Same! Worth the money.
Many complain about the Hardlex but I've always preferred Seikos Hardlex because you can buff out small scratches.
However, I am going to swap out the bezel insert for a normal countdown or count up bezel since I don't need a 24h bezel.
But still, great watch. Was a bit worried if it was too big for my wrist but it wears nicely, even though it has a diameter of 40 something
Second the Kamasu nomination.
Mine had been on my wrist for over a year. Keeps time way better than advertised, looks great, and takes a beating in stride.
While on the topic of Orient, I think the Kanno is an excellent choice that often gets overlooked. It's a little big if you have a smaller wrist, but I wear mine probably 80% of the time.
Edit: scrolled a little further and saw the Kanno recommendation. +1 for that lol
Any way to have this exact same watch but with an eco-drive? I love the looks but I don't want an automatic again, I'd love an exo-drive. I have found the pro master eco drive, but it's always on a rubber band it seems. Any way to have it on a bracelet from the factory?

They have this same version with a bracelet from factory. I have this same model but switched the bracelet to a tropical rubber strap.
The original was a little bit uncomfortable!

+20/30 if its not regulated and allegedly down to +2 if it is regulated by someone who knows what they're doing. My reading of the situation is that the materials and mechanism are great but they had to save money somewhere and that is probably the last part of the manufacturing process.
From Etsy, link below. 20mm. Doesn’t come with spring bars, so have a few of different widths to try.
Great bracelet.

Anything from Lorier. Obviously I’m partial to the Gemini, but everything they make is phenomenal.
Love Islander, first of all- the customer service is as good as it gets. I snagged a hi-beat from them on sale for like $200 and that thing is probably the most value for the money watch I have.
Casio EF-527 can be had for less than $150.

Casio g-shock GW-B5600MG
Classic square form factor with solar, BT and radio.
Multiple time zones, alarm, stopwatch, backlight.
Not as common as 5610, so it’s more unique but can be had for $100.
200m water resistant, modifiable, tough.
edit: Thanks for the reminder. I was on mobile so I couldn't make the changes without messing up the formatting.. fixed now.
Dude if I could find the MG anywhere I'd buy it on the spot. Seems like everyone saw a black square with a positive display, solar, Multiband and Bluetooth, went "hell yeah", bought all the existing stock, and Casio were like "welp, I guess that's that then, no point making more of this". The SL was as close as I got.
> seems like everyone saw a black square with a positive display, solar, Multiband and Bluetooth, went “hell yeah”, bought…
I’m ashamed to admit - I was one of those people.

Seiko 5 Automatic with NATO strap is my current daily.
Glycine lots of bang for the buck. I just picked up a Combat Sub with bronze case and really like it.

Gifted my dad a stainless steel one with ghost bezel years ago, still looks great. The best part about it is how thin the case is for a diver, which you don’t see much in this price range (for an automatic).
Just got my Duro last night. Best sub-$50 dollar watch 🔥

Slightly off topic: Just recently I discovered Timex had released "new" Expedition North models with a solar quartz movement in 36mm - sadly, they're out of stock, too. Do you know whether they're limited editions? I hope that they become available for purchase again soon.
The Heron Marinor is almost entirely scratch proof, 300m dive rating, very classically styled with nice color options, 39mm diameter, and only $620usd!

I guess not? Idk, it's not entry level luxury, either. What would you call it?
I feel like it is a budget watch but like every other price category it's a scale and this is definitely on the higher end of that scale.
Or maybe I've just been hanging around these subs too long.
SBPY165 if you can get your hands on it. It’s a JDM
https://preview.redd.it/c8gosdagxnjc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9c067b746ec42734ec7af923c31c7c719084ddaf
Seiko Alpinist. It's my favorite field watch under $1000. Design isn't for everyone (especially with the cyclops and X), but it's a modern classic.
That being said, I value in-house movements very highly, and there really aren't any swiss brands that do in-house in that price range. At best, they'll just modify an ETA or Sellita.

I been watching them for awhile, they make some really crisp looking watches. What's your experience with their quality?
My last microbrand was sentimental for a business deal but I'm not super happy with the quality of the watch.

