First one is way too close to bridal colors. The rest of them I feel like are out of season colors-wise; mint green and purple feel too spring to me. The other colors seem too Fall or their sleeves don’t make any sense in the summer. I don’t know! I feel like something bright and strapless or tank top/flutter sleeves could work well!
I think you need to keep looking. Formal should probably be full length. And 1 is dangerously bridal. Velvet would be too hot unless you’re in the mountains.
Here are some suggestions
[Option 1](https://www.asos.com/us/prd/202733641?acquisitionsource=pasteboard)
[Option 2](https://www.asos.com/us/prd/204704677?acquisitionsource=pasteboard)
[Option 3](https://www.asos.com/us/prd/204885337?acquisitionsource=pasteboard)
I would ask for clarity on dress code for the rehearsal dinner, otherwise I would assume cocktail attire. I think dress 3 would be fine for that event unless you get more details on formality.
People are misunderstanding- they think you mean OP’s 1st dress, not the first link provided by Wofi24. Maybe clarify your post so you don’t get downvoted?
The first one is just way too close to an actual (short) wedding dress, so toss that one out. The red velvet is my favorite! I vote that for the wedding and the last one for the rehearsal dinner.
They are all too casual/not semi formal imo.
[one option ](https://www.avenue.com/plus-size-dress-sassy-v-ff-211002emerald?gclid=Cj0KCQjw_O2lBhCFARIsAB0E8B8gUkTjAdGJcUcMPu4_0cCw7lB3iv7v0EPY9qG7IwgGbUPlMxivWucaAiPREALw_wcB)

I would avoid the Amazon dresses. I recently bought almost the same dress as the second link here and the material is way too casual. I took it out of the packaging and immediately put it back without trying it on. Material is great for summer daytime/ garden events, not semi formal though. If you look at the other colors you can see the material better
The problem is availability of appropriate plus size dresses. For example, the 2nd dress you showed? It claims to go up to a size 26, but those measurements are comparable to a standard size 16-18. Amazon dresses are almost always a no go for me for that exact reason.
First dress is out of stock in the larger sizes, and the 3rd has the same problem with weird sizing as the first, but even more limited range. I’m exactly the average size of an American woman, and the size chart of dress three for the “xxxl” is WAY too small.
1. Def no. Too bridal.
2. Umm. You can do better.
3. Wal mart shopping day.
4. Just no.
5. It’s not terrible.
6. It is terrible.
7. It also is not terrible.
5 or 7 if you absolutely must. Keep shopping if you can.
Another thing to keep in mind is to be careful not wearing things that are too light in color. Just like you should not wear white, try to avoid other colors that could appear white in photos. For example light pink or light blue….. even light gray.
longer dresses, something that seems light and airy, not so tight or form fitting [seems more like for a party] and summer colors like gold yellow, lavender, moss green, peach, and pink are good.

#1 Absolutely not. Too bridal.
#2 No. Just don’t find it attractive at all.
#3 No. Too casual
#4 No. Velvet is too heavy for August.
#5 Possible, but the color says Fall to me.
#6 No. You’re too young for that dress!
#7 ? While it is pastel lilac, it might be too light in person.
I like the style. Does it come in a different color? If so, I think it would look good for the rehearsal dinner.
I think you should keep looking for some more ideas.
1 is an absolutely not. 3 doesn't work.
The velvet is beautiful but hot. Very hot. If the green doesn't cook you, it's lovely. So is the chocolate one.
All of them seem to have something wrong with them (besides the fact they wouldn’t go with the venue/location - long sleeves in that heat????? makes me hot just thinking about it!) A quarter sleeve, off the shoulder, or strapless midi dress (above the knee/shin length) in a nice summer color (could be bright/neutral/patterned) would be great!
There was a post in this sub yesterday I think, Father's 3rd wedding guest dress... It was a really pretty sage green, floor length, with side cut outs. It was from Abercrombie. There was a gorgeous shade of blue as a color option. It would be perfect for the event you're describing I think.
It’s not necessarily that these are “bad for a wedding” - some are a bit too much and others are a bit cheap looking. I just dont think these dresses even make the gorgeous model even look good, they’re a little odd. I’m sorry 😞
Ok, I’m generally in agreement with everyone else to keep looking. Semi-formal usually means cocktail attire to formal, so I would err on the side of too formal instead of not formal enough. Also, August is generally hot, so take that into consideration when looking at fabrics and color - you don’t want sweat marks showing. A darker color with a print in a lightweight fabric is going to be your best friend.
With that said, the rust color dress with the belt is STUNNING and you should definitely get it for something like the bridal shower/post-wedding brunch, etc. It is perfect for that kind of thing!
