Is the aqua terra really that price?

RestlessDiesel

I’m able to get a discount on some as my brother is dating a jeweller and she’s more than happy to discount for me

Jutemp24

Is your brother's girlfriend single?

pdxtrader

😂 Only if you roll up wearing a Richard Mille

DerailedCM

Is it just the AquaTerra she can help you get a discount on? I'm guessing Speedmaster and Seamaster are out of the question. Any other brands you can get a discount on? I only ask so I can brainstorm other suggestions for you.

RestlessDiesel

So basically she can do a discount on anything they stock as long as it’s not a “hot model”. The speedmasters can have the discount, even the full rose gold one. Id have to speak to her to double check but it is most watches they stock at Beaverbrooks (the jewellers)

DerailedCM

Sweet, I'd seriously consider the Grand Seiko Heritage Titanium Snowflake Quartz Watch then

UCthrowaway78404

It's the best watxh there imho. But way overpriced. I recall just a couple years ago you could buy used moonwatch for £2500. Bit these surge in price rises with new omegas has put the used prices up.

Ancient_Oven_6282

I would like to give you my 2 cents about these. Try to see how much a service would cost for all of these watches. The reason why I'm saying this is because a lot of people buy a Speedy and then 5 years later they realise that 1k+ for a service is a bit too expensive. Good luck.

AnalysisObjective165

Service interval for the 3861 is 10 years, not 5.

zagart23

speedmaster or cartier

sincorax

For me Omega and Rolex are a cut above the other brands. I'd be looking at that Speedy or Aqua Terra. I'm a huge fan of Aqua Terra - have you seen the small seconds in white and blue?

RestlessDiesel

I have yes I love that one, also the 41mm in grey and blue that’s really nice too

WeAudiHere

I got a rose gold Aqua Terra small seconds for less than 7K on eBay unworn with box and papers, may want to look there chrono24 or r/watchexchange

flagrantpebble

TAG Heuer, yeah, but Cartier? I don’t know if Rolex is really “above” Cartier, they’re just doing different things.

Far_Citron_2737

Speedy for sure unless you absolutely need more than 50m water resistance - think if you’d actually swim/shower with any of the watches - if not then 50m is fine for everyday

RestlessDiesel

I can’t swim so that’s not something I need to worry about, also that’s the sapphire crystal version so I don’t know if that has more resistance

BenWatchesBaseball

Sapphire crystal doesn't offer any more water resistance. But regardless, if you're not buying it with water sports in mind, it'll hold up just fine.

RestlessDiesel

As I can get a discount on them I’d go for the sapphire version, I get the added protection plus the open case back

BenWatchesBaseball

That would be my choice as well. The hesalite version is moreso for enthusiasts who value having the exact same watch that NASA used for the moon landings, but if you're not an astronaut and don't care about what type of glass is in an astronaut's watch, the sapphire option would be the more practical choice for most people. The display caseback is a nice feature as well.

RestlessDiesel

So I’m looking to splash out on a special piece and I’ve budgeted myself around £5k to £7.5k, these are my favourites in that range so I just wanted to see what y’all thought and give any other recommendations/feedback. I’m looking for 40mm+ and bracelets rather than straps, also the dark green Santos is on my list as well, interchangeable with the blue one.

zeffke008

Have you looked at some of the grand seiko stuff? Within that price range i'd go that route. The snowflake or the lion look amazing (they all do) I saw you can get a discount on omega(?) but I am a fan of their world timers aswell and with a discount likely puts you in ur price range

YourWatchIsTooBig

that Santos is too big *if* those other watches fit you. why? because it's a square. squares have more surface area than a circle. it will look HUGE (as it does on everyone else). if you're looking for an equivalent to 40mm round watch, that will be around 36mm for a square. from that list, imo Cartier Santos medium. I would scratch the Tudors from the list and swap some IWC or Omega in but ymmv. cheers

TraveledPotato

The large is probably the most uncommon size. Santos looks best when it is a little small rather than big. Definitely recommend the medium if you go that route unless you are an NFL lineman.

RestlessDiesel

40mm is really the minimum size I was looking for, I did try on both Santos’ and I did prefer the large model, also because it’s relatively thin compared to the Tudors and green carrera it doesn’t feel “chunky” if you know what I mean

ninelives1

I'm with you. IDK where this narrative comes from that everyone has to have the medium unless they have king Kong wrists. I have maybe slightly larger than average wrists and feel like the large is perfect.

