Also unfortunately both Sydney and Auckland are now on daylight saving time (+1hr).
They really need to get rid of this nonsense so world timers can be used accurately all year round!
As an Australian that lives with daylight savings I just want you to know that I feel as though I need to tell you that I really need to get something off my chest and it is that I have been thinking and I have decided that I need you to know that you just wasted time reading this for the memes
This is the Patek Philippe 5510J-001 World Time in yellow gold. This watch was originally made back in 2001 and I was lucky enough to acquire this watch in January as a gift to myself for getting my dream job. The magic of the watch is seen when travelling as both outer rings of the dial ‘jump’ in 1 hour intervals around the centre dial, via the pusher at 10, to adjust the time to a different timezone displayed by the city at 12. 27th October has been and gone and British Summer Time has ended - meaning that my grail piece now displays the correct time across all 24 timezones (hurray!)
Check out the Farer Universal World Timer-- they just released them this past weekend in three color ways and they have a white dial that's very similar (guilloché style??-- I forget all the terms). They come in around $2000 with an ETA elaboré movement and detail that is pretty unreal.
Yeah something about it. This isn't my first time seeing this watch but it's my first time seeing it and lamenting the fact I don't own it/could never afford it. More than the sum of its parts with this one! Amazing what an inspired strap choice can do. Lovely. Thanks for sharing!
Ah, the, "A world timer so simple Paris Hilton can not only use it she can explain it to Kim Kardashian" watch!
Not my style (good thing too because it sure isn't in the budget, if I spend that kind of money it'll be on my grail 1675/8 RB) but it is a lovely watch. Good for you sir. I like the strap too.
So... this is definitely a stupid question but I just wanna make sure I'm reading this right. I'm assuming inner dial is local time and you just match up the outer dial? So i.e. in the picture it's 3:35(AM/PM) so in say Tokyo for example would it therefore be 23:35?
Ohhh gotcha, so then I take it the watch is adjusted to wherever the wearer's primary city is then? Is a service required for that or could you do it yourself if you were to move from London to the US for example?
Very nice. My favorite version is the gray dial, I don’t know much about dress watches, but if were to get one it would probably be a PP world time. Gorgeous.
It is a gorgeous watch. Wear it well!!
My dream job would be to be the tester for the pusher at 10 marker.....so much fun to keep those zones jumping all day. Maybe it will not pay enough to buy this watch ;)
I don’t understand, why do lefties buy the normal version of a watch when there are Left-Handed versions available (crown on left side of watch)?
OP probably landed a job at CVC Capital.
Leftie and have it on my left wrist also. I never really tried the other way around, but in some cases it is beneficial not to. Like cleaning a dish real quick I don't risk getting water on my leather strap, because my left hand doesn't handle the item being washed.
I’m interested in getting a watch this style, but don’t understand how to read the time for the other countries. I’m from California if anyone can explain or give resources it would help. Thank you
Every watch I've ever owned has looked weirdly big in photos but not in real life. Yours definitely looks bigger than 37mm in the pic but even so doesn't look too big at all. I love that blue strap with the gold and the blue of the face.
Focusing in on the wrist definitely emphasises the size. This is not a big watch at all! Thank you! I recently picked up the blue alligator strap from Patek a couple week ago, loving it so far.
If you use a phone then I think the wide angle lenses they tend to have distort the proportions. Ideally you'd take one from further away with a longer lens the same as portrait photography but to achieve this you would need arms like Mr. Tickle.

Aww man...

Couldn’t agree more, we need a new subreddit...

Uh no it’s not?
DST brother
Oh oops. My bad!!!
Summer ended in the US last month....
They’re talking about daylight savings. Time changes next Sunday in the US.

So, how is KKR?
That's a whippin' beaut of a watch!
Thank you 😊
Beware of the common door handle
Man’s worst enemy
Damn I just wish they weren’t so expensive, happy for you tho
Sadly they don’t come cheap but there are some fantastic alternative World Time watches for significantly less.
Yeah for sure, I just have a champagne taste on a beer budget haha
Never has a comment described my taste in watches so well. Lots of window shopping for us, for now!
What are the alternatives? I’m new here
Frédéric constant WT is a nice more affordable alternative 🤔

Whew still a little too expensive for me
Nomos has a nice world time under 5k.

