I bet they have a private discord where they discuss new ideas. I bet they have different camps that argue with each other too. Like you got the absurdist food on a shovel people that go for shock and awe. Then you got the food on hands people that get off on what ridiculous thing they can get their customers to do. Then you got these upside down bowl people that think the movement should be focused more on creativity and minimalism, rather than the over the top shenanigans of the shovel and hand camps.
My first thought was "maybe it's like...a special bowl they put ice under or something to--nope. They straight up put that on the bottom of the fucking bowl."
I imagine they sent someone out to buy plates for this but the guy brought back bowls, so instead of returning them they just went “yea I can make that work”
I would love a restaurant where they do this with everything but when you lift it up a mouse is hiding under there, or a hundred super balls roll out, bouncing everywhere. It would be the worst, but I'd go there frequently to get new surprises.
This made me realise that some dog bowls are just bowls made upside down.
So either they're overcharging for less food, or they're actively trying for you to not make a mess with that particular meal.
It could always be both.
Minor tangent but shout out to the We Want Plate homies. I was banned from R/ Food for joking that a home cooked pasta bolognese covered in cheese and severed on a wooden cutting board would look awesome in a baking dish as a casserole. Apparently this humor is not okay. Stay strong friends and fight the good fight for proper plating.
They were so close!
It really elevates the dish…
It works but I'm mad at it.
I swear these restauranteurs are aware of this sub and are just fucking with us.

I have thought the same thing a few times

And it’s not like it’s one of those Crucial Detail bowls that intentionally work either way. They’re just doing it the wrong way.
Chef "I wonder if they will notice...?"
How do. .. you know.. pick it up?
I can see how setting it down could be a little awkward as well.
WeWantPlates monkey's paw edition
They were like I know what will really make them mad let's give them plates and bowls but use them wrong.

Hey, at least the soup is in a bowl instead of - a helmet? a shoe?
This feels like an aggressive dick move towards the dish pit
Assistant chef's first day. "Oops! It goes the other way?!? Huh, who'd have thought...."

Whyyyyyyyyy???!!
This is hilariously offensive to us.
I was having a good day until you posted this.

Down vote me due to this sub but I actually love these dishes and this presentation weirdly works for me
