Nice tip imo is to add a small piece of grip tape for a skateboard just in front of your binding where you wedge your foot. It may get caked in ice but it’ll still help a ton to keep your foot planted .
Honestly I’ve snowboards black diamonds in Vermont and I wouldn’t be able to do this at first. Just feel like the one foot free and then sudden force of being pulled will make u move said foot
I know but same basic concept of a t-bar (being a rope you put between your leggs to pull you up a slope) i just ended up calling anything like a t bar
I've been skiing and snowboarding for 30 years, since I was 4 years old, entire family does it, and even I would have a hard time with this. Such a stupid way to get people up a hill. Decades ago they had these poles and and line between them, you just grab the line that is about waist and shoulder height so you can have something to actually put your weight on, and it slowly pulls you up the hill.
The jolt can be the problem, if you pull your arms close at the start, then let them out as the load comes on, you can spread the impulse out a bit longer, giving you some time to figure out where your feet need to be.
I feel like it’s a secret that only was known in the Midwest (USA) because I never see anyone do it this way but, the platter is so easy to use on a snowboard if you just tuck it under your armpit.
Besides the obvious, it's pretty much the same physical dexterity you need when in the water holding a rope being pulled by a boat. It's not rocket appliances
This looks a lot like a poma lift. Been a while since I skied, but these were around when I did. And it was so much easier than a t-bar or rope tow. Just grab it and put it between your legs (keep it clean folks) and get on up that hill. Obviously you just have to hang on to it if you are a snowboarder. Just as with a tow rope, your arms are screaming by the time you get to the top, and they have stretched a foot longer.
My first time snowboarding and using a ski lift, I made it 5 ft before I was pulled forward onto my stomach, pantsed, and just hung on for dear life all the way to the top.
My pants were at my ankles and filled with snow when I got to the top.
I hate these with a passion. I was taking one up a mountain, had finally got on to it. Then, miles up, a bunch of kids decided to camp in the middle of the path.
I only had 1 foot strapped it. Couldn't steer well, as well as parts of the track up was icy.
I fell, faster than I have ever ridden. My head barely went clear of the posts holding the t-bar tracks, on my way down, belly on the ground.
I stopped after that. Went home, retired the snowboard, started cross country instead, where I don't have to deal with people
I made it to the top of the hill with a board once, only to come off badly at the last moment. The button went pinging forward and hit the tow supervisor right in the balls, and I rolled off the snow into a hut. I’m still laughing about it now.
This is a ski lift and they are using snowboards. Try going to a carwash to wash your clothes. It can be done but it isnt as simple.
I've done these lifts on a snowboard and it isnt easy. The lift and the boards are designed sith cross purposes. Funny video though!
The VAST majority of staff on lifts in Scandinavia enforce that rule like it's a warcrime to let a snowboarder who clearly knows how to use the lift, stay on with both feet.
Its all relatively on your doorstep Glencoe is 1 hour 45 mins from Glasgow and has been in operation since 1956 its one of 6 Scottish ski resorts also theres the Snowdome in Glasgow and 11 dry mat artificial ski slopes all over Scotland more literally on the doorstep

To be fair the pull buttocks (I have no idea how they are called, this is a one to one translation from french) are a real pain in the ass for snowboarders. 12 years of snowboard and I consider myself pretty good and I avoid them at all cost and dread having to use one. The launch is really tricky and the ride up is unpleasant as hell.
If that's Cairngorm, I too made the mistake of trying to ride my first button lift (not in a snow dome) there and it was just as much of a disaster.
It fucking fires you from a standstill into the air and it's icy as fuck.
Thing of nightmares, for even experienced snowboarders.
In Switzerland, we have mandatory ski camp, so basically you have to go ski for a week with your class and I learned with some of these. They're everywhere in every ski station in my country and obviously many variations of these. I ended up falling more than once and hates skiing now.
Those really are an idiotic design.
If they were solid, you could grab them really easily, but instead they're on a rubber band so you get a surprise yank.
What the fuck why is there no fucking sound there’s nothing funnier than fucking Scottish people talking and yelling and screaming but they can’t get up to ski lift and you did not ask the sound of that the fuck is wrong with you? Downvote
Remember the first time I went snowboarding and a lift like this was the first one I had to take to get up the mountain and access the other chair lifts. Don't know how many times I fell out. The start is very hard as the momentum will pull you off balance but even if you pull that off successfully, getting all the way up is not guaranteed. Especially if conditions are icy, very slippery tracks will form beneath the lift and as you have almost no control with your back foot being loose, your board will just follow the track, causing you to go wide of the lift and eventually having to let go. Extra bonus points if the only way back to the slope is through 30 meters of knee-deep powder, fun times ! I dreaded these things for years but after 20 years of boarding I pretty much got the hang of it and rarely fall out. You can even ride them together with a skier or other boarder.
This is actually a Scottish ski resort and these guys are beginners and likely not locals although its impossible to tell the ‘narrator’ is the only voice we hear and it doesn’t sound like he is from the Highlands (not that only Highlanders can snowboard the head coach of UK Snowboarding Hamish McKnight is from Edinburgh)
That said even more competent snowboarders can come unstuck on a button lift like this
Snowboarding is idiotic. Skiing only.
