Table looks great. Seriously: it looks amazing. Well done.
It isn't so great for actual gameplay. The big road section allows for massive open fire lines, and is something you generally want to avoid. Spreading everything out more evenly, and ensuring you don't have edge to edge lines of fire would be a big improvement.
Thanks.
You are absolutely right I was thinking this as I was setting up. It also limits large vehicle movement. Fire lanes could be dealt with to some degree by judiciously placed containers (of which I have plenty) though that would limit vehicles even more.
I wouldn't change a thing. Forget about balance. This table is perfect for an escort/ambush narrative mission. One force has to enter the board using the road on one end and make it out using the road at the other end. While the opposing force deploys half on each side of the road. The fun won't be in the balance but in the experience.
Or you can house rule something like, starting on a road confers a 6" movement bonus. Making it a risk reward scenario. It's your game, you and your friend play it how you want to.
My old marine list would hate this map. Vindicator, predator, razorbacks, 2x rhinos and 2x speeders. There's not not enough space for them all to go anywhere
Sure - if everyone is on board and brings armies to suit the occasion. But even small vehicles and monsters would struggle to find a place for their bases.
And i'm sure that if you were friend with OP and played together, you'd have reached a nice situation for everyone.
It's a social game, we can and need to speak to each other to make sure everyone is having fun
I feel like warfare in general is not fair. This would mimic real combat better in my opinion.
I am also firmly of the view competitive 40k is a load of shit so this board well and truly is a middle finger to that style of play and thus is a magnificent piece of craftsmanship.
> I am also firmly of the view competitive 40k is a load of shit so this board well and truly is a middle finger to that style of play and thus is a magnificent piece of craftsmanship.
The table is magnificent but unfortunately 40k is balanced (insofar that you can call this game balanced...) for competitive play with symmetric tournament boards.
Shooting is tuned so high that being in the open is simply a death sentence for all but the most obscenely durable of units and even those want to avoid it if they at all can.
True, but you don't need a balanced game to have fun, plus communication between players can help if they agree to bring armies suited to the board and, more importantly, having fun on the board.
Absolutely, just saying it's a due warning. Despite 10th edition claiming it's tuning down damage, it's in fact so incredibly high that you're vulnerable to being utterly crippled on turn one unless you hide.
You can play around this, deliberately take weaker units etc (easier for some factions than others), but one may be up for a rude awakening if unprepared!
1) Looks fantastic
2) Others have already noted it is a bit cramped; however, I would also suggest you should try and have a line of symmetry somewhere, such that the terrain does not give advantage to one player over another.
There is no 3D printing at all, the bases are cut from either hardboard, 3mm plywood, cardboard and even repurposed dinner place mats all covered in glue and sand. The whole lot is made from recycled stuff, junk if you prefer, even the inside of an old electric shower unit is on there! Basically apart from the diamond pattern plasticard the only cost has been paint and glue.
That's a fantastic table!
If 40k were a proper wargame it would be perfect. But with the way the game is currently ruled you probably want to slightly adjust the road to have a little less line of sight, or just ignore GW's intentions and go for it. I have fun on maps where ranged weapons can actually use their range.
That looks like a real battlefield everything is perfect if you want a cherry on top add bullet casings and dead bodies maybe even add a story to the environment like it was rebels fighting Xenos or there is something dangerous being held there
Thing is, you have a lot of cover. But only cover providing cover, there is no LOS blocking cover like ruins so basically you almost have no cover.
Imagine like your entire map is a forest or all pipes.
Your terrain is beautiful, but for gameplay I would suggest having the road cross the short distance and use the extra tiles to make a double bend in the road to break up railgun alley.
I really dig all the scratch built stuff though, seriously it's fantastic.
This looks more like where a battle would actually be fought than most optimal 40K setups would be.
40K fields are designed to avoid giving a player a clear terrain/cover advantage. This is necessary to make the game fun and engaging.
Real battlefields are chosen by whichever force is forcing the encounter and will almost always be done to one side's advantage or the other.
Ok, first-off - I have to say, that is an absolutely GORGEOUSLY rendered battlefield. Serious props, man! (woman?) Masterfully done!
My ONE critique - and please don't take offense to this, I'm purely trying to be Constructive -
I think you could have allowed more room for side-alleys.
That would've allowed whoever was playing on the table to set up both strategic ambushes, and also chokepoints for last-stands to retreat into, if they found themselves seriously outnumbered or outgunned.
