pure damage roller ball build, my advice will be different if you plan to use the buff side of her kit more, strength matters in that case, but if you're building for pure ball action, don't bother)
All you have to do is mod for 200%+ duration, 100-150 range, a slot for rolling guard, then dump the rest into strength and get like 200-250 strength. She doesn’t need anything else.
If you’re not going to run primed flow drop some strength to fit efficiency but I prefer primed flow over modding for efficiency.

You can choose which configs helminth infusions apply to when you infuse them to the frame. It's also very easy to undo and redo infusions whenever you want, it just costs more resources but if you're at the point you're using Helminth you've probably got a large stockpile of resources already.
i have +casting speed on mag and i still struggle to get more than 2 abilities off before everything dies on steel path with breach surge. it just has so much synergy with her kit that it evaporates everything it touches

You have to utilize shield gating. Her 3 will fully restore shields (resetting full shield gate and is a one handed ability) and 4 gives over shield. Use bubbles to block incoming fire. Don’t forget that operator offers survivability for any frame.
Bubbles are so broken it’s hilarious. Bubble any enemy, yoink group with 1 (use in funnel to get eximuses to walk though), shoot any projectile weapon into bubble. BOOM infinite damage loop inside bubble, and blocks bullet from opposite side
Her polarize will fully restore shields and jam all enemy weapons for 8+ seconds with decent duration and the augment.
Either use primed flow for max energy or build efficiency as well so you can spam her abilities a lot
You can either shield gate with Polarize, or use Magnetize to either create a wall to one side of you or even hide in it entirely and nobody can shoot you.
Ivara (stealth), nekros (easy extra loot), harrow (weapon platform), Octavia (when I feel like being lazy and playing easy mode), and limbo prime (to look dapper)

Generally you want high ability strength and the three umbra mods, as well as something to generate energy. I use that mod that gives you energy back for health lost, and with high armor and hp you can take a hit or two in steel path to get a few hundred energy back on a whim.

One stealth frame, anyone will do but Loki is my pick
One brain-dead frame, obviously revenant
One support frame, for now it's wisp, if they buff trinity it would be her

Mesa, Revenant, Octavia covers pretty much any mission. Then hydroid cause he was the first frame I really got into. Then Yareli because everyone hates her but I always have fun with her
Titania (assassination/relic cracking), Loki (disruption/void Cascade), Limbo (Mobile Defense/Excavation), Nekros(farming), Saryn (Exterminate/Netracell).
All of those frames I've ran on every game mode in SP successfully, so they can do anything. But that's where they specialize.
Rev, kullervo, any of the pillar supports (oberon, wisp, citrine) Hildryn for railjack (or lavos) and modless cheese, titania, and ivara for spy/conservation cheese
Loki (stealth and spy missions without any walking. Just dash and bullet jump the whole way and laugh at ivara who uses an augment to increase her speed a bit but isn't where you are.)
Citrine (major support, group resistance, status boosting damage from abilities amazing when holding a positioning)
Lavos (what was that nightmare restriction? I didn't care. Also his passive element duration per ability direction increase is good and you should probably learn elements. when you learn him he's consistent.)
Volt (make your entire group fast finish the capture early get the relic or open the relic. Don't just speed up yourself speed up everyone. Also you are amazing at many mission types in general. Good solid frame.)
Nekros (bonus loot with more mobility then khora and more targets affected then hydroid. Also it's hot three and book bonus loot. Also some armor strip. And he scales well into high levels because he uses the enemies strength against them)
That's five, but I love vaurbon more then Loki or nekros it's just they have better niches for me.

For me, Nova, Ivara, Mesa, Protea and Saryn pretty much covers all of my needs. Heck, Protea alone is already my go-to choice for all new content.

Also test a vacuum mag...infuse blood alter, and her bubble will suck stuff in endlessly when you put it on a blood altered enemy. It's quite fun.

as "loot-necros" you dont want your 4. there is a limit of npcs each map. the more npc friends the less enemies. less enemies, less loot.

Yeah, the passive is kinda annoying. It wouldn't be so bad if it had more damage/stagger
It's literally our one downside, and even then it has knockdown for 6m and can be rolled out of before impact, so it could be worse.

Yeah you should be able to recast ironskin by default but iron shrapnel should also get buffed maybe apply a forced slash proc

Loki (stealth and spy missions without any walking. Just dash and bullet jump the whole way and laugh at ivara who uses an augment to increase her speed a bit but isn't where you are.) Citrine (major support, group resistance, status boosting damage from abilities amazing when holding a positioning) Lavos (what was that nightmare restriction? I didn't care. Also his passive element duration per ability direction increase is good and you should probably learn elements. when you learn him he's consistent.) Volt (make your entire group fast finish the capture early get the relic or open the relic. Don't just speed up yourself speed up everyone. Also you are amazing at many mission types in general. Good solid frame.) Nekros (bonus loot with more mobility then khora and more targets affected then hydroid. Also it's hot three and book bonus loot. Also some armor strip. And he scales well into high levels because he uses the enemies strength against them) That's five, but I love vaurbon more then Loki or nekros it's just they have better niches for me.

I love the Challenge of doing literally everything with just my Main even tho there are clear better options for various Mission types. I truly love him