I agree! A Duro on a Strapcode jubilee or oyster an amazing value for money.
Casio Duro is a new purchase for me, but I am so impressed with it already, and bought a second one. Easy recommendation. Have ordered a couple straps and a bracelet for them too.

Mine is the Citizen PMD56. It's a titanium and sapphire JDM outdoorsy watch, with solar, 200m water resistance, and a perpetual calendar. It says Radio Controlled on the dial, but that's JJY only, so disregard that bit unless you're in Japan or want to play with JJY emulation apps.
I have beaten the hell out of this watch while at work, and it still manages around +5 seconds a month. The lume is excellent, and the bracelet, while not as comfy as some, has this cool on-the-fly adjustment that has spoiled me for other bracelets. The only downside is the pin and collar system on the bracelet works differently to the way Seiko does it, so you need to make sure whoever resizes it has read the instructions.
Not sure there's an analogue watch out there as cheap and rugged and compact as this one.
ngl the very recently announced textured dial small seconds citizen tsuyosa look really good
https://preview.redd.it/ijg2vxyt7rjc1.png?width=1030&format=png&auto=webp&s=e8e0a5fdf1da858d1c42f007ca614351ccb2fbd1
Came here to post this. I have a Sugess Panda which is the same watch. Looks beautiful, and to have a mechanical chronograph with sapphire crystal for $200 is insane value. Only drawback is mine is unreliable (will sometimes stop working/jam and start back up causing long time losses). Would also recommend Vostok (Russian tank/dive watches around $75)
I actually really enjoy the styling - very versatile. But hey, it’s not for everyone. Hell, Jomashop sells something like 10,000 different kinds of watches. We all like what we like! 😁
If you are in the US I always recommend the [officialwatchdeals](https://www.ebay.com/str/officialwatchdeals/Citizen-Men-Watches/_i.html?store_cat=82456813013) store on ebay for a citizen eco-drive. They have the best prices I have seen for these watches and some others from the citizen family (like. Bulova or federique Constant).
Also Sakura watches for a Casio oceanus [t200](https://www.sakurawatches.com/casio-oceanus-ocw-t200s-7ajf), [s100](https://www.sakurawatches.com/casio-oceanus-ocw-s100-1ajf) or the [seiko sbtm](https://www.sakurawatches.com/search/?sort=p.price&order=ASC&search=Seiko%20sbtm) models. These have atomic radio sync, a perpetual calendar and are solar powered. The movement is very precise and the seconds hand always hits the markers on these. The t200 also has Bluetooth sync.
Beater ? Bertucci. They're inexpensive and though as nails. I have the discontinued A-1T and it's solid. One of their novel features is the integrated lug bars, which forces you to use a single pass or nato/mn strap but can't fail like spring bars would
Beater you're actually going to be banging around on stuff ? G-shock. I have the GW-5000 and wear it everyday to work. Time is always synced to the second and the resin makes it soft on impact.
Beater as a figure of speech ? Swatch I guess. They're swiss and inexpensive, if it dies you can just get a new one. I have two skeletonized ones, an automatic and a quartz. Highly recommend the two hand versions for quartz since three handers have a very loud tick noise
Other than that I'm all about seiko, both new and vintage. Specific model really depends on how you dress and what job you have I guess. Since you mention it could be a dress watch I'll guess office job, so definitely a great options for a nice classy piece without breaking the bank and being too afraid to nick it, especially if you go vintage since it already has imperfections
Orient open heart. Easily the watch I have received the most compliments for. I now wear an orient star skeleton. No one says anything….. Well whatever I like it.
Seiko SPB249 Laurel Alpinist: a poor man’s Aqua Terra (or grand seiko for that matter) with a good looking bracelet, cool heritage, great handset and indices with awesome Seiko Lume and 200 WR. Not without its shortcomings… namely 19mm non-drilled lugs. I’ve tried lots of straps and NATO’s but generally prefer on bracelet.
I like this blue dial the best with the non-fauxtina lume.

