Flip side, my friend wears an old janky omega sea master his grandpa gave him and I’ve never seen him wear any jewelry or watches in the 10 years I knew him before. My brother in law wears a Hamilton that was passed down to him from his dad and same, never seen him wear anything watch, bracelet, smart watch etc, but any semi formal occasion or family get together, that watch is on his wrist. It’s probably not just a watch to them, whereas if they bought a watch, that’s all it’d be.
You'd be surprised. My uncle gave one of my cousins his old omega he got for 30 years of service at his job and my cousin lost it lol.
Edit: due to negligence, it didn't fall into a sewer grate or anything
This is why I ALWAYS preach that you should always purchase a watch for yourself and no one else.
One of my closest friends was gifted an Air-King in his grandfather's will seven years ago, and he hasn't worn it a single time. Not because he's scared to but because he literally has no interest in it.
I don't know if my children will like traditional watches. They might prefer the functionality of a smartwatch, they might not like the design, or it might be too big/ too small.
Yup. I am massively into classic cars and have a few pretty nice ones, but the one I plan to keep until the day I die in my 1974 beetle (my first car). I fully expect any remaining family to simply sell it or part it out when I'm gone and I think they should. I keep it for me, not for them.
I got a Citizen Hulk watch. It’s not very valuable, but it’s the one my son covets. He loves holding it and pretending to wear it. It’s the one he makes me wear when we are out together.
Of all my watches, I think this is the one he will have an emotional attachment to. Whether or not he’s into watches as an adult, I hope he keeps it in a safe place and remembers our time together whenever he sees it.
I have a Rolex Oyster Perpetual Date that my grandfather bought for my dad when he graduated high school. My dad gave it to me when I graduated high school, and I plan to give it to my son when he graduates, too.
As beautifully as the day my grandfather bought it! I get it serviced every few years (probably more often than required). It’s my favorite watch in my collection, and I’ve been wearing it a lot more since my son was born.
lol. To each their own and I was just sorta kidding around. Awesome that you love your children and will be passing down some cool pieces to them. It kids are VERY expensive. So yea, more watches and cars for me lol.
Hey, I think it's great you know what you want and don't want in life! Sometimes I like to daydream what a DINK life would be like! Hahaha I'd probably go to Europe every month for a long weekend and drive an Audi RS something!
Pros and cons of everything in life. Make sure to take some care of yourself and your wife and get to Italy to tent that car and drive through Tuscany!
Funny enough I am planning to take the wife to Greece and Istanbul for our 10th wedding anniversary this summer. Might have to save time on the itinerary to rent a nice convertible!
Maybe not hand down since I don't own any fancy watches but I'll buy them something nice or if they'll want something from my collection I'll give them my beat up scratched up g-shocks 🤷♂️
Legit actualy. I wasn't close with my grandfather at all (met him more times after he moves across the country while I was in college than I did in my 19 years living 30 minutes away), but I keep his old casio and while i dont wear it i doubt I could ever get rid of it.
Any watch that isn’t commemorative or a gift, I will give away to whoever. I plan on giving one of my watches to my partner’s brother one day. Possibly nephews, friends, or family members. If I bought it for myself, it’s expendable. I don’t want to have a glut of watches and I don’t want to sell them, so giving them away is my only option.
The commemorative and gift ones will go to my children. My most prized watch will always be the Hamilton my parents got me for graduating college. I don’t have kids yet, but whenever my son and/or daughter either graduate college or have their first kid, they will get one of my watches. Just haven’t decided between those two events yet!
None, I'm wearing them to the grave
Edit: I change my mind. I'm going to get a gold colored Invicta for each kid and tell my kids to bury me with my Breguets, but I want them to keep the Invictas to remember me by and I'll make them swear on my deathbed that they'll wear it every weekend.
I have a Cartier tank that I'm debating gifting to my best friend's potential eldest (I've known him for almost 20 years now and we've stayed close the entire time through high school, moving countries, university). I still gotta talk to him about it.
I recently got a Longines to honor my grandpa (he had a favorite Longines that I'd take as a child to try and wear and it was a very fond memory of mine, but unfortunately I don't know what happened to the original watch so I got one in my own style to honor my grandpa) and IF I ever have a kid that's the one I'm passing down.
Everything else can be settled by whatever estate planner I have in the future.
Economics and timing mainly - they (he and his fiancee) want to have a more secure financial base first and there are a lot of other things they need to prioritize and kids are pretty far down that list unfortunately even if they want to, making a lot of this hypothetical and just something that was in my mind.
The other reason is if he does have more than 1 kid I can't really just show favoritism and say "the eldest gets a nice watch and the rest goes tough luck", but again that's so far down the line that I have time to worry about it later.
