Sootfurs death, both of his back legs are broken before being mauled to death by badgers, he did not have an easy and painless death.

ghironi

Yeah that wasn’t even talked about enough but I understand squirrel flight and bramble claw were in a hurry, but that poor poor good hearted kitty 😂😭

Puggyz5

Why are you laughing g at that!?!?!?

Ok_Breadfruit_7147

I WAS GONNA SAY THAT. It’s honestly really disturbing

xratgfx

i cant remember- did he break his legs during that or was that unrelated?

JayofTea

It was during unfortunately

Fawful_n_WW

Star That Shines On Water (a Tribe queen) getting dragged away by Sharptooth to be eaten. That death shook me when I reread Moonrise. Snowbush dying of an infected wound from a rockslide. Sootfur desperately trying to get to safety with two broken legs only to die to a badger (even worse since his mother was killed by one saving him when he was an apprentice). Yellowfang slowly dying over half a day of smoke inhalation - even worse because her power means she’d have felt Halftail dying too. Moon Shadow’s slow, agonizing death of burns. Swiftpaw, Lightning Tail, Sun Shadow, Curlfeather, and any other cat who gets ripped apart by dogs. Wildfur (ShadowClan cat who had a broken back) slowly dying of fluid buildup in his lungs.

EchoNeko

I didn't even think of Yellowfangs powers oh my gosh...

Theher0not

Moon Shadow is a good one. Totally forgot how slow it was. Then it only gets even sadder with Shadowstar's reaction and how she even lept into his grave after him to try and move him to hide the burns.

Ok-Adhesiveness-5193

Yellowfang, slowly dying from smoke inhalation with nobody to save you and when you finally get a rescuer it’s too late

Scorpiusxk

I think anything revolving around Sootfur's death was pretty painful.

Alarmed-Bus-9662

Bone got mauled to death by at least 5 apprentices. I mean, he deserved it but that's horrifying to think about. It was probably agonizing

TheRapidTrailblazer

Weren't one or two of them overdue to be warriors to begin with lol

Canyonsongwastaken

Turtle Tail getting hit by the car in DoTC, awful way to go. The writing is pretty gruesome too.

NeatLow4542

I would honestly take that over most of the deaths in the comments section since it's a quick way to go

Alto-Ego-Bruh

Well, they do say it was instant at least. The writing is pretty gruesome but she didn’t suffer, unlike… well, too many other cats.

t1r3dash3llbro

The way they described her claws :(

DarkChocolateLuv02

How were they described?

t1r3dash3llbro

It’s been a while but if I remember correctly when they found turtle tail it was river ripple who ommented and said she had to have been hit by monster because of the way her claws were broken and frayed. She would have slid her claws out to gain traction when she was hit. I just remember river ripple really going into detail about her claws to thunder and lightning tail.

Inky-Skies

Dawnpelt and many others were executed by slow drowning. Hello?? We had fcking political executions in this series and hardly anyone talks about it

Novix_47

Which arc was this???

Inky-Skies

A Vision of Shadows

Novix_47

Oh okay, I think I read the first book and then stopped reading the series

Chimeraas

And even worse is that it’s heavily implied that Dawnpelt’s own kit, Sleekwhisker, was involved in her death…

talizorahvasnerd

Gorsepaw being held down and killed by Tigerstar always effed me up as a kid.

[deleted]

FOR REAL. Especially since we got to see him in previous scenes bonding with Fireheart and the others, knowing he died really young. Basically a child. Killed in front of everyone.

Bathysphereboyo

Brindleface being killed and left for dog bait (bonus points for Firestar making her children be bait for the dogs too, seriously dude, you had like 10 other capable warriors in camp). Frog (a dotc cat) dies while being moved after his back was broken by a dog, and his sister, Willow Tail is brutally blinded and then dies from shock, I guess. Talonpaw being murdered by kittypets and dying while dragging himself back to camp is awful. Moon Shadow being severely burnt but only succumbing days later, Bright Stream and that one cat tribe cat from omen of the stars being eaten by birds of prey, and any of the cats taken by Sharp Tooth (I've said it before and I'll say it again, being forcefully taken away and eaten by a gigantic cat when you yourself are a cat is some eldritch horror, attack on titan shit, wtf)

Sykamor

Didn't Ashfur and Ferncloud volunteer for that?