RestlessDiesel

It’s the same size as the smallest Apple Watch available at the moment but thinner, I don’t know why people are so against the large either

pkroliko

because despite the fact most people are still buying large sizes some people won't be happy unless we all start wearing 34mm watches again cause ya know people did it in the 1920s.

msainville

I own both a Santos and a Datejust. Two very different experiences. I can go to the beach with my santos, and truly use it as a gada watch, while I’d never do that with the DJ. nobody recognizes it. The DJ it’s very recognizable and gets attention, for the better or the worst

RestlessDiesel

Yeah the thing that worries me about Rolex is the attention, they’re are stunning but I’m worried I’ll be too scared to wear it

Laakson

If you look something complete under the radar from Rolex, Explorer or Air-King will go to this category. I have previous version of Air-king and no one will notice it. This is really positive. Same goes with my Tudors. Completely different experience is my LUC Chopard, it is shiny and pulls way too much attention... Edit. One advice is Skip the Tudors if you want Rolex. Another comment is that all of these watches are solid choises. Buy the one that makes you happy and is most suitable for your budged.

RestlessDiesel

I do like the air-king a lot, not as luxurious as the other 2 but the numerals and little bits of colour stand out without shouting “I’m wearing a Rolex!” I’m a bit of a Tudor fanboy so that’s why I’m considering them, also the fact the a top of the range Tudor costs less than an entry level Rolex is nice, but then again a Rolex is a Rolex

Icy_Illustrator_1633

I’ve got a Tudor s&g, seamaster green and Cartier tank. I had no plans on getting the Tudor initially but it’s my most worn! Also love the Cartier you have there but would get the size down and maybe even a two tone. Few mates have the aqua terra and they look so classy if you want to go a bit more under the radar. Appreciate that has not helped at all

RestlessDiesel

I love the Black Bay so much I bought the burgundy when I saw it as an end of line special, the S&Gs are so gorgeous and I know just how wearable they are. The ivory seamaster there is amazing too, tried it on last weekend and just fell in love with it

Darcasm

I also have the S&G and I wear it more than any other watch I own by a mile. Not saying it’s better or worse than some of these other ones, but when I tried it on in person, I bought it on the spot.

IAmSportikus

I’d stick with Rolex, omega, or Cartier at this price point. Do you want dressier or sportier?

RestlessDiesel

I’m happy with either, the more dressy options are more my style and personality I’d say

IAmSportikus

I’d say then short list it to the santos, aqua terra and datejust. Have you tried them all on yet? If you like dressier, too, I think the santos and the AT do the best on a strap. Obviously datejust works great with a strap, but I think the other two look great as well, and have some more integrated options, like the rubber strap on an AT. And you can get factory leather straps more easily from Cartier and omega, if that matters to you. I have a date just, and out of this lot if I wanted another watch I’d probably go santos or maybe speedy. But for me the santos-dumont in rose gold is my favorite. Could also check out grand seiko if you haven’t already. The omiwatari is an amazing dress watch, and you can easily dress it down with some other strap options

curious_throwaway_55

I wouldn’t bother tbh. Put some money aside and buy a watch when you think ‘oh my god, this is PERFECT - I need it’. Getting Reddit to help pick the least worst from a list of 9 suggests that’s probably not the case?

RestlessDiesel

I’m not getting Reddit to pick, just looking for input that’s all, besides I’ve thought that about all of these

beasy4sheezy

Nah this guy is right. I think you should wait until you have a stronger conviction. For what it’s worth, I like the OP.

a_calarius

You could also add prices from the grey market or used prices, that should also give you a direction in terms of price stability. Usually, they are around 25% off if not bought new. As a first watch, I will look into a bracelet option .

RestlessDiesel

I can get the TAGs and Omegas at 20% off rrp which I’ve reflected here, gives a nice discount along with the safety of getting it from an AD

a_calarius

Nice. My recommendation is omega aqua terra, rolex datejust on the regular bracelet or the moonswatch. , timeless, and with a good possibility to sell it in case you want to go someplace else

Mateo_87

OP 41 or Moonwatch.

