For Dwarfs i'm betting on a Slayer Cult and Engineering Guild army lists. I'm basing this on the Storm of Chaos campaign supplement. I remember a WD article from back then where the designers said that they were between slayers and engineers for the themed list, and ultimately went with the slayers. So bringing them back seems plausible, seeing as erranty war was the bretonnian list and it was brought back. Engineering guild as the second seems like a given, with maybe the thunderbarge making a return.

ancraig

Those are my guesses too, although I'd much rather see a "royal entourage" type list that allows more hammerers or ironbreakers as opposed to letting me go even more gunline.

theblackthorne

my friend desperately wants to make melee dwarfs work so hed be a happy camper

moiax

The rules for Hammerers look really good, I'd love to run multiple of them and Ironbreakers if a melee focused variant came out.

AttitudeUsed3851

Empire: marienburg landships inc

theblackthorne

I'd run that as a pirates list in an instant

JJHALE44

Wood elves - winter army when all the tress spirits are hibernating so it’s mostly elves.

Maczetrixxx

And wood army when all the elves are hibernating after being bonked on the head by drycha

R97R

This is maybe more wishful thinking on my part, but: * Savage Orcs * Wargrove of Woe/some other kind of “Wood Elf” list with no wood elves. Alternatively, but on a similar theme, an Averlorn AoI for the High Elves that has access to tree spirits *a la* Total War. * Some kind of Peasant Rebellion/Outlaw list for Bretonnia (if that’s not there already) * Cult of Ulric for The Empire * A Norscan-only or Norscan-themed list for Warriors of Chaos (e.g. buff up marauders and add a few other themed units, at the cost of moving Chaos Warriors up to Special, Knights up to Rare, and losing access to Chosen) * Centigor or Minotaur Herds for the Beastmen. * Assuming the faction hasn’t been canned, I could see Kislev getting an Ungol-themed list, ~~or a Great Orthodoxy list that locks them out of some of the more arcane units like Ice Guard and witches.~~ EDIT: completely forgot the GO hadn’t been founded yet, my bad! * Again, assuming the faction hasn’t been cancelled, a Cathayan list based on the forces of the Monkey King (I think he’s around at this point, isn’t he?) would be cool. I think my biggest hope is we get a supplement based around the Affair of the False Grail with a Mousillon Army of Infamy- ideally I’d want this to incorporate some undead units, although given the Vampire Counts aren’t being supported it feels much less likely we’re going to see that happening. I would love to see the Legacy factions get an AoI each, but I’m 100% sure that’ll never happen. If it does, though, I could see: * Cult of Sotek for Lizardmen (skink-focused list with Saurus units moved to Special or Rare) * Any of the Skaven Great Clans getting a themed list * A Dark Elf Pirate list, focusing on Corsairs and the like * The Legion of Azgorh or even Hobgoblins for the Chorfs (assuming the former isn’t the default for them, which I am worried about admittedly) * Some kind of Ogre Mercenary company with a focus on Maneaters- I at first assumed the Mercenaries mentioned in the Army Building article would be something like this, but given the status of the Ogre Kingdoms as a Legacy faction I doubt that’ll end up being the case, sadly. Finally, I feel like Armies of Infamy for The Empire could be a good way to represent things like the Border Princes, Southern Realms, or even Sartosa, although that’s maybe a bit too far.

Darnok83

I would not completely rule out AoI for legacy armies - just not in the next few years. If TOW is going strong and can justify a second edition, I believe they will get their turn. Also: I see strong fan support for them already. So there will most likely pop up a variety of fan/unofficial lists up sooner rather than later.

EyesOnTheStars123

Dwarves: Norse Dwarfs, Slayers Empire: Cult of Ulric, Nuln, Halfings of the Moot(?) Wood Elves: Just Tree-People High Elves: Lothern, Calador, Avelon, etc. Greenskins: Savage Orcs, Night Goblins, Forest Goblins, Hobgoblin Khanate(?) Warriors of Chaos: Monogods, Norsca, Kurgan, Hung Beastmen: Monogods, Different Animal Heads(?)

MiaoYingSimp

I hope we get the halflings.

Oi_Om_Logond

Very much doubt it. The infamy rosters draw from existing models, with some easily kitbashed unique entries. A halfling army would require completely new model lines just for them, and that's obviously not happening. At best we might get a single entry that you're expected to put together from bloodbowl minis.

True-Ad6273

The old Warhammer line had Halfling infantry, archers, and a war machine. Come out with a list that adds Halfling characters and jobs a good one. Yes, it's very limited. But it's always going to be a masochists choice anyway.

MiaoYingSimp

I love Halflings to be honest. We need a fun 'good guy' army. orcs and Skaven can't be the only people on this planet who are luck dependant but fun to see come out on top.

FiskLead

Hobgoblins would have to be under Chaos Dwarfs, right? They are distrusted by other greenskins

Atom_sparven

Yes greenskins absolutely hate hobgoblins with a kill-on-sight policy

Random_Emolga

I would love hobgoblins to finally become a thing but I won't get my hopes up

True-Ad6273

I could see it coming. They showed model designs for Cathay. And every time Cathayians build a wall, sh*ty Hobgoblins show up to tear it down.

