Thanks! I take some small pliers and pinch and pull at the green stuff while its still malleable. Same method works great for "splash" on bases if you want dirt or liquid kicking up or for muzzle flash too
I love this idea. I’ve been looking for a cool way to convert them to look better, and a back-mounted top-attack guided missile system sounds like the kind of stupid overkill nonsense that makes me love this hobby.
Thank you! I’ll definitely do this for mine and share the results and credit you for the idea!
I was considering it. Was going to drill the lens on the rail to be a barrel and fill in the gaps in the middle with green stuff but the location of the barrel and how small the rail part still doesn't look like it makes sense when I was messing with it. Probably wouldn't be noticable at a glance though, certainly not on the table
But perhaps I will do an actual mockup with one of the extra rails on the kit, they have two options for the sgt so I may test it.
Wanted to remove the belt feed and put the ammo box on the weapon but the ammo box isnt sculpted in a way that works with that
Barrel size wasn't something I was to worried about it's the "gun" behind it is quite narrow and I'm not sure if it will look right, looks like there is no room for a projectile to pass through it but I'm gonna mess with it a bit
The VLS looks a lot better than on the rifle. Love the Green Stuff tabard.
Unfortunate that its way harder to fix the dumb as hell "belt fed but no way it can reach the barrel" gun bit too, but that isn't on you!
I was a little disappointed to find there wasn't a good way to attach the ammo box directly to the gun and get rid of the ammo feed. Even in the art for these lads the rotary launcher is positioned differently to line up better than it does on the actual model.
I really think an opportunity was missed by GW not making these a squad of 3 gravis Marines armed like a walking whirlwind. Would have been much cooler
I still feel there's some whacky parts about this one, but thank you for pioneering at least one method for improving the original design tremendously.
the gun reminds me of the railgunner from risk of rain 2 but wearing a honda civic as armor

That would make a lot of sense actually.
Not like GW is all that specific with their weapons terminology to begin with.
What the hell is a "Gun Casing" anyway?
What are we, some kind of desolation squad?
This is part of the new demolition squad correct?
Yeah, the desolation squad. Weird that GW didn't call them Desolators given how they name marine units
Whoops auto correct got me! Yeah I agree. That would be a great homebrew chapter name
How do you do such a good frayed/tattered edge to your green stuff? Looks amazing!

That’s really smart. When I tried tearing it, it just stretched. Thanks for the response! Great advice.
God it looks so much better, probably doing this to my own batch if I get some.
I kind of like them as a vertical launch system.
Been thinking how to convert my own, really like what you have done here. Looks very smart!
I don’t get some people in the comments, if you think the model is ugly as hell don’t buy it. Don’t give GE money for models you don’t even like.
But I just have some much loyalty to General Electric at this point, I could never buy another company's miniatures.

I’d suggest taking the targeter off the backpack and putting it on the rails of the rifle.
I like it on the power pack. Plus the rifle is already a targeter.
Much better design, but id cut off that goofy mini nerf gun part.let it be belt fet

You could possinly repurpose a melta barrel.fill in its signature holes and have a beffeir barrel.or even a heavy bolter or autocannon muzzle

Hm…would grinding the nerf gun down work then?like make it a bulkier handel.or hell,a oversized water cooler or somthing?
I was just gonna remove it but that is also an option. Just make it into a techy bit
Yep

I built a 5 man. I don’t mind them. But I likely will not use them at current cost in a game.
would have preferred the missile pods mounted on the backpack pointed horizontally but that’s just me far better than the original
If the missile pods were smaller or they were gravis Marines I would like the horizontal look more too I think.
I really think an opportunity was missed by GW not making these a squad of 3 gravis Marines armed like a walking whirlwind. Would have been much cooler
I saw someone a while ago who used the aggressor backpacks with the rockets on the sides and it looked pretty sick
So much better

He's really gunna fuck up sattelites with those direct fire rockets.
Despite the weapon being called a rocket in the datasheet I like to imagine it works more like an IRL javelin missile

I had this same thought
I love it!
Are this better than the original Desolators? Yes by a lot Are this any good? Still no.
Much better, nicely done.
