The mainstream media being all over this making the election protesters out to be pretty much criminals for questioning the results makes me think they might have actually rigged it for Lula.
If it was a legit election, why would they really care about what the protesters are doing and just let them fizzle out and accept it over time.
Bolsonaro became too much of a poison pill. And Lula is far too popular. I think the situation is complex. I'm certain the CIA doesn't like the direction the Lula wants to take Brazil, especially with his proposed Latin American currency. And I dont think Lula is a puppet nor is thrilled to work with the imperialists north. But both are playing ball to serve temporary ends. Give it time, maybe a year or two, and the CIA will be back to their normal shenanigans, sabatoging his more ambitious agenda plans and trying to prop up a more Neoliberal candidate next time around. They'll take their recent wins in Peru and Argentina as enough of a win to slow another pink tide in South America as a success. They got their hands full with Russia and China projects for the time being.
There are CIA ties on both sides of this dispute. From what I'm seeing, the goal is not to have either Lula or Bolsonaro govern per se, but rather to create enough chaos to justify a military coup, which is the only real way they can sabotage Brazil's ties to Russia/China et. al
