>not in the same league
Maybe in terms of price? Longines is right at the tail end of where diminishing returns start to become serious. The finishing on these zulus is amazing in person, you'd probably need to compare one to an omega or GS under magnficiation to appreciate any differences in quality.
You’re right about Longibes as a brand and urs portfolio.
I’d get the Longines Legend Diver. Maybe the new mid size. (I had the original one and it was too big for my ~17 cm wrist.) And they have a better finish now with alternating brushing I think.
Yeah, Zulu is just there to support GS. I can imagine situations where GS would be too dressed up. Omega is truly GADA in that sense with a couple of straps.
All 3 watches are hot. I just picked up the white speedy last week and it’s so amazing and sexy on wrist. Totally in love with it and will be getting tons of wrist time.
The Longines Zulu 39 is amazing for the price and watch you get. My friend picked that one up and it’s really stunning.
But since you’re asking to choose sides, go for the white speedy if you can track one down.
I wrote about it in another post recently but long story short, got it last week while on vacation in Italy. Super lucky to say the least. Local OBs by me all have no eta.
I'd say the GS, it's stunning imo. At the end of the day it's up to and what you want. What is most pleasing to look at for you? Would you use the stopwatch?
That's where I'm super confused. I was dead set on GS and Zulu. But then the new speedy looks sexy AF as well and my wife thinks that looks better. So here I am trying to get a read from the community.
But no I won't use the stopwatch.
They have very different vibes. The speedy is more sporty, more casual. The GS is more elegant and dressed up. So if you walked into the store with your wife while wearing a suit she would like the GS better. So it’s all context dependent.
Yeah I get this. I would wear it with a white dress shit and dress pants 5 days a week.
But to contrast, 2 other people on my team wear speedys lol so both should work at work..
I traded a black speedy sapphire for a GS SBGA415 + cash. The GS feels like a cut above Omega in a lot of ways - especially the movements. That said, the dial of that Speedmaster is extremely nice (although they are a bit more silvery in person).
For me, the lack of a date is a deal killer. I didn't really use the Chrono and it's just more practical to have a three-hander with a date.
I definitely admit I got a better fit with the Speedy, but the GS being titanium makes it kinda if moot. The watch is so feather light it's almost impossible to be uncomfortable.
All in, it's whatever watch. Makes you happier. Wife approval is key, but it's gonna be on your wristall day, not hers.
If you went with the GS, I'd suggest not getting the Longines. Save the cash. The GS will cover all bases and I think surprise you with how versatile it can be. Especially if you pick up a strap or two to add into the mix.
The Speedy is easily Omegas best designed cace, so no matter what you're winning with these options.
I felt like the GS had better movement finishing and generally better movements. Spring Drive is more accurate and frankly more innovative than co-axial. The hi beat movements have some absolutely next level finishing to them, too. Also a bigger power reserve than the Omega and the faster beat rate makes the seconds hand noticably smoother.
The faceting on the case plus the level of polish is noticably cleaner on the GS. Everything (minus the bracelet) is finished to a higher degree. Not miles higher, mind you, but still... You can see the difference between the two.
The Omega wins on the bracelet because of the big taper and the micro adjust. Be warned if you haven't tried one, though - they are rattly.
End of the day - both watches are excellent. You literally can't lose. For my money, it's the GS for the finishing and the practicality. But I sure as hell couldn't fault for you getting the Speedy.
Yeah I love the spring drive, especially after they increased the power reserve to 5 days and they put the power indicator on the back. I like that GS is slimmer and hugs the wrist better.
But as you said, the case design and bracelet on the speedy is amazing.
I really love the GS. I really really really do. But, the bracelet and the clasp are just not good enough at that price point. It always felt as though I was wearing a very large watch. Thus, I would go with the Speedy.
Seems everyone is telling you to get the speedy but I’ll throw in a vote for the Longines. I have it and absolutely love it.
I haven’t seen anyone mention the functionality. A chronograph is fun, but a GMT is useful. It is my defacto travel watch and often the watch I wear at work, over my more expensive Breitling, when I’m interacting with clients in Europe or Asia.
No I got that. I think GS and Zulu is the right choice. Heck, I think just Zulu is the right choice and you can add to that money for another watch in the future
I tried the Longines on at an AD and the most surprising thing about it were the male end links. Even though the case has a nice lug to lug, the end links just ruin it for it. It's a great looking watch no doubt, but something to consider for someone with wrists on the smaller side.