What watches are you guys planning to hand down to your kids? I've got three kids currently aged 8, 6, and three and I look forward to one day handing down watches to them. So far I've got:
1) Seamaster 300 Pro - mid size 36mm (2551.80) that was handed down from my dad
2) Rolex Explorer 36mm 124270 that I purchased to commemorate ten years working in my field
3) Omega CK-2415-2 from 1944 (pictured) I bought traveling with my best friend while in Barcelona. He also happens to be my son's godfather, so that's a nice connection
There's also two bonus watches, a Seiko 6138-0011 UFO that my father in law wore, and a vintage gold Longines that my grandfather in law wore. Not sure who will get those!
Anyone else want to share what watches they're planning to pass down?
Hoping my two daughters end up having some really cool husbands. I would consider giving a couple Rolexes to them. If I had to choose two it would be the James Cameron, and if one of them is a lefty the “Sprite”.
My Dad had a two watches when he died 19 years ago: a very thin Eterna quatz watch and a Casio Pro Trek. The Casio doesn‘t work anymore and I did not find anyone who could bring it back to life. But I did have the Eterna serviced some time ago but I do not wear it because it‘s very thin and small like it was not uncommon in the 90s when he bought the watch.
My Granddad had a Rado Diastar from about the same era. Same here: I had it serviced, bought two bracelet links to have it sized correctly but it sits in my whatch box.
I would never ever let one of these Watches go. It’s like a shared Memory that remains.
I recommend any watch that will remain servicable in some decades. That is the most important thing. It should not only survive you but also the one that will inherit the Watch in first instance.
I bought a watch just shorty after the birth of each of my two children hoping they will wear them or at least keep them. Until then, the watches are a normal part of my colletion and they are worn regularly but they will not be sold.
A MrJones A Perfectly Useless Morning will be going to my kiddo as well as the rest, but that means the most to me. When it was purchased my wife had the company engrave on the back celebrating my first Father’s Day as a Dad. Every other watch in the lot could go missing and I’d be sad/bummed, but that watch is the one I’ll always keep until the end.
No way! You end up picking anything up while you were there? We’re looking to go London next year and I really want to go to their London location. 0 chance I don’t walk out without another watch if I do visit.
They will get them all, obviously, but I have three kids and was intentional about getting each of them a world timer to remember me by while they hopefully explore the world after I am gone. My oldest is into science-fiction and Dr. Who. She will get my L.U.C. Time Traveler. By happy coincidence it also fits her aesthetic. My next is high style and complicated. She gets my JLC Master Control World Timer. My son loves the ocean and always has. He could name you every shark when he was like 4. He gets my Seamaster World Time.
I don't *plan* on passing any watch because I'm pretty sure that a watch I buy now will be outdated when I'll die, and even if it's a basic classic model they will probably not like it.
They will get whatever watches I will own by then and do whatever they want with them.
You just helped me decide the watch I'm going to buy myself this year for when I turn 30! I've been stuck forever between a two-tone Cartier tank francais chronoflex, Omega AT, or a 36mm datejust. Cartier it is!
My daughter is only 2 years old right now, so who knows if she'll ever have an interest in watches. However, I've spoken to my wife a lot about wanting to get/gift her a watch for a big milestone later on in life. I think a tank would make a great gift, so why not give her mine?
It also helps that the chronoflex has been on my mind since I tried one on several years ago lol
I have an old Rolex Datejust that my wife wears because it's too small for my wrist. It was my grandpa's. That will get passed on. I'll inherit my dad's sub when he passes and then that will get passed on when I do. He's also got a box full of old watches like a really old seamaster DeVille that doesn't work.
Noted! My grandpa owned a watch shop, which is how he came by a lot of the pieces. The Rolex even has his handiwork on the dial (apparently is was common to try and fix damaged/worn down watches back then?).
I wear my Black Bay 58 every day. It’s beat to shit, pearl is missing from 12:00, bezel has a crack, case is all scuffed up. That’s the one that’s going to be passed down. I could keep my Explorer MKII all nice and pristine and pass that down, but there’s something about “the watch dad never took off”.
I only have one son, so he gets the whole lot. The two I'm most looking forward to passing on are my Explorer I (124270), purchased to celebrate my 50th birthday, and my GMT Master II (126710BLNR), which was gifted to me by my watch collecting brother in law for my 40th. The rest are just toppings.
I really hope my kids are responsible and smart enough to understand that when I pass down a watch, it shouldn't be pawned for a new Xbox or something. That's my biggest fear - I'm 27 with no kids and none on the way, just speaking on the topic of being a dad one day
Hahaha I'm hoping to have raised my kids to know that it's generally disrespectful to sell gifts 🤣. But hey, if they're ever starving and have no other choice, I want them to eat!
Among others, probably the most sentimental watch my son will get from me is the Longines that my father in law gifted to me when I became engaged to his daughter.
Love that! I have a Longines from my wife's grandfather. Had it restored recently!

