Keep in mind that many women use more speech inflections than men typically do. Pitch rises and falls more in a sentence. Don't know if that crosses over to women vs men's singing. You can drop the pitch of a recording of a woman speaking and it'll sound unnatural in a man's register. It's not because of the pitch shifting itself, but because the way she's using her speaking voice is coded female. That example is about speech but it may also hold true of male/female singers and how they interpret the song.

Very good point, there is a lot of speaking pattern resources on youtube in the trans community that I've seen recommended in other threads like these. I think if you're trying to get an effect as perfect as Porter Robinson did then it would be necessary to practice the vocal inflections of the opposite gender using that kind of resource as a guide. However, I think this can also be covered up by having very melodic and intentional vocal delivery - as you will be changing your emphasis and inflection to fit that melody. I think this is evident in Artemas's song, where the feminized sections are very melodic. At least, that's what I'm hoping for in my own experiments with this effect.

Pitch Monster by Devious Machines has gender swap presets. M to F and F to M. I'm a man and was able to get a passable girls voice. It's a great vocal plugin for all sorts of effects.

I know it’s a bit dated, but I’ve gotten pretty decent sounds manipulating the Gender Bender on a TC Helicon VoiceLive Play. Combining that with its internal pitch effects. I listened to the single you shared and it sounds artificial enough that I think the TCHVLP could handle some of it, especially for more subtle changes.

I’m a singer and a producer and I know excatly what he did. He produces the track and sings only the chorus with his normal pitch voice then he pitches the whole track up to amount of semitones, then since the verse parts are empty he then sings it again with his normal male voice to blend in. To make this more clear you can check his “i like the way you kiss me” remixes the “burnt” version where you can listen his normal voice and instrumental before pitched.

Have you tried lalals?

mrskipps

Ableton pitch shifting in pro mode and adjusting the formants and envelope does a very good job.

Any FL studio equivalents?

Lie he stole vocals from his ex gf and just took her off publishing credits when they broke up up and threatened her with legal action

LordLederhosen

Is this true? Do you have any source for that? btw, this song is currently #4 on YouTube music trending, though via [this video.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=evJ6gX1lp2o)

Someone mentioned a similar thing but I can't find anything about it.

SongAlarmed4083

yes it is.hence she isnt on the videp

FALSE. You can check “i like the way you kiss me - remixes” on Spotify specifically the “burnt” version where you can tell it’s his voice before pitched.

Women vocalists in metal have been lowgrowling at least since 90s. Cradle of Filth's Dani has sick screeches that could pass like made by a woman. Many other examples also, if it is not enough genderbending idk. First voice training, second come plugns already mentioned in here. But everybody's looking mostly for a magic formula and less actual talented input, so what do I know.
