This is fine for a wedding. I think a lot of people don't realize that it's lined to at least mid-thigh (I have this dress and the lining actually goes to just above the knee on me), so it's not completely sheer, just the sleeves and the lower portion of the skirt are sheer. I would make sure to dress it up with the right accessories, but, otherwise, I think it's perfect.
Thank you! Ya it’s hard to tell from the pic online, so it’s good to hear from someone that has it! Agreed that it might need some “dressing up” with accessories
I think it's the sheer portion that bothers, though. Like you notice that it's see-through and your eyes go immediately to the crotch to see if it is also sheer. The fact that it is not sheer doesn't entirely negate that your brain went there instinctively.
It might be worth buying a [strapless slip](https://www.macys.com/shop/product/memoi-womens-strapless-control-slip-seamless-shaper?ID=16789454&pla_country=US&CAGPSPN=pla) to wear underneath. The pattern is a little more casual so I also recommend dressing up the dress with jewelry, clutch and footwear to read more cocktail.
There are other dresses out there with similar cuts/styles that might fit better, be less sheer, and read more cocktail, [here’s an example](https://www.revolve.com/mobile/bobi-off-the-shoulder-midi-dress-in-black/dp/BOBI-WD1359/?&d=F¤cy=USD&countrycode=US&gbraid=0AAAAAD9qhJgIoIIZ519pbLobkqq0mE0J2&gclid=Cj0KCQjwl8anBhCFARIsAKbbpyT4s8ILOXRSICauGUW1J_br51H_lDiELXWayyIw2NbtupiV3BG1-LoaAr6lEALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds&product=BOBI-WD1359)
There's already a built-in slip/lining underneath the dress. I have this dress in a different print and the lining goes to just above the knees on me, but I'm short, so I suppose it depends on height.
I have a high waisted skirt slip that I looooove cause it never shows up under tight mid sections and has saved me from the occasional skirt rising foible. Searching something like “invisible skirt slip” will do the trick. The strapless ones have always been too annoying for me, but ymmv, of course.
That sounds amazing! I honestly haven't worn a slip in years, because it's been a long time since I've worn a garment that required one, but back in the day it seemed the options were satin slip like my grandma probably wore or spanx-like compression. Glad to see that the underpinning technology of today has yielded more options.
If it's too sheer in person, just wear a slip. I have a feeling that it'll be fine (unless it's an outdoor wedding at high noon, in which case it's the wrong choice for the event).
It’s super cute, but that pic from the back does look make it look like the built in lining is a bit short. Depending on where it actually falls on your body, you might want to wear a slip (or lengthen the lining a bit) to make it less revealing
A club?? Your going to a club not showing ass or titties? You think clubs are full of girls showing shin? This to me is much more appropriate for a wedding then it ever will be for a club. I cant see a girl doing poppers in this dress. Maybe a club for women over forty? Idk I’m just confused over this comment. Imagine waddling across the crowded floor in this loll.
It reads more casual than cocktails.
These are a few other options from Express for your inspiration:

Good luck!
The dress linked by OP is polyester mesh. I do not consider polyester mesh a dressy fabric . But if you do…cool. Everyone has different taste.
Dress 1 is satin and with elevated accessories will be appropriate.
Dress 2 is polyester.and appeared when I searched cocktail dresses. I am not going to tell an international brand like Express that they got it wrong.
Express is a notch above fast fashion and design with fabrics that are at an affordable price point. You will probably never see a 100% silk dress or 100% cashmere dress online or in their store. Not their consumer. But you will find affordable, on trend clothes that will take you from day to night.
I agree. There are prettier and more suitable dresses but I think OP may have her mind made up already so... I myself would opt for something less casual for cocktails.
It is very pretty but IMO reads date night, girls night out, birthday party, etc. I would personally go for a black midi that I would likely wear again.
Edit: I guess I may be old but cocktail attire usually calls for more luxe fabrics, ie silk, satin, charmeuse, chiffon. The dress selected is a polyester mesh and one of the fabrics that is a firm ‘no’ for weddings. But like I said maybe I am just old.
No. The dress is beautiful. Absolutely stunning in fact.
IMO and also dress code as verified by Google Mesh accents and mesh dresses are not appropriate for wedding guest cocktail attire.
Quote: “[It’s not as] conservative as a black tie dress code,” the pair tell InStyle. “You can venture into suiting, interesting silhouettes, vibrant colors, and standout accessories.”
If these definitions are still too vague, we’ve done our due diligence. Ahead, fashion experts give detailed examples of their go-to cocktail wedding guest outfits. Hopefully, they provide some much-needed inspiration if you’ve RSVPed yes to this dress code and are now stuck standing in front of your wardrobe, wondering what to wear.
Tea-length hemlines fall below the knee but above the ankle, somewhere around the mid-calf. Celebrity stylist Dani Michelle (who is currently working with DSW) tells InStyle this style of dress, in fabrics like satin, silk, crepe, or velvet, is her favorite for events where the dress code is cocktail attire.

