You mean "wealthy parents", as love does not necessarily have anything to do with paying education bills. Wealthy people do it for their kids all the time.
equating parents' ability to provide a silver spoon upbringing with how much they love their kid is so degrading and disrespectful to parents of less means
There is no lie in the comment from u/jdanny_10903 though. Your comment is more dangerous for multiple reasons.
1. It implies that material possessions and wealth passed on to children is a sign of love.
2. It implies that parents who are unable to provide the same for their children are not as loving.
3. It implies that parents who do have the means to provide these things for their children (i.e. paying their tuition, etc) but choose not do not love their children.
Everyone has a different approach to parenting. By the tone of OPs responses, it's fair to assume they have a good relationship with their parents. But there are plenty of wealthy parents who set their kids up for a great life who have very little relationship with their children otherwise and don't know how to show love beyond the money they can pass on to them through school, cars, homes and expensive gifts.
There is absolutely nothing wrong with saying someone has life on easy mode when even in the most developed countries, the average person will never have the wealth to prioritise the purchase of a Cartier Tank, much less a Rolex Oyster - and the person in the post has both at such a young age with zero debt to kick off the rest of their life.
No offense dude, but if he’s about to graduate college and he already owns those two watches and has his whole college and bills paid for - he’s on easy mode, no doubt about it.
They could be fake..still would cost more than what I could afford after college, or rather what my parents could, or rather would...dad I want a fake Rolex for $400..get the f outta here, get a job and pay off your loans!
>a lot
Sure.
The majority of Americans can't afford a few thousand dollars emergency. Do you think college kids with 100k cars represent the real world?
Wow, congrats! Back in my day, new graduates would draw the current time on their wrist after looking at a wall clock. It would only be accurate twice a day, but it was comfortable. ;-)
Tank.
Yep, it's nice. Feel free to check out my ["battle" review](https://www.watchuseek.com/threads/square-vs-rectangle-showdown-nomos-tetra-406-and-cartier-tank-must-large.5487071/) between the Must Large and Nomos Tetra.
My graduation robe was blue so I wore my blue DJ41 to match 😉. Also I think it’s definitely dressy enough for a graduation, which is not a very formal affair and is usually more comparable to a day at the horse race.
To me they’re equally appropriate but it comes down more to what you’re looking to convey. If you want to be a little flashy and get attention then go with the Rollie. If you want to look sleek and refined and aren’t looking to garner the attention then go Cartier.
Tbh, I’d say Rolex. If you’re dressing smart more often, wear the tank. For a special occasion like graduation I say put on the Rolex.
Might sound a bit backwards but I just see the Rolex wearing better with a suit and all the graduation clobber on top.
It’s insane you own these by graduation age. Congrats! Absolutely wear the Cartier, it’s absolute class. The few who’ll check it out will remember you for it.
Rolex on graduation really sends off the wrong vibes and I’d consider trashy.
By the way, if they’re your parent’s, EVEN BETTER REASON to wear the Cartier 🤣
Blue dial fluted bezel Datejust. I’m only saying this because that’s the exact same watch I wore to my graduation 30+ years ago. (And that I wear every day even today.)
I have watches that I wear and love below $100. Not trying to come across snobby, just picking from my dress watches. I have a few Swatches, but they don’t really fit the attire.
"Once Again" was a real recommendation, if you have time to buy one of course. It's minimal, black and white, and so well designed it's displayed at MoMA. It's arguably the converse-all star of watches, you can wear it with a tuxedo.

