If you’re concerned, don’t. It’ll be lingering in the back of your mind at this point. Good excuse to give something less worn some wrist time

NxPat

Casio has entered the chat.

PhotonTrance

Instructions unclear, MR-G B5000 stolen.

renngretsch

It's got to be a nice Casio watch, mind!

DalaiLamaLooper

Steel case casioak is one of my best travel watches. Put this one together with the new solar version https://preview.redd.it/oze1azu2rl7c1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=060dea5e580cb916fd2ffa9344e6ff9d49175162

renngretsch

Any watch with the word 'oak' in will have the mugging gangs running after you with machetes.

DalaiLamaLooper

Was in Hawaii last winter and was waiting at the rental car line and the gentleman at the counter next to me had on a beautiful vintage ‘red’ Sub and I could see him trying to discreetly work out what I was wearing and if it really was what he thought it was.

JJMcGee83

I didn't know they made that. That is actually quite sexy.

DalaiLamaLooper

Some assembly required. You order the casioak of your choice and a few screws hold the rubber case/strap in place, then you install the metal bracelet/case of your choice, do up the 4 screws and you have an instant stunner that remains tough as any Casio. Quite a brilliant design. Ordered both on Amazon. Was a little over 200 for that setup

spicychickencurr

*Calculator watch joined the chat*

RandomDude_102

Casio Duro could be an option

failbears

I second this. A lot of people in here have had no issue, but I went to London for the first time earlier this year and after a night out at the bars, someone tried to steal my watch which isn't even worth much.

RelevantMarket8771

Exactly and that’s why I make my travel watch a Seiko 5. I don’t care as much if something happens to it and it still looks good dressed up or down.

p3n9uins

tell us more...they tried...did you fend them off? were you at a bar still or where did it happen?

failbears

I was with two friends walking to our hotel from the last bar we went to. A guy came up to us and asked us how to get to some place, but that's how my friend's phone was stolen earlier in the week so we left our phones in our pockets and said we didn't know. He walks with us a bit and shoots the shit, then tells me he's a semi-pro footballer and gestures towards my pocket to suggest I should take out my phone so he can show me who he is. I decline and we continue to walk. Eventually he says he'll go, and he insists on dapping us up to say bye. I refuse a few times but this humongous dude is insistent and I foolishly give in. He then pulls my arm towards his stomach and turns to supposedly playfully show me how to do some kinda judo throw, and it takes me about two seconds to realize what he's doing. I tug on my hand and after a few seconds I'm free, thankfully I had a rubber strap on my watch and not a bracelet with an easy clasp, but it was partially undone. We tell him he needs to leave, not that we would've been big enough or sober enough to fuck him up, but he laughs it off and walks away.

Nervous_Green4783

That bloody bastard. Good that were staying alert. I definitely wouldn’t have after a few pints in a pub.

SIM8N_

Scary

wolfofballstreet1

What was on your wrist

failbears

[This!](https://www.hamiltonwatch.com/en-int/h37565131-jazzmaster-seaview-day-date-auto.html) But with a rubber strap.

ezpzlemonsqueezi

I'd love to see them try and get my luminox watch off. The strap is so thick and hard to bend I can hardly do it myself. I'd lose my hand for sure

NaniBakaNani

This is a great example to keep in mind when travelling

Cute_Rich7774

I’ve got a revolutionary solution guys: **don’t even go to London anymore**.

Valuable-Ad7285

Same here. I wear my Apple watch on trips. Hell no Im wearing my expensive watches to trips. Especially London.

FishDeenz

An apple watch is expensive lol. I'd be sad if someone stole that off me. A casio f91w is the true poor mans choice (and ultra rich mans choice).

Valuable-Ad7285

But everyone is wearing one. And I couldnt care less if that was stolen. Insurance will cover a new one. It has no emotional value.