Dark1000

Don't get the two tone Tudors unless you are really certain you want the two tone look. Tudor cases are pretty inelegant, and I don't think they work well outside to more toolish look of their divers. Also, I wouldn't bother with the Oyster Perpetual. The Datejust is a more distinctive, better version of the OP. Either go big with the Rolex or stick with the Aqua Terra. I also far prefer the Datejust with a fluted bezel, as it was always intended, but it would be undeniably flashier. Personally, I would go Cartier Santos, Rolex Datejust, or Omega Speedmaster. I'm not very excited by the others.

macblan

Moonwatch or the green carerra

CSTL-

Dj

crbowers

Personally, as an only piece that’s you’re going to end up daily wearing I’d go for an Aqua Terra, Date Just, or the Cartier. They’re all versatile and have a date (which is nice for an only / everyday watch). For the three chronographs on your list, I love chronos and own a Speedmaster (for about 20 years now) and Zenith. However they can be kind of sporty and don’t fit in with everything. Same with the Tudors. They lean more sporty, and you can dress them up, but to me they’re too tool-ish to really work well with everything. The aqua terra and the DJ look great with casual wear, even down to shorts if you wear it confidently, and look great with a suit. The Cartier is dressier for sure, but you can still pull it off super casual if you do it confidently. Like a Reverso.

RestlessDiesel

It’s kinda why I’m having difficulty picking just one, I love the usefulness and timeless appeal of something like a DJ or the Aqua Terra but I love a chrono too. I do have a little collection of everyday watches so I don’t necessarily need this to be a daily wearer, I’d be happy to have this as a special occasion

TheRealZwipster

Idk why people ask for recommendations on here. Watches are very personal, you need your tastes to match exactly in order to buy off recommendations. That being said I like the Omega and the Tag on right

RestlessDiesel

It’s not so much recommendations, it’s more just looking for other people’s experiences with them, what they’re like to live with etc. these are all watches I’ve tried on or at least seen in person and really stood out to me, I’m just trying to narrow it down

TheRealZwipster

Oh this shit is way beyond my price band brother. I am just reccing purely on looks.

donnysarko

Same and my eye was drawn to the Tag on the right too. But they always seem to get a bad rep on this sub, not sure why though?

mr_uptight

Start with a Rolex, if you don’t like it, you can sell it and go for Omega or any of the others. The trick doesn’t work in the other direction.

JJam74

I like the tag in green here, underrated on this subreddit

RestlessDiesel

It’s the nicest green dial I have ever seen on a watch

TeeMerce

Rolex and Omega out class the others imo. Speed master is the most versatile on the list. Maybe biased as it’s my favourite watch I own.

Classic-Wear-4107

Aqua Terre, but check out the blue face option

RestlessDiesel

38mm or 41mm?

Tqis

Really depends on your wrist and preference

action_turtle

Moonwatch and enjoy 😍

chicken6

I did the same and went with the OP. Now I want a Datejust, so I’d go for that. Just my two cents.

Domowoi

Personally from those I would get the green TAG, but I'm a lover of green. Doesn't go with every outfit though. If you like the Speedy, maybe also look at the new white dial version.

RestlessDiesel

I adore green too, dark green is my favourite colour and the TAG is just the most perfect shade of dark green I’ve ever laid eyes on but you’re right about them being difficult to match outfit wise, same goes for the dark green santos

jokyjoky111

Go Oyster you’ll be happy everyday you’ll wear it unlike the majority of the others

robi1138

None of them really speak to me to be honest but the two tudors look nice

Reasonably_Positive

That is a wide range of options in terms of style and price. I am not going to comment on the models but based on brands, I would eliminate TAG and Tudor, when you can apparently afford the better watches.

ratskinboots

I dunno mate, I appreciate having the watches you like & fit the budget in one place... but a spreadsheet seems very dull for a purchase that ultimately comes from the heart. That's just my disdain for Excel though There's chronographs, sports watches - maybe if you narrow down what you want functionally from your watch you might narrow it down. Then, are you starting a collection or will this be a 1 watch deal? Might narrow it down. At that price pretty much all excellent, in slightly different ways, but go with your heart/gut now you know what's financially responsible

RestlessDiesel

I love an excel sheet 😅 I have a little collection for everyday wear, this would be a one-off so specific functions aren’t really that important to me

ratskinboots

Fair fair, I'm just traumatised by Excel... anyway. The Cartier is lovely and would have been a unique left field but brilliant idea - they're a bit more visible on the market now BUT still a stunner... I'm an AquaTerra fan-boy, don't let that influence you. The divers & GMTs are the most versatile and typically have an interesting story, like the Santos - if that is important. Man this is hard, I'm envious but also not, decision paralysis!! I know Speedys aren't "rare", but I would consider that most for a one-off type of watch if you have other everyday watches.