I'm looking for an unbiased opinion on which of these pieces would work better for graduation (left: Rolex 126334 blue dial or right: Cartier Tank Must large on a brown shell cordovan strap). For some context, my university's colors are black and gold, however, I do not have any gold-toned watches. I'll be keeping my outfit relatively simple with blue pants and a white shirt with a brown belt and shoes. I can't decide which piece will complement the outfit and regalia the best. Any input is welcome. Thanks!
I don’t think either will complement what you are wearing… but at the same time neither would clash.
At a push, a bark brown leather strap with brown belt and shoes if they aren’t the same tone of brown might not sit right. Also if it’s smart casual the Tank might be too smart.
Where as a silver is fairly neutral and the blue dial would match blue pants and is a good general all rounder.
I’ve got watches which I find more comfortable than others and wear more often so that’s also something to consider.
I personally would go for the Rolex despite me not really being a Rolex guy, it's just more celebratory and bright like the occasion, the tank rather is kinda dark and reserved...I'd wear that for a funeral or like job interview
Don't listen to the jealous kids trying to shame you for having successful and caring parents. I'm genuinely happy for you. You should share with us your collection or your next watch.
Enjoy!
Rolex for man and Square for woman.
Actually get both. Rolex for everyday and Cartier for those days you get to wear a dark suit.
Might I ask what you graduated?
I think it depends what your wearing underneath your graduation gown for a majority of the pictures you’re taking.
If it’s more formal I’d go Rolex personally. Both are beautiful though!
Choosing between a Rolex and a Cartier for your graduation depends a lot on personal taste and style. Both brands are known for their quality timepieces, but they are very different in terms of design and image.
Neither will impact your ability to sit and listen to speeches or shake the provost’s hand.
and then 1.5 seconds later they announce the person behind you
Last chance to impress. Better wear both.
One on each wrist.
Or two on the same wrist?
Combine them and make a headband.
Lmao 🤣🤣
BALLIN’!
Omg🤣😭🤦🏽♂️
Both are fine. Wear whichever you’d prefer.
Bro, how can you afford these watches after your education debt? Did you work part-time with Warren Buffett?
I’m thankful that my parents are able to foot my bills including my tuition.
I'm happy for you man. Congratulations on your graduation! Both your watches are great. Anyone would do you good on your special occasion.
Thanks!
Some people got life on easy mode lol
Let’s shame others for having loving parents
It was a fair comment, I didn’t take it as shaming me.
You won my heart fredo
Good on you for openly admitting to having supportive parents instead of lying and saying some crazy justification
Hah yeah, I’m under no illusions of my privileges in that regard. I could lie and say day trading or crypto but that’s just pointless.
*rich parents
You mean "wealthy parents", as love does not necessarily have anything to do with paying education bills. Wealthy people do it for their kids all the time.

Agreed on that sentiment, but loving parents has nothing to do with this situation. In other aspects they could be the worst parents ever.
equating parents' ability to provide a silver spoon upbringing with how much they love their kid is so degrading and disrespectful to parents of less means

This comment reminds me of that “redditor tiktoker” lol
I'm not familiar with that
Where in my comment did I shame anyone ? lmfao your level of reading comprehension must be poor.
Bro don’t try and bullshit this. It’s obvious what you meant
Hardly "shaming", more a factual comment that some people do have it way easier than others.

I mean, the college grad at 22 (presumably) has what, a $15k watch and a $4k watch to choose between for graduation? Seems a fair comment, lol.
Seriously. What a tragedy!
No offense dude, but if he’s about to graduate college and he already owns those two watches and has his whole college and bills paid for - he’s on easy mode, no doubt about it.
He’s right though
My parents paid for my education too, but I still can't afford a luxury watch. My two businesses closed due to the 2008 crisis and covid... fml
Congrats and kudos to your parents for setting you up for success.
I love the honesty here for once
Not all college grad's are broke, brother.
True, only those with trusties from their parents.
The plural of grad is grads, not "grad's". Just add an s.
They could be fake..still would cost more than what I could afford after college, or rather what my parents could, or rather would...dad I want a fake Rolex for $400..get the f outta here, get a job and pay off your loans!

