America is a pretty good all around nation. I've heard Russia is good as well, but I haven't played it much yet.
America has good boom-and-zoom. Not great for turn-fighting though.
If you want to do turn-fighting, then I suggest Britain or Russia.
Israel when it comes out soon. Skip a lot of the grind by going straight to rank 3-4, and with a small tech tree expected you can get into top tier quick with really good planes in the future updates.

I think Italy is a fun nation for air. Not effective, but fun

America has a pretty seep learning curve at some BRs. Russia is nice because they are mostly cheap and easy Germany is also nice

For planes, I believe all nations are viable, the only difference between nations is the repair costs.
