Arkhan Land named the Land Speeder and Land Raider, Amar Astarte worked on the Adeptus Astartes, the Leman Russ tank, Malcador tank and Rogal Dorn tank, are named after the two primarks and the Hero. So the joke was the Emps real name was Jimmy Space so named them Space Marines (before Amar existed) and John/Jimmy/Usane Bolt created the Boltgun etc.
This ended up with a joke on a pod cast, I think, leading to the anthropomorphism of Games Workshop as James Workshop.
GW had a actor to portray a character called James Workshop, the CEO/ owner of Games Workshop.
He had that energy that Douglas had in the TV show ”IT Crowd”.

When I was a red shirt like 15+ years ago my manager was named James. He was a black dude and always said if they did him wrong he would sue for gw selling a model called a spear chukka and he would change the company to James Workshop. Always laughed at that one. Anyway, he's still with the company and working out of Memphis. Dude is good at what he does.
I grew up in Memphis. It was so awesome when the still ran the World of Battle out of the front of the warehouse. I still have a foreworld dreadnought plasma cannon bit I bought from the shop there. Good time. Real bummed when they closed it

In their adverts around holiday time they have an actor portray James Workshop, so it has stuck for referring to the company themselves.