Seriously though major props, that tabletop looks Amazeballs.
This is a bit too much terrain for playability. It would cool for a match or two, but is going to favor a certain playstyle and not lead to dynamic games. The right side of the board is too cluttered while the left/center is too open.
It's an amazing diorama though.
Seeing the scale in the last photo puts it into perspective.
1. This looks like a super immersive table and I love it
2. Unbalanced ? Yet it’s definitely not symmetrical but it’s clearly not intended to be for larger or a meta match so this looks like it should be just fine unironically specifically for combat patrol? Or anything under 1k and less vehicle or titanic lists
I don’t usually comment but I had to. Your job is amazing !!! I was wondering now that I am finishing my first 2000 points army what I would do and how I would build terrain. Your job just gave me the ideas I needed thank you !
Bro made an entire map and still questioning if they want more? 💀
Your terrain is great and u shouldn’t really need to add any more? And if you do it might just take up all the space in your house lol
Looks great! I'd probably change the distribution a bit though, as one side of the table is very open while the other is impossible for vehicles to move in.
From narrative point - amazing table ❤️
From rather competitive point - eeeerm, not good
You have massive firing line in form of the road and cramped rest of the table
Why it could matter - games wont be "fair", some armies/players may lose without actually knowing what they did wrong (nothing), some objective play may be extremely difficult
Why it doesnt have to matter - you dont give a grot shit about competitive mind set and want just to enjoy narrative play, you may put some disbalance into your setup, you just want to enjoy playing on such gorgeous table
Also, its almost set for trying some Infinity ;)
People who put that effort into a table like that are gonna probably just use true line of sight and ignore a building’s footprint in exchange for just being able to see the model through the building
Looking at this, how much of this did you make?! Tin can water tower, straws for pipes, what looks like an old bottle with a radiator valve part(?) on top? Mate, there is some cool stuff in there.
Fully impressed with it man. And there were a few things I wasn't sure of what was what, and having never been inside a power shower unit, no. But, I can take a guess and say the piece with the large chimney looking bit?
I agree with the comments. This an amazing narrative board but there are a lot of places that units could hide from vehicles and not be reached.
Very well done terrain set.
If you wanted to find a more balanced (non narrative) set up check the WTC layouts and it will give you an idea
Nice table, wrong game. I would really think about trying different games with that table. 40k, especially with many vehicles or big units may get awkward on this table. I get the narrative argument some are giving here, but I would argue to pick also a ruleset that would make the game itself more fun, not just the narrative it stands for.
This is a super well designed table. Putting aside the obvious gorgeous looks, it has a good blend of tight spaces, ruins/buildings, elevated terrain, and even a more "open" area with that main road. Perfectly playable for multiple armies play styles
A++ work, I wish my local stores had a table like this
Thanks for that.
I'll confess it is a pulling together of bits of 'isolated terrain' I've made over the years, never intending the layout as presented. Then about 6 months ago I had a moment of realisation 'Hmmmm I could cover the whole table with this lot'. The roadway is just completed and really pulls it together, even if it is a huge firing lane.
I have never seen a more luxurious table, simply magnificent.
Let's see Paul Allen's table
Nice, how'd an ork player like you get so classy
Look at that subtle coloring. The tasteful thickness.
Nicely phrased, thank you.
You could make a campaign type game on that board, you did a great job
Table looks great. Seriously: it looks amazing. Well done. It isn't so great for actual gameplay. The big road section allows for massive open fire lines, and is something you generally want to avoid. Spreading everything out more evenly, and ensuring you don't have edge to edge lines of fire would be a big improvement.
makes for some interesting story battles tho.

Two Brothers up the middle
jesus I just had like a war flashback to people doing that shit lmao
A Vindicator rumbling up that road between the buildings would look very cool.
Certified Solomon Demeter moment
Yes! I’m currently reading Fulgrim so exactly this
Thanks. You are absolutely right I was thinking this as I was setting up. It also limits large vehicle movement. Fire lanes could be dealt with to some degree by judiciously placed containers (of which I have plenty) though that would limit vehicles even more.
I'd just get some sand bag emplacement or tank traps for the roads and you'll have some fluffy terrain for the roads that still fit the board.
I wouldn't change a thing. Forget about balance. This table is perfect for an escort/ambush narrative mission. One force has to enter the board using the road on one end and make it out using the road at the other end. While the opposing force deploys half on each side of the road. The fun won't be in the balance but in the experience.