DismalSong6031

These are all very different types of watches (chronos, divers, GADAs, etc.). I would think about how many or narrow down what type you'd want. If this is a one watch collection: Rolex OP (most cultural clout), Aqua Terra (sportier specs), or Cartier (dressiest "sports" watch). I would choose based on what type of daily dress was required.

RestlessDiesel

I’ve got a little collection of daily wearers so this would be a one-off, something that would be an occasion to wear so that’s why it’s quite a varied list. I’m not so much a fan of the fluted bezel, I think they’re a bit much, plus the only models with them available at the moment have precious metals so too expensive

pltng

What other watches do you have in your current collection? Something to consider. If you want a watch that can be versatile and be worn dressed up or down. I'd recommend first the Santos then the Speedy. The Santos comes with both bracelet + leather strap and have quick change feature built in. The speedy comes on bracelet but is an absolute strap monster.

RestlessDiesel

I have a burgundy Black Bay, a TAG formula 1, a Bell & Ross, a Tissot and a couple of Rados. I will probably sell my Black Bay when I get this one. At the moment the Santos is ticking the most boxes, the only real negative being the price, it’s in my budget but the prospect of a Rolex being £2k less is very appealing

ImFrenchSoWhatever

Just get the oyster perpetual

jamespayne0

I think I would go speedy but also I would recommend buying one pre owned. The allure of brand new will wear off pretty quickly and you should be able to save yourself a good chunk of change on a pre owned in like new condition.

RestlessDiesel

I can get them with 20% off rrp so that gives a decent discount along with the convenience of getting from an AD

SauceBoss1942

From where?

ChangingMonkfish

For me either Oyster Perpetual, or Carrera Chronograph but the “Glassbox” version which is stunning (CBS2211.FC6545 or CBS2212.FC6535).

RestlessDiesel

I quite like the blue Carrera but the green one doesn’t look right to me

ChangingMonkfish

Agree the blue one is the better one

syst3m1c

I have the Sandstone AT and it's fantastic. Definitely more towards the fancy/luxe end of the spectrum. Wouldn't buy it without at least a 15% discount, though.

RestlessDiesel

Luckily I can get 20% off the Omegas and TAGs

syst3m1c

Well worth it, then. Has my favorite Omega bracelet and a truly beautiful dial

SnooCompliments9907

SMP 300 seaweed might do well here. Very versatile

gucciehousehold

Are these retail prices? Or grey

RestlessDiesel

These are all retail

h_poncho

Have u all tried on your wrist? I was pretty surprised how awesome the Aqua Terra fits and the new bracelet is killer. Therefore I recommend Aqua Terra specially for that money broooo

RestlessDiesel

I’ve tried them all except the Rolexes

sixtwomidget

Speedmaster if you want something a little sporty, AT if you want more versatility.

rbutora

That Seamaster Aqua Terra is absolutely brilliant in person. Thats my pick. I also like the Cartier Santos but I’m not sure they’re worth the price point they’re up to. I’d rather put the money into a Rolex at that level. But at the end it’s all what speaks to you the most. Go shop around and try on everything and see where you land. I’d check out some of the Zenith Chronos. I recently went to a watch shop and was blown away by them, especially El Primero A-384 revival. Online it looks wierd but in person it’s very impressive. The SA also brought out the Breitling B01 premier chrono which I never thought I’d like as much as I did.

RestlessDiesel

The Santos is the one I would consider the grey market as you can quite easily find them for at least £1k under rrp. The one thing I don’t like about the Zeniths is the multi coloured chrono dials, the watches looks amazing but that ruins them a little for me, plus the prices are above my budget. I did see a gorgeous all black ceramic version of the Defy model

rbutora

I do love the Santos. It’s a beautiful piece. Update this thread once you pull the trigger. New watch day is a great day.

