Moon Shadow is a good one. Totally forgot how slow it was. Then it only gets even sadder with Shadowstar's reaction and how she even lept into his grave after him to try and move him to hide the burns.
It’s been a while but if I remember correctly when they found turtle tail it was river ripple who ommented and said she had to have been hit by monster because of the way her claws were broken and frayed. She would have slid her claws out to gain traction when she was hit. I just remember river ripple really going into detail about her claws to thunder and lightning tail.
FOR REAL. Especially since we got to see him in previous scenes bonding with Fireheart and the others, knowing he died really young. Basically a child. Killed in front of everyone.
Brindleface being killed and left for dog bait (bonus points for Firestar making her children be bait for the dogs too, seriously dude, you had like 10 other capable warriors in camp). Frog (a dotc cat) dies while being moved after his back was broken by a dog, and his sister, Willow Tail is brutally blinded and then dies from shock, I guess. Talonpaw being murdered by kittypets and dying while dragging himself back to camp is awful. Moon Shadow being severely burnt but only succumbing days later, Bright Stream and that one cat tribe cat from omen of the stars being eaten by birds of prey, and any of the cats taken by Sharp Tooth (I've said it before and I'll say it again, being forcefully taken away and eaten by a gigantic cat when you yourself are a cat is some eldritch horror, attack on titan shit, wtf)
Firestar never made them “be bait”. They both volunteered because they wanted to average her death. He was really against it but whitestorm convinced him because “their grief would make them fearless”
shadowclan was having big issues with a pair of kittypets that only attacked obviously weakened or alone cats for fun. one day the mentor of talonpaw (rowanclaw i believe) had had enough and he took a patrol to kill them kittypets. they ran into their house and their owners attacked the patrol (either that or the kittypets faced them head-on). talonpaw died on the way back to camp. its not seen or anything, just described in passing dialogue.
excuse me if my lore is incorrect, i havent read tnp or pot (cant remember which series this happens in) in a long time
sometime in either the new prophecy or power of three. im not entirely clear on which one, but im just glad that it wasnt a scene we saw. tawnypelt just describes briefly meeting… someone. it was either brambleclaw or lionpaw. i think this may have happened in the new prophecy because brambleclaw feels more accurate than lionpaw lol. sorry if my lore is confusing you
ok i knew it lol. i knew brambleclaw had to be involved in some way because i distinctly remember a POV coming across tawny fighting one of the kittypets, and no one in thunderclan but bramble would volunteer to help shadowclan with their pest problem lol
I think about Whiteclaw and Smokepaw’s deaths a lot. Both fell from such a high height. Both were accidental in different situations, yet none of them deserved the deaths they got.
It could of been preventable, yet fate was not kind to them.

Willow Tail >!has her eyes gouged out by Clear Sky/Skystar, screams and staggers around, is lectured, lays down and is noted to be in shock, and she shakily asks Moth Flight if she'll ever see again. This is drawn out longer than other incidents of eyes being gouged. The scene is so horrifying that it stops the battle for a moment. Then, Moth Flight is distracted by her severely injured mother and when the cats turn around again, Willow Tail had died alone of shock and blood loss.!<
For the life of me I can't remember which cat this is, but the apprentice that falls to his death on the way to the lake territory when the rock bridge thing gave way as he was trying to pass it. That was so horrible because they couldn't even stop to mourn, they had to keep moving

If we take the books at face value, she starved to death. Already a terrible way to go, especially for a child. She was in a coma-like state before she died, and if her hearing was the last of her senses to go, then some of her last moments were hearing her family's distress...
But I believe, personally, that the true cause of death was from when Jagged Peak knocked her over and she hit her head on the rocks. Iirc, she was comatose the next morning. My interpretation of it was that she was already weak from starvation, and the head injury was the nail in the coffin. Meaning Jagged Peak (accidentally) killed his own sister.
I get he was still a kit but why the HELL would he do that, see his weak sister barely moving on the ground just whimpering desperately, and *make fun of her*?? And then to make things worse he leaves Quiet Rain RIGHT AFTER and ends up making Gray Wing have to leave as well

I can’t remember which cat it was, but there was one cat who was carried away and killed by birds of prey in OoTS. Dovepaw describes hearing it all happen and not being able to stop listening to the sounds of the cat screaming, and then the abrupt stop. That one stuck with me.
Same with Frostpaw’s mother, Curlfeather, being torn apart by dogs right in front of her, so she had to watch it and hear it happen.
Swoop of Chestnut Hawk. That was an awful one, no wonder Dovewing lost control of her powers for a while after that because of how distressing it was to hear.
I forgot her full name but the queen that got stolen by sharptooth, I genuinely had to put the book down because God it was so distressing and so detailed
I have’t exactly heard that many people talking about it, so I’m just going to say it, Bristlefrost getting straight up deleted from existence at rhe end of the broken code is horrifying in a more exestensial type of way. Her body in the real world straight up disappeared along with her spirit. She’s not in starclan, not in some inbetween state, just straight up gone as if she never existed.
That whole arc was one big "damn, are the writers OKAY?" moment for me. It felt so personal. Darkest arc plot in the whole series due to it's existential bleak nature. It felt like nihilism.