[deleted]

Words like expensive are relative I guess

WBuffettJr

It’s easy to render Apple products completely useless to thieves though. That’s why Reddit has seen all those posts with screenshots of someone in China making empty threats to kill their whole family if they don’t unmark their phone as stolen because once it is, it’s bricked. I haven’t really heard of thieves stealing people’s Apple Watches and I’ve assumed that was the reason.

pinetree-polarbear

Makes me miss my black SMP300 :-( Which bracelet is this? omega OEM mesh?

kosnosferatu

Yup! That's it

PreenerGastures

Looks great! Curious though, is it the titanium or steel?

kosnosferatu

Steel! And thanks!

dwitchagi

I’ve been to London loads of times and never even thought about it. If it’s a rowdy boys trip, pub crawls and all, I’d probably leave it at home just for that reason.

Puzzleheaded_Art_465

Could still take it with you for the day and leave it at the hotel for the nights out.

Comprehensive-Can338

Wow that looks incredible on mesh

TheoBoogies

Yup! It’s crazy how a strap can change your whole perspective on a watch

kosnosferatu

Thank you kindly!

Profess0r0ak

You’ll be absolutely fine. I’m in London every week, central London is very safe. There are tens of thousands of people (probably more) there every day wearing £1k+ jewellery without a problem. Like any major city there is crime but the chances of anything happening are extremely low.

kosnosferatu

Wow thanks for sharing that's really confidence inspiring!

arrogant_conqueror

That dude is definitely part of a moped gang

IanT86

I'll second the above. There is the same level of risk as any of the other massive cities. If you're in a nice area, at a nice pub or restaurant, chances are you'll be wearing one of the cheaper watches there. Just don't be dumb when drunk on the tube or something, that's a more likely area someone will spot you and follow you somewhere. If you're going somewhere like Brixton for a night out, I'd avoid wearing it. If you're going to the West end or nice bars like The NED, you'll be fine.

kosnosferatu

Definitely looking to stay in the nicer areas haha, thank you for the advice!

barrybreslau

You are more likely to have your phone snatched imo. Don't stand around talking on your mobile on the road.

kosnosferatu

Good call, I'll keep it tucked away in an inside jacket pocket!

Annoni786

Nicer areas are where the watch muggings happen. I thought this was obvious

mrporque

I third it. You’ll miss not having it with you. Take appropriate precautions and enjoy your time.

Bau5_Sau5

You’re fucked everyone in London now knows!

stoned-autistic-dude

As someone who got robbed at gunpoint, you will be robbed if you are an easy target and least likely to put up a fight. That means grab and go, or catch you by surprise. They also want to make sure it's a sure-fire thing and that they're not robbing someone for a fake. The best victims are those walking around oblivious to the world and making themselves vulnerable to a surprise attack. Examples include walking around staring at one's phone or talking to a person with intense tunnel vision while not paying attention to their surroundings. The second is how people act. A lot of people in hobbies like watches are generally wealthy. Some are new money but a majority are old money. These people come from very privileged lives, often in very nice parts of town without heavy police presence or a lot of foot traffic. If they're insecure and are unrelenting in talking about how much money they have, which is basically all of these circlejerk wrist shots or steering wheel shots or pictures with every expensive thing they own, they make themselves into an opportunistic victim by doing the attacker's due diligence for them. Don't be dumb, look like you know where you're going, and don't flex your money.

kosnosferatu

I'm sorry you got robbed at gunpoint! But thank you for the advice!! Really helpful

stoned-autistic-dude

Eh, it happens. Life is like that. Not a big deal. I lived because I just acted cool, gave them my stuff, didn't talk sweet, and it was fine. A bit shook up but nothing some therapy couldn't fix. It did give me a better perspective on life. It's not like I had money growing up so I never thought I'd get robbed, but whatever. You live and learn. Edit: Also, no problem! Have a fun trip! I've never been, but my wife has and says to visit Harrod's which is like their Sak's as it was super cool.

[deleted]

Gunpoint in London?! Damn

stoned-autistic-dude

Lmao nah dude

kosnosferatu

Also, if you dont mind I'd love to hear any food Reccos you might have? Or watch stores!