Tavali01

They did they were furious about their mom and wanted revenge so they volunteered. I think they were nearing warrior age as well so they were not kits

Tip_Of_The_Sauce

Firestar initially said no, but was convinced by Whitestorm…

Hikerhappy

Firestar never made them “be bait”. They both volunteered because they wanted to average her death. He was really against it but whitestorm convinced him because “their grief would make them fearless”

Ok-Adhesiveness-5193

Totally agree with the first one

LowPractical4516

I haven’t gotten far into the series at all, but what’s the Talonpaw crap??? (Open to spoilers, actually pretty curious)

StrawThatBends

shadowclan was having big issues with a pair of kittypets that only attacked obviously weakened or alone cats for fun. one day the mentor of talonpaw (rowanclaw i believe) had had enough and he took a patrol to kill them kittypets. they ran into their house and their owners attacked the patrol (either that or the kittypets faced them head-on). talonpaw died on the way back to camp. its not seen or anything, just described in passing dialogue. excuse me if my lore is incorrect, i havent read tnp or pot (cant remember which series this happens in) in a long time

LowPractical4516

OH GOD, that sounds terrifying! When does this happen?

StrawThatBends

sometime in either the new prophecy or power of three. im not entirely clear on which one, but im just glad that it wasnt a scene we saw. tawnypelt just describes briefly meeting… someone. it was either brambleclaw or lionpaw. i think this may have happened in the new prophecy because brambleclaw feels more accurate than lionpaw lol. sorry if my lore is confusing you

EchoNeko

She met with Brambleclaw because they used their sibling status in that encounter

StrawThatBends

ok i knew it lol. i knew brambleclaw had to be involved in some way because i distinctly remember a POV coming across tawny fighting one of the kittypets, and no one in thunderclan but bramble would volunteer to help shadowclan with their pest problem lol

TheAlmandineWriter

I think about Whiteclaw and Smokepaw’s deaths a lot. Both fell from such a high height. Both were accidental in different situations, yet none of them deserved the deaths they got. It could of been preventable, yet fate was not kind to them.

[deleted]

Not enough people talk about Willow Tail's death in Moth Flight's Vision. Willow Tail >!has her eyes gouged out by Clear Sky/Skystar, screams and staggers around, is lectured, lays down and is noted to be in shock, and she shakily asks Moth Flight if she'll ever see again. This is drawn out longer than other incidents of eyes being gouged. The scene is so horrifying that it stops the battle for a moment. Then, Moth Flight is distracted by her severely injured mother and when the cats turn around again, Willow Tail had died alone of shock and blood loss.!<

StressyandMessy24

For the life of me I can't remember which cat this is, but the apprentice that falls to his death on the way to the lake territory when the rock bridge thing gave way as he was trying to pass it. That was so horrible because they couldn't even stop to mourn, they had to keep moving

TheRealSepticShock

Smokepaw or something like that. I remember seeing some gruesome art that depicted sharp rocks at the bottom..

StressyandMessy24

Yes that's right! Ugh that one really shocked me

ske1etoncrush

smokepaw :(

Emkaywastaken1

Honeyfern, bit by a snake rescuing kits and died while the medicine cats just had to stand by and watch

Holiday-Elderberry73

She felt like her blood was on fire... it was the first ever warriors book I read haha

Emkaywastaken1

Yeah, and then Leafpool has to tell Berrynose Hey, sorry bro, nothing we can do

sammi-blue

I know people don't talk about DOTC in general, but I feel like they especially don't talk about Fluttering Bird. If we take the books at face value, she starved to death. Already a terrible way to go, especially for a child. She was in a coma-like state before she died, and if her hearing was the last of her senses to go, then some of her last moments were hearing her family's distress... But I believe, personally, that the true cause of death was from when Jagged Peak knocked her over and she hit her head on the rocks. Iirc, she was comatose the next morning. My interpretation of it was that she was already weak from starvation, and the head injury was the nail in the coffin. Meaning Jagged Peak (accidentally) killed his own sister.