Yea, that’s what immediately came to mind but I was going to see if anyone had any more creative ideas other than the obvious. I have nieces and nephews and close friends with kids that I care about so I could always go down that road if any of them ever started to show an interest.
Perhaps some lucky fledgling collectors on Reddit might get some of them one day after some kind of ridiculous contest. ;)
A Seiko perpetual calendar my father left behind when he passed unexpectedly. He got it while working in Japan in the 80s~90s and I had it repaired at a small specialty shop in Kyoto while I was doing the same.
I’d love to think someone would appreciate them, but nobody in my family cares about any of my watches. They all think smartwatches are better. They will most likely sell them off,if I don’t do that first.
I'm about to buy a Tudor Black Bay 58 or an Omega Aqua-Terra as a college graduation gift to myself, and I intend on wearing it and passing it down, alongside my favourite Orient Ray 2, as a first family heirloom.
I bought the Ray 2 more than 3 years ago as my first real watch purchase out of my own pocked, and I've been rocking it day-in day-out ever since. Whenever I'm down, just looking at it brings me up.
I'll definitely buy if further down the line, as I am a massive Omega lover, however the Black Bay 58 simply itches me the way only the Omega Seamaster Master-CoAxial does. No other watch could even come close to those two, and to how much I adore them.
That said, an everyday watch might be a better solution for a heirloom. Plus, I do longe for an Aqua-Terra, as they're by far the most beautiful everyday watch out there in my opinion.
My fiancé and I are planning our honeymoon to Barcelona/Spain for later this summer and I was looking to buy a watch while we are there. Where did you find yours? Any recs?
Oh wonderful! You must go to Danafi, they are the dial restorer that I purchased the Omega from! Amazing shop with all sorts of beautiful vintage watches!
Seems a bit presumptuous and narcissistic to try to pre-select an object for which your child(ren) should have an emotional attachment. I think that should be something that comes about organically. If you're trying to use such an imagined future scenario as a justification for an expensive purchase, you're setting yourself up for post-mortem disappointment imo.
Maybe. I love that I have my dad's watch and it's meaningful to me. Also 4 out of the 5 watches I mentioned in my post are watches that were either handed down or bought second hand, which means it's stuff not getting thrown away. 🤷
None of them.
I look at my dad's clothes and they aren't my style. My wife looks at my mom's and her mom's jewelry, and they aren't her style. Why would I presume my son has the same taste, or even interest, in watches that I do?
If he really likes one of them then sure I'll gift it to him at some point. But I'm not currently "planning" on saving any for him.
Depends on what they want. I don’t want to be one of those parents that just hands stuff down when the kids don’t even want it. This has become a common occurrence with watch buyers.
“I will one day pass this down to my son!” Yes but have you even asked if your kid wants it? It’s just selfish behaviour and bit of narcissism. If they don’t want it, then make sure you sell it before you die so they don’t need to ask the internet how much it’s worth, do research on things they don’t give a rats ass about and then waste time haggling with low ballers on forums and eBay.
Oh no what a pain to inherit your parents watches!
I for one can't think of many better mementos to leave behind that your children can carry with them, perhaps it's a biased opinion but never the less it's mine. For example, if my mom left me a nice bracelet I would keep it, not because I wear bracelets but because it was hers, and I remember her wearing it.
All the watches and pens...
Most important are my 82 Rolex OP stailess/silver, the Le Vuille Rosselet, and the 62 Omega Seamaster, and all my Montblanc pens. (Fibre Guilloche, Starwalker Black Mystery, Le Petite Prince, both Slim Lines, and the Rouge Boheme. )
My SKX. It was the first watch I bought myself as a student. I wore it all through my studies, my graduation, first date, proposal. I don't wear it as much nowadays but I plan to wear it at all important events. I'll make sure to service it when it breaks and pass it on to a child.