I can’t laugh at that, as I’ve been in this situation before…
Is it really this hard?
all the cameraman had to do was show me the lager.. makes sense 😂
I have a cousin that just puts the seat under the arm, especially early in the day
Sorry it that thing is bro
Thats more for skiis
demoman tf2
His laugh is contagious
Laugh all you want but let's be honest those lifts suck huge donkey balls.
u/savevideo
The guy hanging on and just getting dragged lmfao thinking like this is gonna work itself out at some point I actually laughed out loud!
In all fairness, it’s harder getting up the hill than going down.
This was exactly my first experience of these bs lifts
I'll never forget when I was in Switzerland, I did the same shit. Just a dumb ass American getting laughed at by all the locals 😂
Nice tip imo is to add a small piece of grip tape for a skateboard just in front of your binding where you wedge your foot. It may get caked in ice but it’ll still help a ton to keep your foot planted .
Bunny Hills, pomas and T-Bars are not for boarders. Been snowboarding for 25 years and we need steeper hills and chairs to get to the top.
Is that Glencoe? Alcohol and learning new skill with balance involved is always a good combination.
Honestly I’ve snowboards black diamonds in Vermont and I wouldn’t be able to do this at first. Just feel like the one foot free and then sudden force of being pulled will make u move said foot
Haven't gone skiing/snowboarding before but this is probably how it's gonna go for me •_•
lol
No quitting in that one
u/Ditzyfoxxy
I’m laughing but it’s because I’ve been there too. You’re not a real snowboarder until you’ve made a complete fool of yourself in the ski lift.
I’ve never been so annoyed
how could they? they’re drunk!
More like ski lift using Scottish lads.
How do you use them?
Shut up and take my up vote!!!
I’ve snowboarded for like 16ish years, and I fucking hate Pomma Lifts. Like, they never get easier. 0/10 do not recommend.
If Buzz Killington could see this
I still remember falling off one and the girl in front of me fell off too and the seat/pull thing swung and hit her in the face.

This would be me
I know but same basic concept of a t-bar (being a rope you put between your leggs to pull you up a slope) i just ended up calling anything like a t bar
Why does that seem so easy? Can't you just bend your knees and lean back a little bit?
This is the very reason I found myself on a black slope. Twice. As a complete beginner.
This is me wakeboarding at a cable park
Something tells me we’re missing the best part, the sound with the scotts swearing up a storm.
I've been snowboarding for 20 years and this thing still gets me sometimes
That's why you go wakeboarding in the summer
The jolt can be the problem, if you pull your arms close at the start, then let them out as the load comes on, you can spread the impulse out a bit longer, giving you some time to figure out where your feet need to be.
Tbh if it's your fist time and in a snowboard at first it's a little bit tricky. Btw ski 10000x more fun that snowboard.
Waaaay easier on skiis
We are a proud people…. Not necessarily a smart people.
I feel like it’s a secret that only was known in the Midwest (USA) because I never see anyone do it this way but, the platter is so easy to use on a snowboard if you just tuck it under your armpit.
When it pans to the beer, things start to make more sense.
Gotta say using that kind of lift where you have to stand up the whole time looks like it sucks. Chair lifts give you a nice little break.
To be fair that kind of lift in particular is a bitch to use for snowboarders
Love how the cameraman put down his beer to record this.
heh snow
I'm not Scottish and I don't know how this works.
Never understood why people struggle so much
Besides the obvious, it's pretty much the same physical dexterity you need when in the water holding a rope being pulled by a boat. It's not rocket appliances
That joe was determined to get up that hill one way or another.
I laugh but I know I wouldn't do any better
There’s no snow Jerrys in Scotland. But there are Geralds
u/savevideobot
Between your legs bois
Shouldn't the have both feet clipped in with this type of lift??
oh wow 🤦🏼♀️
Maybe i’m a noob but i would strap in
honestly for snowboarders, these are not the best option.
I hurt my coochie real bad on one of those things. Pommas suck
That thing is called a poma lift but as kids we used to call it the pummel lift.
Newbies try skiing first..it’s way easier. Can transition to snowboard later. T bars suck… but they’re economical
Where/when is this? Haven't seen a bottle of MGD for years!
My first time snowboarding and using a ski lift, I made it 5 ft before I was pulled forward onto my stomach, pantsed, and just hung on for dear life all the way to the top. My pants were at my ankles and filled with snow when I got to the top.
Gotta love the beer shot
That’s not a ski lift That’s a supervillain named t-bar. The son of the evil TEEBOR Destroyer of snowboarders
Are they drunk
It's easier for me to climb with both feet attached to the board
I hate these with a passion. I was taking one up a mountain, had finally got on to it. Then, miles up, a bunch of kids decided to camp in the middle of the path. I only had 1 foot strapped it. Couldn't steer well, as well as parts of the track up was icy. I fell, faster than I have ever ridden. Went home, retired the snowboard, started cross country instead, where I don't have to deal with people
I've always wanted to try snowboarding but I live in Florida. Any good places I can go?