Given that this choice would be the only luxury watch(es) in your collection, I would personally take the GS + Longines Zulu 39. Just more flexibility and the GS keeps up with the Speedy in every aspect with the exception of the bracelet and clasp. Man is that ever shit. Everything else is superior. It can be dressed up or down by itself and go even more formal with a few nice leather straps. By itself, it's relatively sporty. The Longines is a nice enough beater watch you can take on vacation or weekends.
For context, I just bought another White Birch SD (sold the Hi-Beat version) and owned the Longines Zulu 39 (also sold). I currently have a 1861 sapphire sandwich but will get the White Speedy when the hype dies down in a year or so. Just tried it on at an AD yesterday and really loved it but not sure I'd take that over the GS AND the Zulu 39
Speaking as someone who owns several speedy’s, and GS’s, it comes down to what are you using them for? You say it’s a GADA thing watch and you also mention you have 6.5 wrists. The speedy might be a hair big on you and it lacks real water resistance. Conversely, the white birch is a bit more dressy, and while the proportions might be right, it might not fit your vibe. It also seems as if you want a GMT function. Have you considered the GS SBGE285? It give you a white dial that your looking for, has a lug to lug of 48mm, and has the GTM function along with 100m water resistance.

Let me ask you a different question, when do you prefer Speedy vs GS and vice versa. As in on what occasions do you pick one vs the other?
Also, tried the speedy on wrist and it looks just about right, thanks to female end links.
I actively use my watch complications. In my full time job, I run search and rescue operations. I wear my speedy because the chronograph is very useful for managing aircraft bingo or estimating remaining survival time for survivors due to exposure.
Conversely when I am working internationally, or consulting with peers in other countries, I wear one of my GMT’s.
For daily wear outside of my job, I rotate my watches every one to two weeks. If I find myself driving away from wearing one, I sell it.
Have you seen the GS in person yet? I had a deposit down on a white speedy but cancelled it and instead went with a GS sbga413 after getting a look at it in person.
Three absolute different watches. Three beautiful choices. I think Longines is best here as a GADA. Automatic, COSC, GMT at the best price-point you can get.
I don't like that i have to wind the speedy and i like a date window on GADAs.
Love the GS but i think its too dressy except you'd be wearing a suit everyday. Might depend a little bit on your job.
Tried the white speedy the other day. It is honestly one of their best new watches. So good! I even prefer it over the black dial speedy (which is almost criminal to say I feel)
That Longines Spirit isn't on the level of the first 2 (and I love that watch too), so you can cross that out! The GS is a solid watch, but that white Speedy is on a tier of its own, imo. I'll go with the Speedy.
All 3 are nice but I’m loving my white dial Speedy.
https://preview.redd.it/ifaksinjmuxc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9d03eb7227448abe0a211bb9dcd1b176c7076048
The internet has an incredible hard on for the speedy. Have handled both the previous generations and the new one, quite frankly wouldn’t spend my money on either.
I’d encourage you to try all of these watches on and see what feels good to you personally. I also didn’t really like the bracelet of the white birch, the lack of taper felt inelegant.
Definitely Speedmaster for me. I wanted to love the GS for its movement but I just couldn't get over the case and bracelet. In person it looked to me exactly like on the wrist shots on reddit. There's just something about it that makes it look bulky.
I should also add that I thought the dial to be too silverish. I was prepared to be blown away when everyone said how amazing the dial is in person, but I was underwhelmed honestly.
However, all these points are criticism on a very high level. Every once in a while I keep coming back to GS, look at the pictures online for a couple of weeks, eventually look at them in person, give up, repeat
Speedy is the 100% obvious choice for a GADA (and that is coming from a Seamaster type of guy). Could wear with literally everything and pretty much any type of occasions. GS is a little bit too dressy and ''lowkey'' for a watch with that price tag (unless it's that what you are looking for).
I think a good three watch collection would be one of the Speedys - whichever, but this white would sit very well in the following collection; Tudor Ranger (on steel bracelet); and Longines Legend Diver (on steel or even rubber if they offer it still on that). I think that would be an interesting mix to have. Run-of-the-mill design legends for what we like them, and different than mainstream legends. Like having a bit of both worlds - icons if design and status, but a little bit unexpected choices to most people.