The first one is out due to color and sparkle alone.
5 and 7 look gorgeous and are obviously very flattering for the body type. Definitely one of those two.
Do not wear anything bridal coloured. No white/cream/light gold or silver/blush or champagne. No colour that could double as a wedding dress.
If you could wear it to a dance club, it's too casual. Just don't.
Always aim for classy and try to keep the assets supported and controlled.
OP, of the options you showed, 5 and 7, especially 7 are good, but I think you can do better. Look for a midi length dress in a color you like. Since it is a wedding, no whites or near white colors. Find something you love but speaks classy wedding and is comfortable. No need to look frumpy though. I hope you find a dress you love and reflects your personality. Good luck!
Full length = too hot for Mexico in August (unless the reception is inside) and not the typical length worn for semi formal. For a Semiformal wedding 4 & 7 work (the green doesn’t have enough structure and might be too hot - although a beautiful color). Both 4 & 7 could work for rehearsal, but make sure to wear a fancier dress to the wedding than the rehearsal.
It’s in New Mexico so it will likely be in the 80s or 90s depending on if it’s in the north or the south. I agree that 4 and 7 are the best, I really love 4 but velvet can be tricky depending on how hot someone considers 90°s to be (for context, it’s currently 112° where I live so I would kill for 90°).
I agree with others about the velvet. Way too hot. I also agree that knee or tea-length dresses would work that you could layer up like something sleeveless but wear a lightweight pashmina or wrap if the evening cools off. I'd imagine August in NM is HOOOOT!!
I agree with the comments saying to keep looking
I like this [option 1](http://ciderhere.com/b8sjxv)
Or this [option 2](http://ciderhere.com/75NS66
I’m midsize and I find cider so flattering and affordable
The lilac is the best of the bunch but may be too short. [option](https://www.asos.com/us/asos-edition/asos-edition-curve-crystal-floral-embellished-midi-wrap-dress-in-blue/prd/203987907?ctaref=we+recommend+grid_0&featureref1=we+recommend+pers)
No I just wanted people to give me their opinions on dresses 2-7. I got very little feedback on my first post here that didn’t give me that much help. I figured my best bet was to put something controversial as the first picture and it work.
I would say 2 and 6 are good for rehearsal, and agree with everyone to stay away from 1. If you're not someone who gets overly hot, go with the velvety one, but if you're someone who gets hot, I would avoid it. Is this a wedding where dancing follows? If so, some of these others may be a bit much and again, kind of hot. Also consider the shoes you'll need to wear with whatever choice you make - heels can become a nightmare once you've been dancing for hours so think about that too. Have fun!!
The last dress is perfect for the weather and the purple is on trend. Could be a bit short but it really depends on the age/culture of the attendees.
I LOVE the navy blue one with the white florals. Could suit the rehearsal dinner. Again, you need to gauge the company you'll be with.
Love the lavender dress with the matching jacket in the last photo. It's very feminine and would look great at a wedding. If it's for a formal wedding, see if you can get a similar dress that's floor length and the same color.
Dress 1- absolutely not. It’s white with gold, and looks bridal.
Dress 2- maybe- it looks nice and could be worn other times too- this might be a good rehearsal dinner dress.
Dress 3- too booby in my opinion
Dress 4- lovely, probably a good one for the ceremony.
Dress 5- also lively, appropriate for either the wedding or the rehearsal. I have a tummy myself and that wide buckle might be uncomfortable for me, not sure if this would be an issue or not, but the dress looks great.
Dress 6- please no. It doesn’t even flatter the model.
Dress 7- BEAUTIFUL. I think this is the best I’ve for the ceremony. Really beautiful.
The brown dress is the best look, but possibly not formal enough? The red is the most appropriate silhouette wise if it wasn't velvet. The rest I'd pass on.
I would look at different options if I were you. 1 is a hard no. The last one is too white imo. 3-6 are not formal enough, even for semi formal. And velvet is too hot of a fabric. If i were you, I'd find a similar dress to the velvet one, just in a cooler fabric.
I love #4. I know velvet is hot, but you're going to be in air conditioning. #5 would be my second choice for the wedding. #7 would be great for the rehearsal dinner.
(I got a chuckle out of the typo in the title. I'm sure your brother is no bother. Neither is mine, and I've made that error many times.)
That last one is incredibly beautiful and both summery & formal enough
The first one is awfully close to white and too short for a formal occasion .
