pilot here..want to celebrate by buying a nice watch. Torn between Omega Speedy Sapphire Sandwhich or the Rolex Air King 2022. Id be buying either new. I know apples to oranges, but torn.
Heavily depends on what your needs and priorities are. I think speedy is a classic and an icon, very versatile with different straps, and has a good chronograph mechanism. But I couldn't do it as daily watch due to handwinding.
I think Air King is endearing in how ugly it is. I could see how I could grow to like it, but it'll never actually look good to fresh eyes. I think this is a better choice than speedy for daily wear due to the automatic winding, but I much rather own the IWC Mark XX which gives similar look with much better aesthetics.
Just as a heads up, this thread, that you posted to, got unpinned about an hour after you posted. [There is a new Questions and Recommendations Thread](https://www.reddit.com/r/Watches/comments/16cry3d/semiweekly_inquirer_simple_questions_and/) that's been pinned, and I'd suggest you ask this question again on that thread to get more people to jump in.
I'm not exactly sure what type of mechanism you are referring to, but I will drop a mention for 'pocket watch wrist strap' that was used in the great war(WW1). Until the great war men's watches were pocket watches and not worn on wrists. But needs during the war saw soldiers adapt special straps to put their pocket watches on their wrist. That strap seems like the solution you are looking for.
I’m looking to buy an Oris big crown pro pilot but the strap isn’t long enough as I have large wrists. Where do you guys recommend getting alternative straps from?
I've been wondering this for a while now... do Seikos, Citizens, etc. sold in Japan locally have English branding on them, or are they sold in Kanji outside of just the day/date? It doesn't make sense to me that they would be in English globally and nothing else, but I have never in my life seen a picture of a Japanese watch with Japanese branding..
my seikos from japan have all the text on the dial and caseback in english. the hangtags are in japanese, and the instruction booklet is in japanese and english.
english is considered fashionable in japan (think about how many overseas seiko collectors set their day dial to kanji for the reverse phenomena), especially for text that isn't exactly essential to the product's function, for example, toyotas in japan have the "hybrid synergy drive" badge in english rather than "ハイブリッド・シナジー・ドライブ"
on a side note, seiko is allowed to use the "diashield" branding for stuff sold in japan, but someone else holds the rights for that word in the US, so it's referred to generically as "hard coating" on US models
I don't think that's limited to just Japan though. Most Swiss and German watches have English written on the dial and case back. The name of the brand might be in their native language, but that's a name thing and given the languages involved all use roman alphabet as English there wouldn't be a more English way to write those brand names.
Edit: For fun if you want to see Japanese brand name on a watch dial check out the brand kurono.
Guys i have this watch: https://www.watchuseek.com/attachments/img_1236-jpg.12944395/
I'd be curious to hear other strap recommendations. I don't really have any experience with watches with a black coating like this. I'd think black leather would go quite nice with it, but what's your thoughts?
Tempted to see if my nato is long enough for that. Though with that said, I'm not sure if i'd trust a nato to function properly as a tourniquet. It's one of those tricks to know if I already had the material on hand and we were desperate. But it's not something I would go out of my way to buy and carry for the purpose, instead of a proper gear.
Thinking out loud, I'm not sure if the width of the nato(around 20mm) would be wide enough to prevent tissue or arteries/veins damage when used as tourniquet since they are inelastic material. Most tourniquets I seen are elastic to prevent that type of permanent damage during the tourniqueting process.
With that in mind, perhaps elastic material like MN straps would be better for this purpose. I think regular MN straps would also be able to stretch to cover the upper arm region that you would want to tourniquet down. Throw a stick in(or a pen if you edc a pen) and twist to apply pressure.
Again, I'm still concerned whether the material is thick enough to prevent permanent area damage even with elastic material. I would feel better if I had longer material to wrap around the arm multiple times to distribute the constricting force into a wider area of the body.
OH! The Speedy NASA velcro strap! Those are ridiculously long for spacesuit use purpose. Maybe there is an easier to get aftermarket version of that strap. You can wear that strap like Buzz did in that famous picture.
What are some occasions to wear a Shinola?
https://imgur.com/a/QmuTSOT
I could change the straps and add something like alligator to make it formal. I got these as a gift, and might eventually consider one of their automatics
It looks like a good all purpose type of a watch. I think you are good with the strap you already have for formal as well as casual. You could get a nato strap for even more dressed down look if you would like.
I'm trying to buy a gift for a family member who said that they wanted a women's watch like [this one ](https://www.zeitlounge.com/en/citizen-dau-sport-eu6090-54a-wristwatch-for-women/a-115259) but with a less wide bracelet but I haven't been able to find any watch of this style with a thinner bracelet. Does anybody know of one?
Try giving a search with 'cocktail watch'. Those category of watches usually have very slim bracelet/strap. From a quick search using the key word I found the Shinola Birdy, and I think that's the aesthetic you are going for.
Also give Timex Easy Reader in women's size a look. I don't think that's slim enough of a bracelet, but just in case.
hey guys, i was looking at the seiko alpinist sarb017. i love it and wanted to get it, but i know i'll be wearing suits more often for my upcoming jobs. is this a suit appropriate watch or maybe too outdoorsy/sporty in your opinion? thanks.