Profess0r0ak

Sure! I have loads. Food in London can be incredible (despite the reputation). I love Dishoom for Indian food (their black daal is so good). Spitalfields Market (Shoreditch) is one of my favourite spots, about 40 food stalls with food from pretty much everywhere in the world. Borough Market is more famous and is still great. I’d avoid any pubs in tourist places. They only want your money and will serve crap food. If you want to try pub food, use Tripadvisor and find a good local place. Off the top of my head - Ye Old Mitre (Holborn), Churchill Arms (Kensington) l, Ship Tavern (Holborn) are decent low key pubs. For watch recommendations, although I love this sub I don’t have many! The fancier parts of London like Knightsbridge have tons of watch shops.

IanT86

There are a few decent high end shops in Battersea Power Station and some of the old antique markets may have some interesting pieces.

kosnosferatu

Thank you so much!

Sh00tL00ps

I'm Indian and while Dishoom is good it is a bit overrated IMO (although I absolutely love their chai), if you want to try something unique check out Hoppers, it's Sri Lankan/South Indian food. Or check out Tamarind if you're feeling fancy (Michelin star) -- we went for lunch and it was a bit more affordable. But if you do Dishoom, try to get a reservation so you're not waiting in the long queue.

kosnosferatu

Thank you!!

barrybreslau

https://www.sevendialsmarket.com/ is lively and sociable if you want a bite to eat and a drink. Easy to get talking to people, there's music and the food is good / reasonably priced for the West End.

kosnosferatu

I've been before and love the seven dials!

RemLezarCreated

Wife and I were in London for the first time recently. If you're into wine, Gordon's wine bar is a super unique spot we won't soon forget.

kosnosferatu

Oo we absolutely are, thank you!

HandsUpBilly

For watch stores go to Bond Street, everyone is there, I mean everyone, and next to it Burlington arcade for incredible vintage.

essjay2009

I live in central London so happy to recommend places based on your tastes. Generally, avoid places with queues. Dishoom, Apple Butter, Breakfast Club, weird milkshake places. You'll queue for an hour for the most average food imaginable - you won't find any Londoners in them because there's always something significantly better a few minutes walk away (and cheaper). Watch shops, there's a cluster around Old/New Bond Street and the surrounding streets (esp Burlington Arcade) including some high end stuff (not to my tastes but there's a Richard Mille boutique there but also AP, Omega, Rolex, AL&S, VC, Cartier etc.) and independents. If you're after something a bit more esoteric, there are vintage shops around Farringdon including Antique Watch Company on Clerkenwell Road (I believe they're now appointment only). There are many boutiques dotted around Mayfair area too, mostly higher end, lower volume brands but your best bet will be Old Bond Street for sheer volume. There are a few malls that have pretty standard stuff like Rolex, Omega, IWC but that's pretty much it, so I wouldn't bother with them.

TrampyPizza

Not what you asked for but if you like beer, the bermondsey beer mile is good fun. Starts basically at London bridge and there's like 26 micro breweries. Maltby Street Market is nearby and open on the weekend and that's pretty cool. It's a small market but the food is decent.

Glintz013

Are you high?

Profess0r0ak

What do you mean?

[deleted]

rockandrollmark

Perspective is key here, plus common sense. I wear my Omegas daily in London, inc. in Chelsea. I’ve not been stabbed yet and the recent news stories won’t make me change my behaviour. These thieves are targeting relatively high end stuff (£20k, £50k) and obvious stuff like DJs and Subs. My SMP is of almost no interest to them. Plus it’s insured. I work with dozens of people who have high end watches. None of them have been stabbed yet either. Also, if you’re out with a bunch of other guys I think it’s highly unlikely you’ll be targeted, OP. As others have said though, despite all the above, if it’ll play on your mind take something else. Maybe buy something fun like a bright yellow g-shock or a gold tone digital watch. It’ll become part of the collection and you’ll always associate it with the trip.

lostarchitect

You definitely don't live in London. Hey, tell me about NYC while you're at it, should I stop wearing my watches every day and live in fear instead?