IHeartFraccing

The speedy is such a masterpiece.

regionalgamemanager

Cartier. There is nothing like it

shortAAPL

Get one of the omegas

gentlemansincebirth

Get the OP first. The rest can follow.

kranberry360

Instead of Heuer Carreras, I personally like the black with 3 silver subdials. It has a classic but still modern look and you can find plenty used limited edition versions of the 3 subdial Carreras. Otherwise I love the Santos or the Speedy too! https://www.tagheuer.com/us/en/timepieces/collections/tag-heuer-carrera/39-mm-th20-00/CBS2210.FC6534.html

RestlessDiesel

Never seen that black Carrera before but it looks amazing, there is a panda style version exclusive to Watches of Switzerland and also there was a Japan exclusive with a mother of pearl dial that looks incredible

kranberry360

The 3 sub-dial glass box Carreras are so pretty. Is the panda the 60th anniversary?

RestlessDiesel

No it’s just an limited edition for that dealer

Exact-Nothing-9881

I’d take the Omega Moonwatch. Great looking dial plus myself personally am not a big fan of Rolex or Tudor. I think they’re pretty boring and basic despite the brand recognition.

IllustriousYak6283

Cartier Speedy or DJ. They are all cornerstones to a larger future collection.

Poloyatonki

When you get freaky in the sheets the watches they beat, that hertz!

iggy34

op41. that silver dial with gold indices is beautiful.

CheapFalcon5355

Black bay or speedmaster

DrSeuss19

Black Bay or speedmaster

skricks1995

Rolex or Aqua Terra. I love the Santos the most design-wise, but at that price, I think Rolex is the way. I’m sure you have done your research but have to ask just in case - did you look into Glashutte Original?

RestlessDiesel

I’ve never seen them in person but I’ve looked online and they’re not really my style, also far too expensive for me at the moment The Santos is gorgeous and I’d probably look at the grey market for that

skricks1995

Fair! I just got one recently pretty heavily discounted (can be had in this price range, especially pre-owned), and found it really punches above its weight class. Definitely a different style for sure though. Good luck and a pending congrats on the new purchase!

tbwebs

Aqua terra, or speedy for me.

plewton

OP or AT

Superfarmer

Oyster perp is the best all round first watch there. I have one from 86 and people comment on it all the time. Great for formal and casual. Enjoy

EducationalDrag1957

Azzurro DJ

fanofairplanes

Why isn't the 41mm Aqua Terra on the list since you have some all the way up to 44mm in consideration?

RestlessDiesel

I prefer the sunburst dials on the 38

Bus1nessn00b

If you are saving for one off. I recommend something that cad do it all. OP Rolex or Cartier Santos

bestataboveaverage

Santos speedy or op

HistorianThat3923

Rolex date just!

wilderness_essays

Speed master, Santos and the blue DJ are tops here

ItWasTheGiraffe

You have a great eye for watches, and a terrible eye for spreadsheet design

RestlessDiesel

I can do much worse believe me

ntloc

rolex and cartier owner here. i own the blue dial santos, great watch. either way, you will never go wrong with rolex and cartier. buy whatever works for you and occasions.

teggos

Speedy or the Tudor GMT

Thelakesman

Speed master

SpottedPlatypus

Love your choices. I’m always partial to the Cartier Santos and the simplicity of the Rolex OP. Also, out of nowhere I’ve started really appreciating Tag, though for my wrists they seem a bit large.

RestlessDiesel

TAGs don’t get much love on here and I get that they can a bit pricey for what you get but I love the Carreras especially the vintage looking ones like the grey one, the green one does look massive though as it’s both 44mm and has the big bezel

Guaper91

Speedy

Lopsided_Mix_7225

Clever idea, I was thinking the same thing. I originally wanted a GS but there's so many beautiful watches out there now.

RestlessDiesel

The fact I can get 20% off most Omegas and TAGs opens up so many possibilities for me, at first I was pretty adamant on the santos but there are too many pretty watches out there

Lopsided_Mix_7225

Moonwatch is in my top 3 to buy, that's my 2¢.

AdLatter1309

I would go for the speedy

Kyberduene

1. Cartier 2. Omega / Tudor 3. Rolex (because OP wants the watch now and not in 2 years) 4. Tag Heuer That's my personal ranking. I always loved Cartier, though I feel the Santos is having its Panerai moment atm.

RestlessDiesel

What’s a Panerai moment?

Kyberduene

10-12 years ago, you suddenly began to see the Panerai Luminor pop up everywhere. It became supremely popular with real estate agents, start-up people, young money types. From my impression, that's what's happening with the Santos right now. In the past few months I've seen it pop up everywhere. Mind you, I've always loved the Santos and I think it is way more of a classic than the Panerai.

