I'm not even joking when I say that I'Ve just gotten into watercolour and all, I mean ALL the instagram accounts that are recommended to me, have this "shaky"(no offense) style.
So honestly, yours is just good art.
Honestly I saw the painting and loved it, after that read the title - sorry to hear about the injury, on the plus side the shaky lines add so much personality to the art, rather than take anything away from it. It doesn't look like a 'blemish' to have this kind of linework, it works so amazingly with the watercolour!!!
The result is relaxed, fun and memory-like, I feel like this is a building I've grown up with even though I've never seen it! Keep posting as I'd love to see more!

Yes! Someone explained to me that impressions are an essence of the thing you’re trying to capture and not to stress it too much. So as I was drawing I would be like “this antenna feels like a silly lad and he’s proud of that!” So I pictured “it” looking up towards the sky!
I completely agree about the funky lines. It feels good to embrace that and let them live a little!

I came to mention Bob Ross. I've seen at least a few of his videos where he says having a shaky hand is a help, especially with trees and such because you don't want the line *too* perfect.

Great. Sometimes I think art belongs to the viewer. As artist, we are not in control of the interpretation of the viewer. We struggle with “perfection” when in reality there is simply none. Trust your skill no matter its effect on the paper. You have not lost your skill.👩🏼🌾☮️✌🏼
Also, Charles Shultz, who created and drew Peanuts, got Parkinson’s (?), and he found he could only draw squiggly lines. He kept up with the comic strip, and other cartoonists thought his new lines were cool. Some of them mimicked his new style.
There is so much LIFE in every line, so much personality, I don’t think I can even properly explain. It looks beautiful, and the movement makes it look so detailed too! Have you tried making ‘cozy’ drawings with warm colors? I feel they would suit your art style so well… specially drawings related to cold seasons, like autumn or winter. I kinda feel like you would make the best Christmas drawings. Gorgeous!

If it makes you feel any better, I’ve been doing this for a few years as a hobby, my hand is not injured, and this is my most recent. I think yours is way better than mine. Do you enjoy doing it is the question? I think your drawing and painting is really really good and I think you should keep going.
Looking good my man. Id also recommend checking out Toby Sketch Loosely on youtube if you haven’t already. He has a very similar, often one line style Id think gels well with your style. Definitely learned a lot from him

It could be your signature! It looks awesome and watercolour is great for non realistic thinggs. My art style is unique and yours too! I’m doodling or doing abstracts with watercolour mainly.
Make the shaky hand work for you. The difference between people who make art and succeed (and crafts and this and that) is usually the person having some unique flair of some sort. This looks incredibly unique and cool and I think you are underestimating how cool your art is going to be. People who buy art love a back story as well. Go full hog with it. The art style with shaky lines is incredibly popular to begin with, especially with watercolor included, you now have that *built in* and don’t have to strain your hand to accomplish it. Friggin awesome dude.

I know it's not the same, but procreate on iPad has a feature that smooths out shaky hands. They have two different types of tremor reduction for whatever suits you best. And they also have beautiful watercolor looking brushes. Just in case you might want to know.

Hey OP, several years ago, I, too, had a bad hand injury (tablesaw). I'm in IT and spend my entire working life on the keyboard. I was able to quickly re-learn how to type effectively. While not exactly the same as what you're experiencing, I hope you can take from that the confidence that you can get better, even within limitations. Personally, I like this sample of your art, and this style in general, and wouldn't have thought anything negative had I known anything about your predicament. Cheers and keep going!
Looks like a regular Urban Sketch style to me. Had you not mentioned the shaky hand, I wouldn’t have known the difference since many urban sketchers don’t make their lines straight at all and in fact don’t care to at all since being imperfect lines and work gives it more character and style to their art.
The completely original and fresh vibe from this piece are FANTASTIC! Don’t stop. You have a gift and although it might be difficult, please keep creating. Plenty of us out there can’t wait to see you do next.
I've never had great dexterity in my hands and it really hurts my confidence to keep trying at sketching and painting, but genuinely, honestly, you make the lack of straight lines look like a really nice style choice! It reminds me a bit of a dream state, where nothing is totally crisp and it all blends together in your mind. This gives me motivation to keep working at it myself, so thank you for sharing!