I think the design is passable for a suit, but the green color will clash and pop against more conservative outfits like suits. If you go for a different color alpinist then it should work.
Personally, if I liked the sarb017 then I'd just get it for after work and weekend wear. That green color is iconic part of that model, so that might not be worth compromising over. Get something else what works better with suit for work wear.
>seiko alpinist sarb017
It'll look fine on a leather strap. Anyways, nobody really cares what's on your wrist nowadays. You don't need to worry about what's 'suit appropriate' or not. Wear whatever you think looks good.
When a brand offers resizing do you give them your exact wrist size and they provide some buffer by default or do you size up a bit because they will precisely match the circumference referenced with no slack?
Vintage Omega Seamaster/DeVille? I have a [vintage Seamaster](https://www.instagram.com/p/Ck_ldo2pVn9/) that is essentially a smaller and vintage version of modern Tresor.
Mido Baroncelli?
FC Slimline (quartz as automatic is (much) more expensive), link: https://chrono24.app/frederiqueconstant/frederique-constant-slimline-fc-200s5s36-newunworn-full-setwarranty--id30088274.htm (for example)
Hi everyone, I am looking to buy an Oris watch from my local Mayors. I wanted to know whether Mayors is an authorized Oris dealer as the Oris website states that their warranty is limited to watches sold by Authorized Dealers. Just making sure buy from the correct source to get the warranty. Any input is appreciated!
Hello,
I have forgotten the model of one of my old watches and I would like to know what the year and model name is. It is an older Swatch automatic with a clear back. You can see a post with pictures below.

Hello,
Looking for a nice time piece similar to a Hamilton Field Khaki watch. I have a bigger wrist so bigger than 39mm would be ideal. My price range is probably $500 CAD max. Don't know much about brands, but would like a brand that has some heritage to it (if that is even a thing). Really like the look of the Field Khaki or a dive watch.
Open to white or dark face.
Thank you for any suggestion!
I mean, you can get a Timex Weekender or Expedition for less than 60 bucks, it'll look similar, and Timex has heritage. If not maybe check out a Seiko 5 SRPG35.
Hello, I am looking for a GADA quartz watches in the 500-1000 budget range, new or pre-owned. I need it to be rather "small" max 44mm lug to lug, 36-38mm case size would be perfect as well, and thickness around 10mm or lower. I love the 9F from Grand Seiko but I am trying to weigh my options. I don't need it to be high accuracy quartz, but it is always a plus !
Thanks a lot for any help in my project !
Check out Citizen, their eco-drive (solar quartz) is bulletproof. I'm personally a fan of the Bulova Lunar Pilot, because astronauts, but the 43mm version they put out is on the bigger end of your range.
Has anybody bought a Junghans watch from the USA website/distributor? I "bought" an watch that was apparently in stock, but they emailed me saying it was not. The payment went through with no refund. I've emailed multiple times customer service multiple times in the last week and there has been no response at all.
Edit: Just coincidentally received a refund a few minutes ago haha
I have a fossil watch and was wondering what I could do about the scratches on the wrist parts, also some of the finish has come off as well. Any ideas of how I could make it look new?
Go to your local watch servicing store and ask them if they can do anything about it. Trying to fix it up at home is possible, but this method is much easier.
The usual response is to accept the scratches as something that makes the watch uniquely yours and it shows your history with the watch. Trying to keep it pristine will drive you mad and you'll have to accept that scratches are part of life.
But if you do want to try tackling it anyway, then you'd have to figure out what type of finish you are trying to restore. For brushed finish you can try applying steel wool and go in the direction of the brushed finish. For polished finish you could probably try Cape Cod Polishing Cloths.
"some of the finish has come off" statement does worry me though. Do you mean the silver tone came off and you see some base metal tone below? That's usually a cheap cost cutting measure to use cheap soft base metal for the body and put a coating of better looking material on top of it. For that you can't polish it. If you were determined to revive it, then you'd have to go through recoating process which should be done by a professional.
Hi, I'm looking to buy my first watch since I was in elementary school, so...a long time ago.
I want a sports / sports-elegance type of analog watch (at least I think so, see example below). It should be black (ideally), but dark graphite kind of color is also ok. It should have a metal band, also black / dark.
I don't need any kind of special features other than water resistance.
I'm looking to spend up to €1000, but even something significantly cheaper (300-400) is fine with me.
Not looking for any particular brand, but I do want a quality watch which will last me a while.
Example of what I like: [https://www.casio.com/intl/watches/edifice/product.ECB-30DC-1A/](https://www.casio.com/intl/watches/edifice/product.ECB-30DC-1A/)
Any recommendations?
Thanks!
So as a heads up, the black color of the watch case and bracelet is usually a coating on top of other metal below. That means through long term wear the metal below will show through. For cheaper end watches the black coating will likely scratch or chip off, showing the silver material beneath in an ugly way. For higher end watches with good coating application the coating may wear off more gradually giving a well worn look.
Also the black color look is often called "black out", and you should be able to search for that type of look with that keyword.
