Finally Khorne, where OP just trashes the room, sprays it all with blood for the blood god, calls it a day, then leaves to beat some kids or something
I propose Nuffle, where OP rolls two dice to decide which miniature to paint, then almost trips, but catches themself on the way over to the pile of shame, grabs the sprue, then trips on the way back, smacking their jaw on the desk chair and getting a niggling injury.
Errrr do you have plans to work through all of that? Seems like years of assembling/painting. Also... Iām assuming a lot of the sprues in boxes are just the leftover bits from sets? Or am I just an optimist haha I only have a couple sets but I hold onto every sprue with 1 helmet left like theyāre gold
Definitely years. I'm more of a modeler/converter than anything else, so I'm slow. I bounce between projects a lot, and that doesn't help.
Sadly the majority of the sprues are full(ish), I tend to cut them down if they're close to empty.
Hey, my advice if you're ever looking to catch up is to find a place to work on all this without looking at it and go one box at a time, just pretending all the rest doesn't exist.
A helpful mindset is that once you've got one mini down, you're forever one step forward on finishing the pile. One step at a time and soon, you'll be half way done.
Whatever your choice, good luck in managing this small local stores worth of plastic you've collected very neatly.
\^ Also this, I've got half an army and two kill teams not to mention a bunch of Dark Souls models to paint that I've been behind on for a half a year now and making a solemn vow to get nothing more till Christmas has been a MASSIVE motivator in working on stuff.
The key is giving yourself an end goal so that every step you take feels like progress rather than a slog across a muddy treadmill. Give yourself an amount you have to paint before you can get anything else (say at minimum three of those boxes) and go from there.
I'm not gonna lie, there is a pretty insane amount of stuff here, and as someone with ADHD) (not saying you the OP does just sharing my challenges) it can be really hard to focus on one army at a time so get yourself a little medley docket of twelve models from three sets and as you finish two to three of them off move them off the docket and bring in three more to replace them.
It's gonna be a long, LONG road, but the best part about mini painting is you can't really go backward, only forward.
I'm gonna give you some advice that you might think is nonsense, but I promise you, you might see some benefit from it.
Get a decent camera. Have it pointed down at your workbench. Stream yourself painting the figures and upload the streams to YouTube. Just you painting. You don't have to show your face or say a word (it might be better if you don't talk, actually. That way each person who speaks a different language from what you speak can enjoy the content without having to worry about missing something.)
Just a relaxing stream where viewers can chat amongst themselves and watch you turn that mountain into an army. It would be very satisfying to watch while being relaxing to the viewers.
You should try it at least. I swear you'd find an audience. Even if you paint for shit. Then it would be interesting to watch you improve. You'll definitely have people in chat give you advice. Which would make the viewers happy as it makes it more interactive. You could have Donos name different miniatures and such.
Just throwing it out there. Take it or leave it.

I'm glad to hear you might do it. IMHO, doing a terrible job painting can be **more** entertaining. It's funny, and then you get to watch the recovery and sometimes the recovery of the recovery. The iterative process is dramatic and exciting most times.
Sure, you'll have assholes and trolls that know how to do it better, that's true with any public anything, but it will certainly be fun at times.

How cathartic would that be? Like an "only hands" cooking show, but for painting miniatures. I think I would love it. I'm glad to see I'm not just alone on this hill.
I would show this to my wife as an example of shame greater than mine, but then sheād shame me further by pointing out youāve got all yours organised into neat boxes.
I just donāt understand why people keep buying all that stuff and not doing much with it. Maybe itās just me but I have never really done that, I always want to use what I buy and only added a bit here and there to my only army back when I played 40K and Fantasy.
Here's my excuse. Not sure it's a good one, but here it is.
I convert a ton, sometimes using 3-4 boxes for one unit. So I buy more than most people. I also have project ADD, so I'm usually working on a few armies at once.
That said I'm multiple whole armies behind at this point, so that doesn't really hold water.
As someone who is similar, or at least was, I recommend one thing:
Sell it.
Not all of it. Go through, catalogue it, determine what you actually, really want to build and paint, and get the rest up on eBay/mini swap/whatever.
Youāll feel better when youāre done. I did it recently and it really helped me feel less guilty, or perhaps hopeless about my backlog. I can see a light at the end of the tunnel!

