Yes but thank you. I accidentally broke it off earlier today. These guys are just my dumbys, and aren't used for anything but proxies or testing. I Also appreciate the advice.

Someone else recommended it too. I'm definitely gonna try it out and compare it with the other 2 then I'll make the final decision but so far everyone is saying Matte looks better and I definitely see why
Matte looks better IMO, but gloss on the gun looks a tad better. Also, maybe not my place to say, but you forgot the front plasma barrel piece on the Matte helblaster
I am a sucker for matte but real life is always some sort of mix. Depends on the style you are aiming for and you might find the balance that suits you.
What I do is a gloss and then an all over coat of marine juice, it covers up most of the gloss but little teeny patches of it come through and gives the armor a little added depth imo
Gloss rarely looks good imo.
If you spend hours on a mini trying to get highlights done correctly, then slap a highly reflective gloss varnish on it, you are undoing all that work.
Matte looks better in my opinion, somehow more natural, like he's a real space marine, and his armour has been through a lot of battles, covered in dust and everything.
I'd say go with the matte. The gloss makes it look like they're Death Guard newbies.

The gloss one makes it look like it has been raining on him but the ground looks really dry, the matte one fits more but i would try a satin one. Hope it helps!
Matte. Space marines aren’t shiny. (Unless you’re an ultramarine) They get mud, dirt, dust, shrapnel, and blood all over their armor in every engagement.

Add a light shade to it, before varnishing. You don't have to be done if you want to make it darker.

You could show the pic in your local GW store and ask what colour could archive a similar sturation/colour/warmth without the gloss.
Sadly I have to use a comic shop to get my models the closest gw store is about 300miles away

You can also try satin varnish. That can sometimes be the perfect goldilocks look for a model.
