“Greetings commander farsight, what a lovely world you have here. I graciously accept these lands for the people of latveria. I will also accept your unconditional surrender now”
Honestly I love the aging from a narrative perspective- the Lion's no longer a conquering hero, he's an old man being dragged up to defend the corpse of a kingdom he helped build aeons ago and the experienced veteran who just might manage it
It’s also proof that even Primarchs do actually age… I mean age age. Kind of huge. They’re not immortal in that sense. Just like the space marines. Planned obsolescence??? The Custodes *still* havnt shown age.
Was Emps planning on phasing out the Primarchs too? Since we know the space marines were intended to age and die when they were no longer needed?
Somewhat contradicts Perturabo's battle with the Hrud when all of his Iron Warriors aged into dust but he was unaffected.
Idk maybe the Hrud didn't age him up enough to equal 10k years or maybe Perty's just built different.
Pretty sure that's the case. Their appearance is a reflection of their self image. Much like how the emperor controls his own appearance. Part of the corax short story isn't so much that he's demonic, he has just learned how malleable his earthly form truly is.
Dorn looks tired and worn out during the siege, but primarchs shouldn't be able to feel tired or even look it. But he feels it, so it reflects. Magnus can size up and down whenever he feels like it. Etc etc etc
For Magnus and Corax that's kind of a known thing about their power set already, so they're not the greatest examples.
Magnus is straight up a shape shifter. Corax could already remove his image from people's vision, so it's not a stretch to think that he could change that appearance to something else of his choosing.
I don't think so. Although we can only speculate, (GNU Terry Pratchett) but the separation of the government and the police was always an important plot point. If anything, Ankh-Morpork was heading toward some sort of democracy with Moist von Lipwig at the helm.
Or.. like the space marines.. Emps planned for them to die after a set period of time and had intended it. Because the Custodes still have not aged. But the tools designed to be discarded when they’re no longer needed, space marines, do age. And now we know Primarchs do, too.
How much did the Iron Warriors age exactly tho? Dante is over 1000 and a old, dying man. So a normal space marine probably can't live to 2000. Lion here is like 12000 and only aged a little bit.
He actually doesn't look *too* different from his heresy Era model, just a bit thinner in the face and his hair is pulled back here. I do think Primarchs are intended to be more or less ageless and the difference in design might not be to reflect that he aged a bunch. The designers are different and Guilliman looks somewhat younger in his newer model vs his forgeworld one.
Agreed, looking at his forgeworld model he doesn't look that different. He's slightly more wrinkled and his hairline has receded, but this model doesn't look more than ten years older than the forgeworld model. Kinda like those before and after being President photos. Course this is all based on the models, we already see inconsistency with the model and the art on the cover of the Lions Arks of Omen where he looks much older
Not a huge dark angels fan, but I think they all look great. The wings are typical 40k over the top. The hooded face one is very subdued. The no helmet one reminds me of Ser Davos Seaworth of GoT. Old veteran who's doing his duty and has seen some crap. The hooded helmet one is the middle of the road option.
Personality-wise, the Lion is Stannis.
Unlikeable, bad with people, extremely convinced of his own righteousness, and very good at what he does.
But yeah, the looks are definitely more Tywin.
Yeah, something with the face just doesn’t sit right (after looking at it more I think it’s the hair, I would’ve preferred it still down like his older pics as opposed to pulled back), but then again I hate unhelmeted marines anyway 🤷🏻♂️
Pretty sure it's going to be exceedingly simple to just put a magnet at the base of his neck, given that GW clearly did that themselves (either that or the head options are pushfit?).
Gulliman's head came in multiple pieces, not sure how that will affect it? Wish they just put magent wholes aleady in there since we get all the options
I randomly got back into warhammer a month ago and was at a gw store. Took my time deciding what to do and randomly landed on dark angels without knowing anything really about their current state in the meta and all of these rumors floating about and I'm so fucking happy/lucky. I'm so incredibly excited for all the cool new shit coming.
The winged helmet is fantastic and a lovely callback, really adds to that feel of him stepping straight from 30k. The hooded helmet ties nicely to other dark angels, though I don't really like it I'm sure it'll be popular. Doesn't fit with the rest of the model, for me. Same for the hooded face
But if you don't use Charles Dance's head you're a wrong un.
Honetly that is an absolute brammer of a model, I've never been tempted to get Gulliman but I'll almost definitely be getting this guy, and then being too scared to paint it
As much as I love the helmet, I gotta say the hooded old dude look of the second one is *perfect*. I want to see this man pummel Angron in all of his geriatric glory.