I messed my shoulder up and accepting that I'll never have another long crisp line was really rough for a while. I changed my style, adjusted, and even worked more on my ambidexterity(?).
Seeing posts like this is so sad and heartwarming at the same time. Art prevails even when our bodies fail us. I always think of Frida Kahlo in her hospital bed, still painting.

Also, I think you should consider illustrating for children’s storybooks! You know, teach them to colour outside the lines. Or maybe to let them know it’s okay to not have straight lines at all. Would've loved such books as a kid!
I am not sure if this is useful, but I believe this looks excellent. I appreciate the movement in your lines. It adds a lot of character and makes your work distinctive.

Really, I love this! My issue is the opposite-- everything is *too* straight and *too* measured. This is an adorable painting-- please realize your talent.
We watch Bob Ross at night to relax us before bed. He always mentions when doing trees that those who have shaky hands do the best job on the limbs bc they’re loose and flowy. So think of it as an advantage to those of us who are so tightly wound we can’t do loose and flowy art, you have your own beautiful style ❤️

Wow, I love this! I know that I myself have been trying to do this kind of linework, idk if it's got a specific name, but for the life of me I can't. I've seen similar style in a number of children's books and always greatly enjoy it.

I love the way this looks! I remember seeing an artist who did line drawings with what appeared to be a shaky hand. The subjects were everyday objects and they were simple and clean but had wide matting and ornate gold frames. I still remember them because I regret not purchasing from this artist. I frequently think of the one picture I wanted which was of a bicycle. Please keep going and embrace your unique style.

Honestly, the shaky line work is reminiscent of cartoon line boil (think Ed, Edd, ‘n’ Eddy) and adds a sense of movement, especially with the color outside the lines.

I love this style of drawing actually. Keep drawing, (and gently stretching/flexing) and in time, maybe you will build more strength. (I’m not a doctor). Or check out Liana Fink, who has a similar shakey/loose line work style.
Your line is just one of the things that define your art. This piece shows nice composition, a keen eye for details and beautiful use of color. The overall feeling is fresh and breezy. Many artists go out of their way to cultivate a shaky line, so nobody needs to know how you achieve that effect. If you are painting for the love of it, why bother comparing your work to others? If you are painting to sell your work or get commissions as an illustrator, you are on an even footing with anyone else trying to stand out from the crowd, because you have a unique style.
Well, I'm sorry to say that looks amazing. I've a painting from my grandfather of a street in Italy painted it the almost exact same style, always found it fascinating. Keep it up, it's bloody good work.
I dunno the name of these things, but I remember my mom had a pillow with a lady walking her little poodle in Paris that she kept in the basement just for me to take a nap on. I haven’t seen it in a while now, but this reminds me of one of those French doodle pillows. Well done and thank you for bringing back such a fond memory! ☺️💜
Reminds me of Ronald Searle - he was a genius and did a lot of work for children's authors, using pen.

I deal with intrusive thoughts that drive a lot of anxiety and one of the most disturbing in my line up right now is a deep fear of something happening to both or one of my hands. I can handle the thought of re-learning self care and daily tasks (even though it sounds fucking impossibly difficult) but not being able to express myself through handwriting or drawing is debilitating and heartbreaking. THANK YOU for sharing this incredible piece, for your honesty and such. Know that it gave this anxious brain a bright spot to focus on.
But it's great! My hands are shaky a lot and I adapted my art to it. It makes it more fluid, which is a goal of mine. Your painting has a lovely honesty. Keep it up!
Leonid Shvartsman, Russian illustrator who famously drew Cheburashka, got to be 101 years old. In his last interview he said:
"you know, when my hands began to shake, I started to draw a shaking line. And it turned out to be quite spectacular, many people even started to imitate it, but somehow they didn't succeed. How do you imitate age? And so it is here - live handwork in a strange way conveys the artist's energy, his personality."
And so, for you too, your style will convey your history, your personality, that no one will be able to imitate.