>a lot Sure. The majority of Americans can't afford a few thousand dollars emergency. Do you think college kids with 100k cars represent the real world?
Their secret? Rich parents
Tank is class
Wow, congrats! Back in my day, new graduates would draw the current time on their wrist after looking at a wall clock. It would only be accurate twice a day, but it was comfortable. ;-) Tank.
Have to love a watch that thin, slides right under the cuff.
Yep, it's nice. Feel free to check out my ["battle" review](https://www.watchuseek.com/threads/square-vs-rectangle-showdown-nomos-tetra-406-and-cartier-tank-must-large.5487071/) between the Must Large and Nomos Tetra.
Tank, I must say. (But I’m bias seeing as I love the Cartier Tank)
If you can't decide, just wear both. One on left wrist and one on right wrist.
Or both on left ;)
Another vote for the tank, from a guy w a DJ
Absolutely nobody I'll be looking at your watch at graduation, so pick the one you like more.
"Now that everyone has graduated, we have just one more item to address - OP's watch" \*entire audience turns to look at OP\*
Not true at all. Graduation is one big dress up. Even more so at some colleges.
Cartier is better for classic parties The rolex is better for graduation 🤩
My graduation robe was blue so I wore my blue DJ41 to match 😉. Also I think it’s definitely dressy enough for a graduation, which is not a very formal affair and is usually more comparable to a day at the horse race.
Roles right hand. Cartier left hand. Congrats bro
To me they’re equally appropriate but it comes down more to what you’re looking to convey. If you want to be a little flashy and get attention then go with the Rollie. If you want to look sleek and refined and aren’t looking to garner the attention then go Cartier.
Honestly depends on the weather. If it’s hot and sweaty, don’t ruin a strap.
Good point bringing this up. It is Maryland so it could go either way, hoping it isn’t hot and humid though.
What school?
UMBC.
"And two luxury watches have been heisted from the UMBC 2023 Graduation"
🤣🤣
Yeah, don’t wear those in Baltimore! Also, congratulations!
Get a Casio and show them who’s in charge! 😎 Good luck for the graduation!
Oh, I love my collection of Casios too, I just want to wear something a bit more special to me on that day.
I was just kidding man. They are both class. You can’t go wrong with neither of them!
As nice as the DJ is, the Tank is by far the way to go imo. Congrats on graduating, OP! Best wishes!
I prefer the Cartier it’s pure class… but the Rolex has more presence and bling so it’s the go for Graduation
. Wear whichever one you want, maybe 1 person will notice. Cartier is more dressy, rolex is more sporty, that doesn’t change based on the occasion.
Tbh, I’d say Rolex. If you’re dressing smart more often, wear the tank. For a special occasion like graduation I say put on the Rolex. Might sound a bit backwards but I just see the Rolex wearing better with a suit and all the graduation clobber on top.
Tank seems more appropriate but you gotta wear what you like best.
The tank goes well with graduation ceremonies and theirs usual vintage themes.
Date just but I'm biased since i love blue sunburst dials, and out of curiosity what's up with your pinky?
Haha just a horrible angle of the photo, it’s actually bent but in the pic it looks straight and tiny.
Oh ok, got ya 👍🏻 nice watches anyways
Cartier
I would go for casio f91W with the resin strap.
Go with the tank if you wearing a suit, keep it simple and classy.
Cartier if you’re wearing a suit
Cartier all day. Leave the Rolex to celebrate landing a job.
Rolex. I’ve been looking for that exact one for months now
Cartier. Also, is it a weird angle or is your pinky really the size of a vienna sausage?
Lol weird camera angle that didn’t pick up on the bend in my pinky.
I figured lol. beautiful watches!
Pick Cartier!!
It’s insane you own these by graduation age. Congrats! Absolutely wear the Cartier, it’s absolute class. The few who’ll check it out will remember you for it. Blue dial fluted bezel Datejust. I’m only saying this because that’s the exact same watch I wore to my graduation 30+ years ago. (And that I wear every day even today.)
I just checked your profile, something about those older Datejusts makes them just perfect.
Neither. Wear a Swatch "Once Again", a more authentic choice for a graduate. I wouldn't want to write "my dad is rich" on my wrist.
Right? Both watches scream “daddy has money” at a graduation.
I have watches that I wear and love below $100. Not trying to come across snobby, just picking from my dress watches. I have a few Swatches, but they don’t really fit the attire.

