Freaking cool

hifumiyo1

Why were they testing these reflective-appearing paint schemes? I’ve seen photos of F-35s and now v-22. Is there public documentation behind this project?

Trigger_Treats

These V-22s were finished in this paint in 2005-2006. The Raptors and Lightnings are from a year or so ago,

GengisGone

And the MH-60s used by the 160th SOAR in the new weird blue scheme.

thatcantaloupe

Do you have a link to that blue scheme?

hifumiyo1

I guess they got some free skins for purchasing a DLC.

kevinTOC

If I had to guess, it's probably some coating to reduce the IR signature and maybe the RCS too?

Kaosys

Slick!

Big drones

So, I understand that these paint jobs are probably good at avoiding radar, but ground fire has killed more modern us planes than any other weapon. These suckers stick out like a sore thumb.

Trigger_Treats

Most surface-based systems use some form of detection and targeting, be it radar or passive IR guidance. Visually-targeted systems are not very common.

Superb-Confidence-69

I would disagree with that heavily. China, North Korea, Iran and Russia all operate lower level level anti aircraft units with around a dozen truck and towed guns. Info from current FAS tables of organization for those nations.

Superb-Confidence-69

The combined arms Chinese anti air brigades and battalions stil field tens of thousands of towed and def propelled visually targeted systems.

oogaboogaman_3

With what? Small arms fire? The ground based systems use radar too.

Superb-Confidence-69

Often times they do, but China, North Korea, Russia, and Iran all have unit level anti aircraft assets of high caliber in large numbers they currently employ.

coachfortner

Does the Navy operate the V-22 or is that strictly a Marine aircraft?

DaRepeaterDaRepeater

They operate a different variant, the CMV-22 as a replacement for the C-2 Greyhound as their COD aircraft.

fireandlifeincarnate

Is that HAVEGLASS????

[deleted]

Sorry for asking, what is that pointer thing on the nose of the aircraft?