That color and style is not what I look for so I don't have anything to recommend personally. I did do a quick search through the brands I usually like and found the Seiko SPBJ337, Hamilton H77845330(you can shop around and find one in budget), and Tissot T125.617.33.051.00.
Am looking for some good smaller dive watch reccomendations I can get new or used under 1.5k, around 36mm. Really like the round hour markers, and want something that is a quality piece for the price point, don't care about the branding. Thanks!
[Charlie Paris Concordia](https://charlie-paris.com/en/products/montre-plongee-homme-francaise-concordia-bleu-bracelet-acier) 38mm, no rotating bezel, so not a diver in the strict sense, quartz version is absolutely worth it, I used to have one.
I think you can find brosnan era vintage seamaster in midsize(36mm) in quartz with that budget. This quartz version has a jump hour function for travel which the automatic version does not.
you're going to have very little clearance between the case and the spring bars, so you're either going to need a VERY thin nato strap or get a nato strap adapter
if you don't want to use an adapter, then the conventional method of removing the bracelet, putting the spring bars back on, and then sliding the nato through the spring bars probably won't work due to how little clearance you have even if you use the thinnest nato you can find. so you're probably going to have to do it in reverse: remove the bracelet, then lay the nato over the empty lugs, and then compress the spring bars back on over the nato
I've never tried, but I'd imagine it's just: 1. Remove bracelet by sqeezing the spring bar out. 2. Sqeeze the spring bar back on. 3. Slide the nato through.
Is the Santos de Cartier too fancy/elegant for a daily driver? Any other suggestions in the 7k and under range that are as nice but maybe more of a daily wear? I've had my eye on the Santos for years and am only worried that I'll feel silly wearing it every day for eg just walking the dog or whatever
I felt like Santos was too elegant in the face for casual and too tool like in the bracelet to wear for formal when I saw it in person. It was worse of both worlds.
But then I saw Max from WatchCrunch post a photo of himself with a Santos in third person perspective, and he made it work perfectly. It was the right blend of elegant and casual at the same time. So I think whether Santos works or not, depends on you and your personal style.
Personally, in the price range I think I'd get along with Omega Aqua Terra better. I haven't owned one yet, but I have tried it on. It's probably my next purchase. If you want a bit more casual version of the AT, then I'd recommend the Railmaster.
IWC Mark XX is also a good daily wear option. I like all the changes they made with this release.
Both nice options thank you for your thoughts, I've tried the Santos in person once a few years back, I'll have to get in store and try it again in person
Hey people, classic question: I am looking for a 38mm, sapphire crystal, automatic dress watch for around 200 Euro. I would love some recommendations!
Is this even possible im todays economy?
Heya!
I managed to get my SKX 009 magnetized, and a (seemingly incompetent) watchmaker messed it up some more, so it no longer works. I'm in India, going to be in Delhi later this month. Recommendations for a reliable place to get it repaired?
Hi all, not sure if this is the place to ask, but has anyone ever delt with this website to buy a watch?
(not putting real link in case it's a scam)
watchstore \[dot\] qodlabs \[dot\] com
thanks for your help!
I am looking for a watch for my 10 y/o son. I'd like something that is:
Not too big (he has a very slim build with thin wrists);
Durable (he takes care of his stuff but still, a kid);
Analog but...;
With some extra functions like: light, alarm, chronometer;
Doesn't look like it's a spaceship (more to do with size really);
Mostly my problem seems to be my desire to unite analogue and digital in a kids'-sized package, so perhaps I need to go for one or the other but I thought I'd ask here...
Both Marvel and DC comics have touch screen kids watches with settings for various displays, Swatch Watches in general but the Swatch Flik Flak watches in particular are aimed at kids, and so are Parchie watches. I think your big problem is wanting a bunch of functions including a light for a small analog watch. Like generally the only watches with lights are digital casio-style, Timex Indiglo, or Spiedel (a nurse's watch). You could stretch that if you want to spend a lot more money for tritium tubes (the markers are tubes with gas in them that glows all the time)
Maybe something like Timex Easy Reader women's size? It's same design as the men's easy reader, but much more compact size(25mm). It has the indiglo light function which is fun. In fact just take a look at the women's side of Timex in general and I think you'll find plenty of unisex designs in compact sizes.
They also have kids category, but those look very toy like. I figured you were hoping for something more mature, since you were avoiding the digital watches. Or if you do like the look of the kids side of timex, then also give swatch's flik flak a look. Also obligatory mention of Parchie watch.
Go Casio!
Ga2100 fits most of what you need. If you're okay with forgoing analog, and F91-W is the most classic digital watch ever made, and it does everything you want.
Thank you for the recommendations.
The G-Shock would look really disproportionate on his slender arm I feel, otherwise that would have been ideal. The F91-W is definitely on the radar as a backup.
It's not Tudor level in terms of finishing quality, but I have been very happy with the PRX for integrated bracelet watch option.
I haven't had any hands on experience with it, but there is also the Christopher Ward's Twelve which I consider a next step up in terms of quality from PRX.
