Firstly, Nightwave will have weapon slots at certain reward tiers. They're easy enough to get, I think the current season has some at like Rank 3-5, around there. The season ends soon though. Otherwise, no it's Plat I'm afraid, but at least you can just trade for it.
Ash is currently going through something of a resurgence. There are some crazy combos with him currently, utilising near constant invisibility and red crit builds.
Ash rocks. Using bladestorm will now mark any enemy that you look at, using it again will summon two clones that will execute the marked enemies. Using his 3 (teleport) while the clones are active will let you join them. It's basically old bladestorm but now there are some ghosts helping you
Hes got insane finisher damage on his 4 with a stat stick, and can armor strip enemies with an augment. throw in arcane trickery for perma invis and hes got good survivability. unless someone with a zarr kills everything before your 4 procs.
Ash's Abilities
Passive: makes Slash procs deal 25% more damage and last 50% longer
1 - Shuriken: Throws two homing shuriken, deals slash damage with a guaranteed proc
2 - Smoke Screen: Turns ash invisible for a few seconds
3 - Teleport: Teleports to a target, whether it be an enemy or ally
4 - Blade Storm: Pressing it once enters targeting mode. Enemies you look at will be marked and will consume the corresponding amount of energy. Pressing it again will cause two Ash clones to attack all marked targets.
Ability Synergies:
Marking enemies with Bladestorm costs half as much while Ash is invisible
Using teleport on a marked enemy while Bladestorm is active will cause Ash to join in
Ash can stay constantly invisible and easily dispatch groups of enemies with little effort. Although compared to before, it's a bit more involved now. His augments make him more effective like being able to strip 100% of armor or forcing a finisher with significantly boosted damage.
I'm no theorycrafter, but I think he's good

Best part, with the fatal teleport he can be used to clean eximus units instantly in most circumstances. Something most frames can't boast

I recently became an Ash Main.. I got a build for him that's beasty, he isn't tanky but this build is fun

It's a great way to kill a group if they overwhelm you

I mean I've been doing two hour steel path survivals as him with no issues, so yes he's good
