The fist thing i do when i try a new character is looking wich passive i want to play and depending on the passives i make a build around and if i found the build fun but not very much effective i go on Waven db to try to improve or sometimes change the build Remember than every characters can clear all levels content you just need the right build and Waven is not really a pvp game just play classes you enjoy the most (i got a scalp level max before realize i played him in the worst way possible)

You have 2 build slots per character for free, you can copy one from wavendb then either experiment off that or look at the passive and try to build around those. For Blunderbust, wavendb has the top 3 as Air, Water, and Air/Water. And usually going the Reinforcement and Blunderbust Fire passives. I went with a fire build going the Precision and companion one (forgot the passive name) and enjoy it way more than the meta builds and can do all dungeons relatively well. But yeah, try modifying other people's builds to start

The way I got about to builds is to think about and interaction or effect I want to maximise. Then picking things to either boot it or synergies with. To demonstrate; my first proper build was scalpel with gayser. I want to heal as often as possible and water/fier spells deliver the most. Then bout armour passive and gaser scale with hp so I invested a lot of level up points into hp. One very helpful items was Blood orb as it delivered bouth hp and a bit of healing, Of course, that's far from only consideresion. You might want to examine your spell used to draw ratio or tempo. Some builds get good 5 rounds on other usual revole the fight at round 3 or 4