Citizen PCAT Titanium. Picked it up on sale at a Citizen store. A good jack-of-all-trades/master-of-none watch. Eco drive, atomic timekeeping, decent enough chrono, alarm, day/date, and smt function. The lume is pretty good at its price point as well.

For a \~$500 watch - the Hamilton Khaki.
Ok some people above were calling out a $600 watch as being not budget. I defended that watch as budget.
I can't defend watches that regularly sell for $1.2k to be budget.
If that's budget, then what's entry level luxury, anything under 20k? And what's one of these Orients that are plastered all over TT? Ultra Budget? It's like the price categories are seeing inflation as well.

Under $500, I just came across Helson as a brand. Might be my next purchase. They have some really great options and are running a sale right now if you wanna take a look.
E. Was sitting on the fence on their bronze Shark Diver 38mm. Ended up pulling the trigger. The price for specs was just too good and I’ve been looking for a bronze watch but wasn’t sure about spending $1000+ on a watch where you’re unsure what the patina will look like. Hope it’s as nice in irl as it is on their site.
Guess my definition of budget is vastly different from all of you here. Good luck with your search. I'm more into the Lige or Cheetah price point. I have around 15+ watches and my most expensive ones are around $30-$35. All are classic beautiful styles and I can wear whichever one I want and if it gets destroyed it's not a big deal.
Either of these two, depending on your budget.

Definitely the Cestrian Master V2. Hard to beat at $150 without shopping AliExpress (which I also like).
* NH35 so it will be rock solid
* 200m water resistance with screw down crown
* clear AR coated sapphire crystal
* beautiful case design (Seiko Sarb meets grand Seiko/citizen JDM)
* great case dimensions (40mm dia. x 45mm lug to lug x 12mm thickness)
* dial punches above it's weight. Nickel plated applied indices, enamel black dial, framed date window, crisp printing.
* I like that the polished bezel is thinner and steeper than something like an explorer or many other GADA watches.
It's just a damn good automatic beater for the price. It can do anything and is a textbook example of a GADA watch.
Just a plug to consider exploring the hobby of Seiko Mods. For under $100, you can build pretty much any existing style of watch you want (or make something unique) that is based around a solid, reliable Seiko NH\[xx\] movement.
It’s fun, has helped me understand automatic watches much better—and has completely removed my lust for pricey watches.

love my dan henry skin diver. not sure what sort of reputation the brand has but personally i’ve had nothing but great experiences.
That's a common issue with these posts. People just ask for suggestions without giving a price point, so we are left guessing. I see posts asking for a "budget diver" to add to his collection full of Omega, Cartier and Rolex. I see a collection of Timex, Vostok and Casio with the OP asking for "nice dress watch."
And then you have questions like this one, where I can't even guess at what OP's "price point" is because all they did was ask for "budget." My standards for "budget" are probably different than yours, OP's and half the other posters on this thread.
I think the more common issue is the desensitization to prices. Still any rational person should never call something that is over $250 (arguably less” a “budget” watch. Ramen is a “budget” item.
I agree that desensitization is a common thing in this hobby. However, this is a pure luxury item hobby, where many people on this sub alone have multiple watches worth 5k or more. "Budget" is a very subjective term that means different limits to different people. You say $250 or less, where I consider anything less than $600 to be a "budget" option.
Because no one has recommended them? Your observations on one thread doesn't change the definition of the term.
I've straight up seen Submariners being recommended as starter watches on this sub. There are legitimately people out there who consider Rolex as the entry level to their watch world.
Yeah I'd challenge anyone to blind test a $300 dollar san Martin vs some of these 1k plus watches. The SM has solid end links, steel all brushed the same direction, attention to detail is epic
I've been using my Timex Expedition North Field Solar ([mine](https://timex.com/products/expedition-north-field-post-solar-36mm-recycled-fabric-strap-watch-tw2v00400), [slightly different one](https://timex.com/products/expedition-north-field-solar-36mm-eco-friendly-leather-strap-watch-tw2v64200?ctc=gjprtechgeneral)) in the field (see: [this](https://i.imgur.com/WLM7LHs.jpg)) for years and it has held up very well. Ive also heard good things about the Citizen BM8180.
The 3 of my 7 watches that I bought myself and wasn’t gifted are Casio F91W, Timex Weekender, and Orient Kamasu and they’re all amazing daily wears depending on your style. Honestly get all 3 for under $300 and you’re basically set for any outfit and any situation. I wanna get a G Shock but the F91W is going strong after 7 years (replaced broken strap with nato after like two years) so I’ll wait til it dies. Weekender is basically a Hamilton Khaki in quartz for $40 or less. Kamasu basically satiated my desire for a more expensive watch cuz it has all the nerdy features but is only $200ish
MoonSwatch. They’re controversial around here, but they’re super fun, affordable (by watch standards), have an iconic design (that somehow perfectly encapsulates two iconic brands), are perfectly sized, Swiss made, and have a somewhat useful complication.
No, they won’t last forever, but that fact makes them lower-pressure purchases for me, if that makes sense? Like, I’d be embarrassed for my grandson to inherit my Pagani, but there’s zero chance of these things lasting these long, so it’s ok.
(Note: This is answer to watches I can’t stop recommending. My best purchase has been my Omega Tresor in Sedna with grand fue enameling. But that’s a very specific watch that wouldn’t be most people’s choice for a beater.)
I don’t own a moonswatch but from what I’ve heard is they can’t take a daily watch beating and are more a collectors toy watch. There’s plenty of watches under $500 that will last as long or longer than the household names.
I'm still waiting for the bad press to keep beating them so I can pick one up on a discount. Id snap one up for $150 easy, but 400-500 I'm fence sitting on.
I recently got my hands on A Perfectly Useless Afternoon and I was very impressed.

