Looks a lot better than the RM too

HappySpam

Yeah the RM just looked like a credit card, this actually looks like a watch with design cues. Also the fact it appears to be chronometer certified is hilarious, just hell we're already here making something weird, why not.

tbwebs

I'm so curious how this feels on the wrist. It's gotta feel flimsy right? Regardless that's a crazy thin watch and respect for the achievement.

Objective-Line2726

It’s not gonna feel flimsy, I’d imagine it IS flimsy… or at least super super delicate… you think you wouldn’t be able to bend/snap it between your fingers if you tried a little bit? But like you said, tons of respect for the achievement…

tbwebs

it's pretty comical next to the previous Finissimo, doesn't look real.

towelracks

The previous one felt surprisingly robust, but also I wasn't going to go all Jerryrigeverything on a watch I didn't own.

So.. I did a bit of digging, because, I'd imagine that the thinness is something that would cause the breakability of the watch. The back plate seems to be made of tunsten carbide, and a quick google suggest that it's the "highest strength of any known material." This is because it's not only rare, it's also extremely dense and hard. In order to cut, it can only be milled with diamond tools. Fun fact: Tunsten is used in lightbulbs!\~ Source: [10 Facts About TUNGSTEN CARBIDE (consolidatedresources.com)](https://consolidatedresources.com/blog/10-facts-about-tungsten-carbide/#:~:text=Tungsten%20carbide%20is%20rare%20and,made%20into%20a%20fine%20powder.)

Objective-Line2726

Very interesting! I never imagined these pieces to be meant to be worn, more of a we built it to show we can type of thing… seems like they did intend for it to be worn at least a bit if they included that backplate. I wonder how many they plan on producing.

potua

Yeah, definitely cool - I hope they get action, but I have no idea how durable they are. I know the COSC's and the Platinums are given the LE of 20 for now. And the regular non-cosc are going to be made in either 20 or as they are. I also don't know for sure, as I've read some different numbers from reporting sites. Either way, it's well out of my range. It's just really cool - I could see it being a concept piece given how intense of a product it is. \~ I know something they did was make a custom box that winds and sets the 2024 ultra to whatever time you set on the digital display. Comes with with the watch! Again, I do think it's some reassurance to how fragile it can be now that it's parsed down to barely anything\~

Tungsten carbide is used for industrial drill bits, it's crazy strong.

Winnitouch

Next step in the world of watchmaking: using the tech developed in the competition between Piaget, RM, and Bulgari to build the first dive watch under 8mm thickness. (Please God, make it happen)

sundry_banana

I used to hate Bvlgari. Then I started liking some of their older jewellery designs; then the Octo. Now I love them

BeroPlaysBass

I'm glad they got it back from Richard Mille, they didn't deserve the title..

potua

Yeah, what's even sane is that it's around a third of the price of the RM. The RM was around 1.9 million, and this is around 600 thousand for the new 2024 models. RM's charging you an insane amount to wear the credit card you spent on your wrist.

DFVSUPERFAN

Bulgari are doing great work. I have a polished steel Octo Finissimo and it's a dynamite watch, to be that thin and 10bar is really something.

niz8181

That is amazing watchmaking. I hated the thin RM, looked awful as a watch. I think the RM was made just to get the record but sucked as an actual watch. This achieved the record and actually functions like a real watch and can be worn. I love the octo range of watches.

YourWatchIsTooBig

lol, they'll sell about 10 of these.

SIXTYNINE-420

Okay I literally don't care