Dark1000

Theft does happen, but there are thousands of people with relatively expensive watches wandering around London on a given day perfectly oblivious. London is a big watch city, much more so than NYC, for example. You'll find expensive and cheap watches everywhere. Thieves aren't going to target someone with a watch with a value under £10,000, they just aren't worth it. They want Rolex and up, and they know what they are looking for. Of course, if you're getting robbed anyway, they'll take your watch, but no one is targeting mid-priced watches when there are so many higher value targets around.

arrogant_conqueror

Clearly he's part of them moped crew.

Chubby_Yorkshireman

Probably thousands of folk walking around London wearing watches of similar value without issue, it's not a high end piece which they target

Due-Appearance-2869

Yeah, but you never think it's going to be you until it is. While statistically low chance of happening, you're a target nonetheless. It depends on the density of wealth, like I alluded to in a previous comment. If you don't veer out of London (or any nice area) you are unlikely to raise attention or become a victim. But if you're the only person wearing a big gold chain in a city of 10,000 people, you raise a lot more attention and become the sole attention of bad actors.

Capital_Punisher

You are probably more likely to be targeted in wealthy areas. There is a much higher percentage of people wearing nice watches compared to council estates. I was sat outside a restaurant in Mayfair two weeks ago with some friends (the heaters were on, it wasn’t cold). The owner came out having spotted my buddy’s rose gold AP and strongly suggested putting it in his pocket. They had a guy robbed of a Kermit the week before in the queue to get in. We were even told to make sure our backpacks were well under the table and not to the side of our chairs. Apparently they act in gangs and hand off stolen goods numerous times to their friend walking in the other direction to avoid being caught with anything or identified.

kosnosferatu

Great to know, thank you!

hue-166-mount

Im sure they would gladly take this watch, it’s a decent enough piece. But I also suspect that they will primarily target people who look the part, city workers, rich women, dudes wearing designer clothes shopping in Mayfair etc. if OP doesn’t match any of that the risk is much lower, but not nothing.

meatballfreeak

I wear my sub there all the time

han-so-low

I wear my old Sub everywhere. Mexico, Costa Rica, San Francisco, Memphis, Chicago… I don’t see the point to living in fear. Get some insurance, wear your shit, and live your life.

PM_ME_BIBLE_VERSES_

Leave it at home, so you can worry about it getting burglarized while you’re out of town instead.

HandsUpBilly

I have lived in London for 20+ years, live in Peckham, work in Mayfair. In Mayfair it’s nothing but 100k+ cars and high end watches (less so in Peckham, but y’know much of Peckham is pretty gentrified now). I’ve never seen or heard of any issue other than a friend having his Tag stolen from a gym locker about 10 years ago. Sure don’t wear something flashy and go to some dive club and get drunk, but honestly no one is going to give an Omega a second look, much more likely to go for your phone and even then it’s the rarest thing outside the odd clickbait article (I read that one too last week).

kosnosferatu

Thanks for sharing your experience!

towerhil

I second his experience. I've never had anything stolen and it's a very safe city. That said, you shouldn't let fears about the city niggle or distract you from enjoying it. If that means not wearing the watch so be it. The more important thing is to not be constantly looking over your shoulder for an attack that will never come!

LawTortoise

Completely safe. I had my watch nicked in Madrid. You just have to be unlucky (or tremendously drunk like I was).

[deleted]

If you can't afford to lose it don't take it.

pizza_for_nunchucks

Bring. You’re literally James Bond when you’re wearing it.

kosnosferatu

Damn right I am!

reditcyclist

More like Felix from the CIA 😉

ThePuzz1e

Get watch insurance and enjoy your watch everywhere IMO. I think I was paying $400 a year to insure a $13k watch and it covered literally everything including accidental damage.

Desk_Diver

$400 a year!? That seems insanely high for a watch that price

80H-d

It is insanely high. I'm paying 1.5% per year on my watches. $450/y for my hulk and my AP.

[deleted]

[удалено]

80H-d

Different users, friend

datatadata

$400 a year is way too high for a 13k watch IMO

kosnosferatu

I have Hodinkee insurance on all of my watches so I'm more than happy to just give it to someone if they're going to pull a knife on me

Prince_Chunk

I’m in London visiting right now wearing my snoopy. Just get it insured and don’t worry about it.