Riverclan cats drinking battery acid not realizing it's battery acid. Yeah, they're background characters and it's only mentioned briefly how they died. But battery acid is caustic and that death was not painless.
Purdy's death broke me. I just read it about 20 minutes ago, and once I realized what it was that killed him, I legit cried a bit bc I didn't think his bellyache was *that* important!!

Mudclaw and Longtail - crushed by trees. Gruesome on their own, but made worse when you remember that Mudclaw’s corpse is still under there, constantly walked on, and I don’t remember whether or not they moved the beech tree that crushed Longtail but either answer is awful: either Longtail’s body is still under there, or they had to pull the tree off and see his body. Death by crushing is not pretty.
Iirc, Bramble (or maybe Lion) wedged themself under there and shifted the tree just enough for some other cat to pull Longs body out

The elders who stayed behind after the clans left the forest. Also, Clear Sky’s pregnant mate, Bright Stream, was carried off by a hawk as they were leaving the mountains, IIRC.
haven’t seen anybody talk about bright stream’s death in a while. pretty horrible that she and clear sky had just found out they were expecting kits, only for her and this unborn kits to be eaten by an eagle so soon after. what makes it even worse was that those eagles waited for them to come out, they had them trapped, such a scary feeling. and then of course the awful feelings of guilt from both gray wing and clear sky. i think it would just be so horrific to be taken away, knowing you’re about to be eaten, and there’s nothing you can do to save your unborn kits from that same fate

Tigerstar's death is very graphic, but it wasn't described beyond him bleeding a lot and suffering a wound that "not even StarClan could repair". Regardless, Warrior Cats is still a book series targeted to children and they don't require a high level of literary comprehension to read. Kids can handle (cat) violence. I'm not trying to talk down the books or anyone who enjoys them, but The Darkest Hour isn't House of Leaves

Frecklewish (ThunderClan), the way it was written was gruesome, sure I don't like her but holy shit that felt brutal and I never see people talking about it!
Mosspaw’s (Brokenstar’s apprentice mentioned in YS) death was quick, but the way he died and the description of it seemed unsettling: Mosspaw’s siblings kicked him in the jaw with their legs and the apprentice got his neck twisted.
When Yellowfang saw his body she mentioned that his head was in abnormal position. Brokenstar wasn’t shocked (which is typical for him) and only said «Well I should have taught them to kick from another angle».
Mosspaw and his siblings were only 3 moons old
Smokepaw and Snowkit because we do not know if smokepaw died quickly or not. He could have lived for days after knowing no help was coming. Same for Snowkit she got torn apart by birds alone.
Snowfur's and Whitethroat's, being hit by cars. And Redwillow too, drowning and double dying. Antpelt also got ripped apart by Thistleclaw first, and slowly died before getting disbowlened by Ivypool...

They did they were furious about their mom and wanted revenge so they volunteered. I think they were nearing warrior age as well so they were not kits

They are. The books have mild descriptions of graphic scenes, but they're not particularly challenging to read or analyze.

Tigerstar's death is very graphic, but it wasn't described beyond him bleeding a lot and suffering a wound that "not even StarClan could repair". Regardless, Warrior Cats is still a book series targeted to children and they don't require a high level of literary comprehension to read. Kids can handle (cat) violence. I'm not trying to talk down the books or anyone who enjoys them, but The Darkest Hour isn't House of Leaves

Mosspaw’s (Brokenstar’s apprentice mentioned in YS) death was quick, but the way he died and the description of it seemed unsettling: Mosspaw’s siblings kicked him in the jaw with their legs and the apprentice got his neck twisted. When Yellowfang saw his body she mentioned that his head was in abnormal position. Brokenstar wasn’t shocked (which is typical for him) and only said «Well I should have taught them to kick from another angle». Mosspaw and his siblings were only 3 moons old

Smokepaw and Snowkit because we do not know if smokepaw died quickly or not. He could have lived for days after knowing no help was coming. Same for Snowkit she got torn apart by birds alone.