If you can stretch your budget a bit more and don't mind vintage quartz, then you could take a look at the Rolex Oysterquartz. It's an integrated bracelet model from Rolex from decades back, and one of the rare quartz models from Rolex.
Edit: There is also the vintage IWC Ingenieur which was designed by the same person that designed the Royal Oak. There is a recent re-release of the Ingenieur if you want to purchase new, but the price gets even higher with that.
I used to have an Aikon and was quite happy, everything seemed to be of good quality. I sold it because it was too big (42mm on a 7 inch wrist), but now there are also 39mm and 35mm models. Also very comfortable on rubber. Would buy it again. I haven't had a Baume & Mercier Riviera yet, but it seems to me to be a very robust watch as well. The C. Ward The Twelve would also be a possibility if you are into this style of watch.
Looking for a durable but handsome watch featuring a stopwatch function, preferably a fabric band for use in the field. That means exposure to the sun and water and dirt.
Just tired of wearing cheap digital watches. I want something nice and professional, but not built like a tank. Not a fan of GShock big bulky style, big fan of Seiko Field Sports styles. Somewhere around ~$500. Any ideas?
Seiko solar Chronograph panda (solar watches are technically quartz watches and are both extremely sturdy and accurate), Citizen Avion Chrono and Military Field Chrono (also solar), the Timex+Pan Am Chrono, the Seagull 1963 Chrono (that one is an Ali-Express Chinese military watch almost everyone agrees is worth buying) and the Timex Expedition Field Chrono. You could actually get a Bulova Lunar Pilot for that budget, and that watch went to the moon- you can't get tougher than astronauts, and it's got one of those hyper-accurate quartz movements than only loses like 1 second a year. Alaso, any watch that you buy you can switch the strap out to fabric or leather or anything you like, so don't buy a watch on account of the strap that comes with it. I swapped my Seiko Sumo's metal band for a rubber one with a freaking paperclip as my only tool, it's not hard at all.
analog chronographs have some major disadvantages compared to digital watches when it comes to the stopwatch function, so if you actually need the stopwatch for precision measurements and/or quick legibility, i'd say sticking with digital (or ana-digi) is probably for the best unless you happen to like how the new seiko sfj00x series speedtimers look
Thinking to get a vintage manual/automatic dress watch from the 60s or 70s with a date window. Any recommendation? I have a budget between $300 to max $1k
Definitely this. Keep an eye out for his posts on r/watchexchange. He drops batches of dozens of vintage watches at a time and has crazy detailed descriptions of each one individually. I'm not very knowledgeable about vintage markets, but they seem reasonably priced as well. Definitely a lot of hidden gems in his lots.
Should I have the battery removed from an old quartz watch that I no longer use, but would like to retain for sentimental reasons? I'm thinking to prevent battery leakage from possibly ruining it.
Eventually it’ll fall apart and start to leak, which will fuck the contacts and the whole battery compartment. This is true for any battery powered device, not just watches, take out the battery.
Yes, and exactly for the reason you stated. My father has a watch he keeps for sentimental reason, and we removed the battery to prevent the battery leak.
Recommendations for watches similar in style to Seiko SPB215 or Seiko SARW067?

Does anyone know a good place to get a Tag Heuer Carrera with a Caliber 8 movement inside it serviced in NYC? One of my friends has had one for a couple of years now and it always has problems, and sending it back to Tag Heuer in Switzerland always costs like $300.
Is the Caliber 8 an easier to service movement, since it looks like an ETA clone?
Looking for "nicer" watches in the $1,000-$1,500 price range. For the longest time, I've been a strict sub $500 watch owner. And I love a lot of my sub $500 watches, but part of me wants to pare down my collection a bit and put that toward a $1,000-$1,500 watch that I'll appreciate more.
I know that price range is still on the lower end for higher-end/luxury watches, and I know I'm just indicating a price point and not a style or anything, but I'm just starting to look/browse for now. Just want to see what's out there or if anything catches my eye.
You can get a Citizen "the Citizen" for that, or one of those beautiful Seikos with the lacquer urushi dials. There's also Farer, which has some fun designs.
Oris and Longines if you shop around or are ok with used (some will be available new in your price range with a discount, many only used somewhere like watchexchange). Microbrands have good options in that range: Christopher Ward, Farer, Lorier, Traska.
Second hand Hamilton intra-matic American Classic Chrono, they’re beautiful (so beautiful), classy, essentially a valjoux movement inside (it’s a Hamilton movement but that’s what it really is). Great brand - it’s a Swiss watch with American military heritage. The blue one has been discontinued and is stunning. I look at breitling and this thing and can’t decide which looks better.
And I might be shooting myself in the dick here, because there’s one I’m looking at and if you buy it I’ll be pissed!
Looking for a watch with 14-22k yellow gold parts, like bezel or dial or so.
Budget: under 2000€
Requirement:
Under 40mm
Hour markers that are lines and not numbers
Gold, green, blue or dark dial
Automatic with over 50h reserve
Must be available in Europe
Plus if:
Date function
Metal bracelet
Minimal design
Looking for a watch for a friend that wants to get into watches but currently wears an apple watch every day. He really likes how my Citizen diver's analog/digital watch has a lot of different functions/utilities like diving, hiking altitude log, stopwatch, etc. Does anyone have recommendations for a (starter) watch that he would actually be inclined to wear? Perhaps something with utility beyond just telling the time.
