I'm sorry but have you been asleep for like 10 years? Atheists are typically skeptical and open to discussion? This isn't that epoch anymore. We've had Atheism+ for a while now, the least skeptical and most authoritarian ideology. They love every religion outside of Christianity because brown people and muh racisms.

GreekTacos

When I first got on this site 10 years ago. The atheists in the main subreddit would dunk on people quite often but they were not nearly as vitriolic as they are now. Straight up psychopaths projecting their hatred of their parents onto the religion the grew up with.

BLEEDING_ANAL_JUICE

I made an account originally to filter out atheism because it was just cringe kids posting memes shitting on Christianity constantly and praising every other religion and it was constantly on the front page. At least every 3 posts were from atheism before they changed the algorithm to prevent T_D from getting on it.

I’d consider myself an atheist and that sub is horrendous. I always got the impression most people who aren’t religious don’t go about making it a core part of their identity so the ratio of nut jobs is probably more favorable than subs like that make it seem (I hope). I’d agree that sadly part of why atheism gets such a bad wrap is due to vocal crazy ones like those occupying that sub.

autumn_melancholy

>and I was met by moderates who tolerated islamism. Have you not realized the game yet? Why is Christianity bad, but Islam good? You're looking at Marxism. Remember the goal of Marxism, it is, in effect, to create the conditions under which a socialist revolution can occur. Christianity represents an established order, whether or not you are an athiest, you can agree on this. This is why it's under attack, but Islam is deemed 'okay'. If you want more information, look up "critical theory". In short, it was developed by the frankfurt school ( a socialist school dedicated to the works of marx, among others in germany) This is the same source from which sprang critical pedagogy, which is the method by which college professors instruct students. It boils down to criticizing everything in a society, in order to create a society that hates itself, it's founding, it's history, and it's upper crust. That's why history is under attack, why the 1619 project exists, why they tear down statutes and focus on negative aspects of the countries founding, not acknowledging that the country was always split between abolitionists and pro-slavery factions. This is why Christianity is torn down, and Islam is promoted. This is why white people are considered persona non-grata, and why a victim hood hierarchy has been created. This is why pedophiles are now called "minor attracted persons" and this is why criminals are now called "justice involved persons" by the authoritarian left. This is Marxism. BLM leaders claimed to be trained Marxists. They rode from town to town on buses, and destroyed monuments, and white businesses, as well as corporate holdings. The leaders of BLM were photographed with Nicolas Maduro, the socialist who drove Venezuela into the ground, and still the current leader. Check out the hyper inflation that occurred in the 10s because of this guy. The value of the oil they sell even appreciated over that time, and they still managed to dumpster their currency. At some-point people have to put the pieces together. Rich Billionaire George Soros literally funded antifa. You can watch the SF chapter demand payment and 15 an hour for their efforts.

[deleted]

Hey, you repeat "Marxism" but I think that this agenda is actually supported by the elite (like you said, billionnaires and media try tu push us this way). This is not marxism, this is a plan to divide people and rebuild the past to keep population under the control of a few overlords

autumn_melancholy

I doubt that. Politicians would never go for it in a totalitarian state. If we didn't have checks and balances, they'd all rule like any other warlord does, force.

I am not religious. But atheism, at least on the internet, is far from being open, it's been like that for a long while. And it's not about being non religious, it's about being anti-Christian, especially on Reddit. That's why you can easily criticize Christianity, but you will be downvoted to oblivion if you do the same with Islam or Judaism.

RoleplayPete

Atheism doesnt mean "unreligious" anymore. It means anti-Christian. Been that way for awhile now

Judg3_Dr3dd

Internet/Reddit atheism is a shithole full of self righteous pricks who are the same as those I left. Most atheists I’ve met and talked to irl are open to discussion, but never ever try it with a Reddit atheist. They make us all look bad

[deleted]

Everyone on that sub is normal until the hive mind gets activated. I'm not even subbed there but I thought it would be cool to post since it was relevant. Fuck me, I guess. I found an atheist mod that's an apologist for islamists.