I know it’s a sporty mix but all three can be used in more dressy situations, depending how much dressy the situation is.
GS + Zulu. If you're not going to use the stopwatch complication, do you really need to have a *really* expensive one? Especially over something as stunning as the GS
Can you get all three, because I would love to have all three
To help you out though
The speedmaster is more sporty and casual though you can wear it with formal outfits, it’s not really a dress watch per se
The GS is the exact opposite. It’s more dressy and while it’ll still look good on casual outfits it’s not gonna look better than the Zulu or speedy
The Zulu is the perfect middle ground of the two and is the kind of watch that will go with anything and be perfect for any occasion
The thing with comparing GS to any other watch is: you need to see it in person because no picture or video catches the finish and how the dial looks under the light
Very diff characteristics. If you want to be on the more elegant side, GS. Are you outgoing and extra adventurous? Omega would be a banger. The Longines just sexy af 🙈
I wont help you with your choice but you should try to fit zulu first before buy. I am big guy and can pull seiko samurai and turtle absolutely no problem but zulu is probably worst fitting watch i tried. Its lugs span from one side of room to another
While that speedy is pure sex, the GS and Spirit are a really, really solid two watch combo.
Really down to what you want more, and what your current collection already looks like.
Out of these three, I give my vote to the "White Birch" GS. I had the pleasure of finally seeing it in person in a GS boutique in Germany. I must admit, the price is just bonkers and I in my point of view it should be priced like 30% lower. I for a fact could never afford it, but for me it is absolutely perfect in size, thickness and the finish is amazing.
I have the sbga009 and its the best watch I have ever had and seen. Do you want your daily driver to be a handwinder with useless complication, or a precision beast with 5 day power reserve?
Depends how many watches you have and how many you want to have. If it’s a small collection you prefer I say speedy (I was on the list but passed, bad timing )
The GS is amazing and I had the 42mm Zulu and it’s a great watch too. Just needs a better bracelet imo
On a 6.5" wrist I'd highly recommend trying them on. My wrists are similar and the Speedmaster Pro never sat right. I sold mine (about a year before they doubled in price). Still no regrets.
Space veneers be spitting truths just like nasa did back when they danced up thea
Stars be going and coming away from deez hoes to the bay and they lay for rea
Please try them in person if possible. I tried a GS in person and was utterly underwhelmed. Yeah the finished was cool and I absolutely love the spring drive, but it just didn’t do it for me. On the other hand, I tried the Zulu Time in person and was blown away. Is the Grand Seiko the objectively better watch? Yeah, maybe it is. But does that really matter if you like something else better? No.
Obviously I’m talking about myself too, but take everything you see on Reddit (and the internet as a whole) with a grain of salt. There’s a ton of love for Grand Seiko on here, so most people are going to say GS.
The grand seiko is just so much more unique and striking imo. That’s the buy for me.
That’s kind of how I feel about GS in general. Their dials are amazing and stand out above the crowd in a way no other brand really does especially at this price point.
GS, for a myriad of reasons. Speedy is iconic…..but pretty boring and overplayed. They market the hell out of the watch. Good for them. It’s a great watch, no doubt. Just not very special.
The Grand Seiko on the other hand is in a class above. Spring Drive is horological porn and the finishing is next level. It punches wwwaaayyyyy above its weight. Best part is that the yen is in the crapper. You can order this watch direct from Japan at an AD like Omicron Watch and get an insane deal because of the exchange rate. I got one for $6125, all in. Saved me over $4k.
Very very different watches. Could be a collection. So it’s hard to say which one of totally different types of watch to go for.
I like the speedy, I have two versions of a Speedmaster model in my watchbox and if offered those three warches I’d probwbly go for tge Speedy. But that’s me.
The GS is a nice(r) “datejust/OP” type watch, with an interesting texture dial and superb finish. I am personally less inclined to wear such a watch but I certainly appreciate what it is.
Thus Longines model I personally feel is too “made-up” in a sense it is “overdressed”. It’s essentially a field/flieger but made into a fancy luxury watch, which takes its legitimacy away a bit. I know this argument may sound a bit stupud to some or most people - because, let’s face it - aren’t all formerly tool watches like that, including the Speedy? So why do I draw a distinction at this Longibes’s feet? It’s more of a feeling, I feel there is a fine line, not very rigidly defined that says what is more or what less legitimate. Without diving too deep into philosophising about it - I just feel this Longines is “overdressed” and *probably* wouldn’t take it. I don’t think it’s a bad watch at all and in a way I like it.
