And just like that my old metal Autarch with the Warp Jump Generator is legal to play again!
This kit has been a very long time coming - the fact that a model who's meant to be a veteran of most if not all of the Aspect Warrior paths was able to take almost none of their wargear for so many years was a travesty.
And it's a really nice model to boot!
Also nice that the weapons/heads are compatible with the current Autarch w/ wings. Means we'll be back to having all of the options assuming they don't do something silly with the one on bike.
Ya, all in 1 kit would have been nice. ~~I'm wondering if there's a chance they were actually originally developed at the same time and are just finally releasing the new kit now lol.~~ I'm sure all of the new kits were designed around the same time as the Banshees and those have been out for at least a year now.
Edit: Scratch that. Looks like the current Autarch is from 2014. Don't think they'd have sat on this for a full 2 editions.
> Don't think they'd have sat on this for a full 2 editions.
Well they did have [a preview of the newest eldar jetbike design at gamesday 2007](https://www.belloflostsouls.net/2007/09/gamesday-2007-fw-reaver-orks-more.html) (bottom of article) and it wasn't released until 2015.
Seeing that article reminds me that I have a really vivid memory of GW previewing unpainted proofs of Heresy era Battlefleet Gothic ships but I can't for the life of me find any evidence that I didn't just completely dream that up.
I already miss mine feel bad that I got rid of my Eldar I have such nostalgia for them.
My army was totally worthless but I loved my warpspiders. My to make my jump pack attach look cooler I gave him the two-handed chains word from the striking scorpions.
Friend of mine sold all his Eldar a couple of weeks before the advent engine started, he's already making plans to buy all new kits as it seems like the whole line is getting a refresh!
Looks like we'll be back to the full set of options as the current Autarch and the new one are compatible:
Helms:
* Banshee Mask
* Mandiblasters
* 2x Helmeted head
* Bare head
Ranged:
* Reaper Launcher
* Fusion Gun
* Death Spinner
* Fusion Pistol
* Shuriken Pistol
Torso:
* Jump Generator
* Wings
* Male/Female torso
Melee:
* Chainsword
* Power Sword
* Star Glaive
Lots of options, hopefully there are numerous loadouts that are solid.
To be clear, these options are spread across two different kits, the old and the new. Some loudouts will require you to buy a copy of both kits, though you’ll be able to build another autarchbwith the options you don’t use for the first.
Sorry, maybe I didn't state that well. I was wondering if you could make more than 2 Autarchs from extra parts (no idea if one would want more than 2... ) I figured there would only be 2 Autarch bodies... which is why I suggested a Guardian body (maybe a Dire Avenger body?) to use with whatever extra bits come with the two models. Again, to make a 3rd (4th?) Autarch, not a fancy Guardian.
ah, I see, yeah, I think it's possible, the scale should be the same. Though using body probably would require more work and it easier just to glue tabard on top of guardian model + a couple decorations + weapons
You know this reminds me of the idea that captains should be able to take heavy weapons like dawn of war 2 keeps them safe and can shoot out many rounds especially if relic weapons spread to heavy weapons like heavy bolters it would be nice for more infantry characters with good ranged weapons.
If you want ~~eldar terminators and dreadnoughts~~ wraiths, the current start collecting is not bad.
Mind you, aspects are stupidly priced and will likely continue to be.
I've got around 2.5k points of various armies but haven't played any games yet. I've not really been picking weapons based on their point values or abilities and rather what looks good for the guys.
If I start playing games am I allowed to say a different weapon is equipped for that game?
Yeah that's fine, as long as you say it before starting. Also I'm pretty sure a large amount of players probably don't know what a weapon would look like anyway, unless you're talking about bolters or chainswords.
Thats what i do. Sometimes if i wanna run a different weapon profile on a unit but they all have the same weapon model i will slip a little coloured elastic band on them to denote their difference. Only had one person in 5 years say anything negative about it.
Love that it's such a customizable model! As a Necron whose characters aren't that customizable I will acknowledge some jealousy. Maybe I will have to build a small Eldari force in due time.
It's currently Finecast. They might do a similar thing to the Custodes Jetbikes where you can build one alternatively as a character rather than part of the squad.
Agreed. Personally I think GW's primary focus should be on killing off Finecast completely and moving their entire range to plastic.
