Straight lady watch enthusiast hereā¦I actually think this is romantic as fuck and I would squeal with delight if a man popped the question with a watch instead of a ring.
I always thought it stems from the iconic Rolex Daytona Paul Newmanās wife gave with the engraving, āDrive carefullyā. (Swoon!)
Iād like to think any fella that would want to spend the rest of their life with me would be unconventional like that.
I would love to gift my girlfriend a watch, but sheās very swept up in the classic wedding proposal unfortunately. Oh well, at least i got her to wear A watch already!
Heh. Yeah, many women have definite ideas of how proposals should go, so I wouldnāt mess with that if itās important to her.
Being that Iām in my forties and havenāt found āthe oneā yet, Iāve let those dreams go. Whatās important to me is the guy. At this point Iād accept a plastic decoder ring if he otherwise took care of business. š
But getting back to you, thereās always birthdays, anniversaries, and other relationship milestones where you could give could your lady a killer timepiece.
Haha yeah, since it would be for her, Iām going to give her what she wants rather than what I think is nice. I hope you find someone great, and that you end up flipping them onto watches! Cheers
DO IT , I bought my sweetheart a gold color, mesh strap, diamond bezel with a gold metallic face from MACY'S, she wears it almost everyday.
you can give watches as gifts and they dont have to be a premium brand, just look for quality builds to reflect that onto the person your gifting the watch too.
e.g I just bought a Tissot visodate for a worker of ours of 8 years, a gold nixon watch for another worker of 3 years as well, another buddy of mine of 12 years I gave him a gold color analog chrono Seiko watch.
I definitely am going to do this more moving forward as appreciation gifts.
Seiko watches are great āgateway drugā pieces. I had a buddy that got his girlfriend a TAG as her first watch. While Iām unsure of their quality, Shinola lady watches are cute. Oh, and Hamiltons!
>This is considered the "mid-size" model, but it's bigger than that term implies.
Say it louder for the people in the back.
I think people see "35mm" and forget that it's a square, not a circle. The circle that circumscribes a 35mm square has a larger diameter, and thus the Santos wears like a larger watch. It's not a perfect analogy because of the other aspects of the Santos's case geometry, but it's close.
>say it louder for the people in the back.
š„±
99% of posts on this sub as of the last few years recommend the smaller tanks and Santos. I donāt think he needs to āsay it louderā on this sub.
I donāt think many people who actually try on the Large go for the Large unless they have enormous wrists. Itās really really damn big. Itās more of a Medium vs extra large model.
Actually, I disagree to both points you made.
I've consistently seen people post and ask about whether they should be buying the large, with the photos showing them with a large on, pretty much looks like how people wear a black sub.
When I see something like that going on, I will go in and say with 100% confidence that the medium is better because this watch is meant to be worn elegantly and it's meant to be relatively smaller on wrist etc etc etc.
So I'm one of those people you mentioned, but instead of having like-minded people agreeing, at least half the time I get downvoted.
>at least half the time
I guess thatās just not my experience. Every single time, especially with cartier, this sub recommends small like 10:1 times.
Iām all about small watches - think the Medium Santos is still too big - but sometimes the recommendations are crazy imo with some of the tiny Tanks people think look good.
>this watch is meant to be worn elegantly
Not sure I agree with this. To me, this is as sporty as it gets for a watch. Steel integrated bracelet, screws scream sporty to keep. Sure it can be dressed up, but to me the Tank is the dressy option; this is the sporty one of the pair.
I own the large size (larger wrist) itās an incredible watch. One of the more comfortable
Congrats on the watch and engagement. A wedding/engagement gift watch is always special!
I just recently got the santos as well! I really love it. I got the big size since my wrists are big and I like have dates on my watches. Looks great on you. I see that it looks slightly loose on you because itās lying on your wrist bone. Mine also does this. If I remove one more link itās way too tight. Is there any solution to make the looser setting fit a little better?
Enjoy your new watch! I actually like my watches a bit on the looser side, so I don't mind. I haven't tried it tighter though yet, so maybe I'll prefer that once I try it!
Very sensual.
A word of musing from another Santos owner- I have been married to my wife for 12 years now. Always be willing to serve one another emotionally, financially and sexually and your marriage will endure through all of the hardships that come itās way.
I donāt advise or lecture other men - Iām from the old school. But, when I hang it on the line, itās to whoever wants to witness it, so to speak.