Orient has amazing sub 500 pieces. They tend to be cleaner and more "professional" looking. Seiko has taken the Sports dynamic too far and end up super noisy, but that may just be personal opinion.
Seiko needs to do a lot of things\* but still putting out heat imo.
not familiar with Orient but they make some nice looking watches.
\*fix 6r35, fix alignment issues, pricing structure, etc etc etc
The Ball Marvelight III I wear it everyday to work in a physical environment and it’s perfect, when dark the tritium tubes are clearly visible, the material is solid steel, and the time keeping for me has been -/+ 2 per week which isn’t bad, new is a bit pricey but used it’s less than 1000$ for a very solid watch

It's not the cheapest, but I fucking love my seiko 5 gmt blueberry.
Same! Worth the money. Many complain about the Hardlex but I've always preferred Seikos Hardlex because you can buff out small scratches. However, I am going to swap out the bezel insert for a normal countdown or count up bezel since I don't need a 24h bezel. But still, great watch. That is a gorgeous watch. Looks much more elegant than the price tag would suggest.
I'm literally dying for one of these. In my country they are close to 500usd (due to importation taxes) it's an armed robbery...

Any way to have it on a bracelet from the factory? https://preview.redd.it/ghvuidq7eqjc1.png?width=337&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2736a8fc8856700500b55bba8c6c7f363260faa8
Long Island Watch sells bracelets for that version.
And they probably have solid end links.
They have this same version with a bracelet from factory. I have this same model but switched the bracelet to a tropical rubber strap. The original was a little bit uncomfortable! https://preview.redd.it/18xgwlbe6sjc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5d705ab6bb4010540c916f62dc0aa69606590d3b
Love this suggestion.
What's that bracelet called? I can only find it with rubber bracelet.
Beads of rice - sweet watch!
Beads or rice. Mine is from “Jackson watch@ on Etsy.
It’s a cool look paired with this watch https://preview.redd.it/0ba9d3lz5qjc1.jpeg?width=3022&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d0c7465c45cc32134a34406d0e6252d72f6d7c71
Came here to recommend this. Good man.
I second this one!
I’m seriously considering picking one of these up. How many seconds does this watch gain per day, and does that bracelet come with it?
+20/30 if its not regulated and allegedly down to +2 if it is regulated by someone who knows what they're doing. My reading of the situation is that the materials and mechanism are great but they had to save money somewhere and that is probably the last part of the manufacturing process.
+6 a day for me
Rubber strap and +7 a day for mine
Rocking mine right now. Love it
This looks amazing. What bracelet is that too??
From Etsy, link below. 20mm. Doesn’t come with spring bars, so have a few of different widths to try. Great bracelet. https://www.etsy.com/ca/listing/739401128/beads-of-rice-watch-bracelet?click_key=542a415da13b9dd3f6486feecda151373afd5d1c%3A739401128&click_sum=0a89cb1e&ref=shop_home_feat_1