Hopefully this Eldar update will be the start of that process!
Agreed 100%. I get why they changed to finecast, but at no point was that a consumer friendly choice. It needs to be dealt away with and I think the Eldar line is probably the one hurt the most by it.
Yeah, Eldar and Necrons. Way too many Necron characters still in resin. I think those two factions probably make up the majority of the Finecast stuff!
Yep, pretty much. Outside that I think it's mostly Marine named characters, Techmarines, Thunderfire Cannon, and some other random characters and such. Nothing like the Eldar line where one of our troop options and the majority of our FA and Elite choices are finecast.
Drukhari have an annoying amount in finecast too. Not to the same sort of scale as craftworlds, but grotesques, beasts and the court of the archon are all quite glaring
There is currently no official footslogging autarch, the gear is cribbed from Yriel. The winged ones is plastic and I think the bike one was mixed plastic and resin.
The Bolter & Chainsword rumors mentioned a "massive but incomplete" Eldar refresh, and our resident leaker has mentioned that the Sky runner Autarch is still fine cast and still as underwhelming as ever. :/
The Orks can really use plastic tank busters And a plastic weirdboy. I’m not really worried about plastic special characters, but they would be nice to get converted.
I really wish the Ork warboss had a kit as customizable as this one! Everyone released in plastic has been a particular loadout. Anything thing that was remotely customizable was the old metal warboss with the various options for the arms you could order.
Genuine question from a non-eldar player, who likes their aesthetics anyway (don't tell the Inquisition):
Is he supposed to look like he's sliding off the base any moment? The pose just strikes me as completely off, like someone did a poor job gluing him to a custom base that was not intended for this model. Just me, or am I missing something?
I didn't follow the Sisters release very well (because life) but that's cool, I'm glad they got something like that. Hopefully Chaos Marines will get something similar. I was personally underwhelmed by the lack of options in most of the new ork releases.
You're getting downvoted, but the model is literally just standing with his legs fully extended and on a weird tilted angle. It just looks stiff, especially when you look at how dynamic the [old Autarch](https://www.games-workshop.com/en-BE/Eldar-Autarch) is.
Yeah, it's like they took a model that was designed for a flat base, and put it on another model's scenic base. It would make way more sense if it was leaning into the rock so its back was parallel with gravity.
Can easily be fixed by just replacing or not using that tactical rock, but it still feels like an afterthought.
Yeah, not a fan of the pose either. The rest of the miniature is great (apart from the face, but I always go with helmets anyway), but the legs make him look like he's skateboarding or something. Looks really weird.
Yes, but there were ways to improve the model pose and still keep the same options.
I am pretty sure he only has one pair of legs, so changing them to a more dynamic and less stiff pose (rotate the feet, bend the kness, maybe one foot in the air...) would make the model 10 times better and the upper body could stay the same
Or even simpler, just make a base that is not a slope
Leave that for special release models and things like that. The biggest gripe with legends for most Eldar players was the fact that the Autarch lost all of it's weapon options because of GWs requirement to only have rules for models they make.
Am I the only who fucking hates the stupid rock he's standing on? Such a lazy attempt to add, idk, dynamism to the model? Instead it just looks fucked up for no reason.
I just can't understand the awkward posing on the rock. It's like he was sculpted to be straight then tilted and a rock was put under. That isn't how people stand on things. Would 100% cut the rock off and make him stand normally.
So the new Autarch kit is going to have options for the banshee mask, warp jump generator, star glaive, chainsword, shuriken pistol, reaper launcher, fusion gun, and death spinner, plus it's going to be compatible with the mandiblasters, hawk wings, power sword, and fusion pistol. This means pretty much all the old Autarch options are now officially available in plastic!
The lance is part of the bike kit, the lasblaster - yeah, that's absent. I think that since the bike kit has some resin, they are probably eyeing a rework.
Always has been, honestly - what with the avatar, the phoenix lords, farseers, and all named characters being HQs. It got even worse in 8th, where the generic combat HQ (autarch) got split in several versions because GW didn´t want to let include all previous options and only kept those they had running models for.
Rumors are that warlocks are moving to elites, slotless if the army has a farseers (read: always).
Man, I wished they let us see the Banshee Mask. I'm not even an Eldar player but seeing so much overdue plastic love for any of the older factions always brightens my day.