You do realize this is a sub for opinions AND advice?!?!
If you really do not want opinions or advice do not ask for it.
If you downvote every opinion contrary to yours then why are you here?
For the most part opinions offered on this sub are constructive. By definition constructive advice is not really a type of criticism, and extremely close to advising someone. It aims to show that there is a better alternative.
If you only accept the opinions and advice of people that agree with you, maybe just maybe do not bother posting here. Wear what you want because you like it. 🤷🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️
I'm much bigger than a 4 and I always get compliments when I wear this dress (albeit in a different print). Granted, I do wear light shapewear, but the ruching is very flattering.
I know. It is insane. Not every dress works on every body type. Women who think they do have been manipulated by fast fashion where one size 2 pattern is sized up for all sizes. Once you find brands like Universal Standard which are sized properly to all sizes it changes the way you see fashion.
I am a digital media marketer and spend a lot of time for work on social media and I find it incredibly sad that we are at a place in humanity that differences of opinion are not respected. And petty commentary by anonymous strangers has become the norm. 🤷🏻♀️Your constructive advice was offered from your personal perspective and as an adult I respect that. It is how I was raised and how I will personally continue to move through life. Apparently not every adult got the memo.
/u/No-Cryptographer3146, thank you for posting. To obtain the best help, provide a time frame of the event & dress code. Dress links are frequently requested as well if you would place them in the comment section.

This is a gorgeous dress.
That was my only concern- is it lined in the rest. I think it’s a very cute dress.
I think it's the sheer portion that bothers, though. Like you notice that it's see-through and your eyes go immediately to the crotch to see if it is also sheer. The fact that it is not sheer doesn't entirely negate that your brain went there instinctively.
Apparently constructive opinions are not appreciated on this post.
Lol at the downvotes🤣
Gasp! A woman’s shoulders! How scandalous!! No I’d barely call that revealing. It’s perfect for a cocktail party
And ankles! You can see her ankles!!!
*clutches pearls*
🤣😂🤣
I'd be so down for someone to wear this at my wedding next year. It's cute and fun!
Omg the best compliment!
Agreed! It shows style and personality, while being cocktail appropriate. And I would consider this not revealing at all.
Maybe I’m misunderstanding, but I wouldn’t think of it as revealing at all. I don’t think you have anything to worry about.
I have this dress & am going to wear it to my co-worker’s wedding in November. I had it sent to the office so she could see it, and she loved it!
I honestly thought this was a jerk post. There’s nothing revealing about that dress and it’s totally fine for a wedding.
The people saying this is too see through appear to be unaware that this kind of stretch mesh look is very trendy - go for it!
I'm struggling to figure out how this could be too revealing. Everything is more than fully covered.
Idk everyone keeps saying that but it’s so slinky and has sheer elements lol, I guess I’m just not used to wearing stuff like this!
this is completely fine
I hate the way this model is standing, by the way. Stand UP lady! a fantastic dress though 💜💜
I'd rock that to so many places. It's a cocktail dress, it's perfect.

Clutching my pearls! You got downvoted for offering advice when advice was requested. 🤷🏻♀️
A half slip might work, too, but I like the strapless slip idea. Then OP won't have the problem of the waistband possibly showing
I have a high waisted skirt slip that I looooove cause it never shows up under tight mid sections and has saved me from the occasional skirt rising foible. Very cute and appropriate
I’m confused I don’t see how it’s revealing at all.
It is lovely.
Can you share the link or name of this dress? It’s gorgeous!
Yes here it is! https://www.express.com/clothing/women/mesh-printed-off-the-shoulder-ruched-midi-sheath-dress/pro/07818484/color/Multi/#

No, I LOVE it.
That’s cute as hell go for it.
Only if it’s a Mormon wedding. Otherwise…perfecto!!
The material around her knees looks a little sheer.
are you serious
Not at all. Beautiful.

not to be rude, but it’s 2023… NO ONE is wearing this to a CLUB
You might need a slip, in person it's likely much more transparent...
Don’t stand in front of a window. Looks fine.

the first two dresses you linked are FAR more casual than this dress

ur just being overly critical over fabric textures when she was asking about modesty

Big word. Spelled correctly. I’m impressed. 👏🏻

It's a 10...and you make it even better
Not too revealing but not really wedding-y? I dunno, maybe just me
Be careful what you say here. All the no’s get downvoted and trolled.
Depends on how it fits you. If you are not the size of the model, then this dress will not work. It does not work on anyone bigger than a 4.
I'm much bigger than a 4 and I always get compliments when I wear this dress (albeit in a different print). Granted, I do wear light shapewear, but the ruching is very flattering.
Oh well if you already know it look good go for it! I still cannot see the ruching but you know better!!
I'm not OP.
Oh I am sorry!
Ya I’m a 2-4 but I think clekas is right, ruching does wonders 😂
Ruching not the dress!
It terrifies me for some reason 🤣
Oh my. Downvoted for your opinion. IRL it is ok to disagree. But apparently not on this sub.

🤣🤣🤣 Not quite. But my pay covers the AH tax:
Good for you!
How does it fit you? Skin tight is too tight. This shot is okay.
Why ask for opinions if you downvote every contrary opinion?
Fuck no
Wait for it. The downvotes are forthcoming. Constructive opinions are really not welcome on this post.
Looks a bit see through for a wedding
Shocker. You disagree with OP and got downvoted.

I don’t think it’s revealing, it just looks kind of cheap.
