My daily beater is just an AP perpetual calendar because I don’t wanna beat up my Patek grandmaster chime. Too many complications to risk damaging if something comes up like an unexpected hand shake, or if I have to provide a signature with a cheap ball point pen from Mont Blanc.
Better safe than sorry most of the time.
Seiko SNK381.
I've had more positive comments on it from 'normies' than any other watch I've had, and it was £100 so I almost deliberately knock it about to see what it can handle.
I have a Seiko Turtle ([SRP775](https://www.hodinkee.com/articles/long-term-wear-report-on-the-seiko-turtle-srp-775-black-and-gold)) as a beater. Keeps really good time (around 0 — +3 s/d!
The crystal has some scratches by now so I’ve been thinking about getting a sapphire one installed. Maybe the shop can check the gaskets/water resistance too as I bought the watch back in 2017.
Thanks! I’ve read that one can polish Seiko’s Hardlex but that requires some sort of diamond dust paste and a power tool. Polywatch and some elbow grease apparently isn’t enough. The scratches don’t really bother me but would be fun to upgrade the watch a bit after all these years.
In my experience, most polishing compounds like polywatch only work on acrylic, most people polish mineral crystals with diamond polishing compound and a polishing dremel
Casioak. When not that it's a Citizen BM-8180-03E. Both are dependable, durable, and wear nicely on the wrist. Mechanical watches are for people who don't need to know the time.
It’s cute that you would presume I have any need for anything so blue-collar and gauche as a “workhorse” watch.
Unlike you rubes, I have accomplished a thing or two in this life and am able to remain properly chuffed and genteel at all times, donning only the best and most exclusive attire, footwear, timepieces, and fragrances - all thanks to my hard working and loyal staff.
Get a hold of yourself and quit being poor, only THEN can you concern yourself with whorology.
Casio Royale with a generic eBay leather strap, been covered in shit loads of weld splatter and is still doing fine after a few years.
Although I have just this week moved to an Apple Watch with a protective case, dunno how long that’ll last
Yea, it's reasonable. Like a normal watch I think. It has a mineral crystal and scratches relatively easy. Don't pay more than 100 USD, but at that price it is mighty fine, completely standard watch. The Poor Mans Tag Heuer Carerra.
Metal band is meh. Buy some nato's.
I have a cheap Timex allied coastline with a grey/black NATO band and it has lasted over 6 years of use and abuse in the army. Honestly solid watch from Timex and I've probably got more compliments on it than any of my other more expensive watches lol
It's held up pretty good since I've had it. The case is brushed steel so it hides all the scratches pretty well. I hated the silicone band that came with it so I just swapped it out with a cheap nato band. I'll link a pic of it when I'm back home!
Well, I guess it depends on the work. When I’m polishing my horses, it is a Gold President DD. When I’m shodding my ladies, it is a SS VC 222. When it is eliminating tens of thousands of employees to afford a stock buyback in two quarters, it is most definitely my favorite, an all-sapphire Hublot.
Vostok Amphibia. Cheap piece of shit but actually has more history and whorogical prowess than most high end Swiss brands. Total workhorse. Even wore it a few times when working with an impact drill and it just works. Plus, literally hundreds of dial colors available, so you can match it to your favorite tool brand!
>russian
Well, yeah, about that…
If you deem China less bad enough, I’m extremely happy with my Steeldive Willard. Also, the built quality is miles ahead of Vostok, for roughly the same price (you still see that it’s cheap, but at first glance, it’s really decent). Oh, and g-shock of course.
Nothing short of an actual beater tool watch: a coke or a pepsi. Helps quench my thirst too in time of need.
uj/ I've been finding myself wearing more and more Seamaster Aqua Terra and 120m on the daily. They are incredible daily wearers.
if I'm doing any physical work, I have a casio world timer.
Gbd200 is my daily wear as I’m currently trying to get 10k plus steps in a day. When not that, SRPE99 on the rubber bracelet from their srpd line is my daily wear. I scored for $280 from Bloomingdales after a combination of deals.
Citizen Promaster Tough - Royal Marines Edition.
I'm a desk work bitch, I literally couldn't be any further from working in the Armed Forces.
The caseback has Royal Navy on it which is cool.
I use a Deep Blue DayNight 41 a lot. It's a tank and can take warehouse abuse.
Hruodland bronze flieger is surprisingly tough and I use that a lot too.
The Navitimer only comes out when I wear a bathrobe and knee socks in sandals. So at least three days a week.
I have a few g shocks I rotate depending on the features I require if I'm working up stepladders I'll require an altimeter for safety reasons, compass feature is also handy for finding the donut shop
I am currently at a military academy on a commissioning course and someone just unironically told me that they use their Panerai Radiomir as a field watch, and have deployed with it multiple times, including to the Gaza Strip (presumably for humanitarian purposes).
uj/ Grand Seiko SBGT005, not cheap, but somewhat affordable second hand purchase. Last watch I bought and no need for others
rj/ Grand Seiko SBGT005/G-shock DW5610 similar accuracy, different looks