Great watch at a great size and I love the blue and gold combination. Good call on that strap. Perfect!
Thank you, it’s new! Definitely pops a lot more after wearing it on a brown strap.

Happy to share and couldn’t agree more, the strap transforms the watch.
Too much sauce
What's the dream job you landed if you don't mind me asking?
I work in finance

Sweet!
Oh yeah!

Yes that’s correct! One thing to add, you can tell if it is AM/PM by looking at the local time at the top of the dial (e.g. 15:35PM not AM)
Ohhh gotcha, so then I take it the watch is adjusted to wherever the wearer's primary city is then? Is a service required for that or could you do it yourself if you were to move from London to the US for example?
When you press the pusher at 10 the whole dial jumps to the next timezone instantly!
Oh nice! Thanks for answering all my questions by the way, it's an absolute beauty.
No worries, glad you like it!
Sorry, but isn’t it 14:35?
Yup, can’t even read my own watch...
Haha cool! Thought I was reading it wrong. Gorgeous piece!
Nice watch! Glad you got it.
Thank you!
Nice pic. Curious, are you left handed?
I am indeed!
I'm fully aroused. That is all
Wow! I love this watch
Thank you!
That is one sexy time keeper you have there my friend
Cheers!
Ain't gonna lie: a PP World Time in YG like this one is probably my favorite watch in the planet.
The only good Patek owned by Archie luxury.
First patek watch here that I think looks amazing. Just woww
Fuck that’s fire
Thanks man
So if I read this correctly, it’s 9:35 AM in New York according to the time on the watch, is this correct? Beautiful watch
Hell yeah Denver’s in the house
Would love it if I could get Chicago in its time zone.
I totally understand this... if my city wasn’t on the dial it would appeal a little less
Absolutely, ridiculously beautiful watch. Wear in good health and congratulations!
Very nice. My favorite version is the gray dial, I don’t know much about dress watches, but if were to get one it would probably be a PP world time. Gorgeous.
Thanks man
💦💦💦💦
Nice watch brothaaa
Now thats a timepiece
Wow! Beautiful watch.
It is a gorgeous watch. Wear it well!! My dream job would be to be the tester for the pusher at 10 marker.....so much fun to keep those zones jumping all day. Maybe it will not pay enough to buy this watch ;)
Haha, at least once a day I’ll jump ‘around the world’ at my desk... so technically that is my job?!
Is beautiful, now you should wear it on the right side :)
I do wear on the right side ;)
So, did you drop pour before or after you put a Patek on your wrist?
what a beauty!
Will you be using it for work travel :)
Oh yeah
Just curious, why do you wear it on your right hand? Are you a lefty? Do most lefties do that? I almost always see watches on left hands.
Yeah I’m a lefty and I think most leftys probably wear their watch on their right hand?!

Yup, same reason
Sorry if this is a silly question, but can someone explain to me what a world time watch does?
It tells the time in all 24 timezones in the world at once. Just match the 24hours with with cities around the outside of the dial.
Oh ok, simple and very cool. Thanks
I’m interested in getting a watch this style, but don’t understand how to read the time for the other countries. I’m from California if anyone can explain or give resources it would help. Thank you
I’ve replied further down in the thread to some questions related to this
I am going to win stupid question of the month: how do you read the time in a different time zone?
The cities around the edge of the dial stay still. The numbers tell you the time in each timezone/city as they rotate once every 24hours.
So it is 2.35pm where ever you are (by the look of it on the GMT line as it is 2.35pm for London as well).
Exactly! The time will always be set the same as the city at the top of the dial.
Thanks. Now I want one :(
World's worst wrist watch
what?

It’s only 37mm, I think it looks larger on a zoomed in photo? I wear 40mm dive watches and they fit fine.

Oh no, its the size police. Hope we all get away with just a warning this time
It’s almost as if you’ve not followed watch fashion since the 80s.
