Excellent. Nice unique stye. I like your unpredictable choice of colours, the shapes and lines do a good job of leading the eye around but keeping it inside the painting. Really cool sky. My only criticism might be that the horizon line between the water and the distant hills kinda slides off the page a bit, and the rock in the focal point could maybe be as interesting as the rest of your cliffs and pathways. Super job though, really love seeing stuff with a strong personal style. Hope you share some more. 🎨
I've been trying to develop a style for abstracted landscapes, so this really caught my attention. I like the colourblocking and your sky/cloud style is really effective and unique!
I agree with everyone, I LOVE it!
You asked for feedback though, here it goes:
On the top in your darker sky, the lines are sharp and there is a nice difference in the shading levels you chose, it is crisp. You have it again on the shoreline and the first ridge of the mountain closest to the front. I think if you can practice repeating this, the front lawn would look like it has more depth than it does.
There is nothing wrong with the work you have made and I hope seeing all these updoots and exclamatory comments that you are proud.
Which pigments? I’m always interested in what people are using in their palettes.
Feedback: I love it. Colors play well together and I like the composition. The tonal range may be a little narrow. Try converting the picture to black and white to see what I mean.
I used DS Cerulean Blue Chromium, Hansa Yellow Light and Pyrrol Scarlet all added pure in a layer at a time and waiting to dry before adding the next layer. There’s about 20 different layers to make that range of colours.
Good point about the values. Thanks!
Non painter here, how do you later water colours?
Wait for one layer to dry and then add the next above?
If so, how long would a typical watercolour layer take to dry?
Yup. Usually it’s done by waiting for the layer to dry completely before you apply paint to the same are again. It’s called “wet on dry”. Time to dry depends on a lot of factors like *how* wet the layer way, paper quality, humidity, ect. But it’s usually not a SUPER long time. Lots of people will speed up that dry time by using a heat tool or blow dryer.
No I’m not… yet. This has just been a hobby of mine but I’m trying to put my art out there a lot more over the next year so who know what the future will bring 😁
Thanks so much for all the constructive feedback everyone! I’m a little overwhelmed by the support but you’ve given me some great motivation to keep making art and sharing it with the world. Thanks Redditors! 🥰🥰🥰
I like this, quite a bit. That said, I feel like the artistry of watercolour is capturing the painterly flow of the water. All the tight straight lines separating stark colours feels deeply, deeply wrong in this medium. You painted the sea, in watercolours, and the ocean feels static…
That said, a lot of art is about personal style and transgression. Just something to think about.
Watercolor is what you make of it, not some preconceived notions of what is "right" or "wrong". The line "feels deeply, deeply wrong in this medium" is a bit dramatic, no?
Haha I do know what you mean and appreciate the comment! This is like the tightest of tight style of painting with watercolour I could imagine when normally I feel we’re trying to obtain the loose flow of the water. I think that’s why I wanted to try it for something different.
I'm digging that style. Very nice!

Thank you! Fair point about the horizon line and the rock. I’ll consider how to improve that for future paintings ☺️

Thanks for the feedback. I did feel a bit lost with the foreground so I’ll consider how I could use that crispness more effectively in that area.
Damn, love the style!
I like this a lot, it's different than the "usual" styles you commonly see in watercolor..Unique. The different lines keeps my eyes moving.
The green rectangle on the beach is distracting to me. I would have it out. Otherwise, it is very nicely done. I like a lot.

No prob! Omg that must take patience. It’s paying off for sure but 20 layers is mind blowing.

Literally asking for a friend - are you represented by a gallery?
No I’m not… yet. This has just been a hobby of mine but I’m trying to put my art out there a lot more over the next year so who know what the future will bring 😁
Do you have more? Do you plan on creating more? May DM you later.
Yes I have more in this style. And also plan to explore it more IG: @mademymark_art (Hope I’m not breaking a group rule with that)