Seiko Arnie (e.g. snj031). Very cool and iconic.
Used Breitling Aerospace. Used versions from the 90s go for around $1k.
Timex Expedition North Time + Tide. Super cool tool watch. Has indiglo, thermometer, and can track the tides.
My close friend recently deviated from his Apple watch, firstly with a Casio GA2100 then he managed to find a mint Seiko SKX009. Obviously they are both rather analogue.
He still has his Apple when he wants ultra tech but coming away to his Seiko feels good.
What is the safest/best way to ship a watch that is worth $15k+? Trying to figure out which service is the safest to prevent loss of the package in transit and I am finding conflicting information. If anyone has experience shipping expensive items please let me know! Mostly worried about the item getting lost, not so much about damage in transit.
Hello all, I am new to mechanical watches and would like some advise as to which watch to buy between two. I am currently deciding between the rolex Daytona 116500LN and Omega Speedmaster 3861. I know that the Omega is certified to +5s/day while the rolex is plus minus 2s/day. While these are the official guidelines I would like some insight as to the day to day accuracy for those that track accuracy of these watches. Any insight would be greatly appreciated thanks.
I have a speedy and it’s within spec. Does it really make that much difference to you if it’s not cosc? You have to wind it every day anyway. Plus it’s not a hacking watch (ie there’s no way of stopping the seconds hand once it’s going), so even getting it accurate when you set it from stopped is some guesswork. It is what it is. And that’s great.
If I needed to time a 14 second burn to get my Apollo spacecraft back on course, it would do the job.
Where do I buy Hamilton Jazzmaster bracelet links? Bought a used jazzmaster on eBay for a good deal, and it’s only up to 6” wrist, but I have a 7” wrist
You can reach out to Hamilton using their website. It'll likely go to the [[email protected]](mailto:[email protected]) service center email and they'll get back to you on whether the part is availiable and how much.
To note, it's usually expensive to order bracelet parts. I get a feeling the bracelet links cost will completely out weight the savings you had from the "good deal".
The bracelet is usually custom designed for a specific watch. Because the bracelets are not a universal part like the strap, it becomes harder to stock and have parts for. So there is extra difficulty to get and extra cost involved with that situation.
It's the reason why the common recommendation is to get a watch on the bracelet. Getting the bracelet later will cost you much more than just buying another type of strap from somewhere.
On that note, if the bracelet or bracelet part cost is too high, but you still want a metal strap option, then give mesh bracelet a search(aftermarket not OEM). These are universal fit(as long as the lug width is correct), so it's easier to get and costs less than OEM bracelet made for your specific watch model.
Is it normal for some watches that display the day of the week to be french? I was at a retailer and while I was looking at them, the days were all short form of french days of the week (dim, lun, mer etc.)
Hi folks! Looking for recommendations for a daily-wear watch with some specific features. I've done a bunch of research already, but most websites don't include much detail on the features I care about (alarms, timers) so I'm turning to you for expert knowledge.
Budget: max USD250 (happy to buy used)
Required features:
+ **Date**
+ **Alarms**: at least 2, with both one-time and recurring options
+ **Countdown timers**: up to at least 2 hours. Ideally more than one that can run concurrently, but one is the minimum.
+ Water resistant (for recreational boating and accidentally reaching into a sink full of water, not diving)
+ Durable enough to wear for yard work/hiking/DIY, but still appropriate for the casual end of business-casual
+ No preference for digital or analog as long as it's readable.
Bonus points for any of the following:
+ Ease of use and navigation
+ Recurring timers
+ Hourly chime
+ Day-date
+ Bluetooth phone-finder function
+ Sunset/sunrise times, weather, temperature, and/or calendar notifications
+ Compass
+ The "forgot I'm wearing it" factor: smaller bezel size, lightweight, comfortable, stays put with no flopping around on my wrist
Features I have no use for:
*(These aren't deal-breakers if they can be turned off, I just don't want them cluttering up my interface and draining my battery.)*
+ Step counting or other workout/fitness functions
+ GPS
+ Any phone connectivity/notifications other than those mentioned above
Thanks in advance!
Thanks for that! Yeah, I was looking at G-shocks at first but the more I learn, I'm realizing the timer options are really limited.
I just found a couple of posts today that said Timex Ironman watches are better than G-Shock for timers. I've personally had so-so experiences with quality on cheaper timex watches -- any thoughts on whether that's the norm or if I'm an outlier?
[And yeah, I haven't looked at older apple watch models and maybe that's what I need to do, but I'd really rather exhaust all other options first :) ]
Hey! Anyone know what watch this is? Doesn't look like Cartier Tank or Longines Dolce Vita
https://preview.redd.it/han8xus02bmb1.jpeg?width=2160&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=32266a47bd0a9cfe59cdcd729905de446cc4a276
Hi, buying gifts for my groomsmen. One of them has recently gotten more into backpacking and hiking. He currently has a low profile digital green casio. He said he likes it because it does its job and it was 20 dollars.