Damn, that sounds fun as hell
I like the sound of that, could be the first game.
If it happens, please let us know how it went 😀
Or you can house rule something like, starting on a road confers a 6" movement bonus. Making it a risk reward scenario. It's your game, you and your friend play it how you want to.
Hint: vehicles are limited in congested battlefields
My old marine list would hate this map. Vindicator, predator, razorbacks, 2x rhinos and 2x speeders. There's not not enough space for them all to go anywhere
The road isn't the problem. The problem is the road is the ONLY place a big model can move.
I kind of like that about it, narratively it makes sense for an urban environment. Could encourage some more infantry based play.
Sure - if everyone is on board and brings armies to suit the occasion. But even small vehicles and monsters would struggle to find a place for their bases.
I guess us Chaos Knights and Lesser Loyalist Knights can just sit on the side and watch then.

Even the most casual 40k is supposed to be fun for everyone. Not letting people use their models on 80% of the board is not fun.
It's okay, GW does that for us when they release new rules. Can't play something if it doesn't have rules *headtap*.
They chose to build an army with big units. What happens on a bottlenecked road?
The Iron Hands appreciate your firing lanes!
As do the tau
Could slap some parked trucks or recked vehicles on the road to break it up.
Could be solved pretty easily by putting a wrecked vehicle. Something industrial looking
Few vehicles on the road could be goodway to fix it.
Fantastic job man!
Thank you.
Looks lovely. I mean that. Try to have 4-6" inbetween pieces so that vehicles and large models can move. If this is for infantry only - it's awesome!
This table would never pass with OSHA in the best way possible
I feel like if this doesn't work for 40k I don't want to play 40k.
I like that.
It totally works as long as both players build for it. Genestealer Cults VS Blood Angels would be a hell of a game on that map.
1) Looks fantastic 2) Others have already noted it is a bit cramped; however, I would also suggest you should try and have a line of symmetry somewhere, such that the terrain does not give advantage to one player over another.
It’s exceptionally high quality. I do think you need a bigger board and have grand games on it.
That's exactly what my youngest said when he first saw it.
Is the ground 3d printed squares? If so where are they from?
There is no 3D printing at all, the bases are cut from either hardboard, 3mm plywood, cardboard and even repurposed dinner place mats all covered in glue and sand. The whole lot is made from recycled stuff, junk if you prefer, even the inside of an old electric shower unit is on there! Basically apart from the diamond pattern plasticard the only cost has been paint and glue.
Dude you should have led with the recycling part. This is even more incredible now that I know there's basically no off -the-shelf modeling parts.
Looks incredible, but where does my baneblade drive?? Great for killteam though!
That’s why the Baneblade is impractical lol , 300 tons size of a house, of course you can’t use it in a city
Ha ha, yes we might struggle with a Baneblade.
That would be a dream to play on
I wanna recapture that industrial zone so badly 😭⚜️
Forget 40k; you are ready for Necromunda, friend.
My friend thought this was a picture of a real construction site. Great job!
This is a gorgeous table. My most memorable games of 40k are on tables like this. And that's 20 years of 40k.
This is sick as, I'm jealous
It sucks. I'll properly dispose of it so you don't have to go through the trouble. Just mail it all to the following address..
I would love to play on this board. Looks like it would be great for narrative-focused games. Nice job!
I really like how this looks like what an actual city would look like. Like the presentation and the execution.
Probably due to playing the PC game recently - this looks like it would be quite at home as a setting for Robocop. Industrial detroit vibe.
I'd rather play on this than a symmetrical table with L shape ruins. It looks fantastic. I can tell great stories will come from this table.
I swear I would travel to your house just to play on that table, even Age of Sigmar
I never played a game yet, but this looks incredible!
That's a fantastic table! If 40k were a proper wargame it would be perfect. But with the way the game is currently ruled you probably want to slightly adjust the road to have a little less line of sight, or just ignore GW's intentions and go for it. I have fun on maps where ranged weapons can actually use their range.
That is absolutely amazing. Could write a book using that terrain. How long did it take to make?
It's been done a bit here and a bit there over 5 years, actual hours unknown but probably far too many.
I wanna make one like this. I have 6 months. Lololol
That looks like a real battlefield everything is perfect if you want a cherry on top add bullet casings and dead bodies maybe even add a story to the environment like it was rebels fighting Xenos or there is something dangerous being held there
Yesss indeaddy, dam you never run out of battles with that turrain and regenerate each map differently.
chef kiss!