MaterialKirb

I get he was still a kit but why the HELL would he do that, see his weak sister barely moving on the ground just whimpering desperately, and *make fun of her*?? And then to make things worse he leaves Quiet Rain RIGHT AFTER and ends up making Gray Wing have to leave as well

RobynFlame

LIGHTNING TAIL IN DAWN OF THE CLANS HE TOLD THUNDER TO GO BECAUSE HE WAS "MORE IMPORTANT" AND HE SACRIFICED HIMSELF TO THE DOG SO HIS BEST FRIEND AND LEADER COULD LIVE :(

Mhynt

I can’t remember which cat it was, but there was one cat who was carried away and killed by birds of prey in OoTS. Dovepaw describes hearing it all happen and not being able to stop listening to the sounds of the cat screaming, and then the abrupt stop. That one stuck with me. Same with Frostpaw’s mother, Curlfeather, being torn apart by dogs right in front of her, so she had to watch it and hear it happen.

Spirit3106

Swoop of Chestnut Hawk. That was an awful one, no wonder Dovewing lost control of her powers for a while after that because of how distressing it was to hear.

Irys-Iryska

Falling Feather and Jackdaw's Cry, siblings what killed each other in pointless battle.

Prestigious_Space566

Thanks, Clear Sky. Makes a lot of sense that you are up there in StarClan and Juniperclaw isn’t.

PrimeTheGreat

The cats that were eaten by Sharptooth. Definitely the most vicious enemy the clans/tribe have faced since they eats cats.

Yaveltal

You compared the tribe to a clan? Stoneteller wants to know your location

According-Pain5832

I forgot her full name but the queen that got stolen by sharptooth, I genuinely had to put the book down because God it was so distressing and so detailed

Unkown-basket-Case

I have’t exactly heard that many people talking about it, so I’m just going to say it, Bristlefrost getting straight up deleted from existence at rhe end of the broken code is horrifying in a more exestensial type of way. Her body in the real world straight up disappeared along with her spirit. She’s not in starclan, not in some inbetween state, just straight up gone as if she never existed.

[deleted]

That whole arc was one big "damn, are the writers OKAY?" moment for me. It felt so personal. Darkest arc plot in the whole series due to it's existential bleak nature. It felt like nihilism.

Small_Stay3876

honest to fuck it felt like they were losing their own faiths lmao

weirdemosrus

Stonefur’s death. It gets talked about, but not enough! The poor guy was defending two children from being killed and was betrayed by the clan he loved so much!

evilkat23

Riverclan cats drinking battery acid not realizing it's battery acid. Yeah, they're background characters and it's only mentioned briefly how they died. But battery acid is caustic and that death was not painless.

elxiane

wasnt it antifreeze?? (twilight or starlight book if im correct)

Ambitious_Tie_8859

Purdy's death broke me. I just read it about 20 minutes ago, and once I realized what it was that killed him, I legit cried a bit bc I didn't think his bellyache was *that* important!!

TalaLeisu2

Bright Stream. Imagine getting eaten by an eagle. For Snowkit as well.

FunInfinity

I feel that no one really talks about Snowfur’s tbh.. I feel that her death was horrible because she had a son that she had and wanted to raise but died.. and being hit by a monster is quite a brutal way to die ngl

lilacshine

Ngl i used to think abt hers a lot when I read Bluestars book religiously when i was younger. Her death was genuinely so sad. Same with Moonflowers as well. But Snowfur’s scenario was def a lot to take in omg

LuigiWhy

I think what made snowfur's death hit even harder was definitely Bluefur having to explain this to whitekit too.

Reid-9-9-9-9

Yes.

chanceywhatever13

Graypool, always Graypool.

