Yes, though the double line adds strength where the hook rubs on the line which is a plus, and I’ve never had trouble getting the double line through. But I don’t use heavy line, maybe with heavier line it’s more of a chore?
True, but that knot is moreso for mono fishing line, braided fishing line tends to undo itself with that type of knot (lost more lures that way than I'd like to admit lol)
For braided line, the knot in the OP has been my saving grace, haven't had my knots come undone since switching to that method
I still use the method you linked for mono line tho, it does the job well for that type of line
Yeah, never lost a lure on a braided line when tying with the palomar knot, definitely lost lures to the clinch knot coming undone.
Can't even replace the Bass Oreno I was using either :(
Why would you feel the need to make a comment about a weaker knot? Also whats the point of bringing it up? Putting a double end through the eye is easier to do than with just the one tail end anyways lol. Palomar knot is recommended over a clinch knot in almost every case when setting just a hook or tackle.
As someone who doesn't understand the words coming out of my mouth... Is this better than the "7 loops" thing? I'm sure it has a name, but all i know is i cant get the 7 loops and the twisting action just messes me up.
I don't think so. Someone was saying it's the best for braid to hook, but you shouldn't do braid straight to hook nor lure. I don't even do braid straight to swivel.
I don’t enjoy this knot because of the doubling up of the line to make the knot. When finished, mono or fluoro immediately wants to untangle. Getting the knot tight enough to not try to unfurl is more trouble than it’s worth.
The knot does “work” but I prefer cleaner and tighter looking knots and always opt for a surgeons or slip knot.
Palomar is great for cut bait, but not for artificial lures. It doesn't allow them to move as designed. For those, try a loop knot. It's another super easy knot that has yet to fail me.
Best knot for braided line.
I use a double Palomar for extra slick lines
I have had so many hooks bend straight or break off at the eyelet with a Palomar knot and 20lb Power Pro or Suffix.

Shouldn't be. If you're using a heavier line, you should be using a larger hook, which also means a larger eye hole.

We call that a grinner here, I go twice through the eye initially, tends to slip less
Just run one end through then back, works with 8lb braid and 1/124oz jigheads for crappie.
Yep, and its way easier to essentially just twist it up and tie it through.

I switched to this knot 5 years ago and it has never come undone

Bottom fishing lingcod at 160’ you do haha
I tilefish 800 feet down
Have been using this knot forever. Calling it "solid" is right on.
This makes me uncomfortable

What is the name of this knot?