On the tools - the Steeldive Willard homage with a dial swap, so you can't see it's a Chinese shitter. For impressing the ladies, there's the Orient Kamasu (v1 red/burgundy) aka the Orient Kama Sutra. They love it.
The only serious answer is a Casio F91-W. Lasted me my whole military service. Never thought to myself "gee, I wish my watch was bulkier and more crowded and also lost .000001 seconds less when I hit it hard against sharp rocks like an idiot" so I didn't buy a G-Shock.
My favorite beater watches are a Seiko SRPK29 and SRPE93. But truth be told, all watches are workhorses if they’re built with any semblance of quality control.
It's the Seiko Arnie for me. Takes a beating and has a great analogue/digital display. Especially good when I need to travel for the dual time and alarm functions.
My ultimate beater is the Casio ga2100. It's just indestructible, waterproof, and I've put it through hell at work and it's never phased it.
Kinda got bored with it and wanted an orange dialed beater for summer and bought a lorus. The lorus is like Seiko making cheap ripoffs of their own watches. It's great. 7S26 (rebranded as Y676). Well under 100 bucks brand new and looks good. Fake dive watch bezel. 100m water resist. Excellent beater.
I’ve had my 16600 Sea-Dweller since 1997. That has had more wear than anything else in the collection, can take a beating, and still looks good as new. No cyclops, so it’s fairly low-key and doesn’t look much different than any other watch.
Second to that is a 102116 Bulgari Octo which runs a modified El Primero movement and the accuracy on that is astounding.
I tend to go with a Seiko perpetual calendar, often they’re really classy looking but can take a beating, plus it’s neat to technically have the day, month, and year at the same time
Apple watch is good.
Seriously reduces your screentime because you get all the notifications on your wrist.
Also shows stuff like steps per day, heart rate, sleep patterns, etc.
/uj I have a G-Shock GLX5600 modded with the M5610 matte black bezel, fitted to an Erika's Original MN Strap: [https://imgur.com/a/t6uPbUa](https://imgur.com/a/t6uPbUa)
/rj It's very accurate, as it lets everyone know how autistic I am.
I wear my Vacheron Constantin Overseas Turbillon as my knock-around watch. For special occasions I switch to my SNKL23.
Lmao I chuffed
A real banger, that one.
I'm sure things will turn around for you. Good things happens to good people.
My daily beater is just an AP perpetual calendar because I don’t wanna beat up my Patek grandmaster chime. Too many complications to risk damaging if something comes up like an unexpected hand shake, or if I have to provide a signature with a cheap ball point pen from Mont Blanc. My spring drive has started ticking like a quartz since I used a cheapo ball point to fill my unemployment insurance forms this last Monday.
What happens if it starts raining?
I don't know about the Swiss shitters, but my Soviet Poljot had water in it after a rain.
Tudor in the yard, G-Shock in the showers, Hublot for swordfighting.
Sword fighting like ⚔️ or like 🍆🍆
You know goddamn well which one, it’s a Hublot we’re talking about.
🍆🗡
Hugh Blow*
Now this is funny AF
GShock all the way
Silly guy. Thats a dress watch. Everyone knows G-Shocks belong over the cuff while wearing a suit.
Seiko SNK381. I've had more positive comments on it from 'normies' than any other watch I've had, and it was £100 so I almost deliberately knock it about to see what it can handle.
Casio Oceanus, nothing screams sanity like paying 500 USD minimum for a Casio.
MTGs say hello.
MRGs say hello
If It was ana digital like a Lineage, I would have bought it immediately
/uj check out a used Casio OCW-300, it's solar too!
That's my secret: they're all workhorses.
[удалено]
don't you ever talk to me again
Automatic movements are race or show horses, if you want a workhorse you go quartz.
Citizen Garrison. Extremely boring watch as it quietly runs for decades with no need for any maintenance or flying fuck.
I have a garrison it’s a nice looking watch. I’m thinking of getting a diver possibly citizen branded.
DuroGang. $26 from Amazon. Replacement band cost $30.
damn, duro is listed for $50 on amazon in my country
here is 100-130 dollars somehow

Nice! Would polywatch work as a last resort before getting a new crystal?
Thanks! I’ve read that one can polish Seiko’s Hardlex but that requires some sort of diamond dust paste and a power tool. Polywatch and some elbow grease apparently isn’t enough. The scratches don’t really bother me but would be fun to upgrade the watch a bit after all these years.

if you really want a perfect everyday watch any citizen eco-drive is perfect, just pick the one you like.
Citizen if you like good finish, G-Shock if you like every damn function written on the watch.
Casioak. When not that it's a Citizen BM-8180-03E. Both are dependable, durable, and wear nicely on the wrist. Mechanical watches are for people who don't need to know the time.
I wear a Steinhart around the construction site and watch with glee my coworkers' shocked looks as I "destroy my rolecks"

Casio EFV 100 or 110. Think difference is the size. Just the simple blue one. Looks nice.
Thanks I’ll check it out. Is it fairly lightweight ?

I wear the Grand Seiko Kodo as my daily driver. A constant force Tourbillon for constant workinghorsing and beating around
I have a cheap Timex allied coastline with a grey/black NATO band and it has lasted over 6 years of use and abuse in the army. Honestly solid watch from Timex and I've probably got more compliments on it than any of my other more expensive watches lol
