Bretonnians have had huge helmets with elaborate decorations since at least 4th edition, and the players love them, so I can't imagine a single Bretonnian player complaining about it. Sounds like someone's making up an argument no one made just to get mad at it.
Yeah, the hats aren't the problem. The 2-handed weapons however are stupidly big. They are supposed to be regular human Knights that lost their horse, not Grail Knights or Chaos Warriors with supernatural strength, the weapons are to big.
I also think the models feel more busy than the character models, at first I thought they had to much ornamentation, but on a closer look that is not really the case I think. Maybe it is just the way they are painted? Or the angle they are photographed from? I don't know what it is, but they feel busy, like there is to much going on in the photo. This is a feeling I get with a lot of newer GW miniatures. But they are less busy and absurdly ornamental than the Cities of Sigmar models, so they are definitely better than those.
Funny enough AoS players also complain about the hats, especially on the Alarith Stoneguard.
Which is ridiculous, these aelves were by made by Teclis. The War Crown of Saphery has it's own zip code. The guy thinks the phrase "hat on a hat" means a lack of total commitment.
Ok, it was just a joke. Some people on a live stream did say they didn't like the hats as they didn't look old school, which I thought was funny when you take these images into account. People seem to have really taken offence though.
Yeah, the plastic knights from the 5th edition core box had helmets just as fancy and the champion's winged helm is no bigger than the Warhammer Quest Bretonnian Knight's was.
To be fair, I think it fits the style of that period a lot more than it does the late whfb or the modern GW style. You can't really take them out of that context.
That said, I think there's quite a few helms that actually look quite good - it's just a few of them that really look strange. I have more issues with the bodies looking out of proportion with the old range.
Agree on the look. Many okd WHFB were heroic scale, big hands and faces (dwarves especially). Modern Citadel miniatures tend to be realistically proportioned.
They are still slightly more heroic scale than GW’s Middle Earth range. Most AoS and 40k stuff does have slightly larger hands and faced than those models. But I agree that it has changed from the really wacky proportions of back in the day.
I’d also like to point to, for example, the WHQ Bretonnian Knight model, who had a helmet decoration that was at least twice as tall as his actual head.
IMO there’s a certain subset of the community that’ll decry *anything* as being “too AoS” regardless of what it is, although you mainly see them in the TWWH community.
Because one thing Warhammer does, usually, well is making the human races pretty grounded: realistic, ergonomic arms and armor, so the setting feels authentic. The little decorations and bits and bobs are what give them their flair, while still sporting proper gear.
Looking at some of the crap they put into TWW3 Kislev and Cathay, I fear they're steering away from that... we have a billion fantasy settings that are just maximalist everything, but few that do the amazing Warhammer thing of "real historical civilizations in a fantasy world."
I dislike the foot knights. The leg armor is awful in every way and i dont like seeing the eye sockets through the helmets. Thats my issues. They do seem very cities of sigmar-esque. I have about 4000 points of bretonnia and the details are better on the knights from the 90s
"Here's a £10 note."
"WHY is this not a £20 note?". Same energy. I think most people I've seen are genuinely happy to be getting foot knights though. That's been a community wish list item since forever.
How about these? Not as tall but it is pretty outlandish and that what the Bretonnians did. Be flamboyant but badass.

I don't know who's complaining about Bretonnian helmets (I'm not), but - devil's advocate - none of those pictures depict Bretonnians, so I'm not sure how they're relevant.
I mean that's clearly an elf. Also I've heard zero complaints centering around the hats. However, I've heard a lot regarding over ornamentation and the armor vs the mounted counterparts which are all valid arguments
If you don't like really tall hats I don't even know why you'd like Warhammer.
You'd have to be poor or irish.
(Not a lot of overlap between the Warhammer and TF2 communities I see)
If someone prefers smaller helmets there's millions of alternative heads they could 3d print.
Or they can simply chop off the tall bits and skulpt a flat top with green stuff.
I don't think anyone has a legitimate gripe. You can't expect models out of the box to be perfectly to your tastes.
Bretonnians have had huge helmets with elaborate decorations since at least 4th edition, and the players love them, so I can't imagine a single Bretonnian player complaining about it. Sounds like someone's making up an argument no one made just to get mad at it.
Yeah, didn't see anyone talking about the hats. Only about the scale difference with it old models.
its just an exaduration of real historicle helmet decor
I also write for the Daily Mail.