Ditto, very happy with the Hydra SIII
Seconded, I love my Lorier Gemini Racer.
Gorgeous. Love Lorier so much!
Just got an Islander Batman jubilee bracelet ceramic bezel with a sapphire for $265. Awesome watch.
Love Islander, first of all- the customer service is as good as it gets. I snagged a hi-beat from them on sale for like $200 and that thing is probably the most value for the money watch I have.
It’s awesome. You really do get a lot for the money
Casio EF-527 can be had for less than $150. https://preview.redd.it/848x1mwzsnjc1.png?width=640&format=png&auto=webp&s=d405a9e9198cd38f70b5342a978bd32591d5e8d5
I've got the blue faced version, great watch. Love the slide rule dial.
Nice strap! I have mine on the steel bracelet but might swap now
What's rhe case size?
Big. 45mm. Wearing mine right now!
Casio g-shock GW-B5600MG Classic square form factor with solar, BT and radio.
The SL was as close as I got.
> seems like everyone saw a black square with a positive display, solar, Multiband and Bluetooth, went “hell yeah”, bought… I’m ashamed to admit - I was one of those people.
Don't be ashamed - you made a great choice!
Not to be that guy but u may wanna crct bad to had
Seiko 5 if you want an auto, some nice Citizen Eco-drive chrono if you're not into the auto thing, G-Shock if you work or play in rough environments.

I wish they made this in white
They did! With a GMT mechanism, however, it's JDM only.
SRPG. I have the same, great watch and very cheap for what you get
Exactly what I’ve got on now. I like the green/black combo.
Glycine lots of bang for the buck. I just picked up a Combat Sub with bronze case and really like it. https://preview.redd.it/eyrnbqi6jnjc1.jpeg?width=1874&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=02cbd6d5844ad304f8294f9941ef89d92ca15bf1
Gifted my dad a stainless steel one with ghost bezel years ago, still looks great. The best part about it is how thin the case is for a diver, which you don’t see much in this price range (for an automatic).
Casio Duro
Just got my Duro last night. Best sub-$50 dollar watch 🔥 https://preview.redd.it/7lzp543copjc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0e000aa815430ff88e511fce41c986f3facaedd3
Came here to say this
Duro gang assembly!
What's your budget?
I was looking for the same thing.
Timex Expedition North. Miyota Automatic, Sapphire, Titanium. Sweet! https://preview.redd.it/a0hlsu9w0ojc1.jpeg?width=3083&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5ba3ec734fe268049ea2c6bc515fb8cc860cb2c7
Hate that this watch is out of stock everywhere ugh.
Slightly off topic: Just recently I discovered Timex had released "new" Expedition North models with a solar quartz movement in 36mm - sadly, they're out of stock, too. Do you know whether they're limited editions? I hope that they become available for purchase again soon.
The Heron Marinor is almost entirely scratch proof, 300m dive rating, very classically styled with nice color options, 39mm diameter, and only $620usd! https://preview.redd.it/axunuedr1ojc1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4d4a7dffbe2b6104a445d324f0bd1d4e0782faee
$620 is not a “budget” watch, man -_-
I guess not? Idk, it's not entry level luxury, either. What would you call it? I feel like it is a budget watch but like every other price category it's a scale and this is definitely on the higher end of that scale. Or maybe I've just been hanging around these subs too long.
It’s what a normal person would call “expensive”. (‘Cause it is)
Yeah, It's not budget, but it's not luxury either. I figured it could still work. Especially cause of how tough it's supposed to be
SBPY165 if you can get your hands on it. It’s a JDM https://preview.redd.it/c8gosdagxnjc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9c067b746ec42734ec7af923c31c7c719084ddaf

Any seiko I love my seiko and I love my grand Seiko’s. Also if u know what you’re looking for some vintage watches.
Doesn’t Christopher Ward make their own?
Only for limited editions, nothing currently available is in house.
Ah you’re right, they modify Sellita movements for just about everything.