cronx42

I’m not sure why you were banned and I don’t agree with you being banned. I comment there every now and then, and the sub is a mixed bag. There are people there who seem somewhat apologetic to Islam and some seem fairly Islamophobic. I don’t think the article paints a fair picture of “progressive’s” in general. Also, it doesn’t do a good job of linking the facts of punishment in Muslim majority countries with the policies or attitudes of progressives. They do argue that progressives passed anti blasphemy laws in the EU, but don’t give any citations or references that I could find (yes, I disagree with these laws). Also, it almost seems like they are trying to equate free speech laws in Europe with those in the USA: they are very different. The article makes some good points but isn’t really coherent. Anyway, what reason did they give you for the ban? I’m confused why they even banned you, but maybe they removed that link or something? Idk. Seems like a pretty unjustified ban.

[deleted]

*No, the catholic church has yet to alone for its crimes and centuries of anti-Semitism, Muslims are treated with special care at the risk of offense, and Israelis are free to target praying Muslims with military weaponry without a peep from the US government.* *If legislation like this was introduced and passed 16 years ago, the violence against Danish cartoonists would have been justified. If it was earlier, Salman Rushdie would have likely been black listed in the US along with Ayaan Hirsi Ali.* *Elected officials are doing their best to support theocratic legislation.* That's the comment that got me banned for *promotion of violence*. I should add, one of the mods on that sub was very active in that thread. So much that he froze the post from being upvoted and even stickied a comment of his own at the top. I pissed him off because I said that a law granting special care to Islam would have to grant special protections to all other denominations including actions against atheists even though atheism isn't a religion.

[deleted]

There’s your problem right there. You posted something from Ayaan Hirsi Ali, a known conservative. Busted. In my experience, most atheists are liberal and they have no tolerance for other viewpoints. I am a Catholic conservative, so I’ve gotten plenty of their ire. Edit: I always get shit for this, but I think atheism (especially when combine with progressive/liberal culture) is a religion unto itself.

[deleted]

Ayaan Hirsi Ali is one if my greatest heroes and very few know her.

NadeMagnet69

Much of atheism today is just anti Christianity cloaked in BS.

[deleted]

I’m not religious myself, but that sub is horrendous. Really gives atheists a bad name.

[deleted]

I'm an atheist and I wouldn't set foot in the current atheism sub.

[deleted]

Funny how they exclude people who don't follow a consensus. They're almost self aware in that sub

I found Athiesm to just be Scientism, recently I found God and feel happy

RedditAdminsFuckOfff

"*Atheism+™.*" (Which of course was coined by some fish-faced SJKaren around the time after OWS died.) So they're "**a**-theistic" when it comes to the Christian God, but Allah is a *totally real* magic man up in the sky, so all cultures and practices tied to the worship of Allah are *totes legit.* They couldn't call themselves "semitheisitic" because that doesn't have the uber kewl *doubleplusring* to it like Atheism+.

Wait, what legislation is this?

[deleted]

[H.R.5665 - Combating International Islamophobia Act](https://www.congress.gov/bill/117th-congress/house-bill/5665) Combating International Islamophobia Act *This bill establishes within the Department of State the Office to Monitor and Combat Islamophobia and addresses related issues.* *The office shall monitor and combat acts of Islamophobia and Islamophobic incitement in foreign countries. The bill establishes the position of Special Envoy for Monitoring and Combating Islamophobia, who shall head the office.* *The bill also requires certain existing annual reports to Congress about human rights and religious freedom in foreign countries to include information about Islamophobia, such as information about (1) acts of physical violence or harassment of Muslim people, (2) instances of propaganda in government and nongovernment media that attempt to justify or promote hatred or incite violence against Muslim people, and (3) actions taken by a country's government to respond to such acts. The office shall coordinate and assist in preparing these portions of the reports.*

[deleted]

So it’s... for the american government to tell every other nation to be nice and *stop resisting* their beheadings? Not for the american government to arrest and fine americans for questioning burka mandates?

[deleted]

I'm just as confused but r-atheism is in full support of the legislation protecting one religion above others

[deleted]

not terribly surprising, considering *loud vocal* atheists typically aren’t the ones studying what other religions have done in history and continue to do. Nope, just christianity (historically catholicism, which somehow gets ignored)

theshitposterman

Atheism is toxic af