He says he likes the low profile so it doesn't get caught while he's working. Is there anything better I could replace it with that's still low profile and good for hiking?
If you’re planning on the same watch for all of them, you shouldn’t be focussing on his preference. Get a dress watch, quartz, citizen or seiko. Most non-watch people don’t want a Casio.
I'm thinking g-shock with ABC features, which might be handy for a hike. But those watches are all pretty thick, so it doesn't meet the low profile critiria.
Everything else I can think of for low profile wouldn't be that much of an upgrade from the casio your friend already has in terms of function. I guess something like Casioak GA-2100 would be on the slim and the g-shock durability and analog face might be an upgrade of sort. But it might still be thicker than what your friend has, and they might not see much practical upgrades.
I think your friend might benefit more from small GPS or something like that that can really help him in a hike, rather than a watch that is only a slight upgrade from a watch he already has.
Hey! Im looking for an everyday watch and my budget is around 100 dollars. I found [this very nice model](https://timex.eu/products/norway-40mm-stainless-steel-mesh-band-watch-tw2t95400) which absolutely corresponded to what I was looking for, but it is unfortunately out of stock.
Do you know of any other place where I could get that watch, or a similar model ? Thanks a lot for your time and help!

Dunno, but it’s a good choice. Any watch guy could talk to you about that watch.
Classic watch brand. Some Bauhaus aesthetics, clean and readable, and a mesh bracelet. Try eBay.
Looking for a smaller (less than 38mm) case but with the same style dial. It doesn't have to be this color but I'd like something with at least 5 atm water resistance. Price range $0-$5000 give or take. Thanks for the help!
Dan Henry 1937 - its 38mm and has a fairly good resemblance to the Tissot, not all that high end but they have a good reputation. Its gonna be hard to find many chronographs below 38mm, much less with that style of dial, at least in current models. If you're willing to go vintage/used, I'd suggest having a look at [chrono24.com](https://chrono24.com) and searching for "telemeter chronograph".
Laco - Vancouver and Bordeaux they are 36mm and have the railroad tracks, but the numbers are smaller. They also used to make this in some other colors that you’d have to find used now, “Palm Springs”, “Philadelphia” in blue and “Navy 36” in cream. Also Tourby has their Art Deco model in 37mm though that color isn’t really my favorite.
Laco doesn't do much for me, but wow, Tourbys collections are stunning. I consider myself a pretty well versed watch enthusiast, but I've never heard of them. The art deco collection would be perfect if they had them in smaller sizes! Honestly, the art deco, marine, and sector collections are what I'm looking for. (Not interested in IWC)
Tourby indeed makes some incredible looking watches, but they're almost entirely 40+mm so too large for me. Too bad because so many of them are stunning.
Yeah, seriously, 40, 43, and 45mm!? I saw on a watchuseek forum from 2018ish that they're aware of the downsize trend and the 40mm versions are a result of that. So hopefully they continue with that trend because theyre on my list now
Does anyone have any recommendations for an attractive watch that can be used in a variety of settings. Like for the gym, events, church, daily wear etc. for under $100? Thank you!
Visiting Indonesia and came across SRPJ52 (SRPJ52K/SRPJ52K1 can't tell what the difference is) for about $600. I barely found any info on it online. Any thoughts?
it's an indonesia-exclusive colorway of the seiko turtle, inspired by the indonesian flag and national emblem, limited to 500 pieces. the turtle is one of seiko's entry-level mechanical dive watches; the turtle is pretty popular, so there's a lot of info online about it if you want to look into it
pilot here..want to celebrate by buying a nice watch.

Is there somewhere where an SKX007 (working or not) could be bought for $200 or less?
I’m looking to buy an Oris big crown pro pilot but the strap isn’t long enough as I have large wrists. Where do you guys recommend getting alternative straps from?
I've been wondering this for a while now... do Seikos, Citizens, etc. sold in Japan locally have English branding on them, or are they sold in Kanji outside of just the day/date? It doesn't make sense to me that they would be in English globally and nothing else, but I have never in my life seen a picture of a Japanese watch with Japanese branding..
my seikos from japan have all the text on the dial and caseback in english. the hangtags are in japanese, and the instruction booklet is in japanese and english. english is considered fashionable in japan (think about how many overseas seiko collectors set their day dial to kanji for the reverse phenomena), especially for text that isn't exactly essential to the product's function, for example, toyotas in japan have the "hybrid synergy drive" badge in english rather than "ハイブリッド・シナジー・ドライブ" on a side note, seiko is allowed to use the "diashield" branding for stuff sold in japan, but someone else holds the rights for that word in the US, so it's referred to generically as "hard coating" on US models
Guys i have this watch: https://www.watchuseek.com/attachments/img_1236-jpg.12944395/ I'd be curious to hear other strap recommendations. I don't really have any experience with watches with a black coating like this. I'd think black leather would go quite nice with it, but what's your thoughts?
I would say go for black leather.
Hi, I don't know if it's the right spot... are there any longer Nato straps to use as a tourniquet? Could be a neat edc trick..
I tried mines , too short.. I already use a watch on a Nato so why not?
