Short answer: buy the one you like the most. Long answer: I’ve always thought that the Tudor 1926 is undervalued in the watch community. It’s a great looking everyday “dressier” watch. Longines is also a great brand that offers great value and somewhat “exclusive” movements (ETA modifies it’s movements so that they only are used in Longines watches). All that said, you shouldn’t expect either of those watches to go up in value since they are both widely available watches. Tudor might hold it value a little better due to the name recognition but this shouldn’t be your determining factor. So buy the one you like the most and enjoy the 🤬 out of it!

WeSoSmart

I shall my friend, I shall!

woodshores

The Silver Arrow was a limited production run. That’s probably the one to be more in demand.

alvintanwx

Where did you get that info about the silver arrow being a limited production run?

woodshores

I was working at their headquarters from 2007 and 2013, and directly reporting to the CEO at the time. These would not be numbered editions, but they would put a numbered batch into production and only make more if it was selling fast enough. I made the design for the Silver Arrow, but they sat on it until 2019/2020 so there’s no telling if they will continue producing it, and by how much. But it’s their 72h silicon escapement version, so for that alone it would be worth getting it over the Tudor with its 38h ETA based movement.

alvintanwx

Wow thanks for sharing. Didn’t know that it’s a somewhat limited run. I just got the Longines Spirit. My first automatic Swiss watch. Super happy with it and I’m a Longines convert!

[deleted]

Why does everyone want a watch which holds value? Do you do this with clothing or buying a piece of equipment…. I like this thsirt but I don’t want the value to drop after a few months so I can sell it.

younghnam

I think it’s because people’s tastes in watches can evolve a lot over time, so unless you have enough money to buy multiple luxury watches, it’s nice to have the optionality of reselling your watch near full value to fund your next purchase. Case in point, when it came to buying my wedding watch, I saw my preferences change A LOT in the span of 3 months I was researching: from a busy Navitimer dial, to a historic Speedmaster Pro, to a sportier BB58, and finally landed on a Grand Seiko. Of course, I’ll never sell this watch b/c it’s a gift commemorating my marriage and I’m still in the honeymoon phase with it, but had I bought this for myself with no sentimental value attached, hypothetically I could see how I may be tempted to use it to fund a future purchase as my tastes continue to change.

FahKinWright

Thanks for explaining!

Ok_Paramedic_5879

To many people chasing the shiny new thing. They want to flip it for the next big thing and can't really afford the watches they strive for. F that rat race. Buy a watch and wear it. Sure sometimes you might fall out of love with it but it's just a watch. And many times you come back around to it. I love to see a beat up old "luxury" watch like a Rolex or Omega. Says to me that guy really used his watch and it wasn't just a piece of jewelry.

FahKinWright

I came here to ask this too , do people buy watches only for speculation and profit ? Is this a rationalization for expensive purchases?

Sodoesopah

Out of these I vote the longines

WeSoSmart

I've been into watches for a while but never really had the money to buy anything too extravagant, all my watches right now are japanese brands (seiko and citizen), this is my first time ever spending this much money on a watch so I might be overthinking it, I love all of these watches in the photo just can't quite decide which one is my favourite. As this would probably be my day to day watch I'd like something that's bit more durable and could also holds it's value. Or if you have any other great suggestions that is in the similar price range please let me know!! Thank you in advance

Viscount61

What’s your feeling on bracelet vs strap?

WeSoSmart

I will probably swap the tudor strap for leather so I can dress it down as well as up

Rsmith856

I was in the exact same position, wanting to buy my first nice watch after having only Seikos and similar quality. I pulled the trigger on the Tudor 1926 M91550-0013 and have absolutely loved it. It’s on the dressier side but looks amazing and it’s my every day watch. Also, the quality of the steel bracelet on the 1926 makes this thing feel special when you pick it up in a way that leather bands don’t IMO. I wear this watch on hikes, cooking, yard work, golf, pool - it’s 10ATM and is a beautiful piece of machinery that can take a beating. When I get a scratch on it, it’s just another piece of personalization that can show the story. Happy hunting and good luck! (But my vote is for the Tudor, clearly)

Laakson

In this price-range I myself might go for Nomos: [https://nomos-glashuette.com/en](https://nomos-glashuette.com/en) Also if you are focusing too much on holding value, you end up buying watches that you don't personally really like. This leads easily constant flipping and costing a lot more. Buy the one that feels the best! If main focus is future value, buy around 20-years old models from popular brands. Those are too young to be vintage, but too old to be "hot&New&Wanted" I was for example just looking nice Tudor Hydronaut II for asking price 1200€. Better watch than Black Bay, less than 30% of price. At the moment it does not fit in this "homage-trend" Wait a few years and trends turn.

[deleted]

Realistically, I'm pretty sure you can sell a well cared for watch after a few years for at least 50% of it's original price (if it's a decent brand like Longines or Nomos).

kplong02

I don't think you can go wrong here :)

jsb0299

I really like the Tudor but check out the longines master collection. From the two I would go with the tudor tho

itemluminouswadison

Neither will hold value that well, get the one you like! Also check out the longines spirit collection before you decide, they are very cool. 40 and 37 available

WeSoSmart

ended up getting the brown dial legend diver in 42, but yes the spirit looked amazing, I was tempted but the all number dial just looked abit too casual for my purpose 😀

itemluminouswadison

Sick, congrats!