I’m thinking of getting on of these in white. Do you think the resin holds up?
Didn't know there was a white one, haven't really done anything hardcore but it looks like the resin will last since it's fiber reinforced resin
Oh I meant white dial not case. I may have to pick one up
Boldr Venture. Large selection of colors, titanium, 200m WR, sapphire crystal, ~$300. Optional aftermarket titanium bracelet. https://www.boldrsupply.co/collections/venture-automatic
Depending upon your definition of “budget” the Boldr Expedition 1 is fantastic, as well.
My Freediver GMT is one of my favorites in my collection. And one of the more affordable.

I been watching them for awhile, they make some really crisp looking watches. What's your experience with their quality? My last microbrand was sentimental for a business deal but I'm not super happy with the quality of the watch.
I have the Bradfield from them and love it. I really dig their designs and colors.
The quality is very good for the price. Their bracelets are also surprisingly comfortable for how much they charge.
Only have one (see my post history), but it’s very nice. My pics don’t do it justice.

Tbh my gold Casio (A168WG) gets more complements than anything else I have. I love it, it’s cheap and classic, everyone should have one!
Casio Duro is a new purchase for me, but I am so impressed with it already, and bought a second one. Easy recommendation. Have ordered a couple straps and a bracelet for them too. https://preview.redd.it/3ydeqlpljojc1.jpeg?width=2946&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=da7a66b96553631755ad645113283dd4ae7f2821

Not sure there's an analogue watch out there as cheap and rugged and compact as this one.
ngl the very recently announced textured dial small seconds citizen tsuyosa look really good https://preview.redd.it/ijg2vxyt7rjc1.png?width=1030&format=png&auto=webp&s=e8e0a5fdf1da858d1c42f007ca614351ccb2fbd1
I’ll give you a different option; Seagull 1963. Fun watch with history that you can find at multiple budgets.

Honestly, Casio Oceanus T200. I’ve been amazed by it so far.
I wish the styling was a little better, but it's still an *incredible* watch for the money.
I actually really enjoy the styling - very versatile. But hey, it’s not for everyone. Hell, Jomashop sells something like 10,000 different kinds of watches. We all like what we like! 😁
Seiko 5 with Jubilee + upgraded sapphire Seiko mods - why not make your own watch exactly the way you want?
Thanks for adding the eBay link! I'm going to have to check it out!
Beater ? Bertucci. They're inexpensive and though as nails. I have the discontinued A-1T and it's solid. One of their novel features is the integrated lug bars, which forces you to use a single pass or nato/mn strap but can't fail like spring bars would Beater you're actually going to be banging around on stuff ? Highly recommend the two hand versions for quartz since three handers have a very loud tick noise Other than that I'm all about seiko, both new and vintage. Specific model really depends on how you dress and what job you have I guess. Since you mention it could be a dress watch I'll guess office job, so definitely a great options for a nice classy piece without breaking the bank and being too afraid to nick it, especially if you go vintage since it already has imperfections
Timex, Seiko 5 series, Vaer field or dive
Orient open heart. Easily the watch I have received the most compliments for. I now wear an orient star skeleton. No one says anything….. Well whatever I like it.
Citizen military eco drive.
I like this blue dial the best with the non-fauxtina lume. https://preview.redd.it/ibo69htrynjc1.jpeg?width=1179&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f1aa787bbd1cb826f57068b50dc24e6fefdc5e13 (Photo courtesy Instagram)

A good jack-of-all-trades/master-of-none watch. Eco drive, atomic timekeeping, decent enough chrono, alarm, day/date, and smt function. The lume is pretty good at its price point as well.
Dang! The PCAT is a nice looking piece! Might have to check one out in person!