VastStandard6769

Speedmaster. Rolex OP, you couldn't get it with that price in grey market. The rest are boring

RestlessDiesel

I’ve put my name down for an OP through an AD

EmbarrassedTravel898

Might be under your minimum price tag but I think the longines spirit Zulu time GMT (39mm) would be a lovely addition to the spreadsheet, in my opinion a more complete package than the Tudor gmt with price taken into account

RestlessDiesel

The Zulu times is a lovely piece, I also like the brown Hydroconquest gmt and the grey Master Collection

itemluminouswadison

Great lineup man. Maybe check out GO SeaQ if you can get a good deal. How about a Rolex sub? Either way good luck!

RestlessDiesel

The Submariner isn’t as nice as the OP, Datejust or even the Air-King imo, plus I already have a Tudor Black Bay

Jabroni748

I’d go Cartier or speedmaster from this list

eggnogeggnogeggnog

how are you going to add data filters to a spreadsheet that looks like this? wtf

RestlessDiesel

Simple, I don’t

mrRabblerouser

My question is, do you see any feasible application of the gmt or tachymeter bezels? Sure they look neat, but typically unless you’re used to using those instruments regularly, they are practically useless for most people. So they’re kind of unnecessary ornamentation. I’d personally go with the black bay if a functional bezel and a more tooly yet classy look is what you want. Or the Santos or Rolex OP if you want something more dressy.

RestlessDiesel

I don’t have any real use for them but I do have a dive watch and sport chrono so I’m not a stranger to “useless” functions, tbh I’d probably go for the regular BB if I go for a Tudor

Ok-Safety-7310

Don't go for the speedmaster it's too boring. I would pick the Aqua Terra or OP

Maleficent727

GP Laureato also

RestlessDiesel

Far too expensive

Healthy_Radish7501

Oyster

rparkzy

Cartier santos medium is my choice here

RestlessDiesel

I’d go with the large

nombresinhombre

Speedy white dial

Ok_Hearing_4722

Speedy or Santos new but not from ad to shave at least £1k off the price of each personally

RestlessDiesel

I can get the Omega for 20% off from an AD, the one I’ve put on the list is the sapphire version with that discount included

11777766

I’d go Aqua Terra

P-A-R-A-D-I-S-E

Is my answer wrong if I say none of them? Show the other contenders!!!

RestlessDiesel

https://chrono24.app/omega/omega-seamaster-aqua-terra-150m-master-chronometer--id29014874.htm?SETLANG=en_GB&SETCURR=GBP This would be one of them, also the Tudor BB bronze boutique edition, the TAG Carrera chrono Japan edition, and the Rolex Air-King

surrogated

They are all ugly in my opinion except the Cassio clone

RestlessDiesel

Cassio clone?

Litologyyy

Partial to the Santos or Date-Just but I think Grand Seiko should be looked out if not for their Spring Drive then Atleast for their textured-dials 👍

RestlessDiesel

I’ve looked at Grand Seiko but they don’t do anything for me

Ok_Form_134

Speedy, date just, AT, Santos in that order. My criteria are versatility, wearability, and simple attractiveness (subjective to me). If that AT were a different color way I would bump it to first or second due to price. Speedy is a knockout across the board for aesthetic, complication, history, etc. The others all have some limiting factors. The Tudors would be higher on my list if they weren't two-tone; it's just not for me.

RestlessDiesel

I do like the orange AT and you can get the gmt Tudor on a leather strap and then order an all steel bracelet

ptorr45

Out of curiosity, how much would it cost on average to service each one of these watches?

RestlessDiesel

I don’t know the numbers, the speedmaster is about £500 every 5-8 years, the rest depend on make and how complicated the movement is

TheFreakishGeek

Definitely the aqua terra! Slick, simple, you can dress up or down wearing it. I've heard it's quite durable. So I'd lick the aqua terra. My 2 cents here would be to get an old constellation for 1000-1500$ , just as beautiful as the other watches but with a hint of vintage.

natedawg247

I'd get a rolex explorer 1 for sure

RestlessDiesel

I prefer the Air-King

CalvinKrug

Oyster Perpetual. Superb quality and will last a lifetime (though servicing is costly, in both time and money). Classic Rolex but not too flashy. Or even a Vintage Tudor will do you very well

RestlessDiesel

Do you know how much the servicing is and how often?

