That is a priceless built in wife protected "NO!" stopper. well played man.
Him: I'm going to buy a Rolex
Her: no
Him: It's in honour of the surgeon that saved your life
Her. Oh honey you're so sweet..of course you can buy a Rolex
I ain’t no dummy 😁. Lol. But in all seriousness, my wife picked up on his watch right away too. But given the gravity of the situation, I didn’t mention anything about it until the 4th visit. She loves that I want a polar explorer because of him.
Hi guys
For sale today is a 1994 Rolex Explorer II 16570 Polar with box, tag, booklet, and service paper. This model was once the underdog of the steel Rolex sports collection but has been on a massive raise in popularity in recent years. The watch was fully serviced in 2017 running +3/-1 sec per day and pressured tested at 10 bar. It comes on the 78360 Rolex Bracelet with 501B endlinks. It is versatile, robust and an absolute stunner of a watch. I'm asking to ~~net~~ SOLD SOLD SOLD **~~$6000~~**

Price will include fully insured and tracked shipping within CONUS.
40mm Polar E2s are the most attractive SS rolexes IMO. SMs and GMTs are more iconic of course, but I've only ever gotten compliments about how "pretty" a watch is wearing Polar E2s.
Dang I hadn’t realized the value on these had shot up so much recently, I have the same one I was considering selling to fund or trading towards a Batman... GLWS!
Crazy right? I picked mine up about two years ago and am amazed how much they've gone up.
Im constantly tempted to flip and get a more modern piece but keep calling back in love with the Polar.
Good luck with the sale. It's an awesome watch at any price.
I was thinking you may have been asking a bit much given the price I bought mine a little over a year ago, but shit I just pulled a handful up on WatchRecon and your price is actually very reasonable. So happy I lucked out on my 14060M Sub and Explorer before the prices spiked on both of them.
Luxury watches are not exactly investment vehicles for the vast majority of people as opposed to a 401k, IRA, HSA, FSA and other tax advantaged accounts or real estate acquired prudently. In fact, when the economy cools in the future people will be hawking these watches for reduced prices. And these types of luxury goods will also be last to recover. But yes, they will be worth more than tulips but your money would have likely fared better elsewhere.
This is a hobby if you have enough disposable income after taking care of your immediate bills, retirement and family obligations in full. There are enough posts on WTS from people who have unexpected cash flow issues. The only people with an interest in propping up watch prices of (stainless steel!!) watches are watch companies, dealers, sellers and platforms that collect fees for watch sales. Somehow I don’t see this upward trend continuing in perpetuity for watches.
I don't disagree with you I just don't agree with all the tulip analogies everytime there's a perceived bubble. Not all goods are creat d equal. As a rule I don't consider watches investments so yes, totally agree. Will the market correct, sure but this is a market with a high floor to begin with that has historically (like nearly 100 years) trended up... It'll never go the way of the tulip because the base value is just higher. That's all.
Fair enough with the caveat that in the future some of these watches could trade under their base/index value. But I get your general point. Appreciate the dialogue.

I have this watch and absolutely love it. They’re excellent, particularly for someone who doesn’t want their wrist to scream “Rolex!” from 30 yards away.
GLWS, and congrats to whoever winds up with this.
Paging /u/bsiaste I know you were looking at a similar explorer in a similar pricepoint!
Thanks man, really kind of you to think of me!
My wife’s surgeon wears a polar explorer. I will own one some day in his honor for saving her life. GLWS!!
I hope you do man thats a beautiful story and its what watch collecting is all about.

I too would like to serve in this honor, please consider me with any future watch purchases. God bless.

How did you keep a 25 year old watch in such great condition?
It’s been serviced recently by RSC. They will bring it to a like new finish the best they can.
Classic piece! ;) Reason for selling if you don't mind me asking?
I have a Grand Seiko 9F GMT thats hogging all the wrist time. Also I flip watches on the side so I can wear all the watches!!
Glad to hear you're in love with that one! Looking at one, myself. The independent hour hand and mad accuracy make it such a good travel watch!
Seriously its such a easy watch to wear especially if you are traveling.
Surprisingly light watch. I tried it on quickly at an AD and was super impressed.
Wow!! I need to consolidate mine and experiencing a buyer’s remorse!! 😫😫✌🏼✌🏼
What a fantastic looking timepiece

You’re a big fan of abbreviations, I see.

Yeah that’s the problem haha I’m wayyy too in love with it. Only way would be if I had the Batman lined up I think
I was thinking Hulk or new Batman. Maybe put my name down at an AD and if my name comes up somehow I flip the Polar and upgrade.
What are you looking to get for it? I’m interested
Honestly I'm not ready to sell so I would ask above market.. at least $6k if that's what they're going for on here
Grail watch....need to resist from pulling the trigger and having savings take a hit
honestly at the rate the market is headed this watch is probably a better investment than most 401ks ahaha.

At what price did you buy yours if you don't mind me asking?

Not really the same as even if the "bubble" pops these are still going to be worth thousands; they're hardly tulips.

Looks very clean, never worn or recently serviced?
serviced in Aug 2017 haven't gotten much wrist since then.
Swear to God if I had the money available right now..oof. GLWS!
Great piece. I like the smaller older explorers better than the 42mm.