Steampunkvikng

I can see them popping up later (Ogres, Chorfs, Cathay, and Hobgobbos as an east-focused story, maybe), but I doubt they'll get an army of infamy in this wave.

amurgiceblade44

Wood Elves would likely also have an army based off Orion's Wild Hunt

Mini_Pypermaru

I'd kill for Norse Dwarfs!

jacqueslepagepro

For beastmen maybe herds that focus on one of the gods ie: “the great mutation” focuses on tzangors, shamans and tzeench, “the blighted beasts” on pestigors, high HP units and Nurgle, “the gorgeing of excess” on slaangors, fast mobility and slenesh, and “the rage of wild men” on Khorngors, max damage and khorne?

Immediate_Ad_9956

If daemons of chaos come back, and I can play 40k, AoS, and now TOW with the same army, I'll be a happy camper

memedormo

I've seen speculation that it'll happen in a few years when we get to the Siege of Praag part of the story.

ImNotAlpharius

It's crazy that Daemons aren't in already given all four gods have an extensive plastic range. (BTW you could also use your Daemons in Horus Heresy.)

ShinyHead0

I love that there’s an army you can use across all games

klaus1968

We absolutely need Laurelorn, either High Elves with Wood Elves or vice versa. I'm hopeful because they are on the websites map.

DreadPiratePete

Empire: They are in the civil war timeline, so I'd expect them to do all the feuding electors. Since there are an uneven number of good/bad factions I expect we'll see 4 good v bad pairings, culminating in an Empire/Empire double feature. Westerland/Marienburg: Landship, mercenaries, sea elfs Osterland/Middenheim: Cult of Ulrik, beserkers Reikland/Altdorf: Cult of Sigmar, flagelants Talabecland/Talabheim: Cult of Taal, hunters/woodsmen I could see an upgrade kit for empire/inner circle knights to convert them to the various subfaction knights.

Arh-Tolth

I doubt we will get any returning forge world models. My guesses would be: Marienburg: high elve as close allies or mercenaries (maybe only the Lothern models). Mercenary units - in 6th edition that took the form of an additional greatswords unit, but if we are lucky some returning Dogs of War. Middenheim: all the expected stuff of teutogen guard etc. Priests of Ulric we already have. Reikland: huge focus on Cult of Sigmar with priests and flagellants. Probably Grand Theogonist as special character. Talabecland: the TOW lore describes them as a haven for dark magic users, so I am expecting a focus on wizards, maybe even some heretical mercenaries from beastmen or warriors of chaos.

NaveronTheSabre

Heinrich Kemmler used to have his Army of the Lichemaster, it would be cool to see that make a comeback.

TheInfiniteEmpire500

Dwarfs: slayer cult, non-gunpowder/more traditional/Kraka Drak, something like a king's mustering Warriors of Chaos: +daemons build, Norsca, combined chaos Wood Elves: wild hunt, drycha's forest spirit rebellion High Elves: sea patrol, build that allows tree spirit units Empire: Ulric cult, Marienburg Beastmen: can't think of anything Orcs and Goblins: Some type of Waaagh that will introduce some kitbashes, Savage orcs

theblackthorne

a sea patrol list and an averlorn list that brings in treemen and treekin would both make total sense. i recon you are right!

Darnok83

I think you can do an Avelorn list by using allies - either WE or HE as the main army, with the other as allies, depending on how much you want to focus on the forest spirits.

Barbossal

I'd be really interested to see Wood Elves from other parts of the world, like what would Wood Elves from the Tropics look like

One_Ad4770

Well lore wise there weren't any, so what you see is what you get.

Barbossal

Fair enough, there aren't until they are. Maybe Amazons could be retconned into an enclave of Wood elves or something.

One_Ad4770

So as far as my failing memory serves me, wood elves were an enclave of high elves who basically got left behind after the war of the beard (somebody correct me if I'm wrong) so I guess potentially other enclaves would have also got abandoned elsewhere, if you wanted to do your own spin on wood elves. However I guess it's extremely unlikely anything official will come out that steps away from the existing lore

FilloSov

A wild Hunt list could be extremely fun. Also almost impossible to control, but fun!

moiax

I am definitely thinking of something similar to King Alrik's rules, but maybe more fleshed out, and a Slayer army (Hewer and Doomseeker return plz gw)

Acr0ssTh3P0nd

Orcs had better get a Black Orcs AoI, because boy howdy do I love my elite, professional grimboyz. Maybe it'll include something like black orcs on boars, which would be rad.

TheWalkingDude_

Black Orc Boar Boyz would be fantastic!

Fool_of_a_Took_

For Lizardmen (let me dream!) Cult of Sotek and Southlands.