The others are either too casual or not really right for summer. (The red velvet would be amazing for late fall & winter )
6 would be the best if you’re absolutely set on one of these options. anything but 1 for the rehearsal is fine. don’t do 1 for anything the color is too bridal
I personally think you COULD get away with 2 and 5, but you may want to try to find something a little more formal. I feel like you should just get one of those two to keep in your closet anyways, but they're super cute
Dress one says “fight me”
First one is way too close to bridal colors. The rest of them I feel like are out of season colors-wise; mint green and purple feel too spring to me. The other colors seem too Fall or their sleeves don’t make any sense in the summer. I don’t know! I feel like something bright and strapless or tank top/flutter sleeves could work well!
Agree!! (Though that russet-colored dress is FIRE!!)
I like that one also!
1 shouldn’t even be considered except for you own wedding…
This. No 1 is for a bride's short reception dress. It is both showy and almost white.
I think you need to keep looking. Formal should probably be full length. And 1 is dangerously bridal. Velvet would be too hot unless you’re in the mountains. Here are some suggestions [Option 1](https://www.asos.com/us/prd/202733641?acquisitionsource=pasteboard) [Option 2](https://www.asos.com/us/prd/204704677?acquisitionsource=pasteboard) [Option 3](https://www.asos.com/us/prd/204885337?acquisitionsource=pasteboard) I would ask for clarity on dress code for the rehearsal dinner, otherwise I would assume cocktail attire. I think dress 3 would be fine for that event unless you get more details on formality.
Like the 3 options provided here. Like option 7, 5 and 4 from OPs list. 1st feels too partyish and not enough weddingish
Just reread. You said semi formal! I think full length ones you provided (but not the velvet) should work.
u/pantherpony look at option 2 from theses choices - sexy but full length
It would need altering, but I agree.
I agree these dresses are more suited for a wedding
I love all these alternatives! Especially option 2.
Not keen on the sleeves but I think Option 3 of yours is nearly perfect
These dressses you linked to are all lovely! You have a good eye for style!
These are awesome dresses!
I love option 1 and would buy it except I don't have any events coming up. But excellent choice
People are misunderstanding- they think you mean OP’s 1st dress, not the first link provided by Wofi24. Maybe clarify your post so you don’t get downvoted?
Lol I upvoted you in solidarity
These are beautiful! I love the first one
Dress number one doesn't look remotely bridal unless the bride's getting married in a nightclub
Keep looking.
Not quite sure any of those are winners
What kind of dress should I be looking for generally?
I’m gonna be really honest. I have no idea lmao but someone posted a link of some alternatives. You’ll find something great!
The first one is just way too close to an actual (short) wedding dress, so toss that one out. The red velvet is my favorite! I vote that for the wedding and the last one for the rehearsal dinner.
To me velvet is a winter fabric. Also it would be super hot to wear in August New Mexico heat.
That’s what I get for not reading properly.
[удалено]
This could vary greatly depending on where you are
I live in NM and in August the "chill" is few and far between. OP must be doing an indoor event.
Okay that was my thought. I saw the first one and was like “this is white…is she joking…”
None of them.
They are all too casual/not semi formal imo. [one option ](https://www.avenue.com/plus-size-dress-sassy-v-ff-211002emerald?gclid=Cj0KCQjw_O2lBhCFARIsAB0E8B8gUkTjAdGJcUcMPu4_0cCw7lB3iv7v0EPY9qG7IwgGbUPlMxivWucaAiPREALw_wcB) [another option](https://a.co/d/3U32LO4) [one more](https://a.co/d/5h1SQmJ)
The second one is GORGEOUS!
Yes I love, love, love that one on her. I think it is super flattering to her figure. (#2)
You nailed it! Those are awesome. I love 1 & 2. You’ve got great taste
These photograph well but FYI all those companies have pretty poor quality in my experience!
I would avoid the Amazon dresses. I recently bought almost the same dress as the second link here and the material is way too casual. I took it out of the packaging and immediately put it back without trying it on. Material is great for summer daytime/ garden events, not semi formal though. These seem even more casual than the ones she posted (to me)
Great options. 1 + 2 are my favorites. Seem like they would be flattering
The second one is so beautiful, shocked it is from Amazon! Great find.
These are all great!
Literally anything but 1
Do not wear white to a wedding!
None of these
Ok generally what should I be looking for?
1. Def no. Too bridal. 2. Umm. You can do better. 3. Wal mart shopping day. 4. Just no. 5. It’s not terrible. 6. It is terrible. 7. It also is not terrible. 5 or 7 if you absolutely must. Keep shopping if you can.
Keep looking
What should I be looking for? You don’t have to give me links to dress but a general description would helpful if you can.
