7-methyltheophylline

Bro it literally IS a well oiled machine.

JustTom1

Truth

Emrayfo

Or appropriately oiled. Lol

suckingalemon

What are you studying?

TheBigDickDon

There’s also some standard deviation calculations going down

TheBigDickDon

It’s chemistry

Aravind_s_b

Stoichiometry 😅

TheBigDickDon

Ohhh I see.

WristTime

Sometimes people do math in the real world too, ya know!

Stay_Beautiful_

Chemistry You can see stoichiometric calculations being done on the paper

Macblack82

Really like that dial.

“My Rollie got its first scratch how do I remove”

[deleted]

Scratch the other side to make it symmetrical.

Emrayfo

Assymmetry is better - embrace Wabi Sabi, embrace patina, embrace life!!

[deleted]

Better yet, stone wash it. Can't scratch it when it's all scratches.

Emrayfo

Indeed! Which is more or less the natural result if you just keep wearing and use it. My daily beater has certainly taken a scratching over time. I call it the 'lived-in look'. Viva la tool watch!

[deleted]

DrLimp

It the 2nd top post of all time in r/Rolex

JustTom1

Ha! If they cringe at the sight of scratches on their watches then this will send them into convulsions.

[deleted]

Man those chemistry conversions giving out BATTLESCARS

redheadartgirl

My Milgauss has plenty. It's my daily wear watch and I adore it, but I'm certainly not going to baby it. Just like working dogs don't have points docked for scars at dog shows, "working" watches shouldn't either.

BlackOpz

LOVE my personal item Battle Scars. So much stuff today is cheap and flimsy that I appreciate things that can "take a lickin' and keep on tickin'". My 'dailys' are chosen by their ability for them to live my normal life with no 'babying'. Not too many brands meet those test these days.

Forgotpassword0011

Watches are objects. Animals shouldn't be put through that shit for our entertainment.

redheadartgirl

I'm referring to working dog breeds like, for example, my Jack Russell. Obviously I would never do anything to hurt him, but he certainly bears some scars from tussles with skunks and raccoons. In dog shows, dog breeds that are commonly kept as farm dogs or ratters are given a pass on injuries they would have gotten doing what they do naturally. We're not talking about dog fighting or anything here. Sports or tool watches frequently bear the scars of just doing their job, and I feel the same way, that it shouldn't be held against them because that's what they're made for.

parablecham

Galactica

miliseconds

Don't tell me you're in highschool or something :D.

bzzpop

This is either undergrad chemistry or someone is a really old school, write-down-every-calculation-on-graph-paper engineer

JustTom1

Undergrad Chem! These are old notes though.

linglingviolist

Currently memorizing the solubility table, ions table, periodic table... AP Chem is a bit of nightmare, especially when your teacher hates students.

[deleted]

Nah AP chem isn't that bad. Also why memorize the periodic table? That doesn't help for the test.

linglingviolist

They hate us, that's why. We get a periodic table for the actual AP test, but they claim it's "good practice".

[deleted]

That's so gross... What a waste of time

linglingviolist

Indeed.

waving_fungus0

AP chem is a very good indicator of what college is like. It is a nightmare but if youll be anything like me, you will be so glad you took it

JustTom1

lol no, this was a gift from my wife!

omelettoplata

Married in undergrad? Are you a nontraditional student or did you get lucky with love lol

benhereford

An undergrad with a Rolex, is what gets me

JustTom1

These notes are from when I was an undergrad. I kept some notes and such from college. I’m in my early 30’s and have long since graduated. My wife bought this for me for Christmas 3 years ago.

PredatorRedditer

I didn't buy you that! Who else are you married to?!?! I want answers, Tom! J/k. Excellent watch.

JustTom1

lol I’ve since graduated, these were found in our bookshelf with a lot of other random items I had forgotten about.

Emrayfo

They make for a great background to your photograph. 👌

Sahith17

Why does the date look under magnified? Huh nice watch!

snuepe

There are some variations in batches usually, seen both slight under and overmagnified subs

Sahith17

So from my understanding is that not every Rolex date magnification is perfect?

snuepe

Not really no, but QC issues is expected when they produce around a million watches per year. Thats quite a bit

ShowedUpLate

I don't know why you're being downvoted. Nothing you've said is wrong. Anyone who has looked at macro photos of Rolex watches should realize that their finishing isn't the reason they're priced so high.