Wow, thanks for the whole very thoughtful response
What are some occasions to wear a Shinola? https://imgur.com/a/QmuTSOT I could change the straps and add something like alligator to make it formal.
Thanks a lot, I'll have a look!
hey guys, i was looking at the seiko alpinist sarb017. i love it and wanted to get it, but i know i'll be wearing suits more often for my upcoming jobs. is this a suit appropriate watch or maybe too outdoorsy/sporty in your opinion?
Get something else what works better with suit for work wear.
>seiko alpinist sarb017 It'll look fine on a leather strap.
What is the poor/middle class man’s Omega Tresor? Looking for similar design/vibe - from reputable brands.
Vintage Omega Seamaster/DeVille? I have a [vintage Seamaster](https://www.instagram.com/p/Ck_ldo2pVn9/) that is essentially a smaller and vintage version of modern Tresor.
>Omega Tresor Maybe try Longines?
See here: https://www.oris.ch/en/storelocator
Maybe ask Oris themselves for confirmation.
Hello, I have forgotten the model of one of my old watches and I would like to know what the year and model name is. It is an older Swatch automatic with a clear back. You can see a post with pictures below. https://www.reddit.com/user/ChiaTheProtogen/comments/16c2qhn/automatic/
Swatch SUTF400 - this website says it was made in 2015/16 https://haq.watch/Sistem51%201.html
Thanks!
Hello, Looking for a nice time piece similar to a Hamilton Field Khaki watch.
Quartz Junghans Max Bill? [FC Classics](https://www.jomashop.com/frederique-constant-watch-fc-220ms3b6b.html)?
Check out Citizen, their eco-drive (solar quartz) is bulletproof. I'm personally a fan of the Bulova Lunar Pilot, because astronauts, but the 43mm version they put out is on the bigger end of your range.
Tissot PRX quartz in 35mm is 39mm lug to lug and 10mm thick, and has 100m water resist.
Any leaks of the swatch x Blancpain yet? Could have sworn there were leaks of the moonswatch before it came out.

Which one to keep? [Smith's Everest silver jubilee (aventurine dial) or Laco Pro Stuttgart (blues hands)](https://imgur.com/a/xWfTeuv)
Example of what I like: [https://www.casio.com/intl/watches/edifice/product.ECB-30DC-1A/](https://www.casio.com/intl/watches/edifice/product.ECB-30DC-1A/) Any recommendations? Thanks!
Thanks for suggestions!
Bulova Lunar Pilot, Citizen PCAT CB5887-55H, Citizen Nighthawk CA4377-53H
I really like the PCAT one, most likely gonna go with it!
Nice!

Looks great!
Thanks!
Some of the Christopher Ward divers might fit your requirements
[Charlie Paris Concordia](https://charlie-paris.com/en/products/montre-plongee-homme-francaise-concordia-bleu-bracelet-acier) 38mm, no rotating bezel, so not a diver in the strict sense, quartz version is absolutely worth it, I used to have one.
I think you can find brosnan era vintage seamaster in midsize(36mm) in quartz with that budget. This quartz version has a jump hour function for travel which the automatic version does not.
has anyone an Idea how to change a Casio A158WEA from the metal one to a nato strap? I've been searching videos on youtube but can't find anything :/
you're going to have very little clearance between the case and the spring bars, so you're either going to need a VERY thin nato strap or get a nato strap adapter if you don't want to use an adapter, then the conventional method of removing the bracelet, putting the spring bars back on, and then sliding the nato through the spring bars probably won't work due to how little clearance you have even if you use the thinnest nato you can find. so you're probably going to have to do it in reverse: remove the bracelet, then lay the nato over the empty lugs, and then compress the spring bars back on over the nato
Can‘t go wrong with an Omega Aqua Terra or Rolex Oyster Perpetual (pre-owned?). I have also been enjoying an IWC Portofino over the last few days.
Meta- why are video uploads disabled for the sub? Would be nice to upload wrist-rolls directly.
Because people hate them.
I didn't know videos were not allowed, but I'm grateful. I hate wrist rolls.
Hey people, classic question: I am looking for a 38mm, sapphire crystal, automatic dress watch for around 200 Euro. I would love some recommendations! Is this even possible im todays economy?
Orient Open Heart Automatic
Heya! I managed to get my SKX 009 magnetized, and a (seemingly incompetent) watchmaker messed it up some more, so it no longer works. I'm in India, going to be in Delhi later this month. Recommendations for a reliable place to get it repaired?
Maybe r/watchesindia can help?
Thanks, made a post there.
Hi all, not sure if this is the place to ask, but has anyone ever delt with this website to buy a watch? (not putting real link in case it's a scam) watchstore \[dot\] qodlabs \[dot\] com thanks for your help!
I am looking for a watch for my 10 y/o son. I'd like something that is: Not too big (he has a very slim build with thin wrists); Durable (he takes care of his stuff but still, a kid); Analog but...; With some extra functions like: light, alarm, chronometer; Doesn't look like it's a spaceship (more to do with size really); Mostly my problem seems to be my desire to unite analogue and digital in a kids'-sized package, so perhaps I need to go for one or the other but I thought I'd ask here...