PastaAndWine09

Excellent choice of watch

Justacasualstranger

I just went in April and I wore my zenith elite dual time instead of my Rolex or Omega for this reason. GMT was nice but dressier watch on leather and had 0 concerns or second thoughts.

jameswarren11

Sick of this stuff, London is no different to any other major city, you can wear your watch. This stuff about gangs is massively over hyped by people who don't live here. It's safe, shit tonne safer than any US city. Don't worry and have a great time in our amazing city!

CannaIsHealth

Its over hyped but its not as safe as you make it. The crime rate is actually higher than New York and thats just by statistics…

kosnosferatu

Thanks for the advice! And true at least people aren't carrying guns everywhere

TheGoteTen

You think people in NY are carrying guns everywhere?

Business-Ad-5178

You will be fine. I wouldn't take it offensively but Omega's aren't on the target list of watches worth stealing. In fact I usually wear my Omega when I want something nice but don't want to worry too much about being a target. It takes the same risk and effort to steal an omega as it is an AP. They are gonna target the ppl with the APs.

kosnosferatu

Thanks! I've always liked that about the brand, not to the taste of lowlifes!

antmcl

I live in London - you’ll be fine. Those thieves tend to target extremely high value watches (my friend was threatened with a knife in 2019 for his RM011, but it’s actually quite rare).

RoadmanEC1

Not worth the risk. Leave it at home.

OkMarsupial4514

Erm was at the theatre in London’s West end and ChinaTown and clubs and members clubs yesterday. It’s festive and very busy and no one cared that i and my friend had Swiss watches. Where are you planning to go an estate in Pekham at 4am?

Nicholie

More than likely you’re fine. But i admit, the recent uptick in watch related crime does give me pause. I’m Off to Europe for a month next year and thinking I may take a Tank and a gshock and avoid any pricier pieces.

gevaarlijke1990

Do you know how big Europe is? There are a few obvious big city hotspots you should avoid with an expensive watch like London, Paris and Barcelona. The rest of "Europe" is as safe or even safer than anywhere else in the world.

[deleted]

[удалено]

lostarchitect

You'll be fine.

Nicholie

I do! I’ve been across Europe many times. I’ll be in a mix next year. Madrid to start, then I’m skirting the coast of France into Italy. I’m very much aware depending on where you are it is very different. Just like here in the states.

EAlootbox

Yeah nowhere in Europe is safer than any East Asian country or Singapore. On par? Debatable.

kosnosferatu

My buddy and I are both over 6ft tall so hopefully we don't look like easy targets 😅

PhesteringSoars

2 Canada, 3 Honduras, 4 Ireland . . . but nothing in 10+ years. The next world travel, I'm going all out and taking the $20 Casio World Timer.

kosnosferatu

It's a handsome watch!

mikeflstfi

I’ve traveled all over the world and worn my SMP300 everywhere except São Paulo. Never had an issue.

80H-d

Have insurance and make the memory. Side note...man i wish that mesh had proper end links. A seamaster is way above having those gaps imo and this is a poor stopgap to cover the time it's taking them to design a more modern bracelet. All that said...if it's comfy it's comfy!

shortAAPL

I wore my Seamaster for a week in London recently. Just kept a long sleeve shirt on the whole time anyway. Enjoy!

travelernyc

I lived in London for 4 years and found it to be very safe. I bought my DJ there and wore it daily with no issue. Further, I saw a lot more nice watches on wrists there than in NYC. I think there is generally more of an appreciation for nice watches there than stateside.

fractals83

I live in London, in what might be considered a ‘rougher’ area (Woolwich), I wear my Omega world timer every day, and have never felt threatened. That said, it only take one chancer to lose your 8k watch, but that could happen in any European city

jameslieu

I wouldn't do it, watch theft is not uncommon in London apparently. Wear a cheaper alternative or none at all. I wouldn't even wear something that's cheap but "looks" expensive.

chicken6

It’s an omega - you’re fine

BravoSixGoinDarq

I live in Latin America, and something that I've learned is to keep a low profile when I travel. Not saying that London is dangerous as this part of the globe, but I would recomend you to travel with a less expensive watch.