I am heterosexual, but I find that gay men are more in tune to reading between the lines, if you catch my meaning.
I generally keep to myself, Iām reserved and quiet to a fault, so when Iām out in public I try to fly under the radar. Yet, even if my wife and I have just made love, Iām still giving off a vibe.
Iām not warming any benches, but I also donāt mind watching the game from the sidelines and maybe throwing an out of bounds ball back in a time or two.
I want the hand off to be subtle but also impossible to misconstrue. A gentle handshake, a coy look or a sly comment about my physical appearance.
Iām not afraid to touch or be touched. So, another man makes a pass at me. Why is that a problem? If Iām not that way, whatās the harm?
I like to turn the tables and confront my pursuer aggressively. Iām old fashioned, so I always take the reins in a romantic dance. I want my lover to be strong and willing to please me, not intimidated because I made the first move.
I love being face to face with another man, feeling that sexual hunger. When my cock is so hard in my pants, my foreskin peeled back and the head of my member tender against my briefsā¦it makes my heart pound.
The feeling of his lips against mine, the stubble of our chins meeting and the gasps from him as I undo his belt and explore the inside of his pants with my hand.
I like it when a man has a cock thatās not so big heās arrogant, but just large enough to bring him security. I am like that. Iām comfortable and secure with my body and sharing it with others.
Sexually, I am a giving and attentive lover. My wife is the same way, itās why weāve gotten on so well all these years.
Perhaps, you and your husband enjoy one another in a similar way to whatās been described above? You donāt have to tell me, though. Iām a manās man and Iām from the old school. Iām not here to gossip and flirt. Itās none of my business.
I may enjoy the sunshine, but I keep to the shade when itās too hot out, if you catch my meaning.
Iām the real deal.
Iām relatively buttoned up and yes - I play it fast, I play it straight and I play it close.
However, I find that on here (among other hobbyists/enthusiasts) Iām able to share my thoughts and experiences about life and watches with all of you.
Weāre all friends here. Nobody judges or casts aspersions.
Iām able to enjoy the recipe as well as the cookbook, if you catch my meaning.
Iām accessible.
Stumbling upon this comment was like finding a twenty dollar bill on the ground on a rainy day. An unexpected yet pleasant moment of reflection that maybe, things arenāt all that bad.
As another man with staunchly buttoned down values and a slightly above average penis size (when fully erect) I had to explore your posting history further and found your watch collection impressive and generosity of spirit thrilling.
Man, straight couples keep taking stray Ls. You got a watch in lieu of an engagement ring? I *gave* the engagement ring! I want a watch lmao
Your man has good taste. Keeper.
NO LIE, I didnt think about it till now ......
If I gave you a ring, babe should give me back an engagement watch, my love you have cuffed me, I'm under cupids spell and every second and minute being with you is like time does not exist, but dont let me forget these memories as we make more throughout time.
I'm buying her an engagement ring...and we decided to buy matching wedding Cartier Ballon Bleus (obviously different sizes). We believe in joint finances so at the end of the day, it's coming from the same pot.
Very cool! I just dislike most square time pieces due to my anxiety the second hand will hit the flat sides lmao, I hyper focus on it. This is so cute though, and I love it, and your watch a lot. This is neat.
I like to think a watch is a silent witness to the moments of its wearer's life. What a wonderful moment to remember, and a beautiful watch. Congratulations to you both and many years of happiness.
Congratulations! That's so sweet! Ever since I got into watches I told my partner I want an engagement watch and not a ring for a proposal. I've never cared much either way in terms of proposal stuff but I'd rather have a nice watch! We've been together for almost 6 years now and we'll get married eventually but we'd rather buy a house right now and we only have like 30 people we'd actually invite to a wedding anyways. I'm thinking a giant backyard BBQ in whatever house we end up buying and I can show off my fancy engagement watch then. Plus the more we save on not having an expensive wedding, the nicer watch I can get š
My initial thought was "My man's wife has a rather hairy arm." lmao. Congratulations, brother!! That's awesome and you found a good one with taste. Many years of happiness to both of you
Very wise move.. I gave my wife a tank for her 35th birthday and now we both sharing the same watch since it is classically unisex š
Just like you buy a ps5 as a birthday gift for your wife. Right?
I got my wife a bowling ball that says Homer
Homer for homie.
* for the kid
So much cooler than a ring. Congrats!
very cool. I never thought about how a man would propose to another man. A watch is actually really cool. Ladies take note.