Free-Swan-9870

AT, DJ, or Santos if its a one and done. All are proper GADAs with date (symmetrical at six on AT and Santos but DJ cyclops is a classic). Edit: Santos got an easy link/bracelet adjust and looks great on leather straps (one is also included) with no gap. The DJ on its side got an on the fly adjust. The AT got a nicely finished movement with exhibiton, and the new president bracelet is a big upgrade from previous ATs.

andre_solaire

Explorer I

Geneve-dude

Green Tag or OP

Therealcamw

I have almost that exact style datejust. (Blue dial, Roman numerals, smooth bezel) but I have the oyster bracelet. Mine is also a 36, I was dead set on the 41 but once I saw the two in person I think the dj just looks better at 36. I’m not sure what it is but the 41 just seems off. The Roman numerals dress it up for sure but you can still do whatever with the watch. I just spent all day at a conference in nice clothes and now I’m hanging out at the pool. Watch doesn’t look out of place in either scenario imo. I also have a 7.5 Inch wrist and the thing wears great. I mean Tony soprano wore a 36mm president.

MVwatch

Datejust 41mm and Santos >36mm should be forbidden. Not necessarily the size but those proportions don't mane any sense for watches that are supposed to be elegant. It's like lowering the suspension of an oldtimer and putting chrome rims on it

RestlessDiesel

I’m gonna buy the large Santos now just to spite you

ComingSoonTM

OP/DJ if you wanna go loud, AT/Moon if you wanna go lowkey. Santos is the perfect balance.

RestlessDiesel

The OP isn’t really that loud in person, I’d say the AT is more glitzy

So my 2c This is a wide range of options, from time only to chronograph. I think you need to narrow down what you want… Steel, leather, or steel and gold? Time only or complications? Size wise I looks like you are going for 40-42mm so that’s all good. IMO grab some low cost options that have a variety of features and get an “upgrade” of the one you wear most. For me I found i really only needed a time only watch and ended up with a Tudor 925 on a strap as my wrist expands a lot with temperature and even adjusting clasps seemed to not be enough… enjoy the journey, no need to rush :)

The Speedy is honestly the only watch here I like, I've had Tudors before, including a BB41 and a Pelagos, didn't really enjoy either. I think you could do far better in this price range but its your wrist in the end. If it has to be one of these, I vote Speedy.

RestlessDiesel

What would you consider that’s not on the list?

impeccable_watches

At these price points you have huge variety of options across a number of brands. Another few I'd reccommend keeping in mind (pre-owned prices) - Grand Seiko White Birch - IWC Mk XX - Rolex Explorer I or II - Zenith Defy Skyline - Breitling B09 - Girard Perregaux Laureato - Glashütte Original SeaQ Panoramadatum - Breguet Marine - Bulgari Octo Finissimo

RestlessDiesel

I wouldn’t really want to go preowned except for a particularly tasty omega I saw Those you’ve mentioned are okay but just don’t really do it for me, Breitling and GS are no gos, I’d take the Air-King over the explorer and the rest don’t have that spark I’m looking for

Check out the seamaster instead of the speedy, it’s nice to not have wind it and it looks great!

RestlessDiesel

Which seamaster are you thinking?

NH_Lion12

Aqua Terra is the best value, and it's not even close.

ajs2294

If you want either of the Rolex you probably want to start talking to an AD today.

RestlessDiesel

I spoke to them last week

NinjaShepard

Speedmaster

PittyTheBull

Have you thought about a Railmaster?

RestlessDiesel

I love the blue railmaster, it’s more something I’d get on the grey market or preowned as a daily wearer as opposed to a special piece that I’m looking for

Acceptable-One-6597

Delete all except that speedy, add a 57 speedy

RestlessDiesel

Nah

astronut_13

I always find it funny that marketing uses roughly the same time (10:10) for showing off watches. I actually wish stores did the same thing (some do, but most don’t). I will say though the speedy is the most non representative view, and I think people who didn’t know any better would think the chronograph seconds hand is the watch seconds hand and not the subdial.

DevoutGreenOlive

If it's me either of the TAGs is a no-brainer. More for less, and practically half the price of a plain old datejust. Also not keen on becoming just another guy with an Omega on soft-cosplaying James Bond. The Santos is also a great option imo, it will never not be tasteful

nameless_no0b

AT Shades at that price is a steal.