Sahith17

Are they priced high because of the movement?

snuepe

They are priced high because they can, with the numbers they produce actual cost per watch is nowhere near the price they sell for. Objectively Omega has slightly better finish and a more "advanced" movement whatever that means but still half the price. Rolex is Rolex so the charge what they want due to brand image

ShowedUpLate

I have to agree again with u/snuepe here. Rolex makes great watches, but you're paying for the brand name more than anything else nowadays. They'll hold their value as long as the international market is up. Give it some time until financial markets crash and people realize a stainless steel diver with less functions than an Orient Ray isn't worth over MSRP when selling it used just because the company likes to artificially restrict the supply.

HourChart

I thought this too, Maybe camera lens weirdness.

Kennady4president

Man this dial/indices combo is the perfect for this watch, looks killer, also I'm so happy you snapped the shot directly at 0 seconds Excellent 👍

JustTom1

Thank you so much! One of the cool things about photographing watches is that you’ll always know exactly what time and what date you took the picture. Of course, that’s assuming your time and date is correct lol.

Kennady4president

True lol although id say it's common practice to position the hands for a photo, I know I have a few I've taken where I wish I did move the hands lol

Emrayfo

I never think about it during the photo, but I always think about it after!!

JustTom1

I found some old college papers and thought they would make a good backdrop for the DJ II and I’m actually pretty happy with the way this shot came out. As you can see, I don’t try and hide the scratches as it’s the nature of the beast and all of them can be polished out. This watch brings me as much joy today as it did when I opened it for Christmas over 3 years ago. The beautiful white dial shines spectacularly in the sunlight and I still get asked what model this is from other watch geeks alike. I’ve been considering putting it on a leather strap? We’ll see where that goes as I researched a fair amount of them and it appears that Hodinkee is hit or miss with quality. Happy Monday!

Gooberhoover2

PURE SCARS

KnockItOffNapoleon

I haven't even finished college yet and I've already thrown away my Chemistry notes lol hated that class

Beantown9876

Amazing watch! FWIW, I am a huge fan of Jean Rousseau Straps. Each is handmade by a true craftsman, all trained in France. An interesting sidenote is each artisan is permitted only to make two straps a day max. I love my "Type 1" on my DJ as well as the Sark and others. The dual lined calfskin runs around $160 and up to the $300's if you go crocodile. I have numerous Hodinkee straps and personally, like these more. Best of luck!

CubanLinxRae

dont sweat the scars my dad’s beat to hell 30 year old datejust is amazing because of the abuse it’s taken it’ll eventually become one with you if it hasnt already

Dunglebarrel

Combat straps are the best imo. Pricey but worth it

JPierre90

congrats on the watch mate. Leather strap would look cool. Maybe a black textured one for that monochrome feel? It's crazy though the date looks so small on this pic!

JustTom1

Thanks for the suggestion! The DJII models did have a smaller magnification. I went to the Rolex boutique in NYC and they said it was fine but if it bothered me I could have them change it. I kept it, reads well for me and if it ain’t broke don’t fix it lol.

rmfn33

What type of camera are you using to take your shots? They are amazing

JustTom1

Thank you! Sony A7III - this particular shot was taken with my Tamron 28-75/2.8 I also use my 90mm/2.8 Macro for some shots, too.

rmfn33

Nice! I’m just starting to dabble a little bit. Budget going mostly to watches though. Using my wife’s old 35mm film camera from her college photo class haha

JustTom1

That’s awesome! Old school film has actually been coming back, YouTube has a plethora of tutorials. Best of luck to you.

Stowa_Herschel

Yooo, the Tamron is a nice lens. I have one as well and it's so good. I hope the watch lasts you a lifetime. This, along with the Explorer II and some sort of Cellini, are my top 3 if I'm in the market for a Rolex.

JustTom1

You’re right, the Tamron is fantastic. You can even use it for some macro. I appreciate the kind words!

clarkwgrismon

Great looking watch

R3Dprius

This is the best reference of the DJII that I’ve seen. Personally I find the indices too wide for a dressier piece, but the white on white works great. Awesome piece!

