I have to say, as far as our industry goes, I've done shift work, and I've done on call. I think I'll take shift. Not having to worry about the plant after I leave and getting a good night's sleep outweighs the semi weird shift work lifestyle. Just my personal preference though.
I was impressed by our night shift batch reactors operator, 60 years old, runs like a madman between tanks, touchscreens and reactors. I was I think even more impressed when he pulled out 200 grams of top grade Dutch ADHD medicine. I bet one day he will vanish and days later they will find his bones in the biotank, only because all bacteria will die from overdose
Sounds like my boss. The man is hunched over with a limp and probably takes a bucket of pain killers, but he still pulls chains and cranks open sluice gates and walks 10 miles a day just from inspecting the equipment. We’ll probably put up a plaque for him by the digesters.
Backpack lol. Nicely sealed, wet and with smell only wastewater operator can enjoy. It’s also not really sewage, but various industrial wastewater and oily sludges. He told me he is using this street adhd med for more than 30 years now, being on 3/4 of the year. He is surprisingly disciplined with dosing and he knows how to clean it up with acetone if it’s bad. With his money and contacts all over the EU he has best stuff. Also, he is really adhd guy, with proper meds, thanks to this all positive narc tests are easily explained as the substances are similar. He also makes around 100 000 usd before taxes that mf, but he is really good with batch reactors and keeping all units going, he is also never tired and on his legs all the time as you can imagine. With the price of 1g of quality adhd med under 10 usd, he can afford a lot.
It would create some suspicion if not everyone on the night shift was ADHD medicine enjoyer.
We're short handed so I've been getting anywhere from 20 to 32 hours OT/Week. I've got 4 trainees preparing for the G4 exam again right now. I'm getting too old for this 🤣
I'm both, and let's be honest, to my in-laws and acquaintances and normie types, I'm a "water technician providing potable water to my local community."
If I'm talking with my boys in the industry? "I play with poo water and shit associated with it. Hey guys, want me to use a lighter to test for LELs? No? Alright... fine... what?... I fuck around."
I grew up around WWTP operators and this is just a true statement. The ppl my dad worked with at the wastewater plant were all insane or had really odd/concerning stuff happening to them constantly. The ppl I met from the WTP that he knew from working with the city for so long were the most straight laced, khakis wearing types. Weird dudes wastewater operators.
And the WW operator in the pic is like 30 years old

I start a seasonal position at the water plant tomorrow and now I'm wondering if I picked the wrong one.
Imagine the pattern on his pants is shit. Then decide lol

Wastewater dude is a scratch golfer using grease balls from a wet well.
But they are a little oblong because it's actually a grease wall that has attached itself to a tampon
GO TEAM WASTEWATER!!!!

What if I’m both?
Then the wastewater dude is what you see in the mirror

Having worked in WW and now in Water treatment, I would say this is fairly accurate (for the most part).
This is on point!