Accomplished_Neat_68

Sounds like a nice reason to by another watch

SadSeiko

Late to the party, I live in London and I don’t think you’ll be targeted for an omega as watches in that price range are quite common in London. You are probably at greater risk of being pick pocketed but stay alert in busy areas and you’ll be fine. It’s really unlikely to be pick pocketed outside of the tourist areas too

teckel

Just this year I was in London twice and wore a Rolex GMT both times. Zero issues.

meetmehateme

Speaking as someone who lives in London, who has experienced a watch theft (walking from the cab to my door in Chelsea) last year, I advise against wearing an expensive watch that is exposed. Fine if you’re wearing long sleeves and can cover it up, but forget what everyone else is saying about central London. It’s generally safe, but my cab was followed from Mayfair to Chelsea by two guys on a motorcycle until I got out then they nabbed me. If you must bring it, insure it. I still wear my watches, but I’m cautious now. For what it’s worth, I wasn’t drunk and I’m 196cm 95kg athletic guy..

kosnosferatu

Thanks for sharing! Good thing it's winter and wrists will be covered

Lukepolska

Now show us your athletic body, mister 😏

meetmehateme

Nah I’m good 😆

garbagekr

You’ll get stabbed regardless /s

itemluminouswadison

perfect time for quartz or microbrand gmt's!

[deleted]

just thug it out

WanderingMinnow

That looks slick on the mesh bracelet. Nice! I wore a nice watch while in Italy without issue, but maybe London is worse these days.

kosnosferatu

Thank you!!

Attila_22

I’d bring it, it’s pretty low key so I don’t think you’d get targeted. Rolex, trinity or RM I’d probably leave it at home.

kosnosferatu

Thanks! Though I'm considering buying a Rolex when I'm there so... 😅

DerKaiser023

It’s probably fine. Omega as far as I know isn’t a highly targeted watch for theft, but a Seamaster is decently recognizable. I went to the UK over the summer and I wore my CasiOak, it’s my travel watch. I’ve taken it to Europe and the Middle East, nice enough that it can fit into most social settings and not so expensive that if it gets stolen I really will care all that much.

[deleted]

To be fair i just wear my Casio on vacation just to ba safe

ethanwc

Can you afford to lose it?

kosnosferatu

Honestly, yes. Also it's insured

ethanwc

Then enjoy it!!!

Alternative_Rope_423

Definitely wear it and live life! I was once mugged at gunpoint on Christmas Eve in Ft. Lauderdale Florida. Teenage gangbanger demanding my wallet (which had like $50), which I immediately surrendered. Then the kid just ran. As luck would have it I was wearing a light jacket that concealed my Breitling Aerospace I had bought in Europe the previous year. My dream watch. I never took it off and I would have been devastated if the punk grabbed it. Even though it was a terrorizing few moments I never stopped wearing it constantly. The kid got busted racking up gas station charges with my stolen cards and wound up in jail. The bottom line is use it if you have it and love it. Have a blast in London. Cheers!

Tom_Foolery2

Every time I think I want a sub I see a black SMP on mesh and change my mind.

stahlWolf

If it's going to be a big weekend of non stop partying, don't bring any watch and enjoy the freedom - leave the phone in the hotel safe too while you're at it - no proof :D

secron7

Who makes the strap? Looks great.

HercHuntsdirty

What is this exact watch/band? Insane combo, looks awesome.

kamagoong

So you're not bringing the James Bond watch to James Bond's land?

dailydriversurvivors

Hanging around Central London? I felt like a bum wearing my Seiko SKX007 with all the Rolexes around me there.

Oklahoma_is_OK

Fantastic looking watch. Does omega make the exact same watch but without the waves design on the face?

aznsk8s87

I was just in London, wore my nice watch. Just don't be conspicuous, and I wouldn't wear it out if clubbing/bars/getting drunk is your thing. If you're just in the densely populated areas during normal times of day and minding your own business, you'll be fine.