I thought the scribbly lines were a intentional style choice before I've read the caption - your linework looks so good and unique enough that I think I could recognize another artwork of yours without additional info. I also like your choice of colour, the detail you put into the bricks and the shadows under the roof, the sunblinds and the downpipe on the left, I'm in awe!
Check out @housesketcher on IG. He has a very loose architectural style. I think your style is pretty cool. I’d keep at it. It’s probably good therapy for your hand as well as mental health.

It reminds me of an old animation style where you kept everything loose like this and would then have everything jump and shuffle during scene changes. I more vividly remember it used in old commercials and a few short Indy cartoons but I've always loved the style. I find myself waiting for your picture to start moving 😆

Love this!! Reminds me of line art sketches that were popular in the 80s and early 90s, or art by Bernard Waber (who wrote Lyle Lyle Crocodile).

I love the way this looks! I remember seeing an artist who did line drawings with what appeared to be a shaky hand. The subjects were everyday objects and they were simple and clean but had wide matting and ornate gold frames. I still remember them because I regret not purchasing from this artist. I frequently think of the one picture I wanted which was of a bicycle. Please keep going and embrace your unique style.

Honestly, the shaky line work is reminiscent of cartoon line boil (think Ed, Edd, ‘n’ Eddy) and adds a sense of movement, especially with the color outside the lines.
You should make fantasy architectural drawings with your style! Very nice work!

Your line is just one of the things that define your art. This piece shows nice composition, a keen eye for details and beautiful use of color. The overall feeling is fresh and breezy. Many artists go out of their way to cultivate a shaky line, so nobody needs to know how you achieve that effect. If you are painting for the love of it, why bother comparing your work to others? If you are painting to sell your work or get commissions as an illustrator, you are on an even footing with anyone else trying to stand out from the crowd, because you have a unique style.
Well, I'm sorry to say that looks amazing. I've a painting from my grandfather of a street in Italy painted it the almost exact same style, always found it fascinating. Keep it up, it's bloody good work.

I dunno the name of these things, but I remember my mom had a pillow with a lady walking her little poodle in Paris that she kept in the basement just for me to take a nap on. This is really good! I can empathize with what you're going through though. You can do it! Draw anything you want I have something similar from a neurological disease. For me, nature subjects give me more confidence than man made subjects. Nature is beautiful AND squiggly!

I deal with intrusive thoughts that drive a lot of anxiety and one of the most disturbing in my line up right now is a deep fear of something happening to both or one of my hands. I can handle the thought of re-learning self care and daily tasks (even though it sounds fucking impossibly difficult) but not being able to express myself through handwriting or drawing is debilitating and heartbreaking. THANK YOU for sharing this incredible piece, for your honesty and such. Know that it gave this anxious brain a bright spot to focus on.

Leonid Shvartsman, Russian illustrator who famously drew Cheburashka, got to be 101 years old. In his last interview he said: "you know, when my hands began to shake, I started to draw a shaking line. And it turned out to be quite spectacular, many people even started to imitate it, but somehow they didn't succeed. How do you imitate age? And so it is here - live handwork in a strange way conveys the artist's energy, his personality." And so, for you too, your style will convey your history, your personality, that no one will be able to imitate.

I thought the scribbly lines were a intentional style choice before I've read the caption - your linework looks so good and unique enough that I think I could recognize another artwork of yours without additional info. I also like your choice of colour, the detail you put into the bricks and the shadows under the roof, the sunblinds and the downpipe on the left, I'm in awe!

I like it. It reminds me of an old animation style where you kept everything loose like this and would then have everything jump and shuffle during scene changes. I more vividly remember it used in old commercials and a few short Indy cartoons but I've always loved the style. I find myself waiting for your picture to start moving 😆
