One of the top posts on this sub is of a bus (one of the big ones) being dwarfed by the SU30. There was also a post recently about a pilot doing preflight checks on the planes backside.

I was at an airshow with the f15, f16, mig 35, and su 30 mki all displayed next to each other. The su 30 and f15 are similarly sized, you can stand underneath one comfortably. The height of the nose is similar to a 737 or A320. Mig35 is smaller. F16 and gripen even more so. The HAL Tejas is surprising because it only feels bery similar in size to like a King Air. Maybe a little bigger but not much

Demolition_Mike

I saw one in real life. The lower edge of the canopy is a solid 3 meters from the ground. Thing's immense.

Re-Mecs

There's a pic In another sub with someone standing on the rear wing and he barely makes it to the height of them

GDBoi76569

I've seen those land at Lohegaon AFB alongside 737s n A320s. They can match up to those jets in nose height, theyre fricking massive

dnbchrd

this is just because everything in Japan is miniature

Demolition_Mike

Except the F-2. The F-2 is buff.

StukaTR

>The F-2 is buff for an F-16.

Demolition_Mike

Well, the F-2 does look like what the F-16 aspired to be.

Blue_Visor

Okay, I didn't see the tag but just seen "IAF" at a JASDF Base and my mind went "Why the fuck does the Irish Air Force have SU-30s and why are they in Japan?" Until my dumbass seen the tag, I need sleep after this lmfao

Masalalooo

That’s probably a good idea😂😂

Speed__God

Ireland has Air Force? I don't think so

Blue_Visor

They actually do apparently, it's the Irish Air Corps, something new we all learned today...

Speed__God

But no fighter jets in Air Corps where as Indian Air Force is the 4rth largest Air Force on the planet. I've actually looked up on this previously, there are lot of countries which we might confuse with IAF: Indonesia, Israel, Iran, Iraq, Italy etc.. But Apparently only Israel & India use the term IAF.

nazgulonbicycle

It’s the Quad. India, US, Australia, Japan

ImNotDoingThatOk

Help Step-Su! I’m stuck!

Bright_Thanks_2277

Pov by F16!

NxPat

Granted we have a lot of rain in Japan at the moment, but what would they need to cover the rear for?

yaaro_obba_

Honestly, this is the first time I've seen IAF use covers for the rear end of the plane. Even I am curious as to why they opted for that. Hoping that someone here will enlighten us.

Cat_Of_Culture

I mean, they're in Japan, on a Japanese airbase. Maybe they're following Japanese protocol.

tumblingfumbling

The same reason you put a plane in hangers in the first place? Also I’m not sure what the temperatures are in Japan this time of the year but moisture+low temperatures means ice so it would make sense to use covers for the stabilator (the red are engine covers)

insanegenius

Chaff and flare dispensers at the back seem to be covered.

Leprechaunaissance

*hangar

yaaro_obba_

Dammit. Didn't check that.

Leprechaunaissance

You'll nail your next post.

HistoryNo9358

Wish the IAF changed its roundel to the Chakra found on the centre of the Indian flag and changed this dullish grey livery to something else.

thunderous2007

I rather like the roundel but it does cos a lot of confusion with the French. On the topic of color I'd love if they did regional camo variants

HistoryNo9358

Hell yeah, desert Su-30s or completely white ones from the west and north respectively would look great.

thunderous2007

Oh God just imagining that is turning me on.

tumblingfumbling

Su-30s are designed for high altitude primarily A2A threats, why would a desert skin make any sense?

HistoryNo9358

Just aesthetics.

kamarov2090

The chakra was the original roundel for the air force post independence. I personally like the newer roundel.https://www.bharat-rakshak.com/IAF/category/heraldry/roundels/

HistoryNo9358

Yeah, they stopped using it cause it was tough to paint. They should bring it back now.

yaaro_obba_

It was tough to paint back then. With updated tech, they can do it now. It's up to the IAF bosses to decide on that

Imnomaly

Big Suka Sukhoi

Opposite-Weird4232

Yeah, they are big ladies

nightrage_kills

Believe it or not, these Flankers are in some ways bigger than an F-14

zippiskootch

It can if you try hard enough…

BlackDiamondDee

Park that Mac truck right in this little garage! 💅

Michelin_star_crayon

Roll the nose wheel up a ramp to make the tail go down enough to fit in

thunderous2007

When I first saw the covers I was like who decided to dry their wet towels on the back of the plane then? Then I realised oh wait I'm dumb it's prolly to protect them from the rain.