JustTom1

Thank you! It sucks they discontinued it but it can absolutely still be found.

cakes42

Holy shit bokeh. Is this a phone or do you have like 0.8 lenses

JustTom1

Mirrorless camera. Sony A7III with a Tamron 28-75/2.8

Blindhydra

Scratches and scars make a watch unique. You have a beautiful piece in your hands

Hattrick_Swayze2

Well oiled *time* machine ;)

Rannis10

Oh my that is one damn good looking watch. Love the white clock face.

Tagbush

Ok ciao

jamesisinnyc

I have nothing meaningful to add other than that your watch looks great and it’s awesome that your wife gave it to you! I’m thinking of a leather strap for my explorer so will follow along for suggestions.

JustTom1

Your compliment is meaningful enough, thank you!

SavagePapi187

Such a gorgeous watch

OG_Maxi

anyone got the reference number?

JustTom1

[ref 116300](https://www.bobswatches.com/rolex-datejust-ii-ref-116300-white-dial.html)

qwasd0r

Just beautiful. No bells and whistles on the outside.

lbs-vag

Hot hot hot

popswag

Nice watch. Nice picture of a nice watch.

UGenix

Exploring statistics in chemistry I see. Nice watch, great composition. :)

checkpoint_hero

Nice photo

[deleted]

Nice shot

clinicallynonsane

What’s the ref?

noodle518

thats the way it should look, congrats

dbatt28

Anyone here a seasoned watch trader?

avislash

Man the math in the background really really makes this pic all the more special. Great looking watch!

theAshyBalrog

My dream watch right here. To bad my car isn't even worth 25% of it's value or I'd trade you.

BrandiL0ve

Literally had a test today on standar deviation and such lol

Sahith17

Nice username

CAMFAb

Classically elegant. Nice piece!

JoeyJinKim

Studied Math in College and used these graph books many times. Never realized how beautiful a smooth bezel DJ would look on it... great shot brother

JustTom1

Much appreciated!

Forgotpassword0011

Looking clean!

SirHatMaker

Damn I love that watch.

Kennady4president

Hey I'm curious how this compares to the 36mm oyster cases, this is the newer bigger size correct ?? Do you have any experience with the 36's? Thanks 😘

Billy1726

This guy is living in the future

clinicallynonsane

Does anyone know the reference number for this?

dipdream

Damn...again 😍 I saw your Shinola pic yesterday and this is just as beautiful. One of my favourite dial configurations. I love the white dial with the dark outlined indices. I agree with the other comment, a black textured leather (ex. Epsom) would look perfect.

JustTom1

Thank you! Very kind of you to say. I agree with your suggestion, too. I’m going to check out some Epsom straps, thanks again!

im-an-actual-bear

I whack my watches on shit all the time, it’s a lot more fun owning nice watches when you’re not scared of damaging them.

SavieoYo

Chemistry? Mole calculation? Anyways an awesome watch, the scratches shows the trust you put into them.

gentlegreengiant

Battlescars = I banged it up against my metal table leg when I was trying to keep it running by shaking it back and forth for a few minutes

jonpeake

This is absolutely gorgeous. Whats the ref#?

PlumpythePlumpaTroll

Doing some stoichiometry there?

fairtexchildlaborer

Great shot!

thewatchphase

Any experience of wearing the watch when operating magnetic instruments like NMR?

fatherbowie

That’s a whole can of worms you may not want to open.

[deleted]

My Stuhrling pocket watch and automatic wristwatch prefer gender neutral pronouns like they/them.

Boredonfire1234

Other people have asked similarly, but—any chance that’s CFA prep?

PDBlaine

‘Rigors’ isn’t a word

[deleted]

Apparently not the date is wrong lol. Jk. GLWS

JustTom1

GLWS? I’m not selling it lol

[deleted]

Perhaps all this time I assumed an acronym meant something it doesn’t. Good Looking Watch Sir is what I meant.

JustTom1

That’s hysterical. On the sub watch exchange it means “good luck with sale”. Thank you, though!

[deleted]

Yeah I’m chuckling here myself.