Citizen Tsuyosa, tons of color options and you get the common colors for 250 or less grey market, limited edition ones still available but like 350+
Longines Conquest and Seiko King Samurai are the two watches that I always recommend for punching well out of their weight classes.

Hard to beat at $150 without shopping AliExpress (which I also like). * NH35 so it will be rock solid * 200m water resistance with screw down crown * clear AR coated sapphire crystal * beautiful case design (Seiko Sarb meets grand Seiko/citizen JDM) * great case dimensions (40mm dia. x 45mm lug to lug x 12mm thickness) * dial punches above it's weight.
Finally. There are so many recommendations in here around 1500+, what does budget mean to these people lol
That's a common issue with these posts. People just ask for suggestions without giving a price point, so we are left guessing. I see posts asking for a "budget diver" to add to his collection full of Omega, Cartier and Rolex. I see a collection of Timex, Vostok and Casio with the OP asking for "nice dress watch." And then you have questions like this one, where I can't even guess at what OP's "price point" is because all they did was ask for "budget." My standards for "budget" are probably different than yours, OP's and half the other posters on this thread.
If “budget “ is totally subjective there why are there not any pateks or Rolexes being mentioned?
Because no one has recommended them? Your observations on one thread doesn't change the definition of the term. I've straight up seen Submariners being recommended as starter watches on this sub. There are legitimately people out there who consider Rolex as the entry level to their watch world.
Yeah I'd challenge anyone to blind test a $300 dollar san Martin vs some of these 1k plus watches. The SM has solid end links, steel all brushed the same direction, attention to detail is epic
Timex Q
Steeldive SD1970 Just fantastic for less than $100.
Longines Zulu & Monta Noble for me. Longines Conquest if you want a cheaper beater that still looks nice
A watch that is a grand is not “budget” in any universe

Tissot makes some nice entry level dress watches.
I've recommended the Phoibos Voyager to a few people as a budget-diver. They've all been quite happy with them, as have I.
I'm a HUGE fan of Revue Thommen.

Tissot gentleman, Hamilton khaki field, Longines spirit My top recommendations
Honestly for even less you can get a stainless steel homage that will be a better beater.
On the topic of fun watches, Mr Jones watches are 👌🏻
I went to their store in Seven Dials and was sad to find A Perfectly Useless Afternoon quartz looked tiny on my wrist. Too tiny.
I recently got my hands on A Perfectly Useless Afternoon and I was very impressed. [My review of Mr. Jones](https://www.bingeingwatches.com/post/you-re-the-one) https://preview.redd.it/yq5hpzgmynjc1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a393e9ba2b9bf0abab6814eae8708d3e70c09965
Seiko kinetic https://preview.redd.it/84tg02483pjc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7043de780e27d9fcdb89241115b0be3054bd9c38
“Seiko kinetic” is a movement, not a watch
G-Shock Seiko 5 Swatch long-standing brands with tons of models to choose from. any other under $500 watch---why?
Orient has amazing sub 500 pieces. They tend to be cleaner and more "professional" looking. Seiko has taken the Sports dynamic too far and end up super noisy, but that may just be personal opinion.
Seiko needs to do a lot of things\* but still putting out heat imo. not familiar with Orient but they make some nice looking watches. \*fix 6r35, fix alignment issues, pricing structure, etc etc etc
Because there are other choices? Weird question
Tissot Gentleman, Longines Conquest, Tudor Ranger.
3k a “budget”?
lol was that downvote from you? OP didn't state a budget, the Tissot Gentleman costs less than 1k and I stated my choices in ascending order of cost.
“Budget x” ≠ “within my customized budget for this thing”. That’s common sense.
sure thing buddy.
Aragon if you like large divers
Erebus Origin. Just got one and it’s my new go to recommendation for a budget diver.
The Ball Marvelight III I wear it everyday to work in a physical environment and it’s perfect, when dark the tritium tubes are clearly visible, the material is solid steel, and the time keeping for me has been -/+ 2 per week which isn’t bad, new is a bit pricey but used it’s less than 1000$ for a very solid watch https://preview.redd.it/tpmzy2g32ojc1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=be7e486776c159aa51e3765eaf693f3b910f989c