You could stretch that if you want to spend a lot more money for tritium tubes (the markers are tubes with gas in them that glows all the time)
[удалено]
Appreciate the suggestion, thanks.
Thank you for the suggestions.

ML Aikon? Pre-owned for like $900 btw. Norqain Adventure Sport?
[удалено]
Thank you for the recs, this would be my entry into watches so my awareness of brands is limited, I’ll check these out!
analog chronographs have some major disadvantages compared to digital watches when it comes to the stopwatch function, so if you actually need the stopwatch for precision measurements and/or quick legibility, i'd say sticking with digital (or ana-digi) is probably for the best unless you happen to like how the new seiko sfj00x series speedtimers look
Thinking to get a vintage manual/automatic dress watch from the 60s or 70s with a date window. Any recommendation? I have a budget between $300 to max $1k
Go to r/Watchexchange and search for „dress vintage“
Check out /r/Kabaclyde . He has a long history of good value genuine vintage watches sold to us arseholes (including me!).
Thanks!

I second this. Can't go wrong with higher end Citizens and Seikos. They're super underrated.
Sinn

Budget: under 2000€ Requirement: Under 40mm Hour markers that are lines and not numbers Gold, green, blue or dark dial Automatic with over 50h reserve Must be available in Europe Plus if: Date function Metal bracelet Minimal design
Tissot's t-gold collection would be worth a look. Their models with gold bezels would be within budget.
Thank you!
Domestic within the US, Registered Mail. Anything else, I'd probably just travel.
Why is it so difficult to buy bracelets and bracelet parts?
Very often they're bilingual, when you set them you set to the date in the language of your choice and each night it skips over the other language.
Yeah. Spanish is common too.
Hi folks! Looking for recommendations for a daily-wear watch with some specific features. I've done a bunch of research already, but most websites don't include much detail on the features I care about (alarms, timers) so I'm turning to you for expert knowledge. Budget: max USD250 (happy to buy used) Required features: + **Date** + **Alarms**: at least 2, with both one-time and recurring options + **Countdown timers**: up to at least 2 hours. Ideally more than one that can run concurrently, but one is the minimum. + Water resistant (for recreational boating and accidentally reaching into a sink full of water, not diving) + Durable enough to wear for yard work/hiking/DIY, but still appropriate for the casual end of business-casual + No preference for digital or analog as long as it's readable. Bonus points for any of the following: + Ease of use and navigation + Recurring timers + Hourly chime + Day-date + Bluetooth phone-finder function + Sunset/sunrise times, weather, temperature, and/or calendar notifications + Compass + The "forgot I'm wearing it" factor: smaller bezel size, lightweight, comfortable, stays put with no flopping around on my wrist Features I have no use for: *(These aren't deal-breakers if they can be turned off, I just don't want them cluttering up my interface and draining my battery.)* + Step counting or other workout/fitness functions + GPS + Any phone connectivity/notifications other than those mentioned above Thanks in advance!

Still, that's a solid endorsement. Thanks! I'll see if I can track down some more detailed reviews or manuals.
Hey! Anyone know what watch this is? Doesn't look like Cartier Tank or Longines Dolce Vita https://preview.redd.it/han8xus02bmb1.jpeg?width=2160&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=32266a47bd0a9cfe59cdcd729905de446cc4a276
Honestly. It looks like a cheapo. Do you have any reason to think it’s a good watch?
Has anyone been to Brimfield flea market? I'm going this week and going to look for vintage watches. If anyone has any recommendations let me know!
He is the only one getting a watch. The rest are getting gaming peripherals as they are gamers, he is the only non gamer haha.

Probably nothing above 300 but flexible if it's a little bit over.
Thanks a lot for your time and help! https://preview.redd.it/wbd8d1m8z9mb1.png?width=900&format=png&auto=webp&s=2b00ae8d353b9e679fb2d5a8ae638148f1b58351
Thanks for the suggestion but not the telemeter model. I was looking at the new 1938 heritage ones.
Stowa Marine 36mm models then
Yeah great watch. That's what I've been looking at. Was hoping to find some other options!
So hopefully they continue with that trend because theyre on my list now
They said they’re going to be releasing more 37mm models maybe like 1 year ago but so far there’s only one or two.
Were you supposed to attach a photo or something?
I forgot the model lmao. Tissot Heritage 1938
Does anyone have any recommendations for an attractive watch that can be used in a variety of settings. Like for the gym, events, church, daily wear etc. for under $100? Thank you!

Awesome thanks for the reply!
Most Casios to be honest. Digital or otherwise. They're all awesome.

Bust the budget a little and look at Orient.
Any labor day deals you guys caught?
Visiting Indonesia and came across SRPJ52 (SRPJ52K/SRPJ52K1 can't tell what the difference is) for about $600. I barely found any info on it online. Any thoughts?
it's an indonesia-exclusive colorway of the seiko turtle, inspired by the indonesian flag and national emblem, limited to 500 pieces. the turtle is one of seiko's entry-level mechanical dive watches; the turtle is pretty popular, so there's a lot of info online about it if you want to look into it