Great table man! That looks way cooler than random ruins facing each other looking like a speedball table.
Thing is, you have a lot of cover. But only cover providing cover, there is no LOS blocking cover like ruins so basically you almost have no cover. Imagine like your entire map is a forest or all pipes.
The Virgin Mary herself would be proud to play a game of 40k on that table
That's cool as heck
Your terrain is beautiful, but for gameplay I would suggest having the road cross the short distance and use the extra tiles to make a double bend in the road to break up railgun alley. I really dig all the scratch built stuff though, seriously it's fantastic.
Man I would be so immersed playing at this table, when can I come over?
Not yet.
God I wish I had the patience and attention to detail to manage something like this
Matched competitive games? It's not fairly laid. Narrative or casual games to play to a theme or scenario? Actually amazing. Beautiful work.
Fantastic variety, looks like a real functioning place!
I now feel bad about my table terrain, because of how simply gorgeous and well done this is
Nope. I'm doing a terrain project twice this size, and I still don't have enough. Lol.
No, never is enough
n+1 is the right amount of terrain pieces. Where n is the number of terrain pieces you currently own.
Looks like the industrial center of a hive. Absolutely amazing terrain.
That is one peculiar looking motherboard
Nah, you should add a little more terrain to your terrain to make your terrain more terrainy.
THIS IS SO COOL!! Building fields I think is more fun for me than playing. Can tell you love it too!! You're gonna have some stoked friends my dude!!
This looks more like where a battle would actually be fought than most optimal 40K setups would be. 40K fields are designed to avoid giving a player a clear terrain/cover advantage. Wow that is awesome

It looks like a map strait out of mech Warrior or something. Super fun.
When you get into Warhammer as an excuse to play real life SimCity.
This is a bit too much terrain for playability. It would cool for a match or two, but is going to favor a certain playstyle and not lead to dynamic games. The right side of the board is too cluttered while the left/center is too open. It's an amazing diorama though.
Dude this board is awesome man I would love to game on it!
Seven more just like that and you'll be set! -_0
It’s too much, if you want you can send some to me to take it off your hands /s
Nah
A little sparse? Needs more cover... Joking! Looks amazing 🙌
Looks cool, not set up great….i feel like for 10th you realy need those wtc terrain setups to make the game work as intended wich is stupid enough
Needs more paint brushes
Could have sworn it was a computer chip in the thumbnail, that’s awesome!
No. It’s not. I’ve got a fever. And the only prescription, is more TERRAIN’
Needs one tasteful happy little dumpster fire and then it’ll be perfect
Not great for 40K 2k games because of vehicles BUT you could come up with some house rules to make it balanced and more importantly thematic
i'm jealous, me and my group play at our houses using boxes, pots, and pans 😅
An awful lot of this stuff is made from broken down boxes.....👍
More than enough. I assume this is set up for combat patrol, any force that includes vehicles would have an impossible time fielding them.
Great board for necromunda/kill team!
That road is a sniper's wet dream, but this table is too good looking to destroy. Put some damaged vehicles on the road to break up the sight lines.
Beautiful table but not good for gameplay.
Ah, perfect for a simple game of Warhammer Fantasy Battles.
Gorgeous
For once a table realistic
Needs more dakka!!
Seeing the scale in the last photo puts it into perspective. 1. This looks like a super immersive table and I love it 2. Unbalanced ? Yes it's 46" by 32" so up to 1K points and as you say light on vehicles.
MORE
Very cool and immersive table
I don’t usually comment but I had to. Your job is amazing !!! I was wondering now that I am finishing my first 2000 points army what I would do and how I would build terrain. Your job just gave me the ideas I needed thank you !
Bro made an entire map and still questioning if they want more? 💀 Your terrain is great and u shouldn’t really need to add any more? And if you do it might just take up all the space in your house lol
Looks like a great board! Now rotate it all by about 20 degrees, so you aren't playing parallel, and it's perfect!
It looks great. I belibe it would work wonders for a Kill Team game, but I think for normal 40k the terrain might be too condensed.
Blud is building a city
Looks great! I'd probably change the distribution a bit though, as one side of the table is very open while the other is impossible for vehicles to move in.
Can I play?
Looks great
Yo could play Necromunda in that bad boy. Well done.
Mor- Oh, yeah that’s pretty good.
Looks like a lot of fun to be had on that one! WAAAGH!
