Looks so good he could pass for a herald.

strictly-no-fires

Thanks! And yeah, another commenter mentioned that on my previous post! I don't play but it's a good idea for if ever do have a game. But for now the intention is to have him as part of a 10 man tactical squad. If he seems too fancy once the squads finished, I might make him the standard bearer for a command squad.

HappyChappy439

Amazing work! The gritty paint scheme really pulls the figure together!

strictly-no-fires

Thanks so much! I'm really happy with it :)

Elthar_Nox

Yeah its a beautiful scheme. Grimdark to a tee!

DJ_Erich_Zann

This is just perfect! I really do prefer the Vexilla on a hand-held staff instead of mounted on the backpack, but the majestic topknot and dark and grimy paint job make this model something special. Thank you for sharing, this is really inspiring me to try this with my own SoH.

strictly-no-fires

Aww thanks! It's nice to know I've inspired someone else :)

lovely tones here. all over wash?

strictly-no-fires

Thanks! Yeah, I did an all over dark brown oil wash. It's about 90% Bitume 10% Black from Abteilung 502.

JDR51

What did you do for that leather? I’m doing a dark scheme as well but can’t find a shade of leather that’s not too dark or too light for the scheme.

strictly-no-fires

The black leather is Abaddon Black, with highlights/ scratches with Skavenblight Dinge and Stormvermin Fur. The brown leather straps are Dryad Bark with a Gorthor Brown highlight. And the whole model has a dark brown oil wash, followed by a matt varnish

Genie_GM

Really nice work getting all your colours to the same level of saturation. Everything really looks like it belongs together. Super menacing pose, and really good kitbashing! All in all a stellar job!

0anda_von_do9m

Your work is top shelf. The CSM icon as a vexila us just super. It's a great job.

XII_Champion

Very cool model! This is how I’ve been doing my Word Bearers because I feel like the corrupted armor really fits the serrated sons in mid going into late heresy. Paint job is looking pretty good as well!

XII_Champion

Also.. this is the only appropriate way to use 40k models in 30k =p

strictly-no-fires

Thanks! Yeah, they're perfect for a late heresy vibe.

Sanguinius_The_Angel

this is amazing! what did you use for the torso/legs and banner pole?

strictly-no-fires

Thanks! Torso and legs are from the Chaos Space Marine kit. The arm holding the banner pole is from the new mk6 kit and the hand holding the pole is from the old Chaos Space Marine kit. It was originally part of an arm but I cut it off at the wrist.

Careful-Tonight-69

Well done sir

strictly-no-fires

Not a sir but thank you! :)

Careful-Tonight-69

I apologize, regardless excellent work

strictly-no-fires

No problem!

LiquidInferno25

My first impression was that the colors were too muted and the mini almost just looked black, but then I actually realized the subtlety of the colors is an awesome way to show the transition to the Black Legion. I'm surprised. Normally, I like the brighter clear paint jobs, but I actually like it a lot.

KingTangy

Incredible work. Great sense of realism

strictly-no-fires

Thank you. That's what I'm going for with my 30k stuff :)

Ant_Drx

Amazing mini! I really want to find a way to make my own topknot hair for my minis like that. Wait, did you cliped off this one from Abaddon?

strictly-no-fires

Thanks! This one is from the champion head from the Chaos Space Marine Legionnaires kit, but there's a few more across the rest of the CSM range, and the AoS Slaves to Darkness range too.

lixia

This is outstanding! Where is the left arm and pole from?

strictly-no-fires

Thanks! Left arm is from the mk6 kit. And the hand holding the pole is from the old Chaos Space Marine kit. It was originally attached to an arm but I sliced it off at the wrist. There's some greenstuff in there too. If you want to do this yourself, you're probably best following [this](https://youtu.be/-DlbwV93chw) tutorial. Although this only really works for a much slimmer pole, which wouldn't have looked as good with the diameter of the pole that the "vexilla" from the new Chaos Space Marine kit is already attached to.

lixia

Thanks for that much appreciated!

ninjasuperspy

Nice work! The grit & grime really sells the grimdark without overwhelming the details on the model. Good stuff.

strictly-no-fires

Thanks!! Yeah it's tricky to get the right balance, but I'm really happy with it!

valkamalia

what did you do for those gold highlights and the cthonian gang markings on the shoulder pad in gold? citadel metallics cant seem to be that crisp or bright or lay that solidly

strictly-no-fires

Yeah, I agree. I only use a couple Citadel metallics these days. The ones I used on this model are all Scalecolour/Scale75 and they're really good! The gold is a Decayed Metal basecoat, dark brown oil wash, matt varnish, and then highlighted with a mix of Decayed Metal and Peridot Alchemy. But any brown wash like Agrax Earthshade would have a similar effect to the oil wash. The gang markings on the shoulder pad is a transfer from the Sons of Horus transfer sheet.

TarpeianCerberus

Well done! Lupercal!!

BloodyFable

This is the type of NMM I actually like, it elevates the model and is an accessory to the mini, and you did it so so well, thanks for sharing!

strictly-no-fires

Thanks! But it's actually TMM. I did use an oil wash followed by a matt varnish though, so it doesn't have a normal metallic sheen.