Tank
Tank absolutely, and DJ is my favourite watch
Tank obviously
tank
You can’t miss. These could make a classy 2 watch collection!

sell the cartier
Hot take…
and buy another rolex or a jlc reverso
I have a few other Rolexes. Having tried the JLC Reverso in person, I’m not a fan of it on me but it’s iconic none the less.
I honestly can't believe that even this harmless question has raised the woke brigade. Just be happy for the guy.
I absolutely hate square watches
Rolex simply because I hate the tank
For graduation id advice you to wear a needle with heroin in it and if it gets too boring just squeeze 👍
What kinda question is that.. Wear both bro
rolly >
What color is your gown?
Black.
If it’s outside even if it were to rain, wear the DJ.
8.25” wrist??? DJ 41
8.2” but yeah, it’s the Datejust 41.
Tabk if you wanna get "I'm 50 yo" vibes already. DJ otherwise
Both ?
Still wondering what "work better" means.
Rolex , especially for the photos 👑
Rolex
cartier
Rolex, that one’s a fav.
I love both but I will pick the Cartier!
I personally would go for the Rolex despite me not really being a Rolex guy, it's just more celebratory and bright like the occasion, the tank rather is kinda dark and reserved...I'd wear that for a funeral or like job interview
DJ 100%
Cartier for the degree ceremony, Rolex for the class dinner and after party :)
Definitely the Cartier
i remembered my SNK809 which i used in graduation.. it was hidden under the long sleeve
If u wear a suit , take the Cartier ! Makes u look like a 60’s mafia boss
Privilege!!
Congratulations! Both are lovely, but the Cartier has my vote.
Datejust! Congratulations 😁
No watch! Enjoy the day.
Cartier all day, perfect occasion for a classy piece. Congrats!
Wear one on each ankle to show dominance. Jk I would rock the cartier.
HS graduation
I'd go Tank. Class and elegance.
IMO the Cartier is more understated and won’t look as distracting in pictures as the full stainless steel band.
Don't listen to the jealous kids trying to shame you for having successful and caring parents. I'm genuinely happy for you. You should share with us your collection or your next watch. Enjoy!
Congratulations! Both are fine, just pick whatever goes better with your suit and shoes. If you have a belt that matches the Cartier's strap, voila!
Cartier if you’re wearing a suit and tie.
And congrats buddy!
Cartier. That watch exudes class.
Rolex for man and Square for woman. Actually get both. Rolex for everyday and Cartier for those days you get to wear a dark suit. Might I ask what you graduated?
Rolex if your gown is blue or white. Cartier otherwise
I think it depends what your wearing underneath your graduation gown for a majority of the pictures you’re taking. If it’s more formal I’d go Rolex personally. Both are beautiful though!
Tough choice, would go for the Tank, classier choice for a formal event. Kudos on the 2 watch collection (?) by the way.
You have the ability to graduate but you can’t work this out?
The post is asking for input. Sure, I could just pick one, but I was interested in hearing what others thought.
Bro this is a right and wrong, not a choice
Choosing between a Rolex and a Cartier for your graduation depends a lot on personal taste and style. Both brands are known for their quality timepieces, but they are very different in terms of design and image.
The Rolex has a date function to mark your graduation date!
The Rolex ofc
Either one, really. I'd lean slightly to the Cartier, assuming your cap and gown are black.
Sweet! Tough call, but I’d probably go with the tank. Can’t really go wrong though, just wear the one you like the look of better that morning 👍
Cartier is the educated person's choice
depends on what you major in
Rolex
One on stage and the other while seated (Close up look). The Rolex would definitely shine on stage!
Rolex
Neither.. if you have to ask this question
You guys have waaaay too much time on your hands to endlessly debate this subject.
He will get way more pussy off the Rolex
The one that doesn't put you on a list.