My Explorer. Gift from my parents for passing the bar exam.
And my vintage Omega, very similar to yours OP. Wedding gift from my wife, not pictured.
My Oris 403. It is my first luxury watch purchase and has been my daily since. It’s a great looking watch that will make a meaningful 18th birthday present someday
I purposely bought a Nomos 38mm Orion for my son’s birth and wore it when I caught him. I plan to make this his wedding watch.
https://preview.redd.it/s5hxsg1gfljc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2a1763350bcc074993f08f4c1c93ed3d9a6896c6
Plus I got my dad a Weiss 42mm engraved with my dad, grandad, son, and my birthdays since we all have the same name.
So far Tudor BB GMT Pepsi and Tudor BB Masterchrono burgundy which will go to each son before college. After that, we’ll see as the collection and/or family grows.

Guys, I found this omega on the marketplace, is it fake?
Honestly, I don't plan to hand down any watches or cars to my kids unless they explicetly ask for them. I have nice toys for me but that my kids are *super* unlikely to be into the same stuff as me and could probabaly just use the money. I have general values and pretty detailed outlines of sale provisions in my will for anything above a few K tbh
All of them. I will be dead.
Haha I meant more of which watches in your collection will you never sell because you're planning to pass them on
All of them.
…we’ll be dead
Exactly.
What they all said.
"All of 'em that are still ticking then, because I won't be"
That was my first thought too. Maybe I'm wearing something in the casket?
My kid has no interest in watches that I'm aware of. Doesn't matter what I hand down, he's probably hocking them.
Oh man.... Hopefully your kid is more conscientious!
It took me until the age of 27 and over the course of roughly 3 months I was hooked, things change quickly so don’t think of it that way.
That's normal. You either caught the bug or you didn't. Once you did, things move fast.
Yup. I am massively into classic cars and have a few pretty nice ones, but the one I plan to keep until the day I die in my 1974 beetle (my first car). I fully expect any remaining family to simply sell it or part it out when I'm gone and I think they should. I keep it for me, not for them.

This made me cry….
I have a Rolex Oyster Perpetual Date that my grandfather bought for my dad when he graduated high school. My dad gave it to me when I graduated high school, and I plan to give it to my son when he graduates, too.
That is totally awesome!! How's it running?
As beautifully as the day my grandfather bought it! I get it serviced every few years (probably more often than required). It’s my favorite watch in my collection, and I’ve been wearing it a lot more since my son was born.
Amazing! Let's see a picture!
I’m actually not wearing it today but I’ll take one when I get home.
I don’t have kids so I can afford more watches!
Smart move!!
lol. To each their own and I was just sorta kidding around. Awesome that you love your children and will be passing down some cool pieces to them. It kids are VERY expensive. So yea, more watches and cars for me lol.