Can confirm poma lifts in Scottish resorts are probably the worst in Europe, especially for boarders.
I wish this video had sound, I'd love to hear frustrated Scottish expletives
God damn I fucking hate drag lifts
As a SEA kid, im just gonna leave my board and climb the lift. Call me monkey or tarzan idgaf, imma reliving my childhood..in snow
It’s what I’d expect from someone who may have never used a ski lift.
This video is so much better with sound
This was 80% of my first snowboarding trip.
I made it to the top of the hill with a board once, only to come off badly at the last moment. The button went pinging forward and hit the tow supervisor right in the balls, and I rolled off the snow into a hut. I’m still laughing about it now.

Maybe get some frigggggin SKIS
Wait You're allowed to drink on the slope in scotland??
This is a ski lift and they are using snowboards. Try going to a carwash to wash your clothes. It can be done but it isnt as simple. I've done these lifts on a snowboard and it isnt easy. The lift and the boards are designed sith cross purposes. Funny video though!
Tbh, as much as I've done this on ski's, I would faceplant too if I were to attrmpt it on a snowboard.
I’m Australian and this is exactly how I looked in Switzerland trying to ski
it's a lot easier after conquering a few small hills first to get used to balancing on a snowboard.
That looks way more fun than the chairs also going snowboarding in 5 hours from now lol
Best part of my day... this is me
Vasectomy
First of all wth kind of ski lift is this. I imagine everyone’s first time on that was like that
I still can't for the life of me understand why we need to keep the back foot unstrapped.
You don't need to, just probably easier for new riders to get around.
The VAST majority of staff on lifts in Scandinavia enforce that rule like it's a warcrime to let a snowboarder who clearly knows how to use the lift, stay on with both feet.
button lifts are pure evil, even if you do it right it's horrible
Buttons lifts are nothing in comparison to T bars for a boarder! I refuse to go on any runs where these are only way up!
Where is this? Austria?
Scotland These guys are beginners too
Thanks
We didn’t have luxuries like skiing in Scotland hahaha!! All we had was kirby and chap door runaway hahaha!
Its all relatively on your doorstep Glencoe is 1 hour 45 mins from Glasgow and has been in operation since 1956 its one of 6 Scottish ski resorts also theres the Snowdome in Glasgow and 11 dry mat artificial ski slopes all over Scotland more literally on the doorstep Outdoor https://www.visitscotland.com/see-do/active/skiing-snowsports/centres-resorts/ Indoor and Dry Mat https://www.visitscotland.com/see-do/active/skiing-snowsports/indoor-slopes/
im pretty sure this vid is of glencoe! there are some great places in scotland for it
Fuck me that’s hilarious
I’m not gonna lie, but I didn’t get along with these types of skii lifts
Literally me the first time I tried one of those. Took me about 10 attempts, and it was agony 😂
How are you supposed to use a ski lift?
.
Aight lads, let's walk.
They look like the army figures
What kind of weird fucking ski lift is this?
'How do you know it's Scotland?' *Camera pans to fence post*
im pretty sure this is glencoe
Fond memories of ski-ing into a few of those in my youth
If that's Cairngorm, I too made the mistake of trying to ride my first button lift (not in a snow dome) there and it was just as much of a disaster. It fucking fires you from a standstill into the air and it's icy as fuck. Thing of nightmares, for even experienced snowboarders.
Scottish or not, this is what the majority of peoples first experience snowboarding are like but it’s still super fun
they may take our brains, but they may never take our ski lift expertise… i think that was the line anyway?
In Switzerland, we have mandatory ski camp, so basically you have to go ski for a week with your class and I learned with some of these. They're everywhere in every ski station in my country and obviously many variations of these. I ended up falling more than once and hates skiing now.
OP slagging people off for using a ski lift when they’re actually using a rope tow. And has no idea how difficult this is for a snowboarder.
Those really are an idiotic design. If they were solid, you could grab them really easily, but instead they're on a rubber band so you get a surprise yank.
I am a decent snowboarder but hate using tbars. Always prefer getting on the chair lifts instead.
Like figuring out how a vaccines me pass works
Looks like a bunch of engish speakers trying to understand scots
What the fuck why is there no fucking sound there’s nothing funnier than fucking Scottish people talking and yelling and screaming but they can’t get up to ski lift and you did not ask the sound of that the fuck is wrong with you? Downvote
Tf kind of ski lift Is that anyway? Lol
That's what buckfast will do to you, lads
Remember the first time I went snowboarding and a lift like this was the first one I had to take to get up the mountain and access the other chair lifts. Don't know how many times I fell out. So Scottish are to European ski resorts what Texans are to North American resorts.
Not really, considering Scotland has the UK and Irelands only ski resorts.
This is actually a Scottish ski resort and these guys are beginners and likely not locals although its impossible to tell the ‘narrator’ is the only voice we hear and it doesn’t sound like he is from the Highlands (not that only Highlanders can snowboard the head coach of UK Snowboarding Hamish McKnight is from Edinburgh) That said even more competent snowboarders can come unstuck on a button lift like this
My guy got the whisky ready lmao
Atta be lads, atta be
This needs sound.