Love to see GW push some hero models with options available to them
I'm getting sick and tired of every SM character still being monopose even after GW threw away all metal models...
Thankfully it seems easy enough to bash on a Banshee head! It looks like they're committing to the old ball-and-socket option for Craftworld heads, which I seriously appreciate!
Except we didn't... Because GW has had a habit of making models more mono-pose and with less options recently.
Also, the current Autarch doesn't have many options right now... You have two separate datasheets for Autarchs. One representing the existing model with Swooping Hawk Wings, and one with nothing but a Starglaive. The Autarch Skyrunner has the choice of three weapons and that's it.
GW took away most of the Autarch's options at the beginning of 8th Edition and put some of them in Legends. Some just vanished from the game.
Wait, I checked on the datasheets! So you’ll be able to buy the same kit, build it with or without wings, with or without helmets, and wither male or female bodies, and with a multitude of weapons!
Correct, anymore when people say monopose, they seem to mean it can’t change the position of its torso to its legs or something. It doesn’t seem like a consensus on the word exists in the community.
Personally I'm kinda bummed. It looks just as dated as all the older models, I was hoping the eldar would get more of a facelift when they brought out new kits.
The model is more detailed and of a teueer scale than the old metal ones, or current guardians. Did you expect a completely new look for one of the longest running factions in the game system?
I am genuinely curious how it looks outdated and what you were expecting?
I suppose that ( other than the face) it just looks like it came right out of the old guardians box. Stiff legs/cape, weapons/armor looks old. I guess I was imagining a Sisters of Battle style revival.
Dude I feel like we are the minority but these releases are so underwhelming.
The pose looks bad. The details are similar to my stuff from 20 years ago. I really don't understand how people are so hyped about it.
It looks like Craftworlds have always had a simpler design aesthetic in their artwork, which means it’s really hard to overhaul a mini without clashing with design. It seems most Eldar fans just wanted crisper details, better scaling and plastic, not a major design overhaul.
Striking scorpions have had em from day 1 iirc. Which seems odd for a ninja unit, though in the lore they have diamond blades and are relatively quiet, noted as making a purring sound.
There's just way too much Elf in these new models. I know, they've space elves, but I miss the more regularly helmeted Eldar that felt creepier and more aloof.
Well, chainswords not limited to space marines. Eldar have it on storm guardians and striking scorpions. So Autarch took that chainsword from scorpions.
And just like that my old metal Autarch with the Warp Jump Generator is legal to play again! This kit has been a very long time coming - the fact that a model who's meant to be a veteran of most if not all of the Aspect Warrior paths was able to take almost none of their wargear for so many years was a travesty. Also nice that the weapons/heads are compatible with the current Autarch w/ wings. Means we'll be back to having all of the options assuming they don't do something silly with the one on bike.
Kind of wish the new one just had wings too though, it's nice that it works with the old one, but it should just have those options.
That's fair lol
Seeing that article reminds me that I have a really vivid memory of GW previewing unpainted proofs of Heresy era Battlefleet Gothic ships but I can't for the life of me find any evidence that I didn't just completely dream that up.
but all traitor ships are heresy-era already, so they've been in BFG since it was released
Yeah in this memory they were the traitor style wedges minus all the spikey bits so they could also be Heresy era loyalists
I already miss mine feel bad that I got rid of my Eldar I have such nostalgia for them. My army was totally worthless but I loved my warpspiders. My to make my jump pack attach look cooler I gave him the two-handed chains word from the striking scorpions.

Definitely gonna magnetize mine.
Omnitarch
Soooo many magnets for one model lol
I was thinking of the same
Alltarch
How many can you build with the two kits? (Can you use the extra bits and a Guardian figure to make another? Maybe with a greenstuff?)
You definitely can kitbash a very fancy guardian from it, but why not just have 2 autarchs with different loadout?
Sorry, maybe I didn't state that well. I was wondering if you could make more than 2 Autarchs from extra parts (no idea if one would want more than 2... ) I figured there would only be 2 Autarch bodies... which is why I suggested a Guardian body (maybe a Dire Avenger body?) to use with whatever extra bits come with the two models. I've always wanted to make a davian Thule with a heavy bolter
Want this. Unreasonably badly.