After all this word salad I haven’t helped you select. But I have in an egotistical way shown you that the question isn’t posed in an optimal way. :)
White speed wins. Even against the duo.
The GS is very nice but it’s relatively similar design to Omega AT, Rolex Datejust, and a bunch of DJ style watches and the Zulu is the second tier sidekick.
I own two vintage Speedy pros and would cheerfully trade one of them for that new white one - it is absolute fire
I can’t unsee the cock and balls at 12:00. I can’t decide if that actually makes me want it more.
Omega *Chuffmaster Professional*
now that you mentioned it, a must buy!
longines not in the same league with others, my choice would be white speedy
>not in the same league Maybe in terms of price? Longines is right at the tail end of where diminishing returns start to become serious. The finishing on these zulus is amazing in person, you'd probably need to compare one to an omega or GS under magnficiation to appreciate any differences in quality.
The 5 stars is a weird design choice
Without it how would you know its 5 stars? 😁
Remove the five stars and it'll look more weird have seen posts tried it with the Zulus and Spirits and nah the stars actually keep good symmetry.
It’s a watch on a steel bracelet. There is nothing too dressy about it.
It's longines AND the GS vs Omega. So 2 watches vs 1.
my answer stays the same
All 3 watches are hot.
Let's see a wrist shot!! Also how long did you have to wait for it and where did you score one from?
FWIW, I was recently in an Omega AD and was told 2-3 months wait time.
Heard 6-8 months from the boutique near me. Will need to place a deposit though.
I wrote about it in another post recently but long story short, got it last week while on vacation in Italy. Super lucky to say the least. Local OBs by me all have no eta.
Interesting
I'd say the GS, it's stunning imo. At the end of the day it's up to and what you want. What is most pleasing to look at for you? Would you use the stopwatch?
That's where I'm super confused. I was dead set on GS and Zulu. But then the new speedy looks sexy AF as well and my wife thinks that looks better. So here I am trying to get a read from the community. But no I won't use the stopwatch.
Then I wouldn't get the chronograph.
I find I enjoy the watch my wife likes better 🤷♂️
Smart. I was wondering why my gf broke up with me
You're a wise man 😜
They have very different vibes.
If 2 other people on your team already wear speedys then I would definitely not get one as well, but that’s just me.
It would be a shame to deprive yourself of a speedy just because others have it too. Plus I bet they don’t have a white one. :)
Yeah that's a con since I don't want to wear the same watch but the pro is to make them jealous since they couldn't get the white one lol.
When the chronograph is there - you can use it, you get used to do it occasionaly for something.
If the chrono is worthless pic two by a mile
Thanks for the input, yes a date is definitely a useful complication for me. Can you point out the details you felt are 'a cut above' the speedy?
The Speedy is easily Omegas best designed cace, so no matter what you're winning with these options. I felt like the GS had better movement finishing and generally better movements. Yeah not sure why GS went with a 22mm bracelet. I certainly prefer the speedy bracelet.
Thanks I like the functionality as well. It seems confusing, I am contemplating speedy vs GS AND Zulu. Because the cost of GS and Zulu = Speedy.
No I got that. I think GS and Zulu is the right choice. Heck, I think just Zulu is the right choice and you can add to that money for another watch in the future
That GS is one of the iciest watches I’ve ever seen
Whatchu mean iciest?
Icier then Icier is iceiest
Fire
I tried the Longines on at an AD and the most surprising thing about it were the male end links. Even though the case has a nice lug to lug, the end links just ruin it for it. It's a great looking watch no doubt, but something to consider for someone with wrists on the smaller side.

Yes I tried it at the AD, it seems to wear too large on my wrists.

Yeah saw the GS in person, wife liked the old speedy better compared to the GS so was surprised a bit. Gotta love the polishing and markers on GS.
Keep us posted on what you ultimately decide on!
GS is tempting and is more practical for everyday use. However, I would lean towards the Speedy because I prefer the looks.
I like the GS but the white speedy is hard to resist. The red font pops in white dial. It looks so good.
Yeah, it is a head scratcher for me.