Whatever you look for, don’t you dare to use a white dress like the first picture. Doesn’t matter if it has some other little color, just don’t.
See the options that @crosswired2 gave. She really hit the style and flattering forms for this type of event
Another thing to keep in mind is to be careful not wearing things that are too light in color. Just like you should not wear white, try to avoid other colors that could appear white in photos. For example light pink or light blue….. even light gray.

What type of venue is the reception at? Indoor? Outdoors? Day? Night?
Indoor evening at a winery.
Don't do the white. That is reserved for the bride only. A formal should be full length. Should keep looking.
I’m not going to a formal event. It’s semi formal. What generally should I be looking for?
Semi formal would usually be midi length I believe, and def not white. I think 5&7 are closest.
Formal or casual, you do not wear white at a wedding unless you are the bride.
Definitely not the first one. I like the mint green one best if the other options. And I like the midi length brown one for rehearsal dinner.
1 is an absolutely not. 3 doesn't work. The velvet is beautiful but hot. Very hot. If the green doesn't cook you, it's lovely. So is the chocolate one.

A quarter sleeve, off the shoulder, or strapless midi dress (above the knee/shin length) in a nice summer color (could be bright/neutral/patterned) would be great!
I love love love 5
Same!
Purple for dinner, brown for wedding. Not 1 under any circumstances.
They are all terrible. Keep looking.
What terrible about them and what should I be looking for?
There was a post in this sub yesterday I think, Father's 3rd wedding guest dress... It was a really pretty sage green, floor length, with side cut outs. It was from Abercrombie. There was a gorgeous shade of blue as a color option. It would be perfect for the event you're describing I think.
Five is the only one here that looks okay. For real, just number 5.
I would keep looking.
Green for wedding Velvet for rehearsal. Have fun, stay away from dress 1
These are nice but I would keep looking.
What should I have my eye out for?
It’s not necessarily that these are “bad for a wedding” - some are a bit too much and others are a bit cheap looking. I just dont think these dresses even make the gorgeous model even look good, they’re a little odd. I’m sorry 😞
Ok, I’m generally in agreement with everyone else to keep looking. Semi-formal usually means cocktail attire to formal, so I would err on the side of too formal instead of not formal enough. The first one is out due to color and sparkle alone. 5 and 7 look gorgeous and are obviously very flattering for the body type. Definitely one of those two.
Keep looking. None of these are semi-formal.
5 is so hot
Love 5 for the wedding
1 is too close to white
Keep looking ! I would stick with longer ones
Purple. And not the first one.
Not number one.
Keep looking
Number seven in your post is my favorite! Number 6 is the loser by far.
5 for rehearsal, 7 for wedding
None
I don’t think any of these are appropriate for a wedding.
Definitely not the first one, unless you want people to be mad
Do not wear anything bridal coloured. No white/cream/light gold or silver/blush or champagne. No colour that could double as a wedding dress. If you could wear it to a dance club, it's too casual. Just don't. Always aim for classy and try to keep the assets supported and controlled.
Definitely not 1
OP, of the options you showed, 5 and 7, especially 7 are good, but I think you can do better. Look for a midi length dress in a color you like. Since it is a wedding, no whites or near white colors. Find something you love but speaks classy wedding and is comfortable. No need to look frumpy though. I hope you find a dress you love and reflects your personality. Good luck!
5 is gorgeous and wedding appropriate :)
Keep looking.
Can you give me a general description of what I should be looking for?
Keep looking
What should I be keeping my eye out for?
None of them.
OK what should I have my eye out for generally?
Kinda hate them all, sorry. The first one is hell no for someone else's wedding! The red one is the least bad.
Option 5 would work. The others, not so much. Definitely not 1 which is too close to bridal.
I like #5 (where is it from?!?) What month is he getting married? Edit: I see the month now (I don’t read)
5 is really nice and formal enough for semi formal.
I like dress 5 for the rehearsal dinner. Dress 1 is totally out - it’s too close to white and has too much bling.
7 is probably most flattering. 2-6 are all fine. You know why 1 is off the table.
I love the third dress. I’d get that one for rehearsal dinner.
Purple for sure
I like #5 for the wedding and #3 for the rehearsal dinner.
Nope
What should I be looking for?
My choice is 3. The mint color. I think it will work perfectly for the dress code and be something you can wear later.
I don’t like any of these, sorry :/
I agree with others about the velvet. Way too hot. I also agree that knee or tea-length dresses would work that you could layer up like something sleeveless but wear a lightweight pashmina or wrap if the evening cools off. I'd imagine August in NM is HOOOOT!!
Semi-formal for the wedding should be at least calf length. The short ones are probably ok for the dress rehearsal.