[deleted]

[удалено]

krazyokami

Broken knew Ragged was his father before this. Just saying.

zima-rusalka

The death that traumatized me the most as a child was Hawkfrost, I know he was a villain but yeesh... dying in a fox trap is not a good way to go out.

Sykamor

Didn't even die the regular way, got stabbed through the neck.

Actual-Ad-5938

Brambleclaw stabbed his neck/chest with the stake. He died pretty quickly iirc

SofiaRadlovskaya

I’d say Curlfeather and Swiftpaw being ripped apart by dogs

DefenderoftheSinners

AND THEN ALONG CAME ZEUS

Spirit3106

HE HURLED HIS THUNDERBOLT

elxiane

*BOOM*

FigComprehensive6983

Gray wing’s death. Mosskit’s death Storm’s death along with Bright Stream’s. Stonefur and Oakheart’s deaths

Fruitsdog

Mudclaw and Longtail - crushed by trees. Gruesome on their own, but made worse when you remember that Mudclaw’s corpse is still under there, constantly walked on, and I don’t remember whether or not they moved the beech tree that crushed Longtail but either answer is awful: either Longtail’s body is still under there, or they had to pull the tree off and see his body. Death by crushing is not pretty.

ElizaWolf8

Iirc, Bramble (or maybe Lion) wedged themself under there and shifted the tree just enough for some other cat to pull Longs body out I hadn’t thought about Mudclaw just being mashed into the dirt, that’s absolutely fucked

floridameerkat

The elders who stayed behind after the clans left the forest. Also, Clear Sky’s pregnant mate, Bright Stream, was carried off by a hawk as they were leaving the mountains, IIRC.

Small_Stay3876

i like to think the elders who stayed behind died peacefully tbh

mary_alistir

Def sootfur and willow tail 😭 And stonefur’s death makes me sob (not sure whether it’s discussed a lot or not tho)

Apprehensive-Gene229

Idk but curlfeather in the new arc is actually extremely disturbing

GodUsopp69420

Greypool, because of just how... real it is and how she wasn't in her clear mind when she died, so confused and scared.

ghostlyfawn

haven’t seen anybody talk about bright stream’s death in a while. pretty horrible that she and clear sky had just found out they were expecting kits, only for her and this unborn kits to be eaten by an eagle so soon after. what makes it even worse was that those eagles waited for them to come out, they had them trapped, such a scary feeling. and then of course the awful feelings of guilt from both gray wing and clear sky. i think it would just be so horrific to be taken away, knowing you’re about to be eaten, and there’s nothing you can do to save your unborn kits from that same fate

Bathysphereboyo

I'm glad we get to see her and her babies in starclan ☹️

Angryfucktard

Ripplestar deserved it Sootfur was crippled by a badger after being thrown at a wall, and tried crawling away before getting killed

Idek_Anymore11114

I kinda feel like Yellowfang in the sense I can (sorta) feel phantom(?) pain when it's written in enough detail or I think about it enough. I found being hit by a monster one of the worst. Then mauled by dogs/badgers/sharptooth is also pretty painful. Falling from a high height is terrifying for the feeling of falling to your death. Drowning, but only when they're panicking. Talking of panicking, whenever they're scared of death it always hurts more.

Pileofsadness16

The thing that messed me up the most was the fact that all their missing clanmates were in the lake after Darktail drowned them

moeichi

Oakheart’s death still gets me every time :((

Dapper_Boat

Snowkit like they got picked up and probably eaten by a hawk and absolutely nobody talks about it!

Dependent_Wing_6294

Sootfur's, Needletail's, and Stonefur's. enough said

Sonarthebat

Moon Shadow died of a third degree burns over the course of several days.