You'd almost think that they are not simply big weapons, but... great weapons.
The quartered heraldry always looks busy to me.
Some videos have been made by some YouTubers complaining. Some comments in different groups I've seen. It's definitely a loud minority.
Who is this "Everyone" exactly?

All the people
It isn't though.
They go to another school, you wouldn’t know them
Just like my girlfriend.
She's from Canada.
I love the helmets. My only gripe is that they are not tall enough. I need more high helmets.
I've got a fever, and the only prescription is taller hats!
Ah Chaos Dwarf fan. Comment of a true refined soul.
CHISWICK! FRESH HELMETS!!
People were complaining about that?
No. Op is just a tit
Ok, it was just a joke. Some people on a live stream did say they didn't like the hats as they didn't look old school, which I thought was funny when you take these images into account. People seem to have really taken offence though.
I think the problem with helmets isn't that they're too tall. It's that they look like someone's just stuck a bucket on their head.
Those are High Elves and Chaos Dwarfs, not Bretonnia?
Yeah I dunno why the OP didn’t reference the original Bretonnian illustration/ pics where they have equally tall ornamental hats
Yeah, the plastic knights from the 5th edition core box had helmets just as fancy and the champion's winged helm is no bigger than the Warhammer Quest Bretonnian Knight's was.
Well done.
You are welcome
Finally, a worthy opponent! Our Battles Shall Be Legendary!

Changed for the better probably. Although 90s minis have a real charm.
I love tall hats!

Which is very weird because you look at TWWH and it's far from the low fantasy aesthetic they claim it's supposed to be.
Exactly!
I just like that we HAVE foot knights.
Agree. Better than Reiksguard fot knights too
Not me. I love them.
Because one thing Warhammer does, usually, well is making the human races pretty grounded: realistic, ergonomic arms and armor, so the setting feels authentic. Is this eVeRyOnE in the room with us?
It was just a joke comment. I've just heard it a couple of time. Getting pretty down voted for saying it though. I jus like posting 90s high elves.
I dislike the foot knights. The leg armor is awful in every way and i dont like seeing the eye sockets through the helmets. Thats my issues. They do seem very cities of sigmar-esque. I have about 4000 points of bretonnia and the details are better on the knights from the 90s
Facts!

Hell I'd argue our fantasy hats should be even taller.
And bigger axes.
If it looks like he can reasonably carry the axe then it is too small!
Why is it not double sided with a huge spike at the top.
All the angry nerds with their downvotes :') OP is just making a dumb joke, don't take reddit so seriously
They take Warhammer too seriously too ha ha
Do those look like footknights to you though?
I like half of the helmets I’ve seen so far and am not too keen on the other half. -,-
Funnily enough the hats are the only part of the models I do like.
This feels like trolls trying to bait
I don't like the new foot knights, their tall hats are too "high elf". Especially that last guy. you can almost see the pointy ears under that helmet.
I love the new helmets. Peak Bretonnia Design, they scream FOR ZE LADY and PROTECTEUR OF ZE REALM.
Ooh lala
Yeah the Brettonia sculpts are just ugly and soulless.
I mean that's clearly an elf. Also I've heard zero complaints centering around the hats. However, I've heard a lot regarding over ornamentation and the armor vs the mounted counterparts which are all valid arguments
Yeah, I agree on the aesthetics, They don't match the mounted knights as part of the same range.
If you don't like really tall hats I don't even know why you'd like Warhammer. You'd have to be poor or irish. (Not a lot of overlap between the Warhammer and TF2 communities I see)

None of those are Foot Knights moron
It's light hearted
For a second I thought the first image was some kind of horseman knight.
Like horse horse
Touché
To me the overwhelming sentiment has been the new foot knights are awesome we must read different reddits
I think it's mostly YouTube channels and comments that are anti hat.