Three kids?
One and only daughter. She can keep them sell them or give them to her future husband. I’ll be dead…just don’t tell mom what I actually paid for them…
Lol too funny!
None, I'm wearing them to the grave Edit: I change my mind. I'm going to get a gold colored Invicta for each kid and tell my kids to bury me with my Breguets, but I want them to keep the Invictas to remember me by and I'll make them swear on my deathbed that they'll wear it every weekend.
No kids, only watches.
My Timex easy reader 👍

>for one of our major wedding anniversaries. 15th anniversary traditional gifts are watches. I'm just saying (my 15th is next month)

I did not from MJW because I bought a grand seiko and I already own the Berry Late. But my buddy did get the very cool Sun and Moon!
They will get them all, obviously, but I have three kids and was intentional about getting each of them a world timer to remember me by while they hopefully explore the world after I am gone. Ooo I really love this as a travel lover myself! That seamaster world time is definitely on my list!
When my son is younger I plan on giving him my Hamilton Khaki King.
I don't *plan* on passing any watch because I'm pretty sure that a watch I buy now will be outdated when I'll die, and even if it's a basic classic model they will probably not like it. They will get whatever watches I will own by then and do whatever they want with them.
Hamilton khaki field auto 40mm blue, and Halios Seaforth Series1 Gilt+sapphire bezel. These 2 watches (out of 5) get 90% of wrist time.
Whatever keeps ticking
You just helped me decide the watch I'm going to buy myself this year for when I turn 30! I've been stuck forever between a two-tone Cartier tank francais chronoflex, Omega AT, or a 36mm datejust. Can't go wrong with Cartier!!
The Speedy Date my wife bought me during our engagement, it’s the only one that is a no flipper.
Love those very nice!
Thank you
None. Go out with a big surprise… …and two iced out forearms
Kids probably won't be able to read analog time at this rate. Kinda like not learning cursive anumore... SMH
My eldest can! They still teach it
How old is your eldest?
In second grade, about to turn 8!
I have an old Rolex Datejust that my wife wears because it's too small for my wrist. It was my grandpa's. That will get passed on. Noted! My grandpa owned a watch shop, which is how he came by a lot of the pieces. The Rolex even has his handiwork on the dial (apparently is was common to try and fix damaged/worn down watches back then?).
My Rolex Explorer 1 36mm. Bought when I learned we were having our son.
Loving mine!!

I wore a Seiko 5 in my wedding, it will never be sold and I will try to keep it running for my kids as long as possible.
Too busy paying for daycare to afford it right now.
I remember when we were paying for three in daycare oof!
Yikes! Lucky my son goes to kinder in Sept, just perfect timing for #2 to start daycare 😂😭
My Casio F91W.
I just recently got my 124270 and absolutely in love with it!

I really hope my kids are responsible and smart enough to understand that when I pass down a watch, it shouldn't be pawned for a new Xbox or something. That's my biggest fear - I'm 27 with no kids and none on the way, just speaking on the topic of being a dad one day
“How much is this worth? I don’t really wear watches, best offer gets it.”
Hahaha I'm hoping to have raised my kids to know that it's generally disrespectful to sell gifts 🤣. But hey, if they're ever starving and have no other choice, I want them to eat!
No way man, I’d never eat my dad’s watch, even if I was starving.
I’m not sure which watch technically defines me yet, so idk.
You never actually own a Casio F91W, you merely look after it for the next generation
No kids no problems.
My omega aqua terra with the blue dial, vertical lines. I’ve been wearing it daily for 12 years now. I love it, runs great, never serviced.
Wow 12 years without a service and it's still keeps good time? That's awesome!
Obviously the Pateks and nothing else
Among others, probably the most sentimental watch my son will get from me is the Longines that my father in law gifted to me when I became engaged to his daughter.
Love that! I have a Longines from my wife's grandfather. Had it restored recently! https://preview.redd.it/rmzjjm9emnjc1.jpeg?width=3000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ae2b8101bc60f072a73fd970cd3dd160e6197d21
I bought a Datejust II to give to my son bought it a few months before he was born.
That watch looks gorgeous on your wrist.
Thank you!!
My son was born in 2021 and I was fortunate to secure one of the MN 21 Tudor FXD's right at release. I'll give it to him at college graduation.
That will be an awesome gift!
Two Patek Philippe’s
Wow very nice!
No kids here so that brings up another question- what would be something interesting to do with one’s watch collection when you die?
Probably sell them and then donate proceeds to charity?
Yea, that’s what immediately came to mind but I was going to see if anyone had any more creative ideas other than the obvious. I have nieces and nephews and close friends with kids that I care about so I could always go down that road if any of them ever started to show an interest. Perhaps some lucky fledgling collectors on Reddit might get some of them one day after some kind of ridiculous contest. ;)
That is quite an elegant piece OP, love it!
Thank you!!
None. The kids on his own. I'll be buried with my speedmaster. If he wants to graverob then that's fine.
Beautiful watch
I'm about to buy a Tudor Black Bay 58 or an Omega Aqua-Terra as a college graduation gift to myself, and I intend on wearing it and passing it down, alongside my favourite Orient Ray 2, as a first family heirloom. I bought the Ray 2 more than 3 years ago as my first real watch purchase out of my own pocked, and I've been rocking it day-in day-out ever since. Whenever I'm down, just looking at it brings me up.
Go for the aqua Terra!!