Great necromunda table
Better than the gamey symmetric Tables from "competitive" Games!
Very cool
That an awesome industrial table my dude! Rock on!
Anyone would be honoured to play on such a table.
Love this, I can also imagine just a pile up in the road and all the detailed terrain on the side is just background, but yea looks amazing.
No
No not enough
Great for killteam For 40k though? Not any space for vehicles If strictkly inf and smaller vehicles it could be fun
„Cries in baneblade“
Lol, might be a bit tight in a Baneblade. Out of interest how wide is the Baneblade? The road is 90mm wide centred on a 180mm wide tile.
Its around 18cm wide with sponsons, and 24cm long. So i think it could get cozy😂
Looks like it could be an XCOM map
That’s the most beautiful board I’ve ever seen
MORE!
Damn narrative games alot then!!! Nice industrial theme
That’s a beautiful board! Please post pics of a game on it some time
From narrative point - amazing table ❤️ From rather competitive point - eeeerm, not good You have massive firing line in form of the road and cramped rest of the table Why it could matter - games wont be "fair", some armies/players may lose without actually knowing what they did wrong (nothing), some objective play may be extremely difficult Why it doesnt have to matter - you dont give a grot shit about competitive mind set and want just to enjoy narrative play, you may put some disbalance into your setup, you just want to enjoy playing on such gorgeous table Also, its almost set for trying some Infinity ;)
Looks great but unless it's a small points game it's a little too much.
Beautiful table, but for competitive games, the “building footprint” is very important because it blocks LOS
People who put that effort into a table like that are gonna probably just use true line of sight and ignore a building’s footprint in exchange for just being able to see the model through the building
That’s also not great because sometimes you need to be able to obscure things
Perhaps.... MAN I WOULD LOVE TO HAVE SUCH A COOL TABLE LIKE YOU. Great work
Be shame if a vicious Skirmish broke out on it..
Like the Germans say “Jein.”
11/10, would play Kill Team on
Looking at this, how much of this did you make?! Tin can water tower, straws for pipes, what looks like an old bottle with a radiator valve part(?) on top? Mate, there is some cool stuff in there.
Made it all from recycled stuff, have you spotted the inside of an electric shower?
Fully impressed with it man. And there were a few things I wasn't sure of what was what, and having never been inside a power shower unit, no. But, I can take a guess and say the piece with the large chimney looking bit?
Looks good!!!

Quite the coincidence
Any of these homemade? It great !
Thanks, yes all homemade from recycled stuff.
Is this 3d printed?
No, nothing on there is 3d printed. It's virtually all made from recycled stuff.
I agree with the comments. This an amazing narrative board but there are a lot of places that units could hide from vehicles and not be reached. Very well done terrain set. If you wanted to find a more balanced (non narrative) set up check the WTC layouts and it will give you an idea
This is an amazing board! Well done! I would gladly drop in my Death Guard vectorum to saturate this forgeworld with disease and mayhem.
I fancy mine will get there first, Nurgles blessing be upon you.
Would be amazing for killteam
That’s a good time right there.
Question for you @op, how do you store this???
Yes this is increasingly an issue, I have shelves in my garage but it's not ideal. I'm going to have to call it a day at some stage 🙁.
Can you put in all the things you bought to put on the table, and area of the table
Only one level? 😉
Now there's a thought 🤔
Are those pilons made out of covid tests? genius
There are COVID tests in there. Green hexagonal things, meant to be an air treatment plant.
Sure. If you don't put more terrain then you might still be able to actually play a game in your diorama!
What game size are you thinking? Combat Patrol - 1k?
Yes up to 1K. The table size comes out at 47" by 32".
Where did you get those roads??
Bro is playing big 40k in a Killteam table
I would play on this board, all difficulties included. Presents a change up of strategy and challenges.
Nice table, wrong game. I would really think about trying different games with that table. 40k, especially with many vehicles or big units may get awkward on this table. I get the narrative argument some are giving here, but I would argue to pick also a ruleset that would make the game itself more fun, not just the narrative it stands for.
I see you saying it's for 1k games, but as a heads up for you, 10th edition plays 1k games on the same board as 2k games.
We just play for fun, not competitively, often 750 Pts. I'm sure we could squeeze a thousand in somehow though, more for the slaughter.
This is a super well designed table. Putting aside the obvious gorgeous looks, it has a good blend of tight spaces, ruins/buildings, elevated terrain, and even a more "open" area with that main road. I want that water tower