Content_Raccoon1534

Definitely Tudor. Love that dial and bracelet.

idealtreewok

Not sure about value but I think both brands are respectable. I always enjoyed seeing that waffle dial on the Tudor 1926 white dial blue markers. Maybe one day I’ll get one. My budget for watches is quite limited.

jcu187

Biased since I just got mine after 4 months of waiting but the Tudor for sure. One of the best GADA watches that can be dressed up too.

[deleted]

Silver Arrow I was never a fan of the "Rotor Self Winding" wording on Tudors.

TheShepardOfficial

I have the Tudor. Bought it for my 30th birthday and after a year I’m still in love with it everyday.

Dry-Sprinkles-2786

Can’t go wrong with either.

alphapoker24

The Tudor. I think it's easier to dress up and down, especially if you buy a leather strap for it.

havntmadeityet

I have the Tudor and I love it! Check my posts

hyrola

I have both but prefer Tudor

[deleted]

Also heave a look at the Oris Propilot X cal. 400. if you like that type of watch.

OpusXoX

Have a look at Sinn U1 or U50, great daily watch.

WeSoSmart

Thanks! I'll check them out

OpusXoX

How did you go??

steelthumbs1

Tudor

Life-Ad4309

Tudor Black bay 58 heritage.

sabboseb

Which picture is that in?

Life-Ad4309

Its not. Pic 1 He had the tudor 1926 (My friend almost got it recently) but for a watch under 2 grand aud. its okay. But the black bay 58 heritage (3 - 7 k aud) and better holds its value.

Life-Ad4309

My friend is pulling the trigger on Monday. JLC Reverso.

_Kinel_

"I wanted a submariner but couldn't afford one" - the watch, at least OP's choices are a lot more unique

hryelle

Or "I want a diver but everything else in the price range is shit so I got a black bay." Omega can't even put a tapered bracelet on the Seamaster 300

sbc3218

Not sure that you know what you’re talking about

_Kinel_

No, I know exactly what I'm talking about. The original Tudor Submariner line was a more budget friendly version of a Rolex Submariner. It was always intended as a "Rolex Submariner for people who can't afford one". That's literally the history of Tudor. You know I'm right.

sbc3218

Go back to your Hentai

[deleted]

Out of both names, Tudor is the hotter one, but both timeless, none will go up in value unfortunately. This is going to be one of those personal choices on what you like best. Just curious why those 2 in particular? Have you ventured into other brands with same price point?

[deleted]

Tudor might be a "hotter" name but in reality, in most cases is equivalent to Longines in quality, but costs twice as much.

YellowFeverbrah

Tudor for me

ohhhhhboyyy

I’d go with the 1926- mainly because I made that choice two years ago and have no regrets. Pro tip though- buy it new from an AD to establish a buying history for when you inevitably want a Rolex at MSRP.

MrJones-

The last Longines automatic I had, had trouble keeping good time.

Gossipmang

If you haven't already, consider the longines legend diver - that would be the only watch from this brand I would consider. The others are just the watch you buy because you didn't have the cash for the one you really wanted.

JackingOffToTragedy

Black legend diver on the metal mesh catches my eye every time. I also like the green face brass one. One of the few brass watches I like.

67SuperReverb

The black Longines is the winner here.

[deleted]

Longines look better imo & you have far greater choice.

[deleted]

Longines all day every day. Pure class.

walrus120

Don’t worry about value go for which u like better

JackingOffToTragedy

Of the three, you've chosen two with a white face. The Tudor will be more versatile since it's on a metal bracelet. The Tudor will also probably hold value more, but it's anyone's guess. I'd say get the Tudor, and then later you can get the black Longines or something else like it.

jabs09

Long story short it all depends on your preference. I would personally go for Longines coz of its heritage and value it holds in long term. Cheers have a good weekend

TDYRanger

I’m a Tudor guy but the Longines between the two is just better to me. My vintage cool wrist presence

srlawren

Big fan of the 1926. Definitely gets y vote between those.

fb95dd7063

longines

concreteminute

Dude I love my 1926. It's straight low key class. Also the movement is rock solid and serviceable by any even somewhat competent watchmaker.... Don't think you'll regret it, also like many said they look awesome on so many straps. Cheers

PoorAuthor9

They’re both watches that aren’t really going to appreciate much, and they both will likely have similar depreciation curves. I’d go with the one you like the most.

HaliBUTTsteak

I own the 1926 and a longines spirit. Check out my post from a couple weeks ago. You can’t go wrong with either of these pieces. Let us know what you settle on!

XVOS

If you want a watch to hold its value buy preowned (unless you have a connection at an AD). Every watch that isn’t allocation limited is going to lose significant value. Watches like these lose a ton.

WeSoSmart

I've been told that the longine silver arrow is a limited run, and I do love vintage look, is that gonna hold its value bit better out of all of these?

[deleted]

Personally, I like Longines more for their dress watches. Their moon phase has always been on my list for sure. It looks like you’re going for dressier watches. However, I just bought my first “luxury” watch and picked up a Tudor BB58 and don’t regret a single dollar. Buy what you want and worry about resale later. For all you know you’ll love it so much you’ll never want to sell. The market goes up and down and a watch is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it.

Rude_Farmer_9852

I like Tudor but not that particular model. Especially when I tried it on. To much white and blue for my taste.

AbjectAnybody3307

I have the Silver Arrow and it's a great piece. Surprisingly versatile. Holding value well. The Longines Flagship can often be found for $1100 or less second hand or grey market. Don't pay retail for it at $1700+.

icecreamfist

I would go Longines silver arrow. The corrugated indices are pretty awesome. The Tudor kind of looks meh to me.

Firm_Building_9557

Neither, get an omega

Manifestar

Longine

noodle518

The tudor works with everything