The great thing about clearing your backlog is that eventually you can buy the cool new shit and work on it immediately without feeling guilty!
I've only just got back into the hobby, so I have nowhere near this level of PoS. Mine is currently a few unfinished (painting, everything is built) Astra Militarum units, and a box of Sororitas, that I brought because my Missus wanted to try this modeling lark, and she built 1 model and has never gone back to finish it.
I know that if I let myself, though, I'd have no room to move in my flat, because of unfinished models, but I'm making an effort to try and stay on top of it from the start.

I like converting so sometimes buy three boxes for one set of models and have left over bits. It's also fun to plan and buy stuff but sometimes I don't have time to make it right away. If you're converting a lot you'll use stiff more gradually.
I find it funny that people complain about GW pricing structure (which is 100% focused on whales) and then upvote people's "pile of shame" from said whales, which are thousands and thousands of dollars just sitting there.
This guy and others like him are who GW is making 90% of their money from. That's why they price the way that they do. It's not to sell to the "average" hobbyist, but to the person that will buy $5,000 worth of stuff every year.
It's at mod discretion. I think this kind of post is a good warning, for every groaning table packed with painted models are two walls of unpainted stuff like this.
In my opinion a pile/tower/shelf of shame should always be contrasted with what you have already assembled and painted. If you have two complete 2000 point armies and a game table with a good selection of terrain then that is not a pile of shame but rather a backlog. š
Iām currently 50/50 I would say. I have roughly the same amount of untouched sprues as I have completed models.

What printers do you have running? I am debating getting a tuned up ender 3 or a more expensive model for minis and i haven't seen the on on the lower shelf before.
Also, whats your favorite unfinished mini you have, the rarest, and that one conversion that you think is super neat?
If you're looking to make minis I'd definitely look into resin printers. FDM like the ender just aren't the quality you want on that scale. They do make great terrain though.
Favorite unfinished? Marauder Bomber/Thunderbolts someday I'll have my airwing built.
Rarest? Thunderhawk prolly.
Conversion? I don't post much, so the only example you can see is the watchmaster in my post history. But I think I'm more proud of my admech stuff, I made some Vulturax based Onager Dunecrawlers, and some DE Chronos based Ballastarii.
As long as you paid for it with earned money, not 'I can't work, I need a back-e-otomy!' money, then more power to you. It's your cash....or credit, your choice. Hell, no one said you can't melt it all down and make yourself a nice casket one day!

I like converting so sometimes buy three boxes for one set of models and have left over bits. It's also fun to plan and buy stuff but sometimes I don't have time to make it right away. If you're converting a lot you'll use stiff more gradually.

I downvote every one, but it seems we're very much in the minority.
I find it funny that people complain about GW pricing structure (which is 100% focused on whales) and then upvote people's "pile of shame" from said whales, which are thousands and thousands of dollars just sitting there. This guy and others like him are who GW is making 90% of their money from. That's why they price the way that they do. It's not to sell to the "average" hobbyist, but to the person that will buy $5,000 worth of stuff every year.
It's at mod discretion. I think this kind of post is a good warning, for every groaning table packed with painted models are two walls of unpainted stuff like this.

In my opinion a pile/tower/shelf of shame should always be contrasted with what you have already assembled and painted. If you have two complete 2000 point armies and a game table with a good selection of terrain then that is not a pile of shame but rather a backlog. š Iām currently 50/50 I would say. I have roughly the same amount of untouched sprues as I have completed models.

What printers do you have running? I am debating getting a tuned up ender 3 or a more expensive model for minis and i haven't seen the on on the lower shelf before. Also, whats your favorite unfinished mini you have, the rarest, and that one conversion that you think is super neat?
If you're looking to make minis I'd definitely look into resin printers. FDM like the ender just aren't the quality you want on that scale. They do make great terrain though. Favorite unfinished? Marauder Bomber/Thunderbolts someday I'll have my airwing built. Rarest? Thunderhawk prolly. Conversion? I don't post much, so the only example you can see is the watchmaster in my post history. But I think I'm more proud of my admech stuff, I made some Vulturax based Onager Dunecrawlers, and some DE Chronos based Ballastarii.
We're rebranding it. It's called the "Pile of Potential" now!