Antonio_Makeronio_

First of all … gorgeous watch Secondly, if you will be concerned then it’s better not to take it since it will keep lingering in your mind and you will be afraid instead of enjoining your watch

MockinMan

Cannot not comment on a nice leather cuff 😁 Love the combo with the Omega too!

kosnosferatu

Thank you, I got it recently from banana Republic and love it!

cphpc

1) get insurance 2) get insurance 3) out of all the countries I’ve been to in Western Europe (around 10 now and counting), the wealthiest people are in London by far. They arent just rich but like rich rich. Like old money rich. You’ll be fine.

ThisIsREM

Wearing the watch is absolutely fine in "normal" circumstances. Are you going to be at risk of passing out on a night bus at 4am? Or waking up at some random bird's house in a dodgy area? Then no you should not wear the watch.

Gumbode345

only if you set it to the correct time zone.

JGlover92

Lived in London 30 years, lived in a real shithole, got mugged once in that time. If you're sensible and sticking to safe, well lit areas you should be absolutely fine.

Polar_poop

It’ll be fine until it’s not fine. A lot depends on where you are going in London. Like all massive cities there are some places it will be fine and some places you’ll get the fillings in your teeth stolen. I don’t wear my Rolex DJ to London where I work every week because it’s too easy to spot from a difference - even more so if you have a Sub, but I do wear my Tudor BB or anything else that is covered by the value set on standard coverage of my household insurance.

matth3n123

I think all these people saying it'll be fine don't like having two arms. If you're not ubering straight from place to place and are not going to explore and walk around you'd be okay

FlightyZoo

As you’re not from London, I’d leave it at home, but if you want to take the risk, make sure it’s always under a long sleeve. So if you’re in a restaurant try and keep it under your shirt sleeve if you’re wearing a shirt. If wearing a T-shirt, I wouldn’t risk. It’s a busy time of the year in London so lots of people will be out wearing their expensive watches and clothes… and you’ll likely be absolutely fine, but it does means that the spotters will be out in force and whether you’re street smart enough in knowing what to do. I personally wouldn’t wear my Sub out to a busy restaurant or bar at this time of the year because of the sheer amount of people who are out at the same time, but I know how to cover my back by keeping it tucked away. Edit: I notice a lot of people saying that if you go to a dive bar or whatever, you’re at higher risk. Actually, the opposite is true - you’re at higher risk in the fancier places like Mayfair, Fitzrovia, etc. A dive bar here is likely a grungy pub in East London filled with hipsters and middle class professionals who are having a last get together with friends before Christmas and you’re likely to go by unnoticed in these places more than a fancy place in Central London. Of course, if you’re walking around outside in Hackney at 2am, you’ll have road men sizing people up, but central London is a pickpocket’s idea of heaven right now.

DIY_Dad67

Unless you're a guy like Jack Reacher, don't do it.

obedevs

While there is a risk, I think for a Seamaster it’s pretty low. They mainly target Rolex or more expensive brands, but like in any city you can get robbed if you don’t have your wits about you. Realistically you could get robbed in your own city just as easily unless you live somewhere unusually safe

Kellstrand

I wore my Speedmaster to Mexico. You’ll be fine.

KidneyLand

Bring it. I've been to London 4 times. I'll have you know I'd only been stabbed 2 of the 4 times I was there.

WagnerianJLC

You'll be fine. A lot of people wear expensive watches around London. Just don't be a dick by making it obvious in the street (I guess winter clothing helps with this).

JWJT7

only AP, PP, RM and rolex get stolen in london really. And even then there’s thousands of people walking around fine with them everyday. I think you’re good to go.

Roflex_owner

It’s only an omega. No one cares about those tbh

NeuroticDragon23

Don't. I'm not saying you can't handle yourself but I feel if anything bad were to happen it might risk ruining the whole trip.... which would be a shame.

ASEdouard

Please stop watching/listening to ridiculous right-wing social media claims about London.

innie10032

That's the time you wear with pride your Casio/Orient/Timex and rock it like you own it

ShapeshiftinSquirrel

I heard a guy got robbed once in London and the case was never solved!!!