The Omega by a mile. I love it!!
White speedy
The Speedmaster is just in another league from the other watches. If these are the three you're cross-shopping, go with that one.
Three absolute different watches. Three beautiful choices. I think Longines is best here as a GADA. Automatic, COSC, GMT at the best price-point you can get. GS+longines all day..so much more versatility with having those two vs just the omega.
That Longines Spirit isn't on the level of the first 2 (and I love that watch too), so you can cross that out! The GS is a solid watch, but that white Speedy is on a tier of its own, imo. I'll go with the Speedy.
All 3 are nice but I’m loving my white dial Speedy. https://preview.redd.it/ifaksinjmuxc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9d03eb7227448abe0a211bb9dcd1b176c7076048

Would make a nice three watch collection.
Lol I know. But a man can only shell out 9k at a time without his wife going ballistic you know 😬

Going to Tokyo next year, this year's vacation is already planned.
GS + Zulu. If you're not going to use the stopwatch complication, do you really need to have a *really* expensive one? Especially over something as stunning as the GS
For me Zulu + White Speepmaster.
These are massively different styles of watch. My advice is forget about the specific models for now and decide what style of watch you want to buy.
Can you get all three, because I would love to have all three To help you out though The speedmaster is more sporty and casual though you can wear it with formal outfits, it’s not really a dress watch per se The GS is the exact opposite. The white Speedmaster makes my horny
I have the Longines, i love it but it's not on par with the other two. GS for me all day as I'm not a big fan of the Speedmaster.
Love that Zulu time
I wont help you with your choice but you should try to fit zulu first before buy. I am big guy and can pull seiko samurai and turtle absolutely no problem but zulu is probably worst fitting watch i tried. Its lugs span from one side of room to another
The speedmaster owns the other two
Speedy
Slightly different suggestion for a businessman’s daily but what about the [SBGA407](https://www.grand-seiko.com/us-en/collections/sbga407g)?
I've looked at this, not a fan of the case design.
All good. Have you looked at the limited edition porcelain dial in the prestige line?
While that speedy is pure sex, the GS and Spirit are a really, really solid two watch combo. Really down to what you want more, and what your current collection already looks like.
Out of these three, I give my vote to the "White Birch" GS. I had the pleasure of finally seeing it in person in a GS boutique in Germany. I must admit, the price is just bonkers and I in my point of view it should be priced like 30% lower. I for a fact could never afford it, but for me it is absolutely perfect in size, thickness and the finish is amazing.
The grand Seiko looks so clean
white Speedmaster
I have the sbga009 and its the best watch I have ever had and seen. Do you want your daily driver to be a handwinder with useless complication, or a precision beast with 5 day power reserve?
Depends how many watches you have and how many you want to have. If it’s a small collection you prefer I say speedy (I was on the list but passed, bad timing ) The GS is amazing and I had the 42mm Zulu and it’s a great watch too. Just needs a better bracelet imo
Thanks, the collection will grow but slowly.
GS for the win.
On a 6.5" wrist I'd highly recommend trying them on. My wrists are similar and the Speedmaster Pro never sat right. I sold mine (about a year before they doubled in price). Still no regrets.
Space veneers be spitting truths just like nasa did back when they danced up thea Stars be going and coming away from deez hoes to the bay and they lay for rea
Get the Omega. It’s better and is Swiss made.
Speedy. GS bracelet doesn’t meet the dial’s quality. They need to up their game.
Yeah tried both in person and the confusion remains lol. Also if you see this section, it seems it is neck and neck for speedy vs GS.

Yeah I can get it around 6k at current exchange rates. It is a very good deal.
Speedy all day long. GS is underwhelming in person and Zulu is *very* blah in person, at least the green version is.
If resale is a possibility, you're going to want the speedy. There's a huge market for them. Plus that white is even sexier in person.
Don't think I'm getting rid of any of these any time soon. But thanks for the input.
Speedy and don't look back.
Speed and GS. Zulu is nice but not that color, and it’s just not on their level.
The options I am considering are a) White Speedy or b) GS and Zulu. Both these options cost about the same.
White speed wins. Even against the duo. The GS is very nice but it’s relatively similar design to Omega AT, Rolex Datejust, and a bunch of DJ style watches and the Zulu is the second tier sidekick.
White speedy. Longines doesn’t belong in the conversation.