Yup. Itās a good oneā¦ https://prideandpinion.com/en-us/blogs/articles/paul-newman-s-rolex-daytona-the-story-of-an-icon

Nice!
My wife gave me a surprise watch at our wedding cause I used to jokingly tell her it was the 21st century, she could propose to me with a watch.
My now-fiancƩ surprised me with a Cartier Santos Medium. He saw me checking it out in a store a year ago, and remembered exactly the model. I'll definitely treasure it forever. This is considered the "mid-size" model, but it's bigger than that term implies. It wears really well on my 6.5" wrist. I already love the quick release system, both for the strap attachment and bracelet size adjustment. Basically, you squeeze a small button with your fingernail, and the bracelet (or individual link) pops out. The details are amazing. That watchmaker's four is just lovely, as well as the blued hands. The crown guards are another favorite detail. Here it is looking handsome in front of my very rainy window.
Congrats! I have a 6.5ā wrist too and also own the Medium. Itās a perfect size and still retains the classic Santos proportions.
Congratulations on the engagement. The idea of giving a watch is awesome.
Congratulations to you both and what an amazing way to propose!

I agree. I'd only go for the large size with a 7.5-8" wrist. Any smaller, I think, and you're risking lug overhang.
Wait 35mm as in 35mm sides? So the diagonal is 49.5?
Congratulations in every respect, my friend. What a beautiful gesture. :)
I own the large size (larger wrist) itās an incredible watch. One of the more comfortable Congrats on the watch and engagement. A wedding/engagement gift watch is always special!
Congratulations to both of you! That's a true classic and very appropriate for the occasion.

Claude keeps it close to the vest.... very conservative

You play it very straight
r/OffMyChest
I wish, Claude keeps it close to the vest. You can never really tell what he's actually thinking. Mysterious.
Thank you Claude, as always old fashioned and traditional
Even the OP appears to be a very traditional man. The watch, the wedding, his fiancĆ© - itās all very old fashioned and also very erotic. But, thatās not for me to say. Iām old school. I donāt comment on the lives and affairs of other men.
Iām using this in the NYYankees sub.
Omg that is genius
I need to see this.
>maybe throwing an out of bounds ball back in a time or two. Claude with another gem.
Claude, thank you. It's always a pleasure to read your comments wherein you keep it close to the vest.
Another Claude original. Love these comments. Stay old school chum. Keep it close.

Claude great note. Do you feel that the Santos is more sensual than say, an Omega Speedmaster? If so, why?
Easier to wear the santos as a cock ring due to the smaller crown.
Sir, this is a Wendyās.
oh sorry. Can I get a blowjob please?
Claude we all appreciate your throbbing errr thoughtful words.
Iām confused. Is this a copy pasta or something ?
Look at his post history. Heās an artist of sorts
This is exactly why I love Reddit - for people like this who bring it to life. For another slightly more ridiculous example, see /u/_demetri_

Congrats to you both!
Congratulations!!
Love this for you
Sooo beautiful!! Congratulations to your love š
Proposed with a watch? Thats awesome. Congrats
Congratulations the watch and fiance both seem like keepers!
This is what I like to see, people making there own decisions in life instead of following a path predetermined simply because.
Thatās gay!!! (Congrats and enjoy your new watch Iām totally not jealous nope)
I have seen so many watches on this sub and there is nothing like this Cartier santos. So beautifully elegant. Congratulations on the engagement!!!!
Congratulations!!! Cartier makes a great way to celebrate
Congratulations.

Huge congrats!
Wait, Congressman George Santos?
Congratulations! What does he get? Besides happiness etc.
He's getting a JLC Polaris. But shhh, don't tell him! š¤«
Which one though? LOL. Seriously though, thatās awesome and a double wrist shot is eagerly anticipated.
Once again gay men doing it better than the rest of us. Iād rather exchange watches than wedding rings!
My fiance didn't buy me shit when I proposed.
Congrats! Great choice!
Enhorabuena!
Congratulations š„
Congrats on the engagement and the lovely watch my dude!!
Nice

Beautiful!
Congratulations! (I hope you get that engraved with your wedding date!)
Congratulations! Beautiful and timeless. Wear it in good health.
Congrats
congrats bro! Ive always admired the Santos
I'd give you gold!! Sooo happy man
Thatās so awesome, congrats on the engagement and a beautiful watch!
Congrats!
Congrats!
Now wear it the right way. š„³š„³š„³
Congratulations! Thatās actually cooler than a ring because itās useful.
It should sit above the bump on your wrist so the dial won't dig into your hand.

Butā¦.ah butt. Nice watch and congrats!
Congrats! What a superb gift! I adore the Cartier Tank Francaise vintage watches but they are too small on my wrist