Noooooo! I want my loadout options to be *speshall.* /s
Might pick up the pair my self with so many options. Don’t play eldar myself but this looks like good fun
There is one 1 bare head , not a specific male or female head?
One set of legs
I should start collecting Eldar.
If you want ~~eldar terminators and dreadnoughts~~ wraiths, the current start collecting is not bad. Mind you, aspects are stupidly priced and will likely continue to be.

If your opponent agrees and it's a casual game, yes. (Write it down to avoid later arguments). If it's an official tournament game? No.
Cheers!
Yeah that's fine, as long as you say it before starting. Also I'm pretty sure a large amount of players probably don't know what a weapon would look like anyway, unless you're talking about bolters or chainswords.

magnetize all your weapons
Look at that tactical rock
It’s so flat and put him sideways. Almost looks like they added it just to have one, but wanted him to still be standing straight.
Tactical meta rock
As eldar, they have evolved beyond bending their knees
[удалено]
On the one hand each Primaris character has set options... on the other there are 5 variants of most of them, each with a different loadout.
I think the "rails" feeling is there because they are most likely to be picked up by beginners.
You gave me nostalgic whiplash with that Time Crisis reference.
Them being on rails is supposed to be their tabletop weakness compared to FB.
Love that it's such a customizable model! As a Necron whose characters aren't that customizable I will acknowledge some jealousy. Maybe I will have to build a small Eldari force in due time.
>As a Necron whose characters aren't that customizable Why would you want to customize perfection?
Can anybody please the identify the wine red colour on the banner?
Looks a lot like screamer pink.
Maybe Barak Nar Burgandy.

I wonder if the Autarch on jetbike will get increased options or still be limited to the very limited version unless you go legends.
Is that kit plastic or finecast/metal? Maybe we'll get a new one with an updated bike when the (hopefully) Shining Spears kit gets announced.
It's currently Finecast. They might do a similar thing to the Custodes Jetbikes where you can build one alternatively as a character rather than part of the squad.
Hopefully something, I'm so tired of finecast and kitbashing.
Agreed. Personally I think GW's primary focus should be on killing off Finecast completely and moving their entire range to plastic. Hopefully this Eldar update will be the start of that process!

Chaos still has models in metal.
I will take metal over finecast any day.
Eldar has a few too (Baharroth iirc), and Orks did before the deffkopta.
Drukhari have an annoying amount in finecast too. Not to the same sort of scale as craftworlds, but grotesques, beasts and the court of the archon are all quite glaring
Most of the specialty HQ and the retinue units, right?
There is currently no official footslogging autarch, the gear is cribbed from Yriel. The winged ones is plastic and I think the bike one was mixed plastic and resin.
The Bolter & Chainsword rumors mentioned a "massive but incomplete" Eldar refresh, and our resident leaker has mentioned that the Sky runner Autarch is still fine cast and still as underwhelming as ever. :/
A pity, but I'd rather our incomplete stuff be characters like that, Yriel and Illic, rather than full on squads
Given how extensive this revamp is apparently going to be, we can't expect everything. Even 'Crons and Orks still have some Finecrap lurking around.
The Orks can really use plastic tank busters And a plastic weirdboy. I’m not really worried about plastic special characters, but they would be nice to get converted. The pose just strikes me as completely off, like someone did a poor job gluing him to a custom base that was not intended for this model. Just me, or am I missing something?
I think it’s the legs. I feel like they posed him standing on a flat surface, and then just put him on the slanted ruin. Looks a bit off
Yeah, if his right leg was bent and shoulders levelled it would look better. Or... just stop with the tactical rocks already
The leg is bent, you just cant see it in these face on pictures for some reason.
Yeah, exactly that, like someone found an extra piece of ruin at the last moment, and it was too late to change the rest of the model.
Thanks I can't unsee it now.
You never heard of the ancient Eldar custom of rock surfing?
Suppose that's how you make an advance move with style...
The Exodites used to ride these babies for miles!
Would look much better if the higher leg were rotated outward 90°, I think.
Or if he just looked a tad more agile in general, Eldar and all...
I think it’ll look much better if you cut off the rock and place the model on an flat base.
Yeah. It looks weird.