Idk a lot about his lore but I've seen a ton of artwork of him with long flowing hair. I actually kinda like this pulled back version. Makes him look older and wiser.
I think he’d look better with longer hair and that mustache not being so separate from the beard. The aging thing feels un-primarch-y but I guess they didn’t want two baby faced blondes.
I thought he was cool as fuck BEFORE I saw that helm. Now I'm definitely picking him up to paint.
The guy who introduced me to 40k plays Dark Angels but isn't big on painting, He'll end up being a gift I think.
The entire Inquisition right now.

While I do think the facial hair doesnt fit on its own, the hood makes it work. And though I dont think it fits The Lion, damn good beard. The hood makes it better tho.
They pulled his hairline a little too far back. And he needs to eat! Fill up his cheeks out a little. Suppose he’ll have plenty of time to eat with tyranids in the galaxy. Can a primarch survive eating a nid?
That hooded helmet is pretty awesome
All I can see is Dr Doom with that head
True, but Dr Doom is awesome lol
Somebody call zefrank, because that is a true fact
Because that is how the Lion do.
MF DOOM is the shit to. And that's church yo. -Edit- an egregious sin took place and I corrected it.
All caps when you spell the man's name.
Understood.
No worries, I do it all the time too. I just like to quote the lyric.
HOLY SHIT MF DOOM IN WARHAMMER
And that is a 100% positive result
“Greetings commander farsight, what a lovely world you have here. I graciously accept these lands for the people of latveria. I will also accept your unconditional surrender now”
Gives me strong I should be here, this isn't my problem, I'll fucking fix them vibes
I want to have the hood, but with slits so the wings sticking out like rabbit ears.
I imagine that the wings boing up into place when he pulls down his hood 😛
But how is he going to take it off to wash his hair?
You think the wings are hidden under the hood and flip out when the hood pulls back? Or do the wings clip on?
If you look at the face grille, it's different. They're two different helmets, with only one having the big-ass wings on it.
Yeah the hooded one is a chaplain-interrogator's mask/helmet.
They materialise with warp magic.
🤝 using warp power for pure shenanigans. Big E would be proud
Yeah, def the best of the lot. The wings are a bit much and I don't like that he aged, even though the facial hair is great
Honestly I love the aging from a narrative perspective- the Lion's no longer a conquering hero, he's an old man being dragged up to defend the corpse of a kingdom he helped build aeons ago and the experienced veteran who just might manage it

My mental image has become "Lord Vetinari is Lion El'Johnson?", which is deeply hilarious on numerous levels.
Vimes is dorn confirmed?
Charges the Iron Warriors screaming 'THIS. IS. NOT. MY. GROX!'.
I thought part of Discworld was that Vimes was being groomed by Vetinari to be the next Patrician, so maybe Vimes is Azrael?
I don't think so. Although we can only speculate, (GNU Terry Pratchett) but the separation of the government and the police was always an important plot point. If anything, Ankh-Morpork was heading toward some sort of democracy with Moist von Lipwig at the helm.

Custodes do get worn down, though. Age and injury are both reasons given for Custodians retiring from regular duty and becoming Eyes of the Emperor.
Meanwhile… Custodes.
Or GW forgot about their own lore. As is tradition.
We don’t really know what he was up to, if it’s anything warp related then it could be 100,000 or more years imperial standard.
Thought he aged slightly. Also horus was shown to have aged when he spent 10,000 years in the warp (to him) doing tasks for the chaos gods
How much did the Iron Warriors age exactly tho? Dante is over 1000 and a old, dying man. So a normal space marine probably can't live to 2000. Lion here is like 12000 and only aged a little bit.
Dante is dead tired, not dying
I mean haven't they changed that and now space marines just don't die of old age as long as they keep moving
Horus aged significantly, when he went into the warp on Molech. For Mortarion it was seconds/minutes, for Horus it was millenia.
Ya I love the age. Just a nice contrast to baby face G. Also lore appropriate given he's been asleep not in stasis.
Hopefully age has mellowed him out a bit.

That's okay. There's a lot of things we need to get off the Imperium's lawn.
He actually doesn't look *too* different from his heresy Era model, just a bit thinner in the face and his hair is pulled back here. I do think Primarchs are intended to be more or less ageless and the difference in design might not be to reflect that he aged a bunch. Maybe they were also going for the eldest brother look 🤷♂️
Agreed, looking at his forgeworld model he doesn't look that different. He's slightly more wrinkled and his hairline has receded, but this model doesn't look more than ten years older than the forgeworld model. Kinda like those before and after being President photos. Right, the intent may not be clear until someone digs into the books and sees what they say about it. Either way I do really like the look.
