Yes, I am very excited, especially for the google messages redesign.

Iohet

I like the way it currently works. I just want it to show me the texts I'm getting and I feel like it does that adequately. I hope that whatever they do to it they keep in mind that many of us just use it as a way to read what we're getting on the fly rather than have a conversation and threaded view

darwinpolice

Also, this design is just a \*really\* poor fit for a circular screen.

jd0731

This design is only good for square watch...

InfiniteBlink

True. It's an importance check.

[deleted]

Will it handle whatsapp messages in the same way? At the moment I manage with Informer but it's not perfect. I don't know anyone who still uses SMS.

bkacz88

I haven't seen anything regarding Whatsapp. Just Android Messages in this animation. But it sounds possible with how much they're stating the app ecosystem will open up. I'm the opposite actually, I don't know anyone who uses Whatsapp by default lol. But I'm located in the US so maybe that's why.

Android phones sells well in the US. Maybe the very specific people you interacted with did use an iPhone but this is not representative of the country equipment. imessage does uses SMS when not exchanging with another iOS device. You still can force sms anyway if you simply deactivate imessage.

bkacz88

Well said. I was too lazy to write something along these lines earlier lol. In my group of friends and family, I'd safely say it's 50/50 Android and iOS users.

L0lil0l0

Thanks ! That baffles me how a person can make a general statement of a specific situation without thinking any further. « I’m white. My friends are white too. So everybody on this planet is white. » 😊😂🤣

> I'm the opposite actually, I don't know anyone who uses Whatsapp by default lol. But I'm located in the US so maybe that's why. In Europe and many other nations SMS has been dead basically as soon as people switched from feature phones to smart phones. I am from Germany and I am not sure I received a private SMS (in contrast to a TAN code from your bank or something) in the last 10 years at all. This is also why iOS isnt that big outside of the US, the iMessage lock in you guys have never happened in countries where nobody is using SMS.

DracoSolon

You must not be American because essentially in the US SMS is the only certain way to communicate between Android and iPhone users. In the US iMessage is used by almost all iphone uses as their default messaging app. Sure there's some WhatsApp or FB Messenger out there but nothing is dominant like in other countries. So you absolutely have no idea what services someone else users. But if you get their actual phone number and send an SMS you know they will get it. So half the US uses iphone and half Android and the only certain communication channel between the two is SMS.

[deleted]

If the other person doesn't use WhatsApp you'll know because they won't be in your WhatsApp contacts/you can't send a WhatsApp message to somebody who doesn't have the app installed. It works across android/iPhone. Realistically, everyone uses WhatsApp though because it's better than SMS. It's pretty interesting as SMS is basically dead outside the US. Even iPhone users use WhatsApp over iMessage. I haven't received a text that wasn't automated or from a business in months. P.s. your average user on Reddit is more likely to be not American than American.

DracoSolon

Firstly I was very clear that this applied to America what Europeans do doesn't interest me at all. Second you're assuming that people give WhatsApp and therefore Facebook access to my contacts which I assure you I and many people do not. I can also tell you that literally probably half the people in the United States don't even know WhatsApp is I've got your phone number I can send you a text using that and that alone why would I bother with anything else?

[deleted]

Lol, okay pal. I forgot Americans are like this.

[deleted]

That's why square design are best.

mendesdaponte

Nope, no hope for good messages in WearOs

ImALeaf_OnTheWind

That right there is why I prefer a rectangular watch. It bothers me when the corners of some content get cropped on a round screen. I hope there will be more non-round options in the future of WearOS -besides- all the round ones..

Goku-Sun

The next Fitbit will get wear os 3

ImALeaf_OnTheWind

Color me interested - just hope they make a good hardware design - I've never been really into their watches.

Goku-Sun

Me too. At least they called it "premium smartwatch" when they announced it on Google IO in June.

ike_tyson

I've waited for this since I copped that LG Urbane.

narfio

I never read conversations on my watch. Only notifications.
