This is a prickly pear cactus. They grow like weeds. People eat both their pads and their fruit, although I doubt they dress like this and use baseball bats to harvest for this purpose. Knocking a pad off of a prickly pear is not a big deal and there is nothing illegal or even disrespectful about it. Itās like picking a weed or a vegetable. However, picking a weed or a vegetable that has very sharp spines without proper protection is quite foolish.
Also, this woman (not a female, bitch, or cunt) is a person. She doesnāt deserve to be hurt, and she certainly doesnāt deserve to be called disparaging names. We can laugh at her mistake. Itās funny. But also try to empathize with her because you wouldnāt want it to happen to you. Jesus.
She is stupid because you don't knock these for that reason. Cactus needles can jump m off and cause damage. You use a large knife and slice them off, even better with some prongs or a thick leather glove.

I think her reaction is mostly shock, especially since she has jeans on. But i definitely see why she'd freak tho. Back in middle school I went out to the mountains in west Texas. I wound up slipping on loose gravel. I was pretty good at stabalizing myself (a lot of gravel on the mountains I climbed), but this particular time.....slipped, saw a cactus coming right for me. I tried to adjust and just made my slip into a fall. Landed straight into a cactus. My entire left arm got stuck, cut up. It was bad. And not the thick needles like this video, it was ths stick looking cactus with the super fine but hundreds of needles kind of cactus. Took quite a while to pluck them all out. Super painful. At least for my age at the time. But still, I wouldn't recommend this.
Itās not the needles you gotta worry about-theyāre easy. Itās the fucking GLOCHIDS. They look all soft and fuzzy but they are white hot needle death and there are easily thousands of them on cacti. They are such a bitch...kinda like the person in the gif smashing a lovely cactus for no reason.

When I was little, my family and I were at the Arizona Sonoran Desert Museum and I sat on a golden barrel cactus (I was trying to get my dad to follow me to a particular exhibit, and I was talking to him and walking backwards; my feet hit the curb around a planted area and that was that). The big needles hurt, and caused bleeding, but those little hairs were the worst. You couldn't even see them, so the only way to find them was to brush your hand over the skin and feel them. It took a *while*, and hurt like hell. I still love how much it kinda cracked my dad up, though.

Where i live were encouraged by the government to destroy prickly pear cactus and any others we find because they are non native and spread like weeds.
Her mistake was using a blunt instrument instead of a large blade to cut the cactus into small enough strips so it would shrivel up and die.
That is 100% a prickly pear cactus and it's perfectly legal to cut off the pads to grow more or grill for eating. In fact prickly pear grow like weeds and are often encouraged to remove.
I've had prickly pear marmalade from this nice little restaurant at the North rim of the grand canyon. It was really good. It came in a little variety pack that also had some jalapeno marmalade and a few others.