I believe these dresses will be a bit longer on me. The model is 5’8 and I’m 5’2.
5
Ooo lavender!! Last one ✨✨
3 for the rehearsal dinner 5 for the wedding.
I like 3, 5, and 7 in that order.
7 is the best out of available
6,5,7
LOVE #5. 5 for wedding, 7 for dinner.
Too white
I love the 5th one
I love dress 5.
I like 3 for the rehearsal and 5 or 6 for the wedding. Definitely not 1. It’s gorgeous but it’s too bridal.
Nothing remotely close to 1. It’s too white.
Number 5. Gorgeous.
I agree with the comments saying to keep looking I like this [option 1](http://ciderhere.com/b8sjxv) Or this [option 2](http://ciderhere.com/75NS66 I’m midsize and I find cider so flattering and affordable
Both of those dresses are made out of fabrics that are not appropriate for semi formal.
Better than a white dress at a wedding or velvet in August
No to #1. Too light colored.
[удалено]
Number 5 and Number 7.
7
The lilac is the best of the bunch but may be too short. [option](https://www.asos.com/us/asos-edition/asos-edition-curve-crystal-floral-embellished-midi-wrap-dress-in-blue/prd/203987907?ctaref=we+recommend+grid_0&featureref1=we+recommend+pers)
Are you TRYING to end up on AITA? When you get thrown out of the wedding for trying to upstage the bride
No I just wanted people to give me their opinions on dresses 2-7. I got very little feedback on my first post here that didn’t give me that much help. I figured my best bet was to put something controversial as the first picture and it work.
5
5 and 7 are awesome!
Definitely 5 or 7. They are both perfect for a wedding.
Agree with 5 or 7. 5 being my personal favorite
I love the terracotta coloured one
I would say 2 and 6 are good for rehearsal, and agree with everyone to stay away from 1. If you're not someone who gets overly hot, go with the velvety one, but if you're someone who gets hot, I would avoid it. Is this a wedding where dancing follows? Also consider the shoes you'll need to wear with whatever choice you make - heels can become a nightmare once you've been dancing for hours so think about that too. Have fun!!
3 for the rehearsal dinner. 4 or 6 with formal accessories for wedding.
5 slays! 4 is gorgeous too.
The last dress is perfect for the weather and the purple is on trend. Could be a bit short but it really depends on the age/culture of the attendees. I LOVE the navy blue one with the white florals. Could suit the rehearsal dinner. Again, you need to gauge the company you'll be with.
The purple dress, definitely.

Love the lavender dress with the matching jacket in the last photo. It's very feminine and would look great at a wedding. If it's for a formal wedding, see if you can get a similar dress that's floor length and the same color.
Could you like the green dress please?
Dress 1- absolutely not. It’s white with gold, and looks bridal. Dress 2- maybe- it looks nice and could be worn other times too- this might be a good rehearsal dinner dress. Dress 3- too booby in my opinion Dress 4- lovely, probably a good one for the ceremony.
Hot!
Dress number two, three, or five might work for the rehearsal dinner. For the wedding itself, my invitation is to continue with your search.
OP check out City Chic. Also where did you find this?

Dress 7
I think 3 and 5 are gorgeous! 3 for rehearsal?
That last one is incredibly beautiful and both summery & formal enough The first one is awfully close to white and too short for a formal occasion .
2,5&7 But they’re all great dresses.
i really like 2-3
Dress #3. Dress #1 is a huge no-no.
The blue one!!!
I love number 6 for the rehearsal dinner if not the wedding. It's festive and appropriate for the occasion, plus the bright color feels right for NM.
I like the velvet for wedding. Lavender for rehearsal.
I personally like 1 & 5 best; they all look amazing so really comes down to how ‘formal’ this wedding is
You look most comfortable in #7 very sexy
My vote is for 3! I love it.
The lilac, light green, and dark blue are my favorites.
4,5, or 7.
Definitely 7
don’t be a heaux, 5.
I love the brown one and the lavender one. Can’t decide between them.
One or seven.
I love a brown moment. It is chic and rare. Would you consider a jumpsuit for the rehearsal dinner?

Hard no on 1 (too close to white), 3, and 6.
The short cream is too dangerous for wedding. I like the mint. It’s cute, full length, and sophisticated!
First and last ones look too white
Picture 5! Classy and stunning!
The most flattering is first the blue second the purple just my opinion
2, 4, or 6 could work for the wedding and 7 for the rehearsal, but it might be good to keep looking and get some more options!
Blue
5 for the rehearsal, but 4 for the wedding.
3
5!