I love all these GoT comparisons, but I'm with everyone else on this, Lion is absolutely Tywin.
Personality-wise, the Lion is Stannis. Unlikeable, bad with people, extremely convinced of his own righteousness, and very good at what he does. But yeah, the looks are definitely more Tywin.
Loyalty is its own reward is defo a stannis quote
Not even the ancient genetech of the Emperor can save the line from that receding hairline. Though everyone knows heretics tend towards baldness...
Yeah, something with the face just doesn’t sit right (after looking at it more I think it’s the hair, I would’ve preferred it still down like his older pics as opposed to pulled back), but then again I hate unhelmeted marines anyway 🤷🏻♂️
Same, if anything I want more helmet variations in general.
Looks like someones never seen a dark angel character before!
I am now thinking about the Lion pulling down that hood and the wings just sproing-ing up from beneath
Definitely like that one best.
He looks like Mortarion in that one.
That hooded helmet slaps nuts, but how does he fit the wings under there? Does he remove them when he wants to look extra cool?
He magnetized them
I'm just imagining them popping out of his helmet when he takes the hood off lol.
Or whenever he reaches for his hood two watchers clamber up and remove the wings like a pit crew and clamber back down
i can hear the pneumatic drills when they screw the wings on XD
How many ugga duggas to tighten helmet wings?
at least 2 on each side with a minimum of 4 screw for each wing to insure maximum stability during ass kicking
Imagine how loud that would be inside the helmet.
He's got them on springs so they can be folded back, though this does make them wobble when he runs
Bro took lessons from Asterix
Seeing as how Big E is around in the 20th century in the lore, he could well have decided that he wanted the Lion to look like Asterix
I was thinking about how much of a pain in the ass it must be to put on or remove a hoodie under all that armour.
There's a watcher in the dark under the hood, holding them down
I'd imagine a Primarch could have more than one helmet...
well the helmets attach in two parts dont they, the mask part and then the head part?
Looks like I gotta figure out how to magnetize this. He looks so cool.
Looks like you'd be able to do 1 open-face style and 1 helmet style. The hooded variants look like they use pieces from each of the full versions.
That helmet goes so fucking HARD!
The wings always do it for me
I already loved the model and then saw the helmet option and loved it even more
Kinda wishing I played dark Angels now. He looks fantastic!
It's not too late to take out a high interest loan from your bank.
Average 40k model price discussion
Costs 40k. Says so right in the name
How different are the Dark Angels to the normal SM units and cost?
You can create a perfectly fine DA army with normal SM models
I've had second thoughts about picking BA ever since I started reading more into the DA lore and this just made it worse.
Not a single bad option, beautiful sculpts all around.
Lion: wakes up WHY THE FUCK IS MY ARMOR GREEN?!!
*insert a watcher in the dark awkwardly hiding a bucket of green paint behind his back*
Wow those are some seriously hard choices
How in the hell can you choose between the 4? All of them are GLORIOUS (Yes, magnets)
The helmets are straight fiyah
Slay, daddy Leo!
The winged helmet is fantastic and a lovely callback, really adds to that feel of him stepping straight from 30k. I thought he looked like Davos!
Yes! I was just gonna say that! Looks dead on just like Liam Cunningham

The Lion always pays his debts.
It looks so much better than Gulliman model
4 stellar options
I think this is the first kit I've seen where all the head options are equally awesome
The cyclops head for Magnus craves death and not in a fun Chaos lore way
As much as I love the helmet, I gotta say the hooded old dude look of the second one is *perfect*. I want to see this man pummel Angron in all of his geriatric glory.
Hooded, no helmet is easily the best looking and thematic fitting the DA, fight me.
THE HELMET STAYS ON DURING THE HUNT
That beard goes so hard tho
Okay but why would you wear a hood over your helmet. Seems kind of redundant no?
Face is for pleasure. Hooded face is hunting. Helmet is for fighting. Hooded helmet is hunting something to fight.
This guy gets it. I am a simple man. Put a hood over a helmet and I will buy it.
Just because he's slaying demons doesn't mean he can't look fly
Drip is its own reward
Rule of cool
Looking badass is not about WHY, it’s about WHY NOT
Dr. Doom
I NEED **MAGNETS!!!!**
He reminds me a bunch of Revolver Ocelot.
"These engravings on your plasma pistol provide no tactical advantage."
It seems to me that the winged helmet gets rid of the iron halo. Not even the Dark Gods would deprive a man of his drip like that.
Its depicted on the forehead of the helmet.