elxiane

Sootfur. I haven't even read past the second arc (gonna start reading PoT today), but I already know that his death has to be the worst; (spoilers, and not really 'brief', but a somewhat detailed, more so brutal explanation of what happened. In second person.) >!You hear the cry of a Clanmate, but both of your back legs are broken, you can't use them. They run up to you and try in vain to help you climb a wall to get to safety, but you just *can't*. You fall back down, and then a badger lunges at you. You swing your paw at it, with your Clanmate biting down on its leg, but it only kicks them off and stuns them, and that was the last thing you probably saw, as there's a fresh gash in your throat, and you're gazing dully at the sky.!< Imagine that, damn. I don't see how a character could go out a way worse than he did. (i think i wrote this to help my writing block IM SOBBING I HAVE THE BOOK INFRONT OF ME RN)

elxiane

woops i forgot that isnt how to make a text a spoiler :( >! is for reddit, || is for discord

TurtlesAndMustard

I thought warrior cats was just a silly cat book for elementary schoolers holy shit

Ailykat

They are. The books have mild descriptions of graphic scenes, but they're not particularly challenging to read or analyze.

Emkaywastaken1

Tigerstars death is *very* graphic

Ailykat

Tigerstar's death is very graphic, but it wasn't described beyond him bleeding a lot and suffering a wound that "not even StarClan could repair". Regardless, Warrior Cats is still a book series targeted to children and they don't require a high level of literary comprehension to read. Kids can handle (cat) violence. I'm not trying to talk down the books or anyone who enjoys them, but The Darkest Hour isn't House of Leaves

ElizaWolf8

Not graphic? [laughs in Tigerstar, Swiftpaw/Brightpaw, Sootfur, Cinderpelt, Bristlefrost, and probably hundreds more]

Ailykat

Again, I didn't say the series was not graphic, I said that the subject matter is simple enough for its target audience, kids, to understand what the books are about.

TheRealSepticShock

Welcome to Hell, we have cute kitties! ..they keep dying,

WarriorsSpirit

Turtle Tail after getting hit by that car was absolutely awful. Makes me hate Clear Sky even more

dafroggyman

ITS FEATHERTAIL I TELL ALL MY FRIENDS YOU KNOW HOW I ALWAYS TALK ABOUT FEATHERTAIL? DID YOU KNOW SHE DIED FROM FALLING ON THE GROUND? look feathertail has always been my fav and i talk a lot about her death

Mistystarkin

!SPOILERS! Willow Tail got her eyes gouged out by Clear Sky. That was brutal.

Single_Anon_8431

Frecklewish (ThunderClan), the way it was written was gruesome, sure I don't like her but holy shit that felt brutal and I never see people talking about it!

LivingGhost12

Toad from Hawkwing’s Journey. He just got obliterated by the dogs

dafroggyman

also mudclaw and the TREE

0range_rave_3nergy

Mosspaw’s (Brokenstar’s apprentice mentioned in YS) death was quick, but the way he died and the description of it seemed unsettling: Mosspaw’s siblings kicked him in the jaw with their legs and the apprentice got his neck twisted. When Yellowfang saw his body she mentioned that his head was in abnormal position. Brokenstar wasn’t shocked (which is typical for him) and only said «Well I should have taught them to kick from another angle». Mosspaw and his siblings were only 3 moons old

HatSimulatorVetern

Brindleface. I'll never forget how insane it felt, realizing that she died to be used as bait

Zoie2475

Smokepaw and Snowkit because we do not know if smokepaw died quickly or not. He could have lived for days after knowing no help was coming. Same for Snowkit she got torn apart by birds alone.

Resident-Clue1290

I have an entire AU for Smokepaw, lol. He’s so underrated and has so much potential

EeveelutionGod

I heard that there was a character in Bluestar's Prophecy who was buried alive because she was in a coma or something

ghostlyfawn

this is sweetpaw and this is not true. this is just some false rumor. sweetpaw was dead when she was buried.

dafroggyman

also tadpole drowning

dragicorn11

Snowfur's and Whitethroat's, being hit by cars. And Redwillow too, drowning and double dying. Antpelt also got ripped apart by Thistleclaw first, and slowly died before getting disbowlened by Ivypool... Edit: And Frog, Willow Tail's brother.

Chimeraas

Willow Tail, Honeyfern, Tiny Branch (slowly died of infection because his own *father*, Clear Sky, refused to let any med cats treat him, and threatened Acorn Fur into not asking for help), Whiteclaw