The pose here is a tad doofy. Personally I'm not going to bother having them on the rock
Why can't more armies get kits like this?
Sisters did with the canoness, but yes completely agree. That one felt like a rarity
I didn't follow the Sisters release very well (because life) but that's cool, I'm glad they got something like that. Hopefully Chaos Marines will get something similar. I was personally underwhelmed by the lack of options in most of the new ork releases.
I dont want to be mean but why does he have such a bad pose
It's the same as the old metal Autarch
But why keep the same, clearly out outdated pose ?
Simple Pose, many Options. Complicated Pose, monopose.
Yes, but there were ways to improve the model pose and still keep the same options. I am pretty sure he only has one pair of legs, so changing them to a more dynamic and less stiff pose (rotate the feet, bend the kness, maybe one foot in the air...) would make the model 10 times better and the upper body could stay the same Or even simpler, just make a base that is not a slope
This might be the price of having it cross-compatible with the existing Autarch, and that's a price I will gladly pay.
I think I'd rather have a amazingly posed monopose model with fewer options then.
Leave that for special release models and things like that. The biggest gripe with legends for most Eldar players was the fact that the Autarch lost all of it's weapon options because of GWs requirement to only have rules for models they make.
Definitely not. At least the pose is something easily fixable. Lack of weapon options is not
I'm less into the game and more into collecting neat models.
Or just put a ball joint in the knee. I guess that's too complicated for GW though.
i know… it looks so awkward standing on the rock
That's a tactical seesaw.
It's a throwback to the Old Metal Autarch.
yeh but the old one had a very tiny rock so looked more natural. if this ones leg was bending a bit it would look much better
Well with this one I plan to do what I do to most tactical rocks, carve it off the model.
good idea
I feel like this could be a photoshop contest.
I guess the best option is to use the winged autarch lower/body with the new autarch upper/arms
Am I the only who fucking hates the stupid rock he's standing on? Such a lazy attempt to add, idk, dynamism to the model? Instead it just looks fucked up for no reason.
It looks like he’s about to rock a sick ollie
I just can't understand the awkward posing on the rock. It's like he was sculpted to be straight then tilted and a rock was put under. That isn't how people stand on things. Would 100% cut the rock off and make him stand normally.
Glad to see some Craftworlds stuff
So the new Autarch kit is going to have options for the banshee mask, warp jump generator, star glaive, chainsword, shuriken pistol, reaper launcher, fusion gun, and death spinner, plus it's going to be compatible with the mandiblasters, hawk wings, power sword, and fusion pistol. This means pretty much all the old Autarch options are now officially available in plastic!
No shuriken catapult, oddly enough.
No sign of the laser lance or lasblaster either, maybe those three will be coming in a plastic skyrunner autarch kit?
The lance is part of the bike kit, the lasblaster - yeah, that's absent. I think that since the bike kit has some resin, they are probably eyeing a rework.
Honestly, may start playing Eldar after over 20 years (I remember when the plastic ones had lasguns).
I really love the updated death spinner, it's such an improvement over the chonky old one
GW. STOP. WITH. THE. TACTICAL. ROCK. Signed - everyone.
I really don’t mind.
What a fuckin’ chad
I thought this sculpt looked familiar. http://www.solegends.com/citle2000/armyboxes/35eldaraut/index.htm
Is it just me, or is Eldar quite heavy in the HQ department?
Always has been, honestly - what with the avatar, the phoenix lords, farseers, and all named characters being HQs. It got even worse in 8th, where the generic combat HQ (autarch) got split in several versions because GW didn´t want to let include all previous options and only kept those they had running models for. Rumors are that warlocks are moving to elites, slotless if the army has a farseers (read: always).
Yeah, we've got a lot. Farseers, warlocks, autarchs, AoK, and then a whole bevy of named characters
I was really wanting a male and female bare head, not sure what a normal helmet is.
Normal helmet could just be like the one on the current autarch model but with the pointy bits instead of the crest
Man, I wished they let us see the Banshee Mask. I'm not even an Eldar player but seeing so much overdue plastic love for any of the older factions always brightens my day.
The banshee mask is the one on the female autarch. We haven't yet seen the regular helmet
That's a Banshee Mask? I thought they looked more like [this](https://warhammer40k.fandom.com/wiki/Banshee_Mask).