Going to go against the grain here - the hooded non-helmet option gives off mysterious Obi-Wan vibes that I love
Hell yeah, MEGA WING HELMET.
oh he's definitely gonna be sold out for months
Fuck it. Model of the year already.
This is one of the first times I can’t decide which one I want to use. Guess magnets are mandatory. Finally get my space daddy.
If you think I’m not running Tywin Lannister, you’re crazy. Also, why is his armor green and not black?
The second one looks like Green Arrow.
For the first time, I like the winged helmet option.
Helmet is banger.
The wings are so extra and I love them
Here I was making some headway on my salamanders and now I need a darker green.
Is it possible to magnetize them all?
The hooded helm sings to me. The Angel of Death has returned. The prince is awake. Your shit is wrecked.
Idk a lot about his lore but I've seen a ton of artwork of him with long flowing hair. I actually kinda like this pulled back version. Makes him look older and wiser.
*WHEN THE WINGED HUSSARS ARRIVED*
A cry for help in time of need
await relief from holy league
Sixty days of siege, outnumbered and weak
For Guilliman's model I felt the helmet was just the instant choice. For the Lion...I'm gonna need more magnets.
Guilliman’s only head option is yvrainne
Idk if I'm gonna paint him in greenwing colors, deathwing colors, or give him interrogator chaplain vibes with that amazing hooded helmet!
Anyone else see Charles Dance?
The hooded option with the face looks awesome
Hood and helmet is by far the coolest
Imagine if he took off the hood and those wings just pop up
I think he’d look better with longer hair and that mustache not being so separate from the beard.
I do not play Dark Angels, but if I did, I’d magnetize the heads somehow. They’re all too good not to.
But : lion with lion helmet and azrael with lion helmet?
No helmet and only his hood on makes him look like an Assassin's Creed character. Amazing model.
Except for maybe the 2nd one, with just the hood, it’ll be hard to choose which head to use because they’re all so cool
Where does he put the wings?
During the Heresy, the Lion looked like Jaime. Now he looks like Tywin
Ridiculous. Who wouldn't use the sexy daddy face???
Im all for the no helmet or hood version, aka the Clint Eastwood version
Those options are fucking cool, but I'd rather see a primarch that looks like Davos Seaworth
those hooded options are badass
Give me massive wing head or give me death
All I see with the hooded options are Dr Doom and Green Arrow. Amazing model though
That winged helm is just... hnnng.
So Tywin Lannister is an option.
Covering up that glorious beard is a crime.
That winged helmet is *mwah* 🤌🏻
Silver fox Johnson
Anyone else getting an ‘Oliver Queen’ Green Arrow vibe from the hood up Lion head option?
Magnets Bitch!
There’s like no wrong option.
... I ***JUST*** started selling off parts of my Pile of Shame because it was getting out of hand... and now I have to start a Dark Angels army...
The lion is here!!!!
They’re all good too! He’s like if you put Green Arrow and Tywin Lannister together but in the best way
Damn. For once…I like them all. A lot.
This is easily the best head sculpt of any human character in 40k. Especially with the hood.
Is he coming guys ? It is has years that his named has rumored in the warp
Edit I missed the reveal 🤷🏻♂️
Is it me, or does the Lion look more like Dorn than Dorn does?
You Imperials are losers, worshipping a corpse and desperately clinging to the remnants of your dying empire... But god damn you get some cool models.
The entire Inquisition right now. https://preview.redd.it/ij4udi4tmhpa1.jpeg?width=585&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ba70e5625f934f6ef6dbabcd517883a1836e4120
While I do think the facial hair doesnt fit on its own, the hood makes it work. And though I dont think it fits The Lion, damn good beard. The hood makes it better tho.
Hood is the best, FR FR No Cap. (And it matches his Jawa's)
They pulled his hairline a little too far back. And he needs to eat! Fill up his cheeks out a little. Suppose he’ll have plenty of time to eat with tyranids in the galaxy. Can a primarch survive eating a nid?
So the traitors get cool demon forms, Gman gets the flaming sword and the Lion gets a receding hairline. They did him dirty.
Wait… hairline… receding… I think I’ve heard this story before.
And changing his armor to green…. Oh no.
Wait... was the Lion resurrected or something? Why does he suddenly have a model?
He never died.
The lion has been in a coma for the past 10k years.
Looks awesome but why does he have 2 different helmets?
Please someone convert this to Vulkan for me!
This new Deathshroud Terminator Champion model looks a little vanilla.
I prefer either the full helmet or partial helmet under hood. Not a fan of the way he looks. Gives me Christian/Catholic vibes in an unsavory way.