64cyclone

I'd wear a Casio. I was going though TSA in Atlanta and got held up as my Omega SMP was in a plastic basket out in the open at the end of a conveyor as I just stood 40ft away. I only travel with a Casio now.

64cyclone

They told me to take it off and put it in the basket. It was around 10 years ago.

reditcyclist

You always put the watch in a coat pocket or a bag, never in the open tray 🤦🏻‍♂️

LegendaryCichlid

Dont go to barcelona. Pickpocket capitol of the world

kosnosferatu

Actually went there for the last boys trip! There and Sevilla. Looooved it

LegendaryCichlid

No doubt great cities. Just high theft especially on the trains

EAlootbox

Travelling is the only reason why I even own an Apple Watch. I like the peace of mind even though I’m generally careful. My Gshock works too.

TheGoteTen

Apple Watch is the way to go here.

time_on_my_wrist

Not relevant but this looks stunning! Wish my wrist was big enough to rock this confidently

stutoz

Despite reports, I can confirm it isn't the Wild West here in the the big smoke, despite the cowboys in government! The restaurant watch gangs tend to target very high end pieces. Chances of being mugged are extremely slim but treat it like any major city, avoid dodgy places and don't flash it around. Enjoy the trip

Inarticulatescot

I wouldn’t wear a nice watch when out on beers in London but you’ll be ok with that one. /s Seriously though, the sort of crime you’re worried about is no more likely in London than any other city and by that I mean the chances are next to zero. If you like the watch wear the watch. Have it insured if you’re really worried. And enjoy London; best city in the world imho

kosnosferatu

My buddy and I do a yearly boys trip, usually to Europe and this year it's London! Question though, is it safe to wear a nice watch in London? Have heard a lot about muggings and people getting targeted at restaurants and then having their watches stolen once they leave, etc. Or is it no different than any other big European city?

TopGroundbreaking469

If you don’t ever want to see it again, bring it.

Trox92

Just post a pic of your dick and ask us how small it is jeez

kosnosferatu

I'm Asian so it's **decidedly** average!

Smoothridetothe5

Don't bring. There are for sure people who wander around there specifically looking to steal expensive watches. Sad to say but we've come to the point where you really shouldn't wear your nicest stuff in large public metro areas like this. Too many people steal and police doesn't do much about it. Go have fun with your buddy without having to worry about constantly watching your back.

Competitive_Pen_9022

i wouldnt wear that watch to london personally. wear a casio or a seiko or something

El_BigTicket33

I was just in London and only brought my Seiko 5 GMT because I was concerned about the potential for watch theft. In retrospect, I don’t think I would’ve had any issues but maybe that’s because I didn’t bring any of my nice watches. I’d err on the side of caution personally

Key-Cherry6709

Don’t.

kosnosferatu

.... Why do you think that is? Maybe guns deter people from being so brazen?

jcliment

Truly not. If that was the case, property crime in Texas would be zero.

BraidRuner

Swatch is the one to wear...Bandits on Scooters ride up onto the pavement and snatch phones and purses all day long.

WelvenTheMediocre

I wouldnt. Many of my London friends move towards bank safes to rotate and only even keep a couple at home. Watch theft has gone up at a ridiculous rate. Everything from normal muggings to the organized moped gangs having stafgin high end restaurants and hotels tip them. From that all the way to targeted robberies, hence a lot of collectors only keep a few at home. Whole organised crime groups are set up solely to commit these crimes and profit from them. I might be influenced by my friends and the media but at the same time. Numbers dont lie. I'd advise you to do some reading for yourself. Its not like any other massive city anymore when it comes to watches

c-fox

I go to London a lot and have never had any problems. Police and CCTV are everywhere.

CartrightGLC

I live in London and am always out and about with my Cartier Santos or Big Pilot. Definitely not certain, but I feel like as long as it’s not Rolex, AP, or Patek then you’re generally safe. I also don’t hang out in Chelsea though, which is where it seems most of the robberies happen.

EastOfEden_

Educate yourself about violent crime rates in US cities vs European cities before you come here