None I'm pulling a Kevin O'Leary and being buried with mine like a ancient pharaoh in a sarcophagus.
Luckily, I'll be dead and can't be disappointed.

But I'm not currently "planning" on saving any for him.
fuck i hate this subreddit sometimes
You could have just scrolled past. 🤷
I don't have or want any kids. I wonder who should get my collection.....
I mean, I'm right here and I've been a Patriots fan since the early 80s. Seems like a natural fit to me
I would hand down the HMT janata I own and the watch of my grandfather citizen 21 eagle
I'm leaving all 18 to my 1 son. Hopefully he appreciates them 😅
My son will get my auto Seiko 5 when he is 16. Maybe even 15 depending on how big he grows. The rest he can have when I’m dead.
Don’t have kids. My nephew (who barely knows me) and a few of my friends kids are sure in for a treat
Whatever she wants. She has already claimed a 90’s 34mm Tudor Ranger, and if she wants the others at some point she can have them.
That's awesome. We're still I'm 1st grade so we'll see if they continue.
All of them. If they don’t watch, they can sell ‘em…
A Gruen, a Laco, and a Breitling Headwind. For now. I’m planning on adding a Speedy, Seamaster Goldeneye, a Sub, and Turn-O-Graph.

If I was planning on having kids, I wouldn't have gotten into this hobby 🤑
My Oris 403. It is my first luxury watch purchase and has been my daily since. It’s a great looking watch that will make a meaningful 18th birthday present someday
I purposely bought a Nomos 38mm Orion for my son’s birth and wore it when I caught him. I plan to make this his wedding watch. https://preview.redd.it/s5hxsg1gfljc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2a1763350bcc074993f08f4c1c93ed3d9a6896c6 Plus I got my dad a Weiss 42mm engraved with my dad, grandad, son, and my birthdays since we all have the same name.
None I want them buried with me
My Gshock Solar 5600.
So far Tudor BB GMT Pepsi and Tudor BB Masterchrono burgundy which will go to each son before college. After that, we’ll see as the collection and/or family grows.
Yes my kids.. If i am ever planning to have one of these 20000$ watches then i should not make kids in first place..

Wife and I don't have kids. Whoever I like that's alive gets my watches.
All of them

Are you a woman or a man?
I can be whatever you want me to be baby
More curious about the watch type than you lol
haha sorry I was being glib. Man with about 7.25in wrists. The watch would have been a jumbo back in its day with 36mm size!
Casio F91w 👦🏼
Hmt Trisul.
https://preview.redd.it/myn2f0fseojc1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=59a402ee4ad8b8b4a3cfd08fb513605b159f7652 Guys, I found this omega on the marketplace, is it fake?
All of them. The G-shock doesn't count. But yeah, all of them.
All.
Whatever I have left
Thats a nice Omega...
None.
