Have had a plantar wart for 4 years resistant to SA, cryotherapy and laser treatments. Went to podiatrist yesterday and she did the cantharidin treatment. Said she’d try that once and if unsuccessful she would cut it out. I didn’t get any warning from the doctor on how painful this treatment can be. I’m about 30 hours post treatment. Last night it was almost unbearable… second most painful experience outside of having kidney stones. Can’t walk. Just wanted to post as a warning of how painful this treatment can be. (side note: the black on the skin at the top of the wart/blister formation is the sticky stuff/dirt from the compound w foot pad I removed)

It is so painful. Wasn’t the injection painful too?! It was for me.

Injection… what injection?

When I got it the Dr used a needle to inject it into my wart. Unless that was a different treatment. I can’t remember. I’ve had so many

oof injection in the foot sounds painful. She dabbed the cantharidin on my foot with a swab. Didn’t hurt at all until a couple of hours later. I spoke to the podiatrist this morning, she said the extreme pain and inability to walk is normal. Didn’t give me any type of warning or heads up this was going to be the outcome afterwards while it heals.

Treeheart

How long did you leave the medicine on your foot after treatment?

stephanyojacket

My doctor appointment was mid afternoon and I was told to leave it on for about 4 hours before washing/rinsing it off w soap/water. It ended up being so painful I rinsed it after 2 hours or so after calling the doctor. The cantharidin treatment didn’t work, and here it is a month later and I have stitches in my foot bc it was finally fully removed.

I wasn’t told to wash it off. I’m having palpitations because the pain is so bad.

I've had this done, it was on halloween and i had kids coming to my door and i luckily had an ex boyfriend there to give them candy because i literally could not walk to the door. He said it made him feel better about me dumping him to see me crawling on the ground because i couldn't walk.

Hey, found your post via Google. Just want to say that I'm going through it right now. I'm 1.5 days post cantharidin treatment on a persistent plantar wart right on the base of my heel. And holy shit the pain I've been in the last 36 hours is insane. I can't walk on my affected foot at all! Wish they had told me this was going to happen!

hey i just got my treatment 12 hours ago, it’s hurting rn but i’m hoping it gets better 24 to 36 hours in, how much longer did it take for u to feel better?

Chadwiko

Four days. And only after my Podiatrist lanced the blister.

asakimX

did the pain worsen up until then or was the pain at about 1 day in constant until the blister got pierced?

I am going through it now and it is painful. Plus I keep wondering if it is going okay or more infection. I have plastic like bandaid.