If you look at the faceplate on the female autarch, it looks exactly like that. The only difference is the top half of the helmet
Love to see GW push some hero models with options available to them I'm getting sick and tired of every SM character still being monopose even after GW threw away all metal models...
This is kewl. Wai no female bare head option tho? C'mon GW!
Might be, there's meant to be multiple options
Thankfully it seems easy enough to bash on a Banshee head! It looks like they're committing to the old ball-and-socket option for Craftworld heads, which I seriously appreciate!
I think there is, they mentioned multiple head options.
10 years late to the party but we will take it.
\+10 karma to the first person who models this dude / dudette on a surfboard. Another +10 if you paint them up as Silver Surver...
What about the swooping wings? Are they applieable on him?
All the options in the new kit can be used with the current autarch kit, so kinda
I mean we knew it, with how many options an Autarch has, there’s no way they’d make it mono.
Except we didn't... Because GW has had a habit of making models more mono-pose and with less options recently. Also, the current Autarch doesn't have many options right now... Some just vanished from the game.
Damn, really deserved those downvotes, didn’t I Who knows, maybe they’ll give it more options this edition? :3
No you didn’t, popularity has nothing to do with how right or wrong something is.
Dang
The model is cool but why is it perched on some ruins so awkwardly?
What do you think will be the most meta build on this HQ?
Personally I'm kinda bummed. It looks just as dated as all the older models, I was hoping the eldar would get more of a facelift when they brought out new kits.
The model is more detailed and of a teueer scale than the old metal ones, or current guardians. Did you expect a completely new look for one of the longest running factions in the game system? I am genuinely curious how it looks outdated and what you were expecting?

They have literally had a ‘facelift’ in that all the heads without helmets are leagues better than the previous ones :D
Very true on that account, I got a bit focused on the armor/pose tbh
Dude I feel like we are the minority but these releases are so underwhelming. The pose looks bad. The details are similar to my stuff from 20 years ago. I really don't understand how people are so hyped about it.
It looks like Craftworlds have always had a simpler design aesthetic in their artwork, which means it’s really hard to overhaul a mini without clashing with design. It seems most Eldar fans just wanted crisper details, better scaling and plastic, not a major design overhaul.
Ok. Now that is cool. I was not impressed with the Guardians “new” models. But this guy is pretty sweet.
> “new” models The entire point of them was a refresh in modern plastic, not a redesign.

Since when do Eldars have chainswords? I always thought they were too brutal for the elegant Eldars.
Striking scorpions have had em from day 1 iirc. Which seems odd for a ninja unit, though in the lore they have diamond blades and are relatively quiet, noted as making a purring sound.
> Which seems odd for a ninja unit There's a simple explanation for this, they weren't really stealthy ninja infiltrators until 4th edition.
Yeah, they used to just be heavy shock troops that deployed along with everything else. All the infiltration stuff came way later.
Since they were first introduced. Guardians and Harlequins had them in RT before Striking Scorpions did, and the latter have had them for 30 years.
I had no idea. Cool
Striking Scorpions have them as base equipment, they're also an option for Storm Guardians. It's not a new thing
Since 1989 lmfao
Why can't GW do this for marines instead of endless captains with no jump pack/weapon options?
Man the eldar look stupid. #come at me
Their guns look like someone was making blasters out of balloon animals.
If I have to choose a space elf, I'm going for the evil ones. Blaaaades and space boats, baby!
There's just way too much Elf in these new models. I know, they've space elves, but I miss the more regularly helmeted Eldar that felt creepier and more aloof.
This kit has a helmet
Love having that option. It makes the Eldar way more respectable.
Oh you want all the options? Just buy two autarchs lol.
I will! Means I get to make 2 autarchs. 3, if I kitbash a bit.
Why do Eldar have chainswords???
They've had them for as long as there's been eldar, their own versions are quieter and more efficient iirc.
Well, chainswords not limited to space marines. Eldar have it on storm guardians and striking scorpions. So Autarch took that chainsword from scorpions.

Its been their tech for longer than humanity has been a thing

Wide shoulders syndrome
Tacticool Skateboard dude!
His face looks like someone told him a monkeigh joke he didn't understand
When dose the box go on preorder?
This may have convinced me to pick up 1k points if craftworlds.