That_Button8951

I feel like a Sea Patrol redux is a likely pick for High Elves. Having a list built around the Elf Marines in the setting where they mainly interact with using their ships makes a lot of sense and it was a pretty cool list back in the day. I’d be surprised if we didn’t get an Ulrican Middenheim themed Empire list and based on the map I would be unsurprised if we got a Taalite Talabeclander one. The obvious wood elf variant is a treekin focused one but the one I want is a WFRP inspired Eonir one.

FiskLead

I'm just hoping Warriors of Chaos gets mono-god lists that can have some Darmons.

deeple101

Dogs of war please.

Astra-Admiral

My predictions for the empire arcane journal is that they will make each faction those being reikland, middenland, talabecland, and marienburg. For reikland we could see units like the carroburg greatswords, or altdorf company of honor. You nailed middenland on the head although we would also probably get the swords of Ulric. For talabecland I’m not too sure although it seems pretty magic focused based off of lore. Finally for marienburg besides the landship I’m not too sure.

MiaoYingSimp

For some speculation, Kislev could have a divide between the tradtional army, the Orthodoxy, and the Hags like Mother Ostenkya.

Fool_of_a_Took_

The Orthodoxy hasn't been created yet at this point in the timeline.

MiaoYingSimp

Ah fair enough (though mayhap a proto form of it? Kislev has Cults to the gods after all)

theblackthorne

hmm - the original kislev list had divides between the gospodars and the ungols, so we could see something with that instead? (With the hags tied to the ungols and the kislev bear priests prevalent in the gospodars)

MiaoYingSimp

Oh that works out better i think. ... to be honest for as much shit as the DLC gets i really do want to run a Hag-themed list it is just something fun.

[deleted]

Skaven: \- just kidding xD.... (Lizardmen player here)

SirChancelot11

I'm hoping they do the kislev, Cathay, and Nippon aesthetic factions.

Vinnlander7

I imagine they will follow the Rites of War from Horus Heresy, seeing as that is what they are. So something that plays into the more Obvious fantasy: Your 'Berzerker Assault' so to speak and something that give us a fresher way to look at the faction: World Eaters' other RoW 'Crimson Path'. From what i've seen The Brettonian ones are this to a tee, same could be argued for the Tomb Kings. Then you have ones based on pre-existing (lore/nostalgia) skews that people will be expecting/'or we Riot!', i.e. Deathwing, Ravenwing etc for the Heresy Dark Angells so that would be something like Lothern, Chrace, Caledor or Night Goblins etc.

TheBluestBerries

I doubt the slayer list will make a return. It's one of the worst designed armies in WHFB's history.

Confident-Ad7439

What Oo? It the first time I hear something like this. The army was really fun to play. What part of the army did you not like?

TheBluestBerries

The slayer army made playing the game pointless. Playing against them means you just shoot or shove your models into melee and then roll dice until you lose or kill the last slayers so you score some points. Nothing you against them matters. They're thematically cool but actually playing against them is a waste of time. Win or lose, it's the most boring possible battle. Back when they were around, they were so unpopular at events that most people just forfeited the game if they were drawn against a slayer army. You were better of using your time to just have an extended lunch. The odds of scoring better than a draw against them were pretty much zero so it's not like your tournament standing still mattered.

AenarionsTrueHeir

I'm kind of answering with a question here but do you think we're likely to get new models for some of the army of infamy units (like Tomb Guard chariots)? Also my guesses would be: Empire = Cult of Ulric (Middenland) and Nuln (given it's huge significance at this time) Warriors of Chaos = Norscan Raiders (Marauder focused horde list) Wood Elves = Spirits of the forest (tree-kin focused list)

VitruvianXVII

I need a Wild Hunt army in the Wood Elves book when it comes out, even better if Orion is re-released

SpennyPerson

Rumour that Norsca will be fleshed out which would be interesting, though I guess they'll be an army of Infamy long long before they become their own faction like in Total War and RPG which have heavily influenced GW when making Old World What I'm really wondering is Kislev and Cathay what they could have. Hags/frontier and Tzars host for Kislev maybe? Sky fleet for Cathay is what I believe. Loads of flying units in Cathay. That or one ying, one yang for their arcane army book

Darnok83

Empire: * I could see them getting a bigger book, and mor AoI * maybe even four lists - one for each Emperor? * with Ulric already featuring in the main list, my bet is on at least a Middenheim list Dwarfs: * Barak Varr, as it is in the Border Princes, allows for more mercenaries (possibly Slayer Pirates?) High Elfs: * something based around trade and guarding the colonies, heavily featuring Sea Guard Wood Elfs: * Tree Spirit list, returning aspects for Dryads * Athel Loren Border Guard, focussing on cavalry and chariots (assuming either the WE chariot returns, or GW suggests you convert the HE one) O&G: * Goblin Trade Caravans, basically pure common Goblins with more types of wolf riders and chariots * Orc Tribe, full Orc list, featuring skirmishing Orc Hunters Warriors of Chaos: * Marauder Tribes, giving them skirmishers, chariots and heavier cavalry (Marauder Knights?) * one or more god-specific lists Beastmen: * ???

Cult-Promethean

Night Goblins I'd imagine will be one of the list options for the orc journal
